Nokia confuses people...

Oh, I just learnt, Nokia Messaging is not necessarily Nokia Messaging...
I have installed the client from http://email.nokia.com which is called "Nokia Messaging", but actually just handled e-mail. And there is a second service, named http://messaging.nokia.com which is the "real" Nokia Messaging, but is in beta phase and actually seems not to be available for download...
I find it a bit confusing...

For someone who is new to Nokia it is confusing. And as if it wouldn't be enough, Nokia uses a different domain for every service... "email.nokia.com" "messaging.nokia.com", maps is now called "Ovi maps". Or has it a new name in the meantime? Why doesn't Nokia use *one* domain for everything: nokia.com/messaging nokia.com/maps nokia.com/betalabs and so on.
Further, using different domain names has the disadvantage that  the web browser must separately store login names for each domain. Using one single domain would allow single sign on more easily. This is one of the points why Apple is so much more efficient: one domain for everything, one web site for everything. What does Nokia? A new website for each little project, no single sign on (ok I admit, this slowly changes now. Finally).

  • How to confuse people with poorly thought out ideas.

So I'm looking to upgrade my phone and I see, "you're eligible for a free upgrade." however there's a $30 fee for this "free upgrade." Nonsense! After choosing my plan details for this new phone. (There were actually no changes in my plan from old phone to new phone.) The website tell me my new monthly total will be $48.99. NICE! I used to pay $80 a month. A pleasant chat associate comes online to assist however she is unable to explain this new $48.99 monthly total. She also confirms that this information is regularly confusing to Customers and assures me my regular monthly rate will still be $80. Today I get an email confirmation of my new phone which again includes this $48.99 new monthly total. Verizon! Get your head out from between your knees! You have poorly thought out information on your sales pages and confirmation emails. Your own employees agree and confirm your thoughtlessness. In addition, you have no clear and easy to find way to communicate with you via email. (Hmmm - seems intentional to me!) I will give credit where credit is due. The mobile phone services and signals you provide are excellent. Your website is not!

You are correct, it IS intentional. It is not only unclear and/or hard, Verizon DOES NOT even have email correspondence with CS. They discontinued this method of communication within the last year.

  • Nokia 822 People 'Listing' Issue

I am trying to sort my contacts in 'People' by Last Name, First without success. I have selected both  'Sort by Last Name', and 'Display names by Last, First' and the list still displays as 'First, Last'.  I double-checked my entries to make sure they are correct (i.e. Last name is in fact in last name field). Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was able to 'fix' the issue by using Verizon's Backup Assistant Pro to back up my phone's contacts (PEOPLE) and then selecting each entry to be sorted 'Last Name , First Name' . This corrected the entries in the Backup Assistant app which then synced with my phone - correcting the entries on the phone. Thanks Verizon for a good tool. Consider this issue closed.

    Hi
I been seeing alot on other forums the confussion that the 3GS is setting!
People seem to think that the iphone 3.0 software update will give them the extra features of extra battery, speeds, vid recorder etc the 3GS has.
Dont you think apple could of played this diffrently and released the software at a later date and let people be more aware that THERE IS A NEW IPHONE with better hardware but cosmeticaly the same.

  • Ovi? nokia? I'm confused

On my phone it says clearly nokia. It's a nokia phone made by nokia. This web page has a Nokia (connecting people) on the top left side. What on earth is Oki? other than the finnish word for portal. Oki maps Oki shop. Clear, its a portal from nokia but why call it ovi (=portal) and not, well, nokia.
Everytime a page by Nokia comes up I'm confused if I should enter my nokia account details or my ovi account details, logon with my nokia username or my ovi username.
Could someone of the marketing department clear this up a bit for a simple technical guy?

  • Nokia Has Forsaken the N96 in Asia-Pacific.

