Nokia C7 post hard reset theme problem

Hi,
Yesterday I hard reseted my C7-00 running Symbian^3 due to error in Notifications widget. First I performed the soft reset. After the phone booted up, the background suddenly changed to black. I tried replacing the wallpaper, but failed. The background was like a gradient and was moving according to the accelerometer. Then I did a hard reset of the phone. Now, the theme Nokia theme black works fine. When I try changing to the Nokia theme dark or nokia theme brown, the same strange background shows up. The background is seen even in the menu. I don't have any idea. Please help.

Hi. I think i know the answer. No need to reinstall the firmware. The theme you mentioned that's the problem-if you call it that way. Your home screen background is set to default and the weird background you just described is the default one.
You can use the dark theme with background setting set to image.allowing you to choose the image you like.
To do so: Tap on Options at home screen and choose Change wallpaper - Image.
Thanks. I hope your problem is solved and no reset or firmware reinstall is needed.

  • Restoring post hard reset??

    Help!
I decided to perform a hard reset after a lot of problems with my palm. Prior to doing this however, I performed a sync to back up the data, thinking that I could just reconnect the palm 750 to my computer and it would recognise it, and reload the data back on. However, now my computer does not recognise the palm 750 during active sync.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

  • 9630 Keyboard/Buttons not working; hard resets and multiple reloads of OS did not correct

My BlackBerry 9630 Tour is a little more than a year old. Yesterday the keyboard, trackball, and all buttons stopped working while I was typing out an email. I could not power off the Blackberry without removing the battery for a hard reset. Unfortunately, even after many hard resets, the problem persisted, so I went to the forums for help and tried everything that seemed relevant (multiple times) with no success.
After reviewing a number of tech support posts, this problem does not appear to be unique to any given model of BB and contact with liquids is cited as a common but not the only cause for this condition.
I was outside on a very hot and humid day when the malfunction occurred so it is possible some perspiration may have come into contact with the keypad, convenience buttons, or trackball and caused the lockup.
I'm looking for someone with more smarts than me to help me troubleshoot, identify the actual problem, and identify the proper corrective actions. See below for a synopsis of my actions taken, with the exception of taking it to the shop for repair/replacement.
The corrective actions listed on the forums and blogs are varied but essentially fall into two primary solutions:
    1. If moisture is suspected to be the issue, let the BB dry out overnight
        a. Pull the battery, naturally air dry or use a blow dryer, let it sit unplugged with no battery for at least 12 hours
        b. If this doesn't immediately work, try a clean install of the OS (see below)
        c. If this doesn't work, take to the shop and they'll either replace the keyboard and/or trackball or replace entire unit
    2. If moisture is not suspected to be a factor then perform a backup followed by a clean install of OS
         a. Backup your files using Desktop Manager Backup and Restore
         b. Do a clean reinstall OS using Desktop Manager Application Loader
             i. The OS installation process is dicey  and takes a little patience and focus-- you have to wait for the Desktop Manager to properly recognize the device before it can proceed on some of the steps and it may take several iterations to get completely through the process and get the "successful installation" message.
ii. Further, you may need to keep the battery removed during the initial steps in the process and only insert it when the process gets to the point of actually trying to copy files into the BB memory
                * The BB LCD will display an icon that looks like a battery with a slash through it letting you know the process cannot proceed until a battery is inserted and the Desktop Manager Application Loader will also give you an error indicating it cannot find the device.
                * After inserting the battery, it will take a few seconds or more for the computer to recognize the USB device and for Desktop Manager to respond with the BB password pop-up window.
                * After typing in your BB password, the installation should continue.
        c. If you can get the OS successfully reloaded and your keyboard/trackball/buttons work -- great -- now restore your files and settings using Desktop Manager Backup and Restore and get on with your life.
        d. If this does NOT work after multiple successful clean OS installations apparently you are completely hosed; the only other option is to get it to the shop for repair or replacement.
1.. Does anyone have a troubleshooting procedures that will identify whether moisture is the root cause or not?
    2. Is there another corrective procedure that's been missed?

