Nokia DAB Radio

I upgraded my N8 to Belle this morning and have lost the DAB radio application. Cannot find it via OVI store or the software updates. Is it available anywhere else?
Many thanks

Go to Nokia support http://support.ovi.com/osc/en_GB/faq/FA137774_en_US and this is the answer you get The DAB app is unfortunately not available for Nokia Belle Thanks a lot Nokia for letting me waste my money on an expensive DAB Headset which used to work on my phone until I upgraded to Belle. but don't worry they have reinstated the FM radio that works with any headset appart from the DAB one. So much for customer care

Is there a way to permanently stop being advised of particular updates? I don't have a DAB headset and have no intention of getting one. I don't want to install the DAB Radio on my N8 but software update clearly wants me to.
Most software updates give you the option to ignore the update, but I can't see this with Nokia. Other than installing it, is there a way to never see this again?

You have two options, install it and bury it in a folder or just ignore the message about it.
There is nothing more that can be done about it and the update cannot be hidden. If this annoys you contact nokia care and ask for the complaints address.

  • N8 Dab Radio Application

I have just got the Nokia DAB radio, and downloaded the DAB radio app from the Ovi Store.  Everything works fine, apart from Nokia using about 75% of the screen for the word DAB and still using the menu structure to control functionality rather than populating the screen real estate with useful buttons to allow things to happen with one click rather than having to go through the normal multiple-press menu functions.
As this app is ONLY available for compatible phones - touch-screen devices - why, oh why did they not, for instance put a pile of buttons on the screen instead of having 75% of the space wasted - say 4 buttons to switch between your 4 most used radio stations (which could even optionally be populated over time like Bots does with Contacts, by learning which stations you play most often) - another button to bring up the full channel list, another button to pull up you favourites list, etc. etc.
In addition there is no 'sleep' function, a major omission for any radio application these days.
Does anyone know of an application that is compatible with the N8 that is capable of closing a named application after a set period of time.  If I could close the DAB app after say an hour, automatically, then that would function as a sleep timer.
Apart from these gripes, I have to say that the kit works fine and reception is great - excellently engineered bit of kit, as always from Nokia - just a shame the associated software is badly designed, a pain to use, and lacking essential functionality if they had reallt thought about it.  It is the sort of app I would have expected to be suitable for my N95 but falls way short of what should be coming out for the newer Symbian^3 devices.  This is now a HIGHLY competitive marketplace and the quality of Nokia's own applications leaves a lot to be desired - even for a lifetime Nokia fan like me - it is now 2011 Nokia - get serious and develop an attitude of excellence with the software/apps - not one of stunning mediocrity - or fall by the wayside!

I really feel that I shouldn't HAVE to be teaching Nokia software developers to think - but, here we go ....
To add a radio station to the favourite station list you have to tap the station from the list which then highlights it, and then tap a button at the bottom to either Add or Remove it from your favourites list. (this single button conveniently changes - if the station is already a favourite you can, of course, only remove it, so it says Remove - and if it isn't a favourite then this button says, of course, Add).  Now that is 2 taps.  What is wrong with each tap on a station on the list changing the choice for that station - if it already is a favourite, then it is Removed, if it is not a favourite then it is Added.  One tap.  This is a touch screen - if I tap something then presumably I wanted to do something with it - as it is already a favourite, goodness gracious, I probably want to remove it - WHY MAKE ME  PRESS A BUTTON SAYING REMOVE?  Even if I make a mistake, and accidentally tap the wrong one, another tap and it is reversed.
It seems that in every application the philosophy of Nokia developers is "why use one tap where two, three or even more can be designed in" - have they never heard of KISS - keep it simple, stupid!  No wonder Nokia UI and software is getting pilloried by the media generally - even new applications cannot be written intelligently.

    Is this thing on?
I just installed the DAB radio app as a software update on a new (to me) N8 a couple of days back.

  • DAB Radio App and Belle FP2 (on 808)

I loved listening to DAB Radio via the Nokia headset on my C7. Imagine my surprise when I bought a new 808 Pureview and the DAB Radio App was missing.
I installed the app from (ahem!) another place, and it runs OK, but then crashes whenever I access the menu. This is a little frustrating as I paid good money for the headset - and the 808.
I know Symbian is in decline, but it is still supported and it can't be too much to ask for this bug to be fixed and the App to put back in the store.

Interesting. I'm running 113.010.1507 - reported by my phone as up-to-date -  and it crashes every time I hit the menu options.
Version of the DAB App is 2.05(19). Not sure if that's the most up to date version - it doesn't appear in the Store and I had to get it elsewhere.

  • DAB Radio on N8 Belle

Since updating to Belle, I am no longer able to use the dab radio app, which renders my £40 headset obsolete. Hopefully this app will be available again soon??

  • DAB+ radio for N8 available in Australia?

Anybody know if the DAB+ radio for N8 will be available in Australia soon? I presume one can buy it on-line from UK ....  and does anyone know if it is any good? One big question apart from reception may be what it does to battery life. Thanks Paul.

Don't bother unless you intend to buy the necessary DAB headset in order for the software to function.

  • N8 DAB Radio available

Just ran updates on my phone and it says DAB radio. Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere.
You need a digital headset. Not sure why no internet radio yet.

