  • [Forum FAQ] Go to Start Screen/Desktop when closing Windows Store App

After install Windows 8.1 Update 1, you will notice these things set by default even on touchscreen laptops and desktops:
Windows 8.1 now boots directly to the desktop.
Closing Windows Store Apps and go to desktop instead of Start Screen.
Besides option “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” since Windows 8, another new option in Taskbar Properties “Show Windows Store app on taskbar” is used to control closing app behavior.
Features of "Show Windows Store app on taskbar"
When the setting is checked, all of the Windows Store apps that are currently running will display on taskbar. You can easily switch between Windows Store apps and your desktop and its applications through the taskbar. For mouse users,
you can also access the taskbar within a Windows Store app. Just move the mouse cursor to the button of the screen, the taskbar pops up.
    When the setting is unchecked,
Windows Store apps have no minimize button, only Close button
Windows Store apps that are open are not visible on Taskbar
Windows Store apps can still be pinned to the taskbar
How do these two options work for closing app behavior?
    Modern app and Taskbar   setting
    OFF
    ON
    Boot   to desktop setting
    OFF
    Close goes to Start
Close reveals the   app that was previously used, and eventually dead ends at the Desktop
    ON
    Close goes to desktop
Close reveals the   app that was previously used, and eventually dead ends at the Desktop
Know why “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” does not work when “Show Windows Store app on taskbar” is checked on
    As MironV mentioned in the
thread, Windows 8.1 Update is designed to introduce a number of changes for mouse and keyboard users that would help them use and switch between Windows Store apps alongside their familiar desktop applications. A lot of these changes only made sense when
combined together, so they are toggled by one setting, which is “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar.” This is usually enabled together with the first setting as a complimentary set of improvements for desktop users. When the setting is enabled, Windows
Store apps are intended to feel more like regular maximized applications living on the desktop, though they are full screen only. For example, when you launch apps from Start, they appear on the taskbar until they are closed. You can also minimize them or
switch between them by invoking the taskbar.
Please understand that unchecking the “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" setting has no effect on close and minimize behavior when the “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar” setting is checked, since
they are controlling two independent things. If you tend to use only one Windows Store app at a given time, it may seem like we’re not respecting the setting by going to the desktop.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but on my desktop (using mouse and keyboard only) I like to have my Start screen as my main screen.  To ensure this I made sure to uncheck the "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop" box and
check the "Show Start on the display I'm using when I press the Windows Logo key" box. I also really like having the task bar appear at the bottom even when I'm using a modern app.  Based on the settings I've chosen (i.e., boxes I've checked or not checked),
I would expect to be taken back to the start screen and not the desktop whenever I close an app.  From what I've read from your response and from others in this thread, in order to accomplish this function (i.e., closing an app and going directly to the
start screen) I need to uncheck the "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" setting.  By doing this I get the functionality I was looking for when the apps are closed and I get sent to the start screen.  However, I am now not able to see the taskbar
when I'm in a modern app or when I'm on the start screen.  This seems counterintuitive/confusing as many have mentioned.  Not to mention it creates an additional step for users to get back to the Start screen.
All I want to do is (1) use my start screen as my main screen, (2) see the taskbar when running whatever app I'm using (e.g., modern), and (3) go back to my start screen (and not the desktop) when I close an app.  It would only make sense that I should
get these results if I leave the "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" box checked and the "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" box unchecked; but unfortunately this is NOT the case.  I really hope that
an update fixing this is coming sooner rather than later because this is really annoying.

  • Nokia e6 OVI store and email problem

I just bought a Nokia E6, but I have trouble connecting to the store and adding my email. Whenever I try to open the OVI store, it asks for an update. So select download, and it tries to download and install, but when it's almost done installing, it gives me an error, saying that it can't connect to the server and that I should try again later. When I try to open the email to add my gmail account, it says it can't connect to the mail server. The wifi connection is fine and the web browser works okay, but these things are really bugging me, as I now can't download apps from the store or receive e-mail.
I live in the Netherlands and my mobile operator is simyo/kpn.

  • Nokia 301 app store problems

I have a problem with the Nokia Store app in my Nokia 301 (single SIM) RM-841 v.8.02 S40 phone. It's an unlocked phone.
I opened the store app and it said there was a required update. I said yes and it updated. However, after that, the Nokia Store app doesn't work properly and hangs, and it also displays the icon with a key over it. The Nokia internet doesn't work properly either after the store app update.
I tried to use the recovery tool wich I downloaded from Microsoft. I installed it, connected the phone with the appropiate USB cable, followed the instructions. The recovery tool detected my phone but after that, it just doesn't seem to work and it says installation failed and gets stuck at 10%.
What can I do to solve and/or fix the issue to be able to use the Nokia Store app again and the Nokia internet browser.
    I have Windows 7 of 64bit.
    Can anyone help me?

On the first (differ), you have to say YES, or the download does not work.
On the second (keep), depends on the app. However, I go for NO usually.
The built-in apps do not have the download URL embedded, when you first update. Furthermore, even the next updates are going to show that warning because the webserver scripts redirect while updating. Therefore, this message. Botching. This is actually a software-bug in the app and webserver scripts. With one experienced computer scientist, this would not have happened.
If you do not keep the data, you start all over – except for apps which store your data online, like the Nokia Store. If you start over, you make sure, you do not have RMS with unexpected settings. This is important, if you used an already updated app, which FOTA downgrades. Because you do not know, if FOTA downgraded an app, NO is the safe way. We saw that with Nokia Xpress on some models. Anyway, again, a software-bug because apps can be designed to handle unknown/future settings easily. Botching.

