Nokia 930 Screen, 2 days later

Just got the international phone in Canada. Lovely but slippery little **bleep**, and with no available accessories I foolishly tried to make due albeit carefully, though not carefully enough and it quickly made the one foot tumble to the cement and cracked while also shattering 2 small corner edges of the screen. Personally I thought this would've been a bit tougher than that (and I fear what this might mean vs. the supposed indestructible new iphones), but it's manageable for the time being and I entirely blame myself.
That being said, what can I do, being a Canadian, to find a possible and affordable means to replace this screen? I was aware of this issue potentially arising when I made the purchase (though who thought so soon ), I'm obviously entitled to no warranty so in no way am I expecting anything in that sense. I'm just asking if anyone can help me find a reasonable solution that doesn't feel like I'm buying a new phone after I just bought a new phone.

Supplemental feedback, I had thought about my last phone just now. I intentionally destroyed my old phone, it was an iPhone 4 and I hated it. It, and many other things, **bleep** me off so much that I decided to end my relationship with that phone once and for all and threw it at the cement as hard as I could in an intense fit of rage... and had it embarrassingly bounce back with a small nick around the edge (mind you there WAS a screen protector on it that I attribute to this strength mainly) but the back was completely unprotected and suffered little damage as well. Frustrated! Insulted! I picked it up and threw it again, thing bounced back and this time it had a crack on the back but the front still had no damage. That's it... grabbed the shovel and a few stabs later, end of iPhone.
Regardless, these are my personal experiences with these devices... I imagine what this might mean if others experience these same (or similar, let's be realistic, not everyone's psychotic against their phones) instances and not think rationally(lol, I'm laughing at myself too).
I support Microsoft, but I don't want to see weak screens be their downfall in their next big push. I imagine we'll do fine though.

Right side of screen started showing 2, pixel wide vertical lines. A few day later colors in pics and vid posterized. Vertical lines don't show in screen capture but pics still bad. Ran hardware test from disk, ok, adjusted color in sys prefs, new profiles a bit better but still bad, mpeg worse, jpeg bad. No better in new user account. Now a month later, right side has 8 vert lines and occasionally a slightly darker area in bottom corners for a few seconds. Reset pram, battery plugged into adaptor 99%. I can notice, for a slit second, when the screen saver is on, when I move cursor to get back to desktop, true color of  image can be seen for a flash of a second.

sorry, was in a rush, any suggestions to fix or ideas of what has gone wrong

    THIS IS RAZA
    I GOT A MACBOOK PRO
I HAVE A PROBLEM. PROBLEM IS how to solve this problem i have uploaded in .... all the time few days later on i face this problem in safari..... anyone can help me please.....thanks

This is a scam. Do not phone these people, at best they will charge you for unnecessary 'cleaning' and at worst they will gain access to your Mac and steal your data. You've probably managed to install some 'adware' which is producing this fake warning. 'Adwaremedic' should remove it and is safe to use - please see

Wanting to know if any others out there face the same problem and wanting to know whether the scratches are just on the protector or on the actual screen itself.....
    Pour in the replies

    Hey 36541258 (funny name ;-) ),
the same thing happened to me, I took of the Nokia screen protector and two days later I had the scratches on the phone. I never used the stylus, I guess it was something in my pocket. I now bought a screen protector and a cell phone pouch but still the scratches bug me so much :-( When the screen is black or dark, you can see the scratches, my bad! I guess we have to live with the scratches, you can't do nothing with touch screens. If I find something out, I will let you know. You too please...

  • Why does my iMac just quit and it won't turn back on. Sometimes I can start it a few days later.

It was working just fine and then it just quit. I tried turning it back on but it wouldn't work. Then like 3 days later, I tried turning it on and it came on and worked ok and just quit again.  Again, I tried turning it back on and again, it wouldn't come on. I tried again a few days later and it came on. What the heck is wrong with this computer?   It has Mac OS X 10.6.8 and the following is the info I got from profiler:
    Model Name:                       iMac
    Model Identifier:                   iMac4,1
    Processor Name:                Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed:               2 GHz
    Number of Processors:       1
    Total Number of Cores:       2
    L2 Cache:                             2 MB
    Memory:                                2 GB
    Bus Speed:                          667 MHz
    Boot Rom Version:              IM41.0055.B08
    SMC Version (system)       1.1f5
    Serial Number (system)     QP********U2S
    Hardware UUID                   00000000-0000-1000-8000-0016CB8BC90C
It had a program called deep freeze on it when I first obtained it. That program would not allow me to make any changes or save anything. A friend gave me a disk and I installed it and it took that program away. It was working fine and then as I said, just quit. I got the computer from an auction from a community college and deep freeze was the program they used to make sure the students using the computers couldn't change anything. When ever the computer got turned off, it would default back to factory settings. When it first turned off and wouldn't start again, I tried taking out one of the two memory sticks and it worked. I then went and bought two new memory sticks and installed them and it worked ok. Then it started doing the same thing again.

