Nokia and VoIP

Anyone can give me some advices or infos about VoIP on mobile phones? Witch Nokia phones support this feature and anyone has some ideea about providers and costs? Please, my gf is half way around the worl/discussions/board/post?board.id=connectivity#
Submitd and my phone bills are killing me...

I think the best software for VOIP on symbian phones is fring, which is available for free download from
www.fring.com
Almost all N and E series Nokia phones and definitely all of them with Wifi capability support this feature.

  • X5800 how to use SIP and VOIP

Hello, I have a X5800 music, model 5800d-1 and I can enter all the necessary SIP data. I get the message (settings, connectivity, admin settings, sip settings) registered which is fine. My provider is freephonie. Question: 1) Although on the freebox the SIP is activated, I don't receive incoming call on my nokia. 2) How do I tell my nokia to call on the internet ? Is it possible only using SIP tel numbers which I can enter in the contacts list? Help much appreciated. Pierre.

SIP and VoIP are not synonymous. VoIP can indeed use SIP (and often does), but other services, such as video sharing for example, also use SIP.
It so happens that the 5800 has no native support for VoIP, which is why you can't make SIP calls using it.
Your only solution for SIP is to use third-party services such as fring, for example. Once logged into your fring account you can subscribe to a SIP service. Fring's systems will register to the SIP account and relay the comminucation through your fring account. There's lag and the audio quality isn't as good as a direct SIP connection but at least it works.
The alternative is to use a phone that supports VoIP/SIP natively.

  • E52 - Nokia SIP VoIP application - help needed

    Hi there,
I am pretty new here.  I need the Nokia SIP VoIP application for my E52, something like SIP_VoIP_3_1_Settings_S60_3.... .sis
    Where can I get it?
My problem is, that I can set up easily an VoIP service with my phone and it connects perfectly.  However, I can't use it with my E52 since I can't activitate it on my phone.  I would need the option:  > connection > Internet Tel. Settings   which is not there.
I guess I need the Nokia SIP VoIP application, however I can't find a compatible version, and the SIP_VoIP_3_1_Settings_S60_5_x_v1_0_en.sis does not work.
    Thanx
    Caristeo

Although I've never used it, I was able to install the SIP Settings program for my E73 (same OS and Feature Pack as your phone) from http://www.developer.nokia.com/info/sw.nokia.com/id/d476061e-90ca-42e9-b3ea-1a852f3808ec/SIP_VoIP_Se... .  (You need to make an account if you don't have one already.)  Download the "SIP VOIP 3.x" version.  I do have a Settings -> Connection -> SIP Settings option on my phone, as well as Control Panel -> Net Settings -> Advanced VOIP Settings.  Hope that helps.

  • How to set up VLAN for DATA and VOIP on SRW248G4P switch?

    Hi guys,
I am totally new and was given this task to complete. I  really really need help.
We are using one network 192.168.1.0
    Shared  with data and voip.
    CISCO C870, 5 switches LINKSYS SRW248G4P .
    The  email wrote:-
    On the Linksys switch;
    - create two  different VLANs one for voice and one for data.
    - put a firewall  between the two VLANs (between voice and data) and only enable certain  ports to flow to voice network (inbound tcp 8443 and ssh )
What  should i do guys? I really need a dumb guide now.
I know its simple for  you guys but i am not a smart IT fella. Whats the  step by step?

If the switch is new or you have support on this, then you might try calling the support center.  Here is a link:
    https://www.myciscocommunity.com/community/smallbizsupport
On the right hand side you can find links to the support center.
Here is a link to the guide:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9967/prod_maintenance_guides_list.html
@ the bottom of this link you can find your switch model, you want the larger of the two.  In this guide it shows you how to create a second vlan.
Will your router be the firewall between the two?
    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Lissitz

  • Doubt about integration CUCM and VoIP Provider

    Hi Guys,
I have the follow doubt: Is possible to do integration CUCM and VoIP Provider using authentication? Is there necessary another equipment to do this? CUBE for example? or another alternative
    Thanks,
    Wilson

If you are referring to authentication over sip trunk, then NO! CUCM doesn't do authentication you will need a CUBE for that

  • Club Nokia and Nokia Sweden not responding on e-ma...