  • Nokia mix radio /store not visible Lumia 720 India

I have recently bought Lumia 720 and when I am trying to find mix radio or nokia music store under nokia music; it's just not showing up. Is the service not available in India and if so; when will it be available or there is some problem with my device? Thanks in advance for your response.
    Solved!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
Mix radio is available in India. May we know if you are using a local SIM card? If yes, you may try to re-insert the SIM card and then check it again. Does your Nokia account's country/region set in India? To verify this, log in to your account through this link:
    https://account.nokia.com/
Please make sure that the phone's country/region is set in India as well. If it's different, try to change it and then reboot your phone.
Let us know the result so we can help you with this.

  • Sequence not closed at store close

Using the DPL with BDB v4.7.25 (Java API), I have observed that closing an EntityStore do not close the Sequence objects attached to it.
EntityStore.close() closes the sequence database, but not the Sequence itself. Open through getSequence(String).
The bad side effect for me is that the mutex used by this sequence is never released.
This can also be seen directly in the source file.
The issue is still valid in BDB v4.8.24.
As a work around, I close all sequences open so far by the store, just before closing it finally. The mutex(es) are properly released.
    Thanks for your feedback.

    Fixed in 4.8.26

  • Nokia PC Suite Store Image change last storage dat...

I have old media from e71 that were transferred to the PC using PC Suite Image Store. The files were deleted and I have been trying to transfer the old files with no success. I think it is because of the last storage date. so how can one sort this? thanks very much

Y dont you try uninstalling and reinstalling PC suite completely, which will rebuild the databases with the new ones. Then hopefully the sync of old files works for you.
PC suite cleaner will remove all the entries related to PC suite. Download from the link provided below
    http://www.nokia.co.in/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-pc-suites/how-to/nokia-pc-su...
Also there is Nokia Ovi Suite available, which is the latest software offering from Nokia. With the help of this you can sync your photos and it will be displayed in Ovi Suite window itself.

  • Closing App Store account

Hi, I would like my account to be closed please. What steps do I have to follow?
    Thanks

    Hello Rcwebmas,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Hi, I would like my account to be closed please. What steps do I have to follow?
There really are none because there really is no way to "close" an account. The most you can do is basically quit using the account and make sure you set the Payment option to None.

  • Re: Nokia Lumia 620 Store tile doesen't show any u...

That was the solution for me. I went to windowsphone.com and deleted my phone (if there are more, delete them all), and after that, i hard reset my phone.

Seems a little extreme, I have several phones registered on my Windows account and still get regular notifications , I would only advise resetting the phone in extreme situations personally.

  • To Nokia Ovi Store Board Staff about App Prices

I have a question about application purchases in Nokia's Ovi Store. When I wanted to buy a gaming application, it was shown that it costs 0.50 LVL, but after the purchase was made, the bank's purchase history showed me that the application cost 0.82 LVL. Why Nokia's Ovi Store shows misleading prices if this transaction fee for the purchase of the bank was not charged and is free? Then it turns out that all the prices in the Nokia Store is wrong in our LVL currency. I hope you can keep a little more detail to explain these differences and the existence of misleading prices and, of course, I would like to own 0.32 LVL back because payment as you can see there is a surplus.

I thought it was a wallpaper or something! I also downloaded suduko for free and its only a demo. Is there a better site to get apps from safely that are trusted sites?

  • Transferring Music Bought from Nokia Music Store u...

I have bought music from Nokia’s Music Store (specifically, on the Finnish ‘Nokia Musiikkikauppa’). I have downloaded the music files to my computer, and would like to transfer them to my phone, a Nokia N82. In order to do that, I have tried to use Nokia Music Manager (v2.0). I am able to find the songs I downloaded on my PC in the ‘My Collection’ section of Nokia Music Manager, and I can see my phone ‘N82’ in the list below. However, when I go to File -> Copy to Phone, the ‘Copy to Phone’ line is greyed-out, and I cannot use that function. This makes no sense to me. Can it really be that I cannot use ‘Nokia Music Manager’ to transfer music I bought at the ‘Nokia Music Store?’
I partially suspect that this is indeed the case. From the Nokia Music Store help section, I have read “You need to use [Windows Media Player] in order to be able to play, burn and transfer the DRM-protected WMA files from Nokia Music Store.” From this, it would seem that only Windows Media Player can be used to transfer Nokia Music Store music to Nokia phones. However, I simply find it beyond belief that Nokia’s own music manager software cannot be used to transfer music bought from Nokia’s own music store to Nokia’s own devices.
Can anyone shed light on this case?

i had this problem, try doing it through the windows media player. i cannot remember exactly how i did it in the end but i did burn the music to a disc and i'm wondering if i loaded it from the cd in the end?

  • Nokia Store unable to launch

Frndz i am using Nokia E7 with symbia Anna, and unfortunately i unistalled Nokia Store from my device by this the store icon from menu has removed. Then I install the store app again on my device but i unable toh launch it as the store widget is missing.. Please help me out.!

    @MrH672
You could always backup device using Nokia Suite on PC then in Options > Software updates - choose to re-install existing software version.
Another option might be to install Store QML Client from Nokia Beta Labs http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/store-qml-client by signing in with Nokia ID & password.

  • New Nokia store client- no update yet!

I have observed the new Nokia store QML client is ready in Nokia beta labs. Is it not yet out of beta testing? Has anybody got the update on their phone? This client is supposed to replace the existing WRT client. When shall we expect the update being rolled out? Or Do we need to download it from beta labs itself? If I download it from beta labs, the current version Cant be uninstalled. It just stays put along with the new version.
