Nokia 920 touchscreen issue

Hi,
My 920s screen appears to break in 2 when being dragged, it looks a bit like a ripple, one side is slightly behind the other. It also happens when video is playing so its not part of the touch system. If it was my desktop I would reinstall the video card or roll back to a stable driver version. Has anybody else seen this. If it is a hardware issue I can send it back (still in warranty), but that means losing the phone and postage costs and bother.
Any help is good guys
Thanks

Hello. Nice to see you posting on our community forum. Did something happen prior to the issue? Have you tried resetting your phone by tapping Settings>about>reset your phone? Back up your files to avoid data loss.

    hello all,
MY 6708 touchscreen has stopped working, some lady sat on it for hours.
    any solutions?

If someone sat on it then it's most likely broken. Take it to a nokia care point for help.

  • Nokia 920 Bluetooth and SMS Speech

I have a Nokia 920 and I recently changed from a Toyota RAV4 to a VW Golf 2013 MK7 TSI 90 Comfortline in Australia on Telstra.
Previously, when paired with my RAV4 whenever I got incoming SMS text it would announce text from the phone contact and offer the option to 'Read it', 'Reply' using voice commands.
I've paired it to my VW Golf but it no longer announces SMS text or give me voice command options.  Is this a bluetooth compatibility issue; is there any option to upgrade or modify settings to enable this feature?
    Richard

Hi, when i refer to voice commands I was specifically referring to scenario:
    1. SMS text arrives
    2. Announcement is made of new text - with option to 'Read it', 'Reply', 'Send'
-- I was referring to the above options as it relates to voice commands back.
    3. Voice commands via holding the Windows Logo on phone - this works fine.

  • Taken Aback- touchscreen issue

I have enjoyed and supported this company's products and services for some time. So, today when I inquired with tech support about my touchscreen issue (non working band of the screen ..the 456 area on the dialpad)...I was taken aback at the very least that I should send my phone in for repair and then PAY for a loaner. hmmm..I just paid 700 for a phone that is now handicapped two months later by what seems to be a common issue, accourding to the forums, and I should fork over some more $$$? Principle alone may make me dust off my Blackberry.

these kind of comments are just besides the point. there is a degree of company loyalty that is ok, but this is a clear shortcoming of Apple's understanding of the mobile market. I am a huge Apple fan (have had Macs for more than 20 years, I had a Newton, and now the iPhone), but I have also had about 30 mobile phones over the last 15 or so years. And I have to say that I have never had a phone before that broke, that needed repair. Or that broke just by falling down (that is what happened to my iphone, one fall out of 1.5 feet and the screen is cracked). What Apple has to understand is that the mobile phone market is not the computer market. Phones have to work and have to survive some everyday punishments, otherwise they are just nice looking but otherwise useless devices. Just take a look at Palms and Blackberrys, the thing about them is that they work, just like Nokias and in the past Ericsson's.

  • No whatsapp in app store? (Nokia 920, UAE)

Just bought Nokia 920, in Dubai and noticed no whatsapp in App Store. Went to Whatsapp's site and clicked on DOWNLOAD. It took me to the App Store with whatsapp but it says no download available
    What's the issue here?

Lately it seems that WhatsApp is having a succession of updates and fixes making its availability unreliable at best.
As the Microsoft Store is not under the control of Nokia and WhatsApp is not a Nokia Development I'd suggest you contact either the Store or WhatsApp support.

  • Windows 7 and Nokia 920

I have had my Nokia 920 since November and am generally very happy with the phone, except for one small detail.  I can only access the files on the phone if the battery is at 100%.  If the battery needs any charging when I plug the phone into my computer then the computer attempts to charge the phone instead of browsing the files.  This is a terrible feature and there should be an option to determine the expected behaviour of the phone when connected to a PC, either charging, or mass storage device/MTP mode.  I do not charge my phone with a PC as the phone requires much more power than the PC can provide it, so it should not bother trying and just let me look at the files.  The current behaviour is as follows:
    1. Plug in phone
    2. See files in explorer
    3. Phone disappears from explorer and the charge icon is displayed on the phone
    4. Phone shows back up in explorer
    5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 about ten times before phone is gone in explorer completely.
Any ideas or help on this subject would be appreciated.

This sounds like more of an issue with your computer or USB ports than a phone issue. I can connect my 920 to my Windows 7 PC at any battery level to browse or transfer media.
Have you checked that the USB drivers for your PC are fully up to date? Also it may be worth trying a different USB cable.

  • Nokia 920 Camera - Unfocused and over-exposed phot...

I've been so let down with the camera on this phone.  Every photo taken appears out of focus and the white balance is WAY off making skin tones bleech white.  I've compared it to my old iphone 4s and the sharpness and color correctness blows my 920 away.
Is there any chance this can actually be fixed or will the lack of focus/sharpness continue to be an issue.  I only have two days left to return the phone if I dont like it and the main reason I bought it was for the camera and WM8.

You can tweak your exposure value to fix most of that problem but applying post-process sharpening is about the only way to improve the softness... unfortunately that is a bandaid. You can't really put fine detail back in to a picture after the fact. Some folks have reported better results after changing the aspect ratio to 4:3 but that claim is mostly unsubstantiated as far as I can tell.