Go to the Nokia Asia Pacific support page for the N96 - http://www.nokia-asia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/nokia-n96 and it's official - Nokia have forsaken this handset.
It's actually quite embarrassing. This page has not changed since December 2008 when firmware version 12.043 came out. And that's been it for Asia Pacific customers. As of today, 31st October 2009, the page still invites you to update to the 'latest' 12.043!!
Meanwhile, the rest of the world has enjoyed firmware releases 21.xxx and now 30.033 (not that it instills me with any confidence that in 30 software versions, Nokia STILL cannot get it right), but this is a downright slap in the face to customers who have paid TOP DOLLAR for this phone (remember, it was the flagship model 12 months ago). It simply isn't good enough, Nokia!
After repeated emails and calls to Nokia, and similar to my service provider, Optus, reporting all the daily crashes, lock-ups and overall SLOWNESS of this phone, I finally took my case to the Telephone Industry Ombudsman (TIO) here in Australia.
I kid you not, within HOURS I had a customer service rep from Optus phoning me to apologise profusely for the lack of support for this phone. Some investigations were made, and Optus, still unable to get any reasonable response from Nokia, offered me an entirely new phone - to my choice - without having to sign up to another plan (I still have 12-months to go on the N96).
So that's it for me everyone! Reading around the forum here I see the N97 is beset with just as much **bleep** as the N96, and so my nice shiny new iPhone 3GS 32GB is on the way. Thanks Optus!!
This N96 is going now where it thoroughly deserves to be - in the bin!! And good riddance!
Needless to say, it is definitely the last Nokia that will ever darken my doorstep. After over 15 years of customer loyalty, I'm off.
See you all over on the iPhone forums?

    Nokia: Connecting People... with iPhones.

I think Optus may have been telling you some porkies.
I had similar experiences with my Vodafone Ireland N95 8gb. I bought it with V12. When V21 was released, I waited a few months and nothing happened so I contacted Vodafone who immediately blamed Nokia, so I contacted Nokia only to be told the firmware update had been sent to Vodafone for their modification and approval. It was up to Vodafone to modify the soft to include their branding nd then return it to Nokia for release. After further frustrating calls to Vodafone, I was finally put through to someone who told me that the update was on his desk and he would get round to it the next week and he did. I got my V21 the next week.
When the next update came along, once again I waited and finally decided to ring when there was no sign of it. Again Vodafone's immediate response was to blame Nokia. However I knew better this time and finally got put through to the correct person again. This time he told me they had no intentions of spending anymore time on updates for the N95 8gb because it was not a popular phone for them and that V21 was stable enough. In other words I am stuck at V21 and still amto this day. Maybe I should contact the ombudsman as well.
I think Optus have not told you the truth and have paid you off with a new phone to keep you quiet. The truth is they can't be bothered working on the update since you could be the only one shouting for it.

  • Is Nokia ready for high end market?