Took  BB to Sprint Store and technician took it apart, saw no evidence of moisture or any other damage, and concluded that the keyboard had failed. Not an uncommon occurance.
Also, he told me you cannot simply replace the keyboard, it is integral to the systemboard, so you need to replace the entire device.
He did commend the troubleshooting approach used prior to going to the store -- most folks won't take the time to do even basic troubleshooting (like taking out the battery), they just go to the store and say "fix it please". He confirmed that the steps outlined in the initial post were correct and did not have any other solutions.
    Take away:
If you want to do some troubleshooting yourself to check for moisture, the process was pretty straightforward. After watching the technician, most folks with a little technical or mechanical aptitude should be able to manage the dismantling process. You just need a small phillips head screwdriver and a little patience. Good lighting and a magnifying glass or reading glasses also help!

  • Nokia N8 maps problems after hard reset.

I quote the sticky with the same title
    quote
There have been some cases where users have used the 3-fingered hard-reset method on their N8 devices and lost Ovi Maps in the process. It is not yet possible for N8 users to redownload the application from nokia.com/maps, a situation that will be fixed in the near future with a new release of the Maps application.
In the meantime, if you find yourself in this situation, please contact the Nokia Care line for your country, copies of the necessary SIS installation file have been distributed to contact centres to pass on to N8 users until the Maps web page is updated.
Please note that it is not wise in general to use the 'three-fingered suicide' as a method of troubleshooting issues with your phone, this procedure is intended to attempt to revive a device that will not boot, in which circumstances you already know that everything is going to be lost before starting.
    unquote
So I went to the local Nokia care line center nearby.  The technician told me in order to re install Ovi Maps on the phone I had to leave it for a few days under repair.   When I mentioned that it was purely software installation (and I only needed the SIS file) and not a technical repair and I could not leave my phone behind for several days the manager mentioned this was Nokia policy.  Obtaining the SIS file was not possible.
The manager himself mentioned "that is why I use an Iphone" and me as unpleased customer left this Nokia "we do not" care line center.
So be aware the if you want to have the ovi maps app reinstalled on the phone, it could well take a few days.
    Nomic.

Perhaps if you go over to Nokia Beta Labs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-306
and ask nicely in the correct thread, you might find that kee takes pity on you. However since release of .sis file to Nokia Care Points whom can't be bothered with N8 woes as they consider carrying out a "hard reset" an own goal, they (Nokia Beta Labs) might now expect resolution via this method.

  • A DIFFERENT problem with Maps after Hard Reset

Was advised to hard reset my phone after it started going crazy with data which I did using the advised *#7something# method.
Nokia Maps is fortunately still there upon reset. Phew. Although when I open it it starts downloading mad amounts of data.
All my maps are gone. it appears my mass memory got kind of messed up in the reset - it deleted a lot of the data off the mass memory, but left some of it. Example - my music files all went, but the directory structure remained. My photos remained, but Nokia doesn't know when they were taken.
I have tried connecting my phone to my PC and opening maps in Ovi Suite ... and it says 'cannot find maps or voice guidance files in your device', and I appear to have no option to re add them.
There is an 'open help' link below the message ... which opens a blank help page in my browser. Useful.
    Can anyone help?

This has occurred the entire time I have owned the iPod. I only discovered iLyrics about 2 months ago. I don't believe iLyrics is to blame.
In general, the lyrics are in English and do not have special characters. This is a good suggestion though. I'm going to pay close attention to see if I can find any weird HTML bits showing up. It seems to occur about 70% of the time. I've assumed that it is completely random, so I'm going to pay closer attention to see if some songs work 100% of the time. Interestingly, it never goes wrong 100% of the time either. It sometimes takes 4 or 5 tries, but eventually I'll be able to scroll through the entire song.
I'm getting the impression that this is NOT a common problem....

  • I cannot turn it on!!!n97.(problem with hard reset...

hi guys..this is my **bleep** prob..i had a n97..the problem is it wont start at all...ive tried the hard reset but it wont work as it could be..ive tried a million times to hard reset but it still cannot..the phone only stuck at the Nokia..then it stuck there forever until i get this problem solved..is they anyone that has any ideas about this thing..??

