Nokia Camera problem

so nokia camera for some reason is closing on my 930 when I use the camera button or the screen when i try to take a picture and returns to the start screen.
it isn't a hardware problem as the other camera app still works fine. anyone else had this? have I accidently done something stupid? any fixes?

Thanks for posting your concern, JacknifeUK. When did it start to happen? Did you notice any strange behavior prior to this issue? Have you already tried uninstalling and re-installing the Nokia Camera app? BTW, did you set the said app as a default camera? To check this, go to Settings > swipe to Applications > Photos+camera. Are you also having the same issue when you change it to Microsoft Camera?
We'll wait for your response.

  • Problem with Nokia Camera and Smart Sequence

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with Nokia Camera and the Smart Sequence mode.
Basically, if you take a picture using nokia camera, and view it in your camera roll, it usually says, underneath the pic "open in nokia camera".
Well, if I take a pic using the Smart Sequence mode, it just doesn't say "open in nokia camera" so, to use the functions of smart sequence (best shot, motion focus, etc), I have to open nokia camera, go to settings and tap the "Find photos and videos shot with nokia camera" option.
Does anyone has the same problem? Anybody solved it?
I already tried reinstalling nokia camera, but that didn't help.
I'm running Nokia Black on my 925.
    Thanks everyone!

    Hi,
I had the same problem with my 1020. It did get fixed with the last update to Nokia camera.
However, IIRC, it didn't just happen right away. When browsing the camera roll I'm pretty sure that the "open with Nokia camera" text wasn't there.
Slightly disappointed I opened the (Nokia) camera anyway and was going to test the smart sequence again. I noticed the only precious pic I'd taken using this actually appeared top left of the screen.
I opened it and I had all the smart sequence editing options again - that we're missing previous. Made a new picture and saved it.
Now when in camera roll the text shows below the image and all is good.
This probably doesn't help much except that it didn't seem to fix automatically.
I work @Nokia so I can ask around a bit to see if this is a known / common issue (not that I know any developers)

  • What property of the 'Nokia Camera' "highres" (hig...

    Hello,
I use Nokia Lumia 1020, and I'm wondering exactly what property of 'Nokia Camera' "highres" (high resolution) photos make them hidden from 'Camera Roll' and 'Photos'!
As you know, each photo is saved as a 'low resolution' (5MP) and a 'high resolution' (with suffix 'highres') (34MP or 38MP) copies.
And only the low resolution copy is shown in 'Camera Roll' and 'Photos' apps. The highres copy is hidden. In fact, as soon as the low resolution copy is deleted, the photo disappears from 'Camera Roll' and 'Photos' even though the highres copy is still intact.
I transferred the highres copy into my Nokia 808 PureView and did a 100% resize (i.e. no change in size/resolution) using the Gallery editing, and I put this new picture (exact same resolution and dpi) back into my Nokia Lumia 1020, and now it appears in 'Camera Roll' and 'Photos' even though it is still 'high resolution'!
In another experiment, I took pictures using the "ProShot" app and deleted the low resolution copy. And the high resolution copy was capable of appearing in 'Camera Roll' and 'Photos'!
Also the highres copies of pictures do not generate thumbnail preview in the desktop when I connect my Nokia Lumia 1020 to my desktop and browse the camera roll folder; i.e. you can only see the low resolution copies in the thumbnails. However, the high resolution photos from ProShot are perfectly fine and generate thumbnail views.
So basically, all these observations indicate that the "Nokia Camera" app does something to the highres photos that make them hidden in the 'Camera Roll' and 'Photos' and also cause them to not generate thumbnail views during desktop browsing.
I compared all the image properties of the highres photos (taken by Nokia Camera) before and after passing them through Nokia 808 PureView hoping that I could discover the property that was the culprit for this behavior. However, to my surprise, all properties were identical! And the file name and file size were not the culprit either.
So I'm hoping that someone here can shed some light on this weird issue.
(The reason this is important for me is that I want to save space on my Lumia 1020 by deleting the low resolution copies. One approach can be using ProShot and keep only the high resolution copies. However, currently ProShot (or any other camera app) cannot be started by the camera button due to API issues. So I'm stuck with the 'Nokia Camera' app. Another approach which I have been doing till now is to pass all the highres photos through my 808 PureView and then put them back into Lumia 1020 (and then I delete the original low and high resolution copies). However, this approach is cumbersome especially when I take lots of pictures. So, I'm hoping that by modifying some property of the highres pictures, I can easily make them behave normally like other high resolution pictures.)
Thanks a lot for any input.
    P.S.
The high resolution copies from ProShot and from passing through 808 PureView are perfectly shareable, editable, MMSable, and uploadable, so there is really no need for the low resolution copies. This makes me wonder why this dual copy saving method was devised in the first place! The argument is that Windows Phone doesn't have a dedicated ISP for the camera (like Symbian 808 PureView) and that the central processor alone is not powerful enough to handle high resolution photos. However, I have been able to do everything with the 34MP or 38MP pictures on my Lumia 1020, and I always delete the low resolution copies.