It is the time of smartphones.  With the introduction of 3G, distance and speed are not a barrier at all.  Prediction is that, we will see a shift from laptop to smartphones, something we experienced a few years ago when laptop replaced desktops. So, is Nokia really ready for this competitve market?  I believe they are still not ready looking at the way they support N series and E series.
My horror story started the day I purchased my N96, exactly 4 months back.   I have been watching the developments of N95 and wanted to own one.  Nokia released N96 by the time I made my decision.  The problem started when I started seeing low memory errors.  To my surprise, I noticed that Nokia uses phone memory for messages and N-gauge.  Configuring "mass memory" as the storage for messages didn't solve the problem completely as it failed to move all messagesI searched for some file explorer kind of applications to explore and clean phone memory.  I wish if Nokia had one.  The solution given to me by Nokia support was to reset the phone.  And, that cleared all data from my phone.  So, here are a list of my pain points
    - Does Nokia expect us to reset phone for every small issues.  Note that, these are not just phones, but smart phones.  More than contacts, I have my personal data, bookmarks, configurations, rss feeds, video feeds, radio stations, podcasts, GPS locations, blogging tools, applications etc. installed.  Getting back the phone in the same state will take days after a hard reset.  Do I agree if my laptop service center tells me that they have to format my harddisk everytime I take my laptop for servicing? Nokia Care's standard answer is to update the firmware (though I have the latest firmware) and reset the phone for any issues.  I only wish if Nokia trained their technicians to handle smartphones.
    - N96 reboots when I use GPS 50% of the times (when you use it for longer duration either with google map or Nokia map or sports tracker)
    - Phone hangs when you move from wifi hotspot to other places while wifi scan is going on (I don't see this issue after upgrading to 12.043)
    - There is no way to restart the phone when the phone hangs.  You have to take out the battery and put it back.
    - I get disconnected frequently when I'm on long calls.  Though I can blame my network provider, I know its not completely because of them.  My N70 doesn't have this problem.
    - I have been having a long battle with Nokia support and bluetooth issues.  I tried to use Motorola HT820 headset with this phone.  Phone hangs or reboots 90% time when I turn on the headset.  Nokia's standard answer is that Motorola HT820 is not a supported accessory.  I agree, but is it acceptable if phone reboots or hangs when I tried to use an unsupported accessory?  Only way to reboot the phone when it hangs is to remove the battery and place it back.  Why can't they give a reset switch hidden somewhere if they can't write bugfree code (and nonone can).  I have been doing this for the last one month while trying to convince Nokia that they have a problem with their bluetooth stack. I can prove that it happens only with A2DP profile.  I have been using a plantronics bluetooth headset without any problem.  I'm also using HT820 with my Nokia N70 which supports only HSP profile. Unfortunately, N96 doesn't provide an option to choose what profile you want to use when you pair a bluetooth headset.  I could have listened to music from my laptop (A2DP) while the headset is connected with phone (HSP), and I don't miss any calls.  I'm pretty sure it is a bug in their bluetooth stack; only if I could talk to one of their developers and explain the problem.
    - You know the commotion Nokia created when they removed VoIP stack from N96.  Thanks to Fring, I use VoIP and skype with N96 today.
    - The NetWork stack is so cumbursome.  Each applications have to define their own access points and rights.  Why can't it be in the platform level? Just imagin you doing this on your laptop for each of the applications.
    - Its better not to talk about the battery.  It comes for less than a day for me.  But, you can always blaim the usage.
How do we make Nokia listen to issues?  Do they have any customer feedback forum (please, not through the Nokia Care centers)?  I wish if they improve, after all, I still love my phone (Yes, I paid a good amount for this phone)

    N96, FW: 12.043

    Hi Jaimon,
I'm with you - I've had my N96 nearly six months and am VERY disappointed.
I just bought a Parrot Party Bluetooth speaker. A GREAT little unit. Needless to say, the implementation of A2DP leaves a LOT to be desired on the N96. Basically, it's like listening to a CD that skips every 10 seconds. The N96 cannot keep up the stream of data fast enough. It's VERY annoying.
I checked to make sure no other apps were running to make sure it wasn't something else running that was causing the problem, but no, it's rubbish (I have firmware 12.043). Other people in my office can connect their Blackberries etc... no problem. Plays back beautifully, but my N96? Piece of garbage.
Nokia have a LOT to answer for! Like you say, a phone that costs more than a laptop and this is the level of service we get. I have written TWICE via their online customer service form, and on each occasion received an email saying I can expect a response in 72 hours. I've never received ANYTHING!
Also, I had a Plantronics headset - Explorer 340. A nice headset. Same problems as mentioned elsewhere, would intermittently be disconnected and reconnected - very annoying. Last week, it paired but would not connect. Plantronics' support was wonderful! So efficient. They're exchanging the unit with a newer model (brand new) because they cannot replace the old model. Maybe that will work better. Meanwhile, because I NEED a headset for driving (and the supplied stereo headset is pathetic - cable too short, microphone ends up around your waist (USELESS!)) I bought (*gasp*) a Nokia BH-101. Paired fine with the N96 (as one would EXPECT), but the headset itself is lousy - such a poor design. I challenge anyone to make it fit in their ear comfortably enough as to be able to HEAR the bloody thing while driving. I have to keep one hand on it to keep it in my ear. USELESS NOKIA!
What is it WITH this company?! Why have they lost the plot?!??!

