Nokia 8800 - Complete Newby Needs Help !!

Hi All
Im a complete newby to this tech lark so could do with some help!
Basically ive just got a nokia 8800 phone & its got nothing on it so I want to transfer some tunes, vids etc onto it.
Firstly ive installed the nokia pc suite & updated it on my pc but then relaised that the phone doesnt have a cable dock to connect to the pc !

Do i need to install the software that come with the dongle? i.e. drivers & blue soleil?
When ive got passed this bit i assume pc suite will see the phone then?

Bluetooth and Windows is a bít tricky combination, because Windows XP (which I assume you have) has an inuildt Bluetooth driver software that works with many Bluetooth USB tcks tc. but not all.
YOu might have a Bluetooth that requires the Bluesoleil and the bluetooth conflicts in PC have been well documented in this board and everywhere else.
But you should try:
Install the CD first (if you have already put the bluetooth dongle to your PC without intalling the cd first you maybe in trouble already and it is a bit too lenghtly to hrlp, but google for xp bluetooth bluesoleil problem and oyu will find help.
However, if you have not yet put the bluetooth stick to you pc, put it there after you have installed the cd.
Then open PC suite and get connected and activate both phone bluetooth and pc and follow get connected wizard instructions

If you were using Apple's BootCamp and received this message, quit it and open Disk Uility in your Applicaitons/Utilities folder.

To fix this

Complete novice needs help

Hi folks
I hope you can indulge me. I am a mature student studying with the Open University in the UK. In order to complete my degree I have to produce a (small) project (doesn't have to have full functionality) based on a Network application. I am limited to using Java and to some extent the software provided for me, which in this case is JBuilder3.5 (yes I know it's old!). I can, within reason download further software providing my tutor is ok with it but here's the rub I have no idea what I actually need. There is so much to read through and I am feeling a bit thick because I cannot pin anything down.
This is where I would appreciate any help from you experts. My project subject is a browser which can interpret web pages and then configure them to be displayed in a fromat that is prefered by the user not the author. I can build the GUI but I am stuck when it comes to building the functionality behind it. ie what packages do I need to download that can recognise XML/HTML tags in order to rearrange the display? Am I even on the right track? Is it actaully possible?
Because the project is only worked over a small period I don't need full functionality but have elected to deal with input/output fields, text placemnt/display/font (infromationl), graphic placement/deletion. I may also be alowed to update my version of Jbuilder.
I would be so grateful if somebody could at least point me in the right direction. I need to add here that I feel so stupid that I need replies in very plain english :o)

Saw your note about using a proper IDE unfortunately I am obliged to use the one provided by my UNI. Reason being the markers of my project may not be up to date with other IDE's. Though I may be allowed to use a newer version of JBuilder. I am waiting to hear if I have permission to do so.
Here's another thick question. from what I remember, when studying Java last year, it has a number of libraries that can be imported to a project. When I download the HTML and XML stuff are they just added to the libraries already in place and if so how is it done.
ps hope they also have tutorials with them for the coding :o(
One last question; am I in the right forum for this sort of query or is there a novice one for thicko's like me? :o)

Complete novice needs help getting SQL Query into Crystal Reports XI

So I was given an intro level web course and a monster reference guide in prep to format a report. One of our developers wrote me everything I need for the report into a SQL Query and now I'm supposed to format it in CR XII literally do not know what to do from here. I'm able to set up the correct server as a datasource, if that's useful, but I don't know how to make the querey into a bunch of formattable fields in CR. If anyone can walk me through this, I'd be so grateful. I've attempted to look up SQL query in both the help and the book but I keep hitting a wall. The help dialog says things like "press this button" with no reference to what "this button" is. I'm sure it's obvious to the knowledgeable but I'm in a complete fog. Thanks in advance

IF you're trying to get assistance with setting up a query as the source for a report, try posting your Crystal version and the database type.
Different software works differently.
In CR 9 and above, under the connection to the database you'll see Add Command. Select that and you can paste the query in.
As for not knowing how to generate a report, that requires experience, there's no generic solution of course..

Complete beginnner needs help...

As a complete Flash beginner, I have a project I am trying to
make but I am unsure how to acheive it...
I want to to have 3 x 3 Frame Keyframe animations (very
simple) with a title keyframe in between each one. What I am
struggling with is that instead of repeating the keyframes lots of
times and having a huge project I want to repeat each 2 Keyframe
animation 30 times (making it a minute long) before moving onto the
text keyframe and then the next 2 keyframe animation to loop 30
times before moving on... I then want the whole thing to loop.
What code do you use in Flash CS3 (ActionScrpit 3.0) to
acheive this for each set of keyframes? To keep it simple they are
all one one layer. Any help would be gratefully recieved- thinking
this was a simple question I have been searching on here for ages
and cannot find anything that works... but I think its more do with
my lack of knowledge rather than lack of information...

