Nokia 9500 connect without Bluetooth

Hi all!
I have searched the forums and on google, but didn't find any answers.
Everybody (who has one) seems to connect their Nokia 9500 Communicator via Bluetooth to a Powerbook.
Is there a possibility to connect via the provided USB-cable? When I plug in the cable, it seems that the phone is not even recognized. It should show up in Network preferences --> Network Port Configurations, shouldn't it? So that I can set it up as a wireless modem.
Is there anything that I am missing?
I hope you can give me some pointers.
thanks and kind regards, Herlind

Unfortunately, iSync does not support the synchronization of Nokia mobile handsets via USB: you must use a Bluetooth link.
If your computer is not equipped with built-in Bluetooth, you can purchase a D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth USB adapter—which is explicitly supported by Apple, and to which you can apply Apple Bluetooth firmware updates—or, you can take your chances [with varying degrees of success] with other Bluetooth adapters.
You might want to browse or search the Other Bluetooth Devices forum for more information about this issue. It is located here:

  • Nokia 9500 connection problems

    Hi,
I have a nokia 9500, and I am unable to synchronise my phone and pc via a USB cable. I am using the correct cable, and the latest version of the PC Suite is installed, as well as the cable drives but still, no joy. The pc picks up the phone when I plug the cable in, and reads it as "new hardware found Nokia 9500" but on trying to connect the two, the Nokia PC Sync window reports that it is "Not Connected".
The phone is switched on but the pc doesn't seem to recognise that there is a phone connected despite the USB connection detecting the phone.
    Any help would be great.

Is the problem you have related to "client is not responding"?
I received info from damn_delicious on Forum Nokia how to solve that.
    1. Unplug your phone from PC
    2. Remove battery
    3. Insert battery and start up phone.
    4. Go to Tools - Sync - press Menu - go to Tools menu - choose "reset PC sync profile" - exit
    5. Go to Tools - device manager - press Menu - go to Tools menu - choose "reset PC sync profile" - exit
    On the PC:
    1. Open "My computer" browse to C:\Documents and settings\*username*\application data\Nokia\PCSync\Syncdata - delete the folder with the long number (this is just your computer that remembers your phones sync settings)
Now you have deleted all sync settings in phone and the PC. Now try to connect the phone and then try again and see if it works ;-)

  • PC Suite 6.8 - Nokia 6230 - Connects ok but no Syn...

    Hi.
Finally got 6.8 to install on my Windows Xp SP2 machine.
Had the previous version installed and working ok. Had to uninstall/reinstall several times and use many of the fixes listed on this site to finally get 6.8 installed.
Phone connects via bluetooth ok and I can see files on the phone and transfer them back and forth.
PC Suite main window shows Nokia 6230 connected via Bluetooth.
Select synchronize. PC Sync window opens with Not Connected shown at the top of the form. The Synchronise Now and Settings buttons are greyed out. If I push Select Phone nothing happens.
Anyone any idea what the problem is ?

If you open File Manager in PC Suite and locate your phone at the left panel (you must have folders view in Windows Explorer), scroll to contacts folder under the phone, select update button phone with arrow in the upper area of the file manager window, do you get your contacts updated to PC from the phone ?
Just asking this question to narrow down the problem causes, if you get the contact to File Manager/Nokia Phone Browser, your syncronisation with the phone is propably OK, but the PC Sync application is stuck.
Another thing that may help PC Sync to realise the phone is connected is to open manage connections and untick the bluetooth option and then tick it back.
The is also a separate exit option in PC Sync, if you locate the jingjang symbol from Windows tray(bottom right of your screen)right click the icon you can see exit. Choose that and then reopen PC Sync from PC Suite main view.
OK, opend file manager from PC Suite.
The folder structure I see is
    My Bluetooth places->Entire Blutooth Neighborhood->Nokia 6230->
The only subfolder from this level is OBEX file transfer and below that are graphics,Images,Memory Card, Music files,Recordings,Tones,Video Clips
I don't see any contacts folder.
I can go into the memory card folder, see my music tracks and transfer them back and forth.
    Tried unticking/ticking. Makes no difference
Tried closing/reopening PC Sync, no difference.
If I click on the phone icon Nokia 6230 just below Entire bluetooth neighborhood then the right hand panel shows
Audio Gateway on Nokia 6230 (not connected)
COM1 on Nokia 6230 (not connected)
Dial Up Networking on Nokia 6230
Nokia PC Suite on Nokia 6230 (not connected)
OBEX file transfer on Nokia 6230
OBEX Object Push on Nokia 6230
If I double click Nokia PC Suite on Nokia 6230 it changes to show connected. If I right click on the icon and select status the signal strength shows GOOD, but after a minute or two the phone beeps and the icon changes back to not connected.
I noticed that after open/close PC Synch the first time I am no longer able to select Manage Connections. I have to reboot the machine before Manage connections will work again.
Throughout all of this, the icon in the system tray is saying that the Nokia 6230 is connected via Bluetooth.
Why is this so god damn difficult ??