AFTER USING IT FOR SOME DAYS I THOUGHT OF UPDATING THE PHONE SOFTWARE WITH NOKIA SOFTWARE UPDATER THRU MY LAPTOP. BUT AFTER COMPLETING 61% MY PHONE SWITCHED OFF AUTOMATICALLY. THE BATTERY WAS FULLY CHARGED. AFTER THAT IT BECAME DEAD. I TRIED NOKIA CARE CENTER AND GAVE MY PHONE ON 01-10-2008 FOR REPAIR.
BUT AFTER SOMEDAYS THEY CALL ME & SAID THAT REPAIR WILL TAKE TIME AS COMPONENT IS NOT AVAILABLE WITH THEM. SO I WAITED FOR SOME MORE DAYS. THEN ON 10-10-08 THEY SAY THAT THE PHONE HAS TO BE REPLACED AS IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED.
MEANWHILE I KEPT ON EMAILING NOKIA CARE ABOUT THE REASON FOR DELAY.. BUT ALL IN VAIN..
NOW ON LAST FRIDAY THE NOKIA CARE PEOPLE CALLED ME FOR COLLECTING THE REPLACED SET. BUT I WAS QUITE SHOCKED TO SEE THAT SET. IT WAS NOKIA N82 ONLY BUT ALL SCRATCHED & TAMPERED WITH SCREW MARKS. AND THEY SAY THAT ITS COMPANY POLICY TO REPLACE WITH A WORKING PHONE ONLY.
SO I'VE NOT TAKEN THE DELIVERY OF THE SET.
HEREBY I ASK U ALL MEMBERS THAT WHAT FAULT I MADE BY TAKING A NOKIA PHONE.

  • Nokia Lumia 928 MMS issues on unlocked device

I'm a Finnish guy and using Elisa as a carrier.
I got the chance to purchase unlocked Lumia 928 with a decent price so I checked its specifications (GSM Arena site) and also found out it could be used internationally.
It seemed to be a brilliant phone (and it sure is) so I purchased it.
But now I'm facing the problem with the MMS messages. All settings are just OK and I can send MMS messages successfully but I cannot receive them. The phone announces that "you've received a message which has media content" but when I try to open the media content, nothing happens.
This seems to be quite common problem (at least when I'm reading those most popular Windows Phone discussion forums) but I haven't found a solution to it. Someone has just said that because the phone is made for a particular carrier, it has "specialities" in its firmware. Well, the phone uses same MMS settings for sending and receiving MMS messages so how come MMS messages won't get thru to my phone correctly? I'd also like to know how the MMS firmware settiing are different between Lumia 925 and 928???
And most of all I'd like to get a remedy/solution to fix the problem from Nokia/Microsoft people Thanks a lot in advance!

Well, I suppose that even though Verizon has ordered these phones from Nokia, all the settings, applications and characteristics were preloaded to the phone at the factory. So in other words Verizon would've delivered preconfigured things to Nokia before the manufacturing process and would not start to fiddling around (=to install all the setting, apps and characteristics) when they received the phones from Nokia.
Therefore someone in Nokia/Microsoft must know the differencies between the stock firmware and the Verizon firmware, especially if we're now talking about these MMS issues. And I wanna know it. If I'd ask the same question from Verizon, they probably would not know the difference between those aforementioned firmware.
It's not rocket science, I guess it's just because of those preloaded/-configured differencies between the stock and the Verizon firmwares...

