  • Problem restoring backup.arc file

    Hi all!
i've just reinstalled the latest firmware for my e65 and i can't get my phone to use the backup file (backup.arc) done before the operation.
it just says "now the phone will be rebooted" and, after the reboot) nothing happens. it hasn't restored nor my contacts or applications nor my settings
    what could i do? help!

The problem seems to be changing my iCloud address. I went back to my old iCloud address and tried importing the abbu backup file.  That didn't work but I was able to restore the Address Book from Time Machine and all is back to normal.
I'm thinking removing contacts, calendar, etc. from iCloud sync, then changing my iCloud address, then reinstating iCloud sync might work. But I don't think I'm going to mess with iCloud for awhile.

  • How to Restore Backup *.arc files on nokia 5800?

I have backed up my 5800 data to my memory card E:Backup and there are below files in Backup
    Bookmark.arc
    Calendar.arc
    Contacts.arc
    Messages.arc
    Settings.arc
    UserFiles.arc
but how to restore the backup to my mobile?
or atleast how do i view the content of the important file like contacts.arc? ( unless with nokisoft)
or Can any one help me to convert the Contact.arc to Contact.txt or  cvs or xls?

After a deeper search on the same forums found the solution.
Go to Menu-->Applications --> File Manager
    Click on Backup.
    Then Options->Restore
Select everything! (again you have the time and date of the backup)
    Then click "OK"
    That's it.
Note : Before you start this process..take the backup of Backup hidden folder present in SD card on to your PC.

  • N73 Backup.arc

    Hi
I went to a Nokia Service centre with a faulty speaker problem, and the phone was then backed up by one of the support staff. I requested this person to backup the phone on the PC, and then copy the backup to the memory card on the phone.
This person said it wasn't required, and that it can be done using the phone software.
He proceeded to take my phone and initiate this. Once the phone said "Backup Successfull" or completed, can't remember, I handed it in to the repair centre as per his instruction.
I received the phone back the next day, and on assembling the phone, (Battery, memory card, sim, cover) I tried to do a "Restore from card", which then started and two seconds later said the phone will be restarted. OK.
The backup was not restored, there is no info on the phone. The camera would not work either.
The backup.arc is the only backup I now have to restore the data.
The camera did not work, so I returned and requested them to see what the problem was. They then told me the phone had liquid damage, which I don't understand how that could have happened, as the phone hadn't been anywhere near liquid.
Not that this is my problem, but I'm not happy about it either way; I need the backup.arc information.
    I cannot restore the information.
The phone was upgraded to 4.0839.42.0.1, which seems to be where the problem originates. I have two identical phones that had speaker problems, and both were repaired, and the software upgraded. Neither can restore the backup. Even a new backup with this firmware does not restore.
So my conclustion is that there is a problem with the firmware.
I need to recover the contents of the backup, and I know there is a third party app that can read the contents of the backup.arc file, but I don't see that I need to purchase someone else's software to read the contents of a file created by Nokia software. A Nokia agent backed up the contents, and not as I requested, which would not have caused this problem.
So Nokia, what are you going to do to help me recover the contents of this backup.arc?
I spoke to people at the service centre, and they cannot help me. They referred me to Nokia for assistance, and they suggested I try a couple apps from the internet. I have tried what I could find, but still cannot get my contents restored.
I will even provide the backup.arc file if you will recover my data for me. An email address to send it to @Nokia.com.
I just need to get all my info back (sms, contacts, MMS, calendar, etc...)
    Can you do this?

You're right, the .arc backup file is model-dependent and you cannot restore it on the 5800XM.
Your only options are indeed the two you thought of.

In order to win on this basis, you'd have to establish two things:
    (1) That Nokia is failing to provide something that all or a significant proportion of companies producing similar devices (e.g. Apple, Sony Ericsson, RIM, Samsung, HTC, et al) do provide.
    (2) That a significant number of the 400-500 million people who buy Nokia phones each year (that figure being a guestimate based loosely on Nokia's 2008 Q4 figures of 113.1 million units sold and 2008 Q3 figures of 117.3 million units sold) are adversely affected by this alleged issue.

  • Backup.arc

    Hey, everybody!
I have made a backup copy of the N95 phone memory to the memory card and after that updated the phone software using the latest NSU and the latest PC Suite 6.85. After that I have tried to restore the Backup.arc to the phone and all the info was restored except of the contacts info (I have tried 4 times on my phone and several other Nokia phones N73, 6110, 5700) . So I wonder if somebody had the same problem or maybe even has a solution for it? I know that there is an .nbu Nokia_Contacts_Transfer application that miksu (Great guru!!! Respect!) has advised but in this case it doesn't work. Backup.arc is a phone-made backup copy and I think we need a converter that will make it a compatible .nbu file or maybe some other application that will allow us to transfer contacts from this .arc file to the phone in the PC. Anyways, if somebody has any ideas, please share! Peace!

Try deleting all the contacts from the phone before trying restoration from Backup.arc. It's just a guess, so it's up to you...