The 808 has a dedicated processor which allows the Pureview images to be shown within the OS. The 1020 lacks this processor and the Pureview images are taken and stored/edited outside the OS control which is why they are not visable. Once you do the processing you do I am guessing the new highres images (while visable in the OS) will no longer have the properties the original pureview images have and you can't do non-destructive edits anymore like you can with the originals.

Please one again Nokia, I NEED THE NEW REPLACEMENT..

    @Rafi808
Have you installed any third party applications to account for the sound of the continuous auto focus (CAF) mechanism?
You probably need to visit Nokia Care facility so that device can be reset to "factory settings" and completely re-install device software, before pointing towards hardware issue with camera module itself.

  • Serious camera problems with the Lumia 800

Hello everyone, I just want to share my experience with you.
I've been using an unlocked Lumia 800 for a week now and I actually like the phone, however these camera problems are just unacceptable.
The camera has SERIOUS white balance problems, and, for me the most important, the auto-focus is just ridiculous. It works bad, but focusing on "macro" objects is just a no go, even usin the touch focus or the "macro" focus mode. Another problem is the lens flare, which reflects how bad these optics might be. You really think that the Carl Zeiss branded optics anything here? Think again. My HTC Incredible S, with its "OEM" optics, (or the Iphone 4S or the SII) just humiliates this camera. Also, is that so hard to make a green square focus confirmarion?
How can they release a flagship device, with this price range, with these problems? No wonder why Nokia is where it is standing now, "almost" in a closing-doors status. They really need better engineers and programmers because everytime they let this happen with a device, they're tossing away their valuable customers. And they really deserve it.
And as I've been reading, the Lumia 900 is having the same problems... How sad is this?
    Regards,
    RR
    Moderator's note; removed personal remarks

No, the camera is not that bad, it is actually decent in lowlight conditions @ISO100 (it automatically raises a bit, but it avoids the 800, unlike the auto-mode), with a good balance between noise and detail. However, In my opinion, that's the whole purpose in camera phones - point and shoot. If I could only take good photos if I find the perfect combination of settings for each situation, the versatility of camera phones would be zero. And of course, if I want "perfect" photos, I'll use my DSLR, but that's not an excuse for this camera, which performs worse that my previous E72.
And understand light and ff course this camera can take amazing photos, as those in flickr, but all cameras can do that. Some do need lots of effort and tries, some not. Even my old Sony Ericsson C902, which was **bleep**, could sometimes take some nice pics.
I'm not complaining about the full set of caracteristics, but about the details that ruin the whole.
    - Lack of self-time;
    - Metering is also inaccurate. Lots of clipped highlights;
    - White balance is a mess with flash and indoors (incandescent or fluorescent lights);
    - Lateral lens flare, which is bad and I'll upload an example soon.
    - I believe the whole auto-focus is a bit inaccurate, but I can only really notice it in macro captures. This really incapacitates me of taking detailed document photos, which I usually do.
Overall, I'm really enjoying the phone experience, but the camera fails to impress mainly due to the lack of effort by the Nokia Developers to tweak the camera driver properly, which is pitiful.
Here's an example of a screen capture, at 15cm (any other phones I know can sharp-focus at this distance): notice the off-focus/blurred center, the whole image soft-focus, and those stained areas. Weird!

  • 73 Camera problem

If i try to take a photo in broad daylight, say for example taking a picture of the city street at 1pm on a sunny day, everything will be completely white. I'm not sure if this is normal. fluorescent light is ok, night time is ok, but if I take a photo at daytime then all my photos turn up COMPLETELY white. Nothing but white. Even on cloudy days, it turns up almost completely white. I've tries playing with the camera settings, white balancing etc etc... nothing seems to help very much, they are all minor changes to the picture. anybody else having the same problem?