I talked yesterday with Nokia care about images being not sharp on Lumia 920, and they told me that it is the first time thay get rapport about that issue? Very strange.
That sounds like standard support-line nonsense. The Lumia 920 camera issues are pretty well known and there have even been comments made by a Nokia rep that they are working on fixing the problem (clearly implying that Nokia is aware of the issue). The general census is that it is probably an issue with the compression/filtering the camera uses at the software level (so it should be relatively easy to fix through an update). Take a look at the fairly well lit shots in the first few articles that come up on Google... obvious issues.

You can certainly cherry pick best-case scenario shots from the Lumia 920 and say those look great (and everything is dandy because of it) but its the direct comparisons (apples to apples) that tell the real story. You can clearly see in med-high light situations the Lumia 920 consistently underperforms (compared to the iPhone 5 in particular... the camera on the 8x isn't really a selling point for that phone)..
"Nokia France’s Xavier des Horts responded to a tweet about this supposed issue, which described images taken with plenty of lighting as too smooth, or soft-looking. Des Horts only replied briefly, but did note that Nokia would work to make adjustments to the 920′s camera to address this issue."

  • Cannot receive Viber calls on my Nokia 920 unless ...

Hi.  My friends asked me to get viber so they could call me from overseas.  Unless I have the program open, I cannot receive any calls.  I imagine this is an issue with push notifications?  I did not have this problem on the messaging-only version that was first out.  Eventually missed calls pop up (with time stamps in order!), but that makes it super inconvenient to use this app.  Even if I have the app open, it will time out with my screensaver (which I can control), but I cannot just disable the screensaver and even if I did, chances are I'm using the phone and thus not merely leaving viber open hoping for a phone call.  I have ATT.
The viber boards (thank you, Viber, for not allowing me to contact you directly about this), list the following on their website (http://helpme.viber.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/455/29/messagescalls-notification-issue):
    Messages/calls notification issue
In case you are not receiving messages/calls notifications or receiving them later
than expected, please follow the next steps:
    1. Open phone settings
    2. Go to WiFI.
    3. Tap on 'Advanced'.
    4. Mark 'keep WiFi on when screen times out' .
The problem with this is on my Nokia 920 phone, there is no "keep WiFi on when screen times out" selection.  Similarly, in the "background tasks" section of Settings, Viber isn't even listed (I cannot even selected "allowed" like I can for AccuWeather or Kayak).  HELP!
    Thank you.

  • Touchscreen issue since IOS 5.1

Is anyone else having problems with the touchscreen since installing IOS 5.1? It seems like the calibration is off.
I am also unable to install apps. Ive tried restoring and soft resets but nothing seems to work.
Am I the only one? or does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks

Sorry -- no fixes for you but I, too, am experiencing this problem with my iPod Touch 4th gen. I even did a restore and reinstall from iTunes to see if there had been in installation issue (I had an installation issue over wi-fi where the Apple logo appeared with an empty progress bar for most of an hour). After a couple of re-boots it finally kicked in but with the touchscreen issue.  The restore didn't resolve anything. Kinda got a gut feel like the updates for the Ipad 3 screen resolution is what is causing the problem on the small screen of the iPhone/iPod. My iPad 1 isn't having any issues. I don't know if my wife's iPod is problematic or not. Both her iPad 1 and iPod 4 were updated last weekend but haven't heard any reports.

  • Nokia 920 on Pay Mountly account does not work in Europe..again.

So this is the second holiday I have gone on with my Nokia 920 and its not worked in Europe.I've had phone and account for well over a year now.Am on a Pay monthly deal and activated the "Euro Talk & Text Booster"  before I left. Checking my account - it is still active. Would not work - again. Pretty dissapointed, and if it happens again I will consider my options when it comes to renewing my account.. Annoyingly my wife and son's Nokia 620 and iphone 4 respectively both worked with cheap'n'cheerful GiffGaff PAYG accounts, but not my Pay Monthly phone. In all countries an Automatic search found nothing. Manual search in any location (France, Italy, Gibraltar and Portugal) found networks, but when I selected any of them it would say they could not be connected, whereas the Giffgaff phones worked with any network they found. Any help appreciated. MD

Sorry I don't see that. I have already looked here. When I get into my account I don't have have "Devices and Usage" option to select.I have a "My Phone", which I have recnetly manually selected as  the Nokia 920, as it was blank. The menu on the left hand side of the dashboard is shown belowI should point out I am currently on a SIM only deal I beleive. and the phone was not purchased through EE/T-mobile.I got the discounted SIM only deal when I tried to leave EE over a year ago. • Very Strange Touchscreen Issue