    Hallo!
I have few questions about the membership and registration in Club Nokia which the Nokia Care staff could not or didn't want to answer on. The Nokia Sweden support staff didn't even reply to my message. Not only did they not reply on my message concerning the Club Nokia membership, but they never seem to reply on anything, what ever question I ask them. Once there was some technical issue with the Web site and one of the many of my messages didn't seem to have been sent to them. But that can be excused. But what about all the other times I have sent messages to them which they didn't reply on? I have been sending messages (via the e-mail contact form) to Nokia Sweden ever since I bought my first Nokia mobile phone which was like year 2003 or something like that. And they always replied on any concerns I might have had. But during the last like two years right now I was never able to get a reply from them whatever question I brought up, including the question about what's up with them and this behaviour. I have been sending messages to them for two years time period right now, from different computers, even different operating systems, and filling out different e-mail addresses where I want the reply to be sent. But still nothing!
Maybe it will work out better and I may get the reply faster if I send them the message in a bottle?... they are such a****les! This behaviour has changed my whole picture of Nokia as a company and as a brand. It used to be easy and obvious to me before what brand I would buy when I walked out to buy a new mobile phone. But right now if I was about to buy a new mobile phone (have a N73 right now) I would be in some serious doubt whether or not to buy a Nokia phone. Mobile phones of today are not as they were three or five years ago. Today, other manufacurers have developed and improved their product lines quite radically. Simply put: Nokia is not the best brand in the bussiness anymore. A Nokia product is not the only good enough product. Besides, their handhelds are totally useless on a Linux computer. That goes totally against and is contrary to their claimed beliefes and almost heroic proclamation of open source and Symbian OS being the best solution for smartphones which several manufacturers use today in their products. So I might chose a competing brand instead. What ever brand I might chose in the near future (i'm planning to buy a new smartphone or PDA next year) I will definitly take in concern the producers relation with customers. I don't accept the way I have been treated by Nokia Sweden. I could of course have called them on the phone, but that's not an excuse for the e-mail communication to be out of function, out of order, or what ever is going on over there.
E-mail communication is becoming and already is a basis for corporation-customer communication. Many big names in the IT bussiness have solely technical support by e-mail, and nothing else. When they do have technical support by phone, a great part of the customer base choses to e-mail them instead. So e-mail communication is becoming more used then the phone even between regular people like us who spend time on this discussion board. So e-mail communication is not something that is allowed to be neglected in favor for support via the phone. If we look at the way people communicate today it would become obvious that e-mail and SMS/MMS communication play an important part.
And Nokia is supposed to be "Connecting People"! Hah! So ironic!
Note! One very important thing that must be underlined here is that this bad relation thing, and Nokia not replying on e-mails only and surely applies to Nokia Sweden. Nokia UK for instance has always replied to what ever the question I had in mind. So for every time Nokia Sweden didn't reply to me, I translated the message to English and asked Nokia UK and I always got a sattisfying answer. Many thanks to you guys! You're the best! This positive and good reception may be a reason enough for me to move to England! Seriously!
Initially I just wanted to ask the questions I have below. But I felt like this post needed to be expanded little bit to give you a short flashback or foreword and to share my experience with you. Feel free to comment if you have had any bad experience with either Nokia Sweden or other Nokia support or customer care or so called "Nokia Care" depertments.
    Now to my initial questions.
    1. What is Club Nokia?
    2. What's the difference between Club Nokia and My Nokia? If My Nokia is just a new name for Club Nokia, then what else has changed except the name?
    3. Is it true that one can get a personal Club Nokia card by mail after registering for Club Nokia?
    4. What is the Club Nokia card used for?
    5. Is it a condition that must be fulfilled that one registers the purchased phone and shows the Club Nokia card in order to get warranty service at an authorized Nokia service shop? If it's not a condition for warranty service to have the Club Nokia card, can it still be used for those purposes (i.e. verifying the date of purchase) instead of showing the purchase receive?
    Thanks in advance!