    Hi codyfromchurchill falls,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below will provide some troubleshooting steps if your iPhone is unresponsive or won't turn on.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201412
If you see a black screen
You might need to charge your device before it can turn on. Plug in your device and let it charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad), then try turning it on.
You should see a battery icon while your device is charging. If you continue to see a black screen, reset your device. If your device doesn't respond when you press buttons
Your device might not return to the Home screen when you press the Home button, wake from sleep when you press the Sleep/Wake button, slide to unlock or power off, or it might appear frozen. Try these steps:
    Restart your device.
If it still doesn't respond, or if it doesn't turn back on, reset your device.
If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

  • Nokia black screen

How to get back to normal screen from Nokia black screen?

Hi, hemangona99. Sorry for the late response. Can you further elaborate on your concern? What do you mean by Nokia black screen? Are you referring to your theme, or the Glance screen? BTW, what's your phone model?

  • Nokia 930 Charging woes

    Hi,
I recently bought a Lumia 930, great phone, but charging it up seems to be quite problematic. Sometimes i plug it in and it charges at a very slow rate, or not at all. Also I always plug it in before i go to bed, and i sometimes wake up in the morning with it less charge then it had when i plugged it in. See the image attached, as you can see, it procedes to charge up ok (24:00), keeps at full charge for a while (2:00-5:00), then suddenly procedes to drop in charge (5:00-08:00) then i unplug the charger, and it stops losing charge...
And yes i am using the charger provided with the phone, and have also tried other ones, all the same.

I have had a bad time with this as well - made much worse by a shoddy attitude from EE.
Basically it complains of slow charging and that I should use the official charger even when using the official charger. It also blew out the induciton plate on the 2nd day. And gets red hot.
Read if you are interested about EE (Bath Southgate)
At the end of July we lost all power, routers etc. in our office. As we were going for several weeks and my old HTC HD2 was a bit hard work for reading e-mail, we decide to buy some new phones. Went into EE in Bath and despite them not having the 15 sreis phablet I had wnated I bought a Nokia 930 (which amonst other things, the sales guy assured me ran Cortana); [I was also offered a free extra charger, bluetooth speakers - which I never got ].
Paid full price (no new contract) took it back to the office charged it on the induction plate (got very hot). On the 2nd day the induction pad failed. Went on holiday in a tent and noticed that every thing I tried to charge it with came up with slow charging and some silly text about a hppy phone and using the manufacturer's charge and cable. (Even when using a battery pack that keeps an Ipad happy still got the message). On a breif visit to a pub with a wall socket I saw the mesasge form the charger but thought little of it. Towards the end of the holiday I visited another location with sockets and got the same problem. During one of (many) chats with support [initilally we had a lot of problems with the internet as well] I was todl that they couldn't help me over the phone but if I took it back to the EE store they would be able to replace it.
Today I got into Bath (30 mile round trip), went to the store and was shocked to be told that they had a 14 day policy and would not replace the phone. They offered to send it for repair with a minimum wait of 2 weeks (remember my wife and I had spent £950 on two phones earlier in the month and my phone had never worked properly and I had been told by support that I coudl take it back when I next got to the shop - i.e. the problem had been motified.. T-mobile support were actually alot more helpful even suggesitng that I followed up with my suggestion that I should stop the credit card and that the approach of the store was very disappointing (apparently they woudl normally offer a loan phone to cover returns).
Oddly the guy (and his manager) in the shop didn't want to test the phonebut jsut said that they believed me - sounds like the problem is known.
Anyway, I will try a hard reset (and all the pain of that) as t-mobile support said that sometiems sorts out Nokias.
But I storngly suggest that if you want a phone you don't buy from a EE shop who don't mention their poor return policy when you are buying; Amazon would have taken it back and they wouldn't expect me to pay full price for what will be in effect a refurbished phone; poeple wonder why the High Street is dying.
[Teh guy in shop seemed to think that their "policy" was the law - which it isn't. I thik in this day and age a 2 week loss of your phone in the 1st month doesnt count as a reoasnbale repair or being of merchatnabel quality]
    Nice phone though.

  • "28 Days Later"  shot in DV

I saw a rave review of 28 Days Later that mentioned it was shot in digital video. The review also mentioned the benefits of shooting in DV.
Just interesting to note that major studio releases are being created in DV.
    Mitch