Tsup guys, I`m having this new release of nokia s60 5th edition (Nokia 5800 Express Music) but since I bought it last month I`ve started discover some features are not working as I always used to see them to my previous handset (Nokia n73-1). At my previous nokia n73 when I`m on playing music that I`ve store in my handset and then the I receive the sms message its only makes a light beep sound even if I`m on profile that setted another alter tune for sms but in this nokia 5800 when sms comes in the middle of track playback its pause for a time from plyaing the song then start ring the current profile`s sms alter tune then keep on playing the track. On the side of adding sms recipients, if your forwading an sms to more than one person then you`ve started adding recipients by either searching or scrolling you might face some of the contacts doesn`t appear in your list after adding some others even if you do it by search contacts for typing the first alphabets of the recipients you are searching. So in order to get them you`ve to select OK then select the ADD RECIPIENTS again then you will find the contacts that were not seen before. Lastly, on the message writing. When I use the HANDWRITING style, I can write my things well but still up to know I`ve not yet find the area where I can erase the words that I`ve wrotes. Instead I`m supposed to change the keyboard type so as I can get the erease key. Can anybody help me to locate where can I find the erease key when I`m in mode of HANDWRITING style that uses a given special touch-screen pencil. I`m using it which means I`II keep discover many more things that seems these nokia have lack in this model & if there is anybody else found something please don`t hesitate to contribute here too. • Crime of buying a Nokia N97

I see that I'm not all alone who has issues with N97. This is the worst phone ever and guess what I have a Nokia 6630 from the time it was launched and it works better then N97.... My phone was with their repair team for almost a month as firmware issue, camera flash was constantly on despite switching the phone off (on connecting the battery it would start), the camera quality was soo bad and its settings never responded; you login to facebook and cannot logout, the phone gets hangs in between, the swipe doesnt work sometimes when you try to answer the call, while loading applications or widgets the screen goes black... I have set the main internet connection point to be my WLAN but sometimes it automatically switches to "Data Package" by the service provider which I have not made as an access point and clearly defined WLAN (lost all my credit due to this).... once back in the WLAN area the phone does not search and connect to it by default and the other net applications like news, weather, etc does not connect unless I reset the phone.
Its been two months since I bought this phone with one month being with Nokia for repair work (infact they swapped the whole phone) but did not replace it... Yeah finally can someone tell me how to delete the email headers from the mailbox... it never deletes and hoped this would have been resolved by the new firmware as per Nokia service people...
I have had HTC phones - my god what a phone it was and never had to these issues esp with WLAN as it used to automatically scan and update information..
Exhausted and mentally tortured by Nokia N97 and time taken to repair the phone but still no difference.... should have gone for HTC Pro2
P.S - Nokia please recall this stupid **bleep** machine of yours and replace it with a new one or refund customers back their money...

"Many users of the N97 have been reporting various system based errors and bugs that have been plaguing the device since its release date. There are even entire forums dedicated to the bugs and problems of N97 users –a testament to how unstable the system is. The big blow came as both mobile carrier Vodafone UK and distributer Electronista have stopped offering the device to customers. Electronista now redirects buyers to the more stable N97 Mini and Vodafone no longer lists the device."

  • Disappointed from Nokia N97

HI i purchases a Nokia N97 about a month or two ago. i picked the white version and at the same time my dad picked the black version. over this past month i had so many problems with it such as shutting off for no reason quitting applications for no reason, having a black screen for a few second, etc.
i went to the Nokia Flagship store and they took my phone to diagnose it. They replaced some vibration sensor which did not help at all and my phone kept on having all of those problems. Yesterday i went to the store and they replaced my phone in a new one, now this phone is also messed up. most of the time it gives me this error message: "disk error - cannot complete write retry or data will be lost"
I'm really getting sick of this phone because I'm paying alot more for it since i need to drive to the store and waste so much of my time.
As i said before my dad has the black version and has non of these problems and errors he's runs smoothly.

Look, if your phone’s a lemon take it back and demand replacement. If the store will only offer to fix it, contact Nokia (your phone is still under warranty) and see if they will replace it for you. If they offer to repair, accept the offer if you want to keep the phone (they will send you a UPS label for return, so you won’t have to drive to the store again). If you don’t, sell it and count your losses and move on. There are options for you if you wish to use them. Sometimes life isn’t simple. The people here that kindly offer tech support and help for all manner of problems do so as a kindness and willingness to help others. They are not employees of Nokia, just people like you and me. The only difference between them and you, to paraphrase John Lennon, is that to them there are no problems, only solutions. This is a support forum, not a mope forum. If, as you say, you came here with absolutely no desire to receive help from forum members, but merely to gripe, then I would suggest you find a place more suitable to unload your angst and self-pity.