And if you need to contact them in your own language, you could maybe use the contact form on nokia.se pages:
    http://www.nokia.se/link?cid=PLAIN_TEXT_494072
after doing a quick google around the subject it seems pretty clear that there is no club nokia anymore but rather MyNokia. They do have swedish site:click here

  • My Nokia and my Android 2.2 Galaxy S

After using N97 for about one year (of which it tortured me really badly for three months at least) I've bought me a Galaxy S as my second (first?) set. After few days of a very extensive use of it I've come to my first comparative conclusions:
    1. I understand perfectly why people consider Nokia as obsolete and Galaxy as a hitech device. The screen of this slimmest of communicators is absolutely fantastic because of brightness, resolution, colors, personalization options, its fabulous 'living' - animated - themes and picturesque icons, which however are said to be less exquisite compared to those of Apple. Me personally I don't see much difference BTW. But now it has become really painful to look at the N97 screen....
    2. Android has some obvious shortcomings, and the set has shortcomings, too. Primarily, in my view, the set lacks two things: the green button and the red button. Keeping them from one model to another is one of Nokia's excellent solutions, and using the back button on Galaxy as a one of the most common ways to terminate programs looks annoying at the very least. The ergonomics of Galaxy imho also shows two other epic failures: the power/screen lock button is clearly designed for left-handed people with Paganini fingers, and the back button and  menu button are completely invisible unless you touch them. The touch screen seems excessively sensitive in general, I must say (iPhone feels better imho)...
If one tells you that Android is decidedly crushing Symbian in terms of its intuitivity and simplicity of use, count me out: I don't think it is 100% true. Some things are easier, some not. What is definitely true is a much more visually oriented interface: you have to deal less with text options and spend more time sweeping the screen with your fingers.
    3. Android resembles somewhat iOS in terms of performing operations in the background with you having a rather limited control over them. It may be both power and money consuming under certain condition. And BTW Galaxy runs out of power very, very quickly!! If I use internet extensively, I might have to charge the set twice within 24 hours.
    4. To my surprise, Android 2.2 turned out to be slightly slower than 2.1 showing perceptible lags here and there , presumably because of a more extensive memory use. However, the web surfing speed is light years ahead of my old Nokia: the both sets use Opera 10.1 (still beta for Android), so I may compare accurately.  Similarly, Android Market is light years ahead of OVI in terms of the quantity of applications, but nothing is perfect there: it is much harder to browse through thousands of applications than in OVI, a large part of programs are very alike, while the browser looks too primitive for such an immense inventory.
    5. OVI Suite, and music library in particular, are much better conceived by NOKIA than their analogues from Google and Samsung. The quality of implementation is yet questionable in both cases.
    6. Now we come to the most important issue. Yes, Android is much, much more stable than Symbian at the moment. I have not experienced a single serious crash so far, not to say about the set hanging or rebooting by itself. But... Yes,to conclude, I would return to Nokia as soon as it produces a more reliable handset (I expect E7 or smthing like N9 to hit the market). Most probably I shall use two sets simultaneously as I usually do (once there were a E66 and an HTC, then N97 and E66, etc.), one Nokia and one Android; I dislike very much the ecstatic and even religious iPhone crowd anyway, so Apple is not an option to me at all. But all this happening no sooner, than the N8 death issue has been resolved, for sure...

  • Is there anyway to connect iphone to other devices via bluetooth.like nokia and other phones

Is there anyway to connect iphone to other devices via bluetooth.like nokia and other phones

    No
Bluetooth is supported for stereo headsets/speakers, handsfree telephone devices/headsets, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store, and tethering where provided by the carrier.
Other than this, it will not connect to any computer/phone/device.