I saw this film last week but have been to busy to comment on it until now.
I couldn't stop thinking about it the next day. 28 Days Later is incredible. I could write a whole lot of stuff about it, but basically just take Gregory Miskin's review and turn it the other way around.
When they killed someone, it was either a total surprise or a total heartbraker. The relationship development in this film is so well done. And they don't just have shakey cameras and quick cuts, they
    i use
them to enhance their telling of the story in a very effective way - who says you always have to see the action to be affected by it? In a horror context what you don't see is often the scariest part of all. I never once found myself going "hey, look at that shakey camera". All the while I was seeing the film, creaking my neck to try and see around the corner of the frame at what was coming, wincing from the fear of not being able to tell who was being killed and who was doing the killing until the deed was done and someone was left standing, the other mangled and wet...
The look of DV blown up onto a big screen is definately not the same as what we see on our TVs. Its basically 720x480 pixels stretched across a screen meant for resolutions 10 times that, so what you see are giant pixles that more or less take the shape of things. Sometimes its clearer looking than others. Only a few times, for a brief moment, was I not sure what I was supposed to be looking at, and other times things looked perfectly clear. Its a look that works for this film for the most part, but isn't something I would expect to see in a slew of films to come, especially any type of standard drama or comedy.
There are artistic elements in this film that really set it apart as well. Little moments that speak to those of us who are have become fully integrated into the film while we are watching it in ways that go beyond the standard conventions, and because we have been drawn so deep inside the movie we can understand these moments without having to take the time to think about them. Afterwords our minds are flooded with the afterthoughts of what we saw and how we were affected and we shake our heads in disbelief thinking, how did they do that?
One final note. Just because this movie was shot on DV don't think for a second that they shot a cheap film. There appeared to be no expense spared in the stuff that filled the screen in this movie, the same as any other blockbuster summer movie. The only difference is that the stuff in this movie isn't just tacked on to make it look more expensive and exciting like most of the candy-coated flicks that are in the theatres now. This film has substence, and it is long lasting in the effect it will have on you.

  • Nokia 930 - Camera Button is no longer Silver

    Hi
I thought that the Nokia 930 used alumunuim for the frame and buttons.
The volume and central button are fine, but the camera button is almost lost the aluminum coour and looks black.
Should i clean the button with some tyoe of cleaning materials?

Strange indeed... The buttons of my Lumia Icon are still grey/silver and I've been using the phone for two months right now.
But the screen is not (so) scratch resistant  I put my phone to the pocket of my fleece shirt and the zipper of the pocket did a scratch to the display

  • Would a backup occur if I was downloading pictures to Picassa 3. Did a real backup take place w/I-Tunes ? I don't remember if I saw that. Three days later while trying to sync I had a msg "iTnes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

Would a backup occur if I was downloading pictures to Picassa 3 ??? Did a real backup take place w/I-Tunes, at that same time ???   I don't remember if I saw that on the screen.  Three days later while trying to sync my iPHone,  I had a msg "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
Concern:  Will I lose all my media and other data ?  Just hate to push the RESTORE & UPDATE button, only to find out I have LOST all that stuff.  My son says it should be backed up when I did the 4.3.2 of iPhone. Concerned a ton over this problem.
Thanks to anyone out there who might be able to help.  Would appreciate any ideas.
      PLS HELP
    --tinker62

Syncing photos does NOT sync the phone; the camera is considered a separate device from the rest of the iPhone. You sync with iTunes, and should do it often enough so you don't cry if you lose all data on the phone.
At this point you have no choice; there is no way to NOT restore it. If the last backup is not corrupt it should restore the phone as of the time of the last backup.

  • I accidentally synced my mum's brand new iPad to my mac book air. A few days later I realised that my iTune library on my mac is completely gone. So is my iPhone 4s after I synced it with my mac. How do I get my old iTunes library back? Please help!

I accidentally synced my mum's brand new iPad to my mac book air. A few days later I realised that my iTune library on my mac is completely gone. So is my iPhone 4s after I synced it with my mac. How do I get my old iTunes library back? I tried using icloud on my iphone but it stated that I have never back up my phone before. So I guess my iCloud data is gone too? But I have back up my mac in my harddrive using time machine. So how do I get my old itune library back? Please help! Thanks!

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • All day events created on iPod touch syncing a day late in iCal

    Hi everyone,
When I create an all day event on the iPod touch and then sync to my mac, the newly created event shows up a day late in iCal, but remains correct on the iPod. I've noticed one or two other forums where people are having this problem but it doesn't appear to have been solved yet. Has anyone got any ideas about why this would happen? It's really bugging me as the calendar was one of the main reasons I bought the iPod in the first place, I'm thinking about taking it back if I can't get it to work. It appears to be a new problem as of some time this year (judging by other's experience, I've only had mine a week) so perhaps a dodgy software update?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

should clarify that I deleted duplicate events on the ipod so that should have left one in ical. there is still one listed in ical on the ipod but not on the computer, so deleting duplicate entry deleted it entirely from my ical on computer and mobile me. no icloud yet

  • Events are a day late than entered and duplicated

since ios5, events are showing up on the ipad a day later than they did before the uprade. ical on the mac was doing the same mistake before the upgrade. the actual info of the event shows the correct date and time.
i did change the first day of the week to monday (on the mac), in case that gives anyone a clue. changing it back doesn't cure it though.
time support is on - i am located in new zealand - on both ipad and macbook. turning it off doesn't cure the problem.
on the mac, most events are duplicated, sometimes on the same day, but some events are shown on the correct day plus a day later.
one of my main reasons for using an ipad, indeed mac at all, is that it "just works".
sync is now done over icloud.
does anybody know why this is happening? i need to enter new events but can't trust the software not to stuff it up. back to pen and paper...

just thought to check on ical on icloud. same problem, but as with the ipad, no duplications.