  • Recovery using backup control file

    Hello friends,
I have a scenario where i am unable to recover by database by using backup control file option can u pls give ur expert advice.
    1) Database is working in ARCHIVE MODE.
    2) One of my file was READ ONLY when i take my closed backup. At this time
    v$log file output is :
    group# thread# sequence# bytes member arc status first_change#
    1 1 8 8192 2 yes inactive 4697463
    2 1 9 8192 2 yes active 4717493
    3 1 10 8192 2 no current 4717738
    3) After 2-3 log switches i have made it READ WRITE.
    4) After making it READ WRITE i have taken controlfile backup by using
ALTER SYSTEM BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO 'E:\ORACLE\CONTROL01.CTL';.
    5) Again i have make some log switches.
    6) Shutdown my database using SHUTDOWN option.
    7) Copy my SYSTEM,UNDO,USER,INDEX datafiles from my backup (taken at
step 2) and CONTROL file (taken at step 4).
    8) I have not copied my old redo log files so those are new.
    9) I mount database & then use this command to recover database :
    RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE AUTO;
    10) My recovery process starts applying archived log files and applied upto
sequence no 9. When it starts applying last one 10 which is online redo log
and not yet archived my recovery process fails by giving this error:
ORA-00308: cannot open archived log 'd:\oracle\oradata\practice\archive\1_10.dbf'
    ORA-27041: unable to open file
    OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.
    11) I try to open database using :
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
    it gives following warning:
    Error at line 1:
ORA-01113: file 1 needs media recovery
    ORA-01110: datafile 1: 'D:\ORACLE\ORADATA\PRACTICE\SYSTEM01.DBF'
Please guide me why it is so ?
Whether in BACKUP CONTROL FILE CASES system didn't recognise ONLINE REDO LOG FILES or it is anything else.
    Regards
    Sethi

    Hi,
    >>I am not using RMAN. I am taking user managed backups. Moreover i have tried what u said that make checkpoints also but again i came to the same result when it try to apply last archived log which was current redo log when database was started to shutdown it says unable to find the specified file & then when i open database using resetlogs it says system file needs media recovery.
it show error because you are using wrong approach of Recovery.
Alter database open Resetlog command is used only in incomplete recovery.
    but your are giving
Recover database command,it means ur performing full recovery (means you have apply online redo logfile.) and after applying it you should open the database with Alter database Open command.
No need to give resetlog option.
    Again Restore all backup;
    Issue Recover database;
    and open the database with
    Alter database open;
    Thanks

  • E72 deleting backup.arc which is write protected

    Hi,
I have an E72 where i backed up phone memory onto memory card. It is saved as backup.arc and can be seen when in PC suite, but now I cannot delete this because it says it is 'write-protected'............................... The size is 175mb, which is alarming.
I am unable do any 'slider thingy' because it is a micro sd card with no adapter. Seriously, it is very very plain!
I do not want to reformat it because i do not want to lose any Ovi maps and frankly, E72 has a LOT of software problems, I do not want to risk it (i set up a ringtone which also caused the inability to ever change it.... unless I saved a song as something...transfered it elsewhere...save it again etc etc, point is I am aware how nasty it gets, so, no formatting advice unless you guarantee there'll be no errors!)
    Thanks for reading this through.
    Raima

I did not find any backup.arc when I opened it up as mass storage.
When I use it as Media transfer I do find it.  When I right click.--> properties, the 'write only' part is greyed out...so no amount of clicking will unclick it.
Can you tell me if I save the necessary files somewhere in my PC, (ie: save everything except this backup.arc in a new folder in my computer) and format the memory card (something I previously was reluctant to do) will that get rid of it? Or will it stay stuck///cause errors?
PS: how will I format the memory card anyway?
    Thanks for your previous reply

  • Hi, I am using my icloud on my iphone but am unable to find it on my mac book pro. It's not under my system preferences like it shows under the setup. Can I download it again? Or something. I just need to backup some files on my computer and am unable.

Hi, I am using my icloud on my iphone but am unable to find it on my mac book pro. It's not under my system preferences like it shows under the setup. Can I download it again? Or something. I just need to backup some files on my computer and am unable.

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is now non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Cannot backup my files / copy my files and folders due to error message " The operation can't be completed because an item with the name ".DS_Store" already exists. "

    Hi Apple community!
I have a [rather worrying] problem.
When I try to copy all my files from my documents on my mac [or the entire documents folder] into an external drive, I get this error message
" The operation can’t be completed because an item with the name “.DS_Store” already exists. "
I am not given an option to skip this file or anything else.
But I simply cannot complete the operation!
I have tried deleting a few of the .ds_store files, [both in the original and in the destinations]
    but no success.
    The same thing keeps happening.
At first, this was just happening when I was trying to backup to my dropbox folder [the one on my mac's harddrive, which gets synced to the cloud],
but then I tried to back up my documents to my external hard drive, and I realized it is giving me the same error message.
So effectively, it seems I cannot backup my files anywhere!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

You can't have received an error message "Disk Utility can't repair this disk...disk, and restore your backuped-up file." since that is pure gobbledegook and isn't even good English.
What may have happened is that
    (a) your hard drive has become so full that the operating system can't find any space in which to.... operate.
    (b) as macjack says, it has crashed - possibly as a result of (a).
    (c) you have been allowing Time Machine to back up to your internal hard drive instead of to a backup disk, which has caused (a) to happen.

  • My iMac crashed, how to backup my files from a dead drive

Hi, I need to backup my files, I haven't made any backup before, not even a time machine. I started up using the CD that came with it but DU isn't able to repair my disk. I know I made a mistake by not making any backup before but please help if you have any clue on how to retrieve my files. Thanks.

The DiskWarrior DVD has an OS X System Folder on so it will boot most Macs (I believe there are some exceptions, so it's worth checking out the Alsoft site for info). Put the DW disk in the drive and boot up holding down the C key.