Erm.. I'm not quite with you johnjoel. From what I understand, the problem isn't sorted at all??
First, What was the inital problem, and when did it occure? - Did you install anything on it before it happened? Did you upgrade the fw?
Anyway, your phone's stuck on the boot screen. Usually there's nothing more to do other than take it to a Nokia care point as mccoy did, if the hard reset fails.
But do you have a memory card installed? If yes; pull it out and try another hard reset. if it works, you will most likely have to format the memorycard.
If you don't have a memorycard installed or the trick doesn't work; leave the memorycard outside the phone and pull out the sim-card too. Try another hard reset. - If the phone boots without it, but fails to boot with it, even when you've just performed a successfully hard reset, I would try another simcard if you have one spare. - If the phone does not work with that simcar either, you will have to take it to a Nokia care point.
If i did misunderstand you, and you have sorted it out, let me know by posting here, and I will remove this.
If youre not sure if you do the hard reset correctly; let me know.
    Cheers.

  • Nokia 6133 hard reset?

I have a Nokia 6133 and I am unable to get past the white loading screen because I have too many text messages (over 6000 in the phone). I am 100% sure this is the problem. I need to do a hard reset on the phone or I will end up having to throw it away (since the local repair center wants $50 just to flash it which is what the phone is worth) which would be a shame because it works fine otherwise. I've tried the three-button-reset I've seen floating around (hold *, green call button, and 3 at the same time while turning the phone on), and I've also tried the *#7780# and *#7370# codes but they didn't work. Any advice?

It's probably still worth taking it to the NCP and paying the $50 to have the phone re-flashed. Don't think of the value of the phone, think of what you'd have to pay to replace it. That would certainly be more than 50 bucks.
The 6133 is a great phone otherwise. You just have to be careful with its memory resources, and 6000 messages is a lot of messages in anyone's books. There are rarely more than 50-60 in mine at any given time.

  • Hard resetting a nokia 1020, some questions, mainl...

    Hi,
im having problems with my Nokia 1020, it hasn't got space, i remove apps and games and in one or two days the problem arises again, i don't know if i have two much photos and/or if it is a problem with bad-behaved apps with banners.
Anyway, i want to hardreset it.
    I've already read:
    http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/settings-and-personalization/reset-my-phone
    and:
    http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/settings-and-personalization/back-up-my-stuff
It seems pretty stray forward... but i would like to ask if i create a backup, during restore i have the option to carefully select what is restored?
Is the main interface backed up, with all the links?
Questions about 1020 photos and onedrive:
    - how do the photo files work on 1020? Does my onedrive account have both the 34 and the 5 mb version?
(- if i want to create a 5mb version of a 34mb, has the phone software the ability to do that?)
    - does onedrive account has all the files that my 1020 has? Because my 1020 has 17gb of photos, and my onedrive\images folder has 5gb...
    - admiting that it has a full backup of photos, can i delete them on the phone without deleting them from onedrive.com / my PC's onedrive folder?
    - is there a simple way to compare photos over the phone and on PC or onedrive.com?
I ask this because in my computer (and online) i have organized then with folders, and videos that exist appear near them, but in my phone i can only see the photos organized by date - so it seems difficult to confirm that they are both equal.
    Thanks and regards

    Hi @Lrmmf_ ,
If in your shoes I would secure a backup through USB to a PC before proceeding - not to the OneDrive folder on the PC - but somewhere else on the hard drive for safe keeping. There are too many variables regarding the settings on the phone used while taking the pictures and recording videos. Altering the settings regarding backup resolution only works for pictures and videos recorded after altering the setting. Clearly not everything is backed up to OneDrive when you have 12GB more on the phone than in the cloud, most likely the full resolution images are missing.
The restore after a factory reset does not restore pictures and videos to the phone. Those already uploaded are safe in the cloud and can be accessed via the OneDrive app on the phone. Lumia Black required a lot of work after a restore and i.e. games progress were not backed up. This has changed with Lumia Cyan, but there will still be some manual work after a factory reset and restore.
I suggest spend a rainy day to first backup all media files to the PC, then still via USB delete the big resolution files and media files not needed on the phone. Then think again if the hard reset is needed at all? - There is now a Files manager by Microsoft in the store for Windows Phone, it is just easier to perform these tasks on a PC via USB.
Duplicates are better than missing files! I still have a lot of clean-up waiting to bring my local backups in sync with OneDrive, maybe it will never happen.