  • #NextChapter for Nokia and Microsoft

    Hello community!
Today we have big news! Below here you’ll find today’s announcement regarding Microsoft to acquire Nokia Devices & Services, signed by Nokia’s and Microsoft CEOs, if you wish to read the original in English language go here: http://conversations.nokia.com/2013/09/03/the-next-chapter-an-open-letter-from-steve-ballmer-and-ste...
Nokia and Microsoft have always dreamed big – we dreamed of putting a computer on every desk, and a mobile phone in every pocket, and we’ve come a long way toward realizing those dreams.
Today marks a moment of reinvention.
Nokia has an identity spanning 150 years of heritage, innovation, excellence, and change which began and will continue in Finland, as well as around the world. From humble beginnings as a paper mill, to manufacturing rubber boots and car tires, and then to mobile phones, reinvention is in Nokia’s blood.
Now Nokia will write its next chapter, focused on enabling mobility through its leadership in networking, mapping & location, and advanced technologies.
For Microsoft as well, today is a bold step into the future, a huge leap forward on our journey of creating a family of devices and services that delight people and empower businesses of all sizes.
Our partnership over the past two and a half years, which combined our respective strengths to build a new global mobile ecosystem, has created incredible results: award-winning phones and amazing services that have made Nokia Windows Phones the fastest-growing smartphones in the world.
Building on this successful partnership, we announced some important news today: an agreement for Microsoft to purchase Nokia’s Devices & Services business, to deliver more choices, faster innovation, and even more exciting devices and services to our customers.
Today’s agreement will accelerate the momentum of Nokia’s devices and services, bringing the world’s most innovative smartphones to more people, while continuing to connect the next billion people with Nokia’s mobile phone portfolio.
With the commitment and resources of Microsoft to take Nokia’s devices and services forward, we can now realize the full potential of the Windows ecosystem, providing the most compelling experiences for people at home, at work and everywhere in between.
We will continue to build the mobile phones you’ve come to love, while investing in the future – new phones and services that combine the best of Microsoft and the best of Nokia.
Nokia and Microsoft are committed to the next chapter.
Together, we will redefine the boundaries of mobility.
    Steve & Stephen
(The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2014, subject to approval by Nokia shareholders, regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. I understood completely about Symbian and the direction it was heading in but the camera and hardware were too good to ignore. The 808 is a great great product and I am very happy with my decision.
When its time to upgrade one thing is for certain, I will not be buying a windows phone as Windows 7 smartphone users can attest, the overall support (hardware and software) is just not there now with 'legacy' products.
Going forward, I will continue to get support from the lots of Symbian web sites out there as obviously Nokia (Microsoft) are done with Symbian that's clearly obvious. Do us all a favour and release the symbian code so  it can be managed as open source instead
Trying to encourage symbian developers to change platforms by shutting off the store infrastructure prematurely is nothing more than an attempt to force them to switch to the Windows platform. However, lets hope that they don't switch to Androd or apple instead!
Nokia and Microsoft - Best of luck with this plan (Your going to need it!)
    Regards
    Mike

  • Anyone using Nokia =vr20 and VoIP successfully?

    Coz I'm not!
If I try and connect to my configured WiFi AP using the Internet Tel app (and Connect to service) it says "Connecting to default via MyWifi" followed almost immediately by "Unable to connect to the connection network".
If I go to a contact and select Options, Internet Call (as an alternative way of connecting) "Requesting Registration" followed by a message "Phone not registered with blah blah... Register now?" followed by "Registering to service" and a nice "Unable to Register to service" message.
Both ways of connecting return very quickly and the WiFi symbol comes up only BRIEFLY (but does come up).
However, and this is where it gets really interesting, if I first make a connection to MyWifi (say by using the front screen wifi app, opening a browser and then backgrounding the browser) both methods work fine. So it's definitely not my SIP settings but something to do with usuage of the WiFi connection.
Any help *GREATLY* appreciated since I've tried everything and have done loads of Googling but to no avail. It all worked fine in v12. Since 20 onwards I've had to go through the hassle of bringing the WiFi connection up first before making VoIP calls (as a workaround) but as you can imagine it's very tedious!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My access point uses my own DNS server. I'm not using DHCP but I don't have a problem with the Access Point. Or in fact the SIP (since if I bring the connection up first via a browser it works fine). It just seems to be the combination of bringing up the WiFi connection when trying to register the SIP that it fails. The WiFi connectivity icon flashes up briefly but you almost immediately get an error.
There is no port forwarding on the firewall although I can't see how this would help since this would only be incoming traffic (I assume you mean DNAT here). There are no restrictions on outbound traffic and also I don't use NAT since I can use a public address for my access point configuration (lucky me).
I guess I'll just have to wait till Nokia fix it. Boo.

  • Nokia E7 and VOIP

    Hi all,
I have just registered on this forum and I am thinking about purchasing this phone, but I have a question.
How well does the E7 work with Skype now? Is it possible to use voicechat now over both 3G and Wlan?
Also, is SIP supported on this phone?
    Many thanks for any info!

Skype works fine over both 3G and wifi (for voice calls only) and it has SIP support

  • Nokia X6 voip support

Hi guys, does anyone know if Nokia X6 can support voip or sip? I have searched in forum and Google but to no avail. Its not clear whether it can support voip. I am looking to buy X6. If it doesn't have voip, I might have to go for Nokia E71 which can support voip. Can anyone confirm whether X6 has voip?
    Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I heard with fring there is a long lag as the traffic is diverted through their server before your voip provider. It doesn't directly connect to your voip provider and it might not use the desired voice codec. There is sip voip setting available for download for S60 v 5.x which is what Nokia X6 using.