Re the firmware update: that's actually not Nokia's fault.
Basically, after Nokia have done their stuff with a firmware upgrade they release it to the networks for them to apply their branding etc to it. Once that's been done, then the upgrade is made available to customers via Service Centers and the Nokia Software Updater (NSU - part of PC Suite now).
Unfortunately, some networks are really lax at doing their bit - some actually don't to it at all.
So basically, your problem is with the Taiwanese network .. assuming you didn't get the phone SIM-free (ie: not subsidised by a network).
The only thing you could do is pay the Taiwanese network to unlock your phone, which I believe effectively makes it SIM-free so far as NSU is concerned. That would mean you could upgrade to the SIM-free version of the firmware (which is available, I guess) from the comfort of your own home.
Re the camera problem: I take it you've checked the shooting mode is NOT set to candlelight / night landscscape / night portrait and that you've played with all of the various options like white balance, exposure value, brightness and colour saturation etc?
Could be that one of those is out of whackMessage Edited by patc on 29-Mar-200711:26 AM
nice... someone who knows a bit more about what they're talking about than me...
umm yes i've played with all the settings like any owner of a gadget would when experience problems...
as for the phone... is there a way to find out if it's like... sim free or something?... i got the phone ONLY... meaning it came in it's good ol box... no sim cards or anything... i went to taiwan... picked up the phone... left the country... came to australia and got a vodafone sim card here... and now im stuck with a gay old firmware

  • Question about Nokia Camera

If I reinstall the Nokia Camera app, will I still be able to reframe my pictures?

    Changing product code voids warranty.
Don't think that you are the only one with this problem.
I also own a 6151, but with a different product code respect your, but I can't upgrade too :-(
My cell is a generic no brand Italy one.
I don't know exactly why Nokia would update only a few product codes of this beautiful phone via NSU.
Please let us update our phones!!!
If you go to a service center there could be an update also for your branded phone.
If I think that I've bought it only because was compatible with NSU...Message Edited by bugfix on 20-Mar-2007

  • Lumia 1520 - Microsoft Camera vs Nokia Camera

What is the difference?  Burst mode is only in Microsoft camera.  Does Microsoft Camera app take pictures in both 5MP and 16MP?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to be clear, what is the Microsoft Camera app you talk about?
I checked and Nokia Camera is Still Nokia Camera it seems
I am guessing that you refer to the stock Camera app for Windows Phone as 'Microsoft Camera'. This app has no support for Pureview so I would guess it only takes 5MP images. Not sure though but on my 1020 it does..

  • Nokia 820 problems

Just bought two Nokia 820s, one for my wife and one for myself. Awesome phones except for a couple of issues. First, the GPS and Nokia Here Maps. When I am at home the maps show me in the right spot but reports (showing the address) that I am 3 houses down the street. When I am at work, the phone shows my position correctly but reports that I am in the Elementary School across the street. Hmmmm. gMaps does not have this problem and seems to have more detailed maps about my city and roadways. So it is a Nokia software problem? I like the Here functionality better, but the accuracy and detail are missing compared to other map services so I have to keep more than one app on my phone, using precious space. Second, I would really like to be able to sync my phone calendar with my google calendar and tasks. Right now I have to use third party apps so I have more than one calendar app (I prefer to use the one on my phone with live tiles!!!!) and more than one task app, etc... and more than one travel app. Also it would be nice to separate the people I want in my phone book from the people I have on social accounts (I will NEVER be calling most of the people on my facebook account, but there are people I call on a regular basis and I hate scrolling through or having to search a gajillion people to find who or what business I am looking for) and still have them listed, just seperately.
Thanks for listening and I sincerely hope these issues can be addressed.
    chris

Were you running gMaps on the same phone? If so then that would suggest the innacuracy in probably in the mapping data. This being the case, you should report the error to the map data provider using the link below.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
Wait an additional 15 minutes, but DO NOTHING with your device...just let it sit and "settle". Then, after 15 minutes, try only the camera to see of you still get this error. If not, then continue to run normally, but watch closely to see if you can determine how long it takes  before the error appears. It may simply be that you need to reboot regularly to clear up memory leaks and such.
But, if the error immediately presented after the 15 minutes, then I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens. Again, let the device "settle" for at least 15 minutes and DO NOTHING with it.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was. Also, the quantity of 3rd party and/or add-on apps you have installed may simply be too much for your device capacity. You will need to decide what has a higher priority for you...the camera, or some of those added apps.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

    First try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost.

Some devices may need to have their software reset in order to see the latest benefits, or to resolve other potential problems. - Ensure you have the latest version of Nokia PC Suite. - Backup your device memory to your PC using Nokia PC Suite - Copy your files (music, videos, documents, images etc) from the Nokia N91 hard drive to your PC (use of USB mass storage recommended). - Copy any original SISX, Java, etc. installation files for your applications, themes, etc. from your Nokia N91 hard drive or memory card to your PC. (Do not simply copy over the installed directories/files.) - If your device has an internal hard drive, format your Nokia device’s hard drive by selecting Tools > Hard drive > Options > Format hard drive > Quick format (instructions are also in user the guide). - After the device has completely started up again, reset your device memory by selecting Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > General > Orig.