  • What is the hard reset key of the Nokia C3-01?

What is the hard reset key of the Nokia C3-01?
When I was trying to update the software of C3-01 using the Nokia Ovi Suite, it said there was an error. Then the phone was shut down and can not turn it on any more.

I have a Mac 10.6.8.  Just installed Airport Express.  I can't see any base stations.  I did a hard reset on the Airport Express, turned off all devices,  turned them back on.   I see plenty of Airport networks in the neighborhood.  How can I tell if I have a Mac problem or an Airport Express problem?  Airport Express blinks Amber.

Obviously,  I'm still using ethernet to be able to reply to this.
Alright, use the same ethernet cable to plug directly into the airport express. This will FORCE the airport utility to now see it regardless of weak signals & interference. You can set it up that way.
BTW, what is the original intent on the express?

  • Problems after hard reset

OK, did not get my phone booting up, and I need my phone (especially the next days) so I did a "hard reset". Programs on E: drive was not uninstalled. But all on the C: drive. Maps installed OK. And everything seems to work except 3 things: 1) Nokia Store will not install (says "Cannot install!"). Tried installing the "notification support package" that fix store the time Nokia messed up (release an update to early). But that refuses to install as well. Anyone know why these will not install? What do they need that is not there? 2) "Social" install wrong. Didn't get one "Social" app i the list, but one for "Facebook" and one for "Twitter" and a bunch of widgets (that looked ok). But nothing is working, and I can't get to the settings (in the version I had before they were in the "Social" icon I do not have now....) 3) The Office apps are gone. Both "Quick Office" and the PDF-viewer. And that's a crisis!!! So do I have to wait till I get an answer from Nokia and have the reflash my phone again? Or is there anything I can to to fix these three problems (there's gotta be someone out there that knows what the problems are - you are so clever - can imaging no one has a solution :-) Well well... The phone is working again at least for now :-) Until next hang or till Nokia re-flashes it (hope they can re-flash it with Anna then, so I can get rid of this Belle trouble :-)
    Lars-Erik Østerud - http://www.osterud.name/nokia.html

WoW !!! You seem to have had a terrible time ? Usually when I do a hard reset and then a software update it all goes really smoothly, and the update works fine, which is what happened with Belle, and the whole thing is working smoothly and is very customisable !! Maybe you should try to re-install from Nokia Suite ?

  • N8 Maps problem after hard reset

There have been some cases where users have used the 3-fingered hard-reset method on their N8 devices and lost Ovi Maps in the process. If you find yourself in this situation, you can now resintall Maps via the software update feature in Ovi Suite. For other apps, you may need to refer to your nearest Nokia Care point.
Please note that it is not wise in general to use the 'three-fingered suicide' as a method of troubleshooting issues with your phone, this procedure is intended to attempt to revive a device that will not boot, in which circumstances you already know that everything is going to be lost before starting.
If this or any post answers your question, please remember to help others by pressing the 'Accept as solution' button.

The following is an official statement from Nokia concerning this matter:
    You
should not use the "three finger" reset (pressing volume down + camera key +
menu key and pressing power button) to hard reset the Nokia N8-00 device. Doing
this will delete some applications (Ovi Store, Ovi Maps, some preinstalled
    widgets) which cannot be restored.
If the device needs to be reset, try the following methods
instead of the "three finger" reset:
Press down the power button for 8
    seconds.
Restore the factory settings by selecting Menu
    > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings >
    Restore.
The "three finger" reset should be used only
as a last resort if the device cannot be booted up in any other way.
    If
successful, the device can be used after the reset but some of the applications
are missing. The device needs to be taken to a Nokia Care point for reflashing
to get the original applications back in the
    device.

Without really knowing the extent of the problems you are having it is hard to say.
You can visit http://kb.palm.com solution id 2630 for the Hotsync troubleshooter guide.
If that doesn't resolve your issue, I am going to need to know what problems you are having, what errors you are getting and what exactly occurs when you attempt a hotsync.