I think I may have made my previous post more convoluted than
it needed to be :)
I just want to know what code to use to make a group of
keyframes repeat a certain number of times then carry on with the
rest of the movie..
Any tips in Actionscript 3 (or 2!) would be gratefully

Nokia 6230 owners i need help

i have a nokia 6230, i cracked the screen and now it only lights up. i can take pictures and record video and i would like to attach it to my remote control car and record video but the video is in a low setting and it would be a great help if someone could tell me what keys to press to put the video record in the highest setting and the longest record time. many thanks.

Most probably it seems a hardware problem, for which you have to take it to Nokia Care..
Just try a 'Factory reset' before that..

From my little knwledge, it is not possible to insert FLV
file in the HTML page directly.For this you have to made a player
with flash which plays the FLV.And this swf can emdded in the HTML
page.
You can also download free flash videoplayers like JW Player.

Newby needs help please

Have just got my Blackberry 8900 yesterday, can text and call people but am having a few problems elswhere.
I have connected the 8900 to the Desktop Manager and updated. I have no maps, how can I get them.
Also I have outlook 2003 on my home laptop, I want to be able to recieve these emails to my 8900 and also other email address, I guess maybe Hotmail etc. Can I have all these to my 8900?

To download Maps you can go to www.blackberry.com/maps , but you need the Blackberry Data Plan ( i wrote this for you in your other thread)
And after you can setup the mails on the device, but the mails are not synched with Desktop Manager, you have the setup in outlook and in the Blackberry Device.
To sync mails, you need any exchange server.

I'm very very new to java. I'm trying to write a program to connect to and read some fields in an oracle table. I'm having problems and am not sure how to correct it. I downloaded and installed the oracle thin driver. I'm using Eclipse 3.3 and JRE 1.6. This is my code:

So, it looks like it may be connecting, at least it runs the line that establishes the connection then the next line which prints a comment. However, it seems to fail at some point thereafter. I've tried debugging it and as far as I can tell, it's erroring out on thie line:

Completely blocked, need help

hi,
have a serious problem: it happens that when i want to open a session
following error message appears: "Audition has encountered an error :[\Monk\main\common\PremiereShell\Src\PlayerFactory.cpp-379]". My two recent sessions i cannot get back anymore. Older sessions work fine. Restarting the computer does not help.
Is there an expert who could help me. It makes me sad........

Newby Needs help with mapping an illusion

Attached is a picture of an illusion that I would like to be able to reproduce with different shapes. I have tried using several different programs including Photo shop and some cad programs. The problem is when I create the illusion the lines around the edge do not stay aligned with the illusion (see illusion 2 as how they should be).
Any help would be most appreciated.

I am new to Java and I am trying to write a basic application for a class but I can't get it to work. The application is a payroll program that includes the employee name, hourly wage, hours worked, and lastly net pay. I can't get the code to compile wihtout kicking back errors. Someone please help!

wihtout kicking back errors. That's normal. It's a rare thing when a program is written without any syntax errors on the first try. Don't let it discourage you. Just fix the errors that the compiler tells you about. If you don't understand an error or don't know how to fix it, you can post here, but when you do so be sure to quote the full error message and the code that it refers to.

Newby need help with pop up banner

I'm a young designer at a company. I havn't used java at all but i was assigned to make a moving banner. It has to move side by side horizontally and the other problem i'm facing is that the background has to be transparent.
I have googled for two days now and have made a very basic website (four pages), could someone please walk me trough the process. I have found a lot of code have found a lot of tutorials but can't figure out where to paste the code. I have made a website to a free isp to test my new knowledge.
-i have to make a window.open method
-make the background transparent (is this process easier in flash) ?
-make it move side-to-side
I could help out with some disaign (wallpapers, banners, logos) i'm not skilled with code soo it takes my a while to understand.
I'm ready to learn java but now i havn't got much time.
I'm learning the basics right now but my assigment is much more difficult.

It sounds like you're working with Javascript, and not Java.
Also, are you trying to make a webpage with a transparent background?
One last thing, this works pretty well for "moving banners".

JAVA newby needs help - second try

Sorry I goofed up the first post!!
I am trying to learn JAVA on my own and am stuck on using random numbers. My grandson is having problems in math (he is 7) and I want to create a math quiz that will generate two numbers between 0 and 10 and ask him for the correct answer. I understand the JOptionPane and how to display what I wan it to say (easy) but I do not know how to make the result of the sum of the two randoms be the required user (my grandson) input.

The JOptionPane returns user input as a String. Use Integer.parseInt() to parse the string answer to an int value, which you can then compare as needed.

Nokia n96 video problems.Need help please

how do i go about putting videos on through pc suite but everytime i try, it starts converting and stops quatre way there.
i tryed using another media converter all together now don't know what format or resolution the videos have to be converted to in order to work on my phone. the videos i have been trying to convert are .avi format.
does anyone have any advice that can help me?

PC suite is the wrong tool for this job as it's not very good at handling large files.
A great source of information on how to make videos compatible with the N96 is available on this blog:

Look through the archives on there and you will find a very good guide on what programs to use and the required settings.
If your avi files are divx or xvid you may want to install the programs below to see if you can play them without conversion. The program on the first link is free, the second is not but a demo may be available.