I recieved and activated my new 8GB iPhone about two days ago and it worked great up until just a few hours ago. I am experiencing the known issue of the bottom 1/2 inch or so of the touchscreen not responding to my touch, which in turn is affecting a lot of main elements of the phone such as SMS, e-mail, iPod, etc. Among that issue, I also encountered a very strange occurrence whilst I was testing the 'dead zone' on my iPhone: Certain sections of the dead zone work if I hover my finger about 2 -3 centimeters from the screen. It is a very strange thing but true, lol. I can even capture video footage of this if it's necessary.
Since I bought my iPhone from an AT&T store, should I return it to them for a new one on the spot or should I do it through Apple? I hope it doesn't come down to the latter since I do not live anywhere near an Apple Store (New Orleans, LA) and I just switched from T-Mobile to AT&T so I'd really hate to purchase a cheap temporary phone while my iPhone is being replaced/fixed.
Edit: Have a Merry Christmas, everyone!
    Message was edited by: Fiyerstorm

I just talked to Apple Support and they are going to repair it for me, it's just I need to wait til Friday since I am broke from Christmas! Once I get paid, then I can dish out the 30 dollars to get a rental iPhone to hold me over. The restore temporarily fixed the touchscreen issue since it happened again hours later.
Also, nobody I know who would have a spare AT&T phone doesn't come to mind so I can't just borrow a phone and start the repair process now, but the wait isn't too bad. At least they do not limit the iPhone rental to just physical Apple Store customers!
Thanks for the help, folks. :V

  • Yet another 920 battery issue; detailed mini-test

I have been having trouble with my 920 battery, but I waited the two weeks for the battery to "condition" assuming there really is such a thing. And, now my son received his 920, and he is complaining about his horrible battery life, too. So, I decided to do a test last night while driving home, and this morning when the phone was fully charged & not used. Former about the recharge speed while driving, and latter about idle discharge.
    **** This morning:
7:28am: Phone is unplugged off the wall, at 100%. LTE, NFC, Bluetooth enabled, but no NFC or BT connections made. Email set to "As Items Arrive". Nothing running in the background as verified by holding down the BACK button; only the START screen. The "background tasks allowed" apps are basically the defaults, including NokiaDrive; but none of them are actually shown as "running" when you hold the BACK button.
8:30am: 92%. During the last hour, the phone has not even been switched on, so even the screen hadn't come on. 8% loss in 1hr?! Only a few emails had arrived, but not looked at.
9:19am: 81%. Again, no use of the phone in the meantime. It has just been lying on the countertop. No phone/data features used except those used by the phone in the background. Almost 20% off in 2hrs!!
Basically, with the default features of the phone, after two weeks of "battery conditioning", while sitting on the countertop, starting from a 100% charge, not being used for anything actively, my phone seems to drain at 10%/hr.
In the meantime, my iPhone4 went from 100% to 100%.
    **** Last night:
I was driving home for about 30min. Before plugging the 920 into my 1amp USB car charger, it was at 57%. At the end of my drive, it was at 59%. That is 4%/hr recharge rate while the phone is using 10%/hr!
    **** Also:
Only anecdotally: It seems because of the difference between recharge/discharge speeds, when I use NokiaDrive while my 920 is plugged into the car charger, I still arrive at my destination with a *significant* battery loss. There were days when I left home at 100%, drove for 30-40mins, and arrived at 57%. Totally unacceptable.
**** NOKIA: Given all the complaints on the web & here on your own boards, I think it is time for you to announce something publicly, not just as a post here, but as a News article & email to all your registered users. Otherwise, you'll see many people switching away from your flagship phone. This is not just a few people running into the problem because they are doing this or that.
Using Nokia 920 running on Windows Phone 8

Worth reporting: After the phone drained by itself very quickly yesterday, I charged it again on the wall to 100%. It actually charged somewhat quickly. I don't have numbers, but it "felt" like 4hrs to full charge.
This morning, over the first hour off the wall, under the same conditions as before (LTE, BT, NFC all turned on, no background apps running), even with slightly more phone/data usage than yesterday, the drain was only 1%. It went from 100% to 99% in one hour, even though I drove around with it in the car, not on a charger, thus moved from cell tower to cell tower, from WiFi to WiFi, receiving & responding to email & text, none of which was happening yesterday. In other words, it performed about 10 times better this morning after full drain & recharge, even in the face of slightly increased usage.
So, maybe there really is something to recalibrating the li-ion battery by draining it fully and charging it up again. Talking to my son last night, he also said that after his phone drained fully a few times, not on purpose btw, it is behaving better now.
Of course, why Nokia would ship these phones with less than optimally calibrated batteries is beyond me. It feels like that is something that should be done at the factory, before the phone enters the box and gets to the consumer, as opposed to being part of the user's initial out-of-the-box experience.

  • Z10 Touchscreen Issues - Possible Solution?

A few months back my Z10 touchscreen became unresponsive. I could not find a solution, so I purchased a new Z10. Recenty I dropped the new Z10 in water...so, still in posession of the old unresponsive Z10, I decided to give it another try. I put my sim card in, and the new battery that came with the new phone. VOILA! Works like a charm. Try replacing your battery. i wish I had known this months ago, could have saved myself spending $200 on a new phone upgrade.

I'm happy for your positive outcome but I would argue that the battery was not the culprit. Sure, it appears that it was but exchanging batteries to correct a touchscreen issue is not something we would have suggested; I'm sure this is just coincidence.
Whatever the situation, you now have a Z10 in perfect working order. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