I can tell you why Nokia advertise the release of the DAB app.  The DAB radio accessory is now available for purchase - just made available.  If you download and run the app. it detects the fact that the DAB accessory is not connected and puts up a message asking you if you want to buy the headset - clicking on this button will take you to the Nokia website for the headset.  Incidentally - it is about £49 bought via the Nokia UK Store (including standard postage)  but they currently have none available (possibly because they have sold well?)
It is only compatibel with the new phones - N8 and C7 currently - must have the new USB-on-the-go connection.

  • N8 DAB Radio - now available in UK

Just thought I would post the fact that today I bought the DAB Radio USB kit from my local Nokia Store - in fact it was the first one they sold.
Had to go to Ovi Store to download the application onto the phone, but have tried it out and it works well, even with a reportedly weak signal.  You can either listen to the radio through the supplied headphones, or activate the speakers on the phone (with the headset connected as well as this acts as the aerial), and you can also detach the Nokia supplied headphones and use your own.  I tried plugging in one of the Nokia MD9 speakers instead of headphones, and that works fine as well.  Great bit of kit, but not cheap at nearly £60.  However it will sure beat carrying a bigger DAB radio around when I travel and for work.  If you are into DAB radio, may be worth a punt.
My current phone - Samsung Galaxy Note

OK - further quick update on using DAB radio in the car.  I removed the headphones and connected a separate FM Transmitter that I have used quite happily with an MP3 player - it has an autoscan feature and scans and saves four 'free' channels, and you can then tune to one of the 4.  Initially, whilst close to home, the DAB radio played quite well - getting my hopes up.  However when I went further afield, it kept dropping the signal for 2-3 second periods, and was showing a low signal strength.  I think this is because the car acts as a metal shield.  I could probably lengthen the lead to the transmitter, by getting an extension lead, and then lay that round the front of the windscreen to make a longer 'aerial', but whether it is worth it or not is questionable.  Most car DAB installations have a fairly long internal aerial installed. So, for now I am resigned to listening to podcasts and music in the car which is OK.  If it had worked it may have been useful at times, but it is not a killer for me.  I wanted it to take on my travels as it is very neat and compact compared to any other DAB radio - it is, in effect, not much bigger than my normal headphones which I would be taking with me anyway.

  • Nokia Internet Radio Error: Connection Timed Out. ...

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with the Nokia Internet Radio application on the Nokia N95. The app launches ok but if I try and browse the station directory or perform a search I get the error 'Connection Timed Out. Try Again' This happens almost instantly i.e. it doesn't look like it's even trying to connect. If I go to the shoutcast site and click on the 'Tune In' button next to a station the Internet radio app launches and I get an error saying 'General: System Error' and the application closes then goes back to the browser and a message saying 'Web: No Gateway Reply' The application worked fine up until recently. I upgraded to FW V 21.0.016 and hasn't worked since so it may be that this has caused the problem. I've removed and re-downloaded \ re-installed the software but still get the same issue. Web browsing works fine, so I know my internet settings are fine, and the old open-source version of the radio player even works so it's just an issue with this app. Any advice on how to fix it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem and I fixed it.  For me, it was because I am on the Rogers network in Canada.  Regardless of where you are many cellular neworks use firewalls and something called NAT (Network Address Translation).  Nokia should really make people aware of this because probably 50% of people around the world have this problem.  The solution for me was to use Rogers VPN or Public IP to access the internet.  Rogers blocks access to this internet connection so you have to add the service to your account for $10 per month but I have heard that other carriers like FIDO have not blocked access to it.
On the Nokia n79 this requires creating a new access point under TOOLS>SETTINGS>CONNECTIONS>DESTINATIONS.  Add a new access point with the following settings:
Connection Name: Rogers VPN (or whatever you want to call it)
    Data Bearer: Packet Data
    Access Point Name: vpn.com
    User Name: wapuser1
    Prompt Password: No
    Password: wapuser
    Authenticaiton: Normal
    Homepage: None
Use Access Point: After Confirmation (or change if you want something else)
That's it. When you load the internet radio Application and it lists your options select "Rogers VPN".  If you don't see it in the list, press the soft button for Options then "Select Access Point" and you will see the full list.  If you want the VPN to be the first thing you see you can change the priority under destination settings.  Just select the VPN and press "Organize" then "Change priority".

  • Connecting Shuffle to DAB Radio

    Hi all,
I have a cheap old MP3 player, which I can connect to my DAB radio, to play the contents of the MP3 player. How do I connect my shuffle to get the same results?
The problem arises because the earphones cable contains all the facilities to change volume/tracks etc, therefore if I was to use a normal jack cable to connect the shuffle to the DAB radio, I cannot do anything with it as there are no controls on the shuffle itself.
    Any help welcome.

  • Ipod Speakers with DAB Radio

Does anyone know if there any speaker type accessories that also have built in DAB radio.
I can't seem to find anything remotely similar except for those systems that allow you to plug you iPod into a line-in plug.
Also surprised that no manufacturer has tapped into this market.
I want speakers for the ipod but I don't want to buy them and then find out that a dab model will be out soon. I'd also prefer to have an all-in-1 unit so I don't have to have cables lying around.
Am I being to fussy or is this a valid request..