I have seen another discussion re the log file problems with the same effects on the phone performance. I am wondering how many are bothered about this matter and how many report it. Most of us do not bother to waste time on a discussion board, but think on how quick to make the next buck... Most of us will return the phone to the shop, upgrade or chop it away and get a different model. It is only few of us who realy wonder why this thing happens or the other does not with a phone or anything else. I have not tried the 5-10 days time lenght for the log file, but I'll do it in the future and come back to the forum with the results. The firmware version of my phone is: v 05.22(01) 03-06-2005 RA-2. Is there an update? How do I update it?
    Thanks,

    Hi all,
i am trying to connect to a bluetooth device that does not manage pairing numbers.
I can do that with other laptops, windows xp  and a bluetooth Digicom usb key,
but i can't with my T420, windows 7 and the Lenovo bluetooth.
When i add the device, i choose "connect without pairing" but when i try to connect to the serial port of the device, i receive the message "allow a device to connect" and i am required for the pairing code !!
    Any suggestion?

The default pairing code will vary between products.
Common variants include 0000 and 1234.
It is best to consult the Bluetooth device's manual.

It sounds like your programs are looking for info on the internet.. could be just looking for/checking for updates.. nothing wrong with that.
You say your on DSL, but when this happens are you connected to the network? If you are, I can't think of a reason why you would be prompted for a Bluetooth connection.
And the other posted is correct.. if you move your Ethernet/Dsl connection to the top of the list it should prompt you to do something with your DSL connection.

  • The PC Suite is not connecting with bluetooth.

Neither PC Suite nor Ovi Suite identifies the bluetooth module on my laptop. The bluetooth module that I have is Motorola v2.1 EDR, and the OS installed is Windows 7 32 bit.
My bluetooth module works fine. Windows is able to communicate to my mobile over bluetooth.  I can browse my 5800XM phone on windows explorer via bluetooth without problem.
    Whereas
In PC Suite, if I try to get connected via bluetooth, I get the following error message "Cannot use the connection type. Check that all the needed hardware, software and drivers are available."
In Ovi Suite, I will get Bluetooth option disabled.I have tried all the setting of the bluetooth device. I tried enabling bluetooth serial port also. But it didn't help. I have tried enalbling the Bluetooth network adapter also. But no help.

Hi as per supported Bt list your driver is not supported by Nokia. I am not sure this could be the problem.

  • Connecting with Bluetooth--AppleScript Error

My current internet connection is through my mobile company here in Italy while studying abroad using the bluetooth of my phone. There's a program that I have to run from the company to connect, and the first few days after installing Leopard I was able to still connect, but with several glitches (i.e. locking up, my menu bar freezing in the connection, time, and power area showing the pinwheel when I hovered over it) and this caused me to have to force my laptop to shut down by holding the power button on several occasions.
Now when I open the program, as it is loading the phone information and taking control of the network settings, I am greeted by a message saying, "The application FMM3MYIC quit unexpectedly." offering me to ignore, report, or relaunch. Both ignoring and relaunching lead to a second message saying (translated from Italian) "AppleScript Error: The localconnectionstatus variable is not defined. (-2753)" Ultimately this leads me without a connection.
Any hints as to why it was running fine before and not now? I've recently installed the two latest updates thinking that might help and deleted the files as well as re-installed the program.
I know nothing really about scripts, but would it be possible to edit the script for the program. Any help would be great--I went to a local Mac store (not an official one--just a support and sales place) here in Milan and they were really of no help. His suggestion was to run DiskUtility, which did me no good. Anyway thanks in advance.

Could you verify a couple of things please?
Are the 64-bit desktop and 32-bit laptop both paired to the same Nokia 5800, and are they used in such a way that both computers could be connected via Bluetooth to the 5800 at the same time? You should verify that the previous Bluetooth connection is turned off before using another. This can be done for example by disabling the bluetooth dongle from the other computer. It could be said that Ovi Suite doesn't support connecting to a mobile phone from multiple computers.
Are you able to pair your Nokia 5800 with the Toshiba laptop at all? Or did I understand the problem correctly, that after restarting the Mobile device, it can be connected to the laptop? If it is a pairing problem, you could try pairing the device outside Ovi Suite by using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack directly.
If the problem is not one of the above mentioned, and it persists, it could help if you post the following information to your reply (from Ovi Suite):

  • Ad Hoc connection using Bluetooth

    Hi,
Is it possible to create a Ad Hoc connection using a Bluetooth Dongle, I have no idea about Ad Hoc & Infrastructure Modes, So can anybody tell me if it is possible to create Ad Hoc wireless connection using Bluetooth Dongle ?
I wanted to use WLAN in my Nokia N96, I don't have a Wireless Router. I have read a few articles about Ad Hoc connections, What I assume is..A WLAN connection can be created without a WiFi Router. Is it possible ?  If "yes" can anybody tell me the steps ?
    Thanks & Regards
      Sujay Kumar

If you have a wired (LAN) accesspoint you can set up a Internet Connection Sharing with a PC or laptop and your phone. They both need WLAN. Look at this setup for XP.

printer is an HP office jet V45. I have set the printer type to HP office jet printers, dont know how to get the firmware info.

When i try to pair the devices i get "pairing failed. Do you want to try again". That is after entering the 4 digit code
Re the citizen printer, i have been on their site and dont see any drivers for the nokia, i have tried the setting "general" but it prints about 7 lines then stops
