Nokia drop

Hi guys
I installed Drop on my 603 and extenstion in Chrome on my PC. Version of Drop on my phone is 1.3.1. I have sent an app from ovi store from my pci to my phone and it said succesfully sent but when i start drop on my 603 in the top right corrner just says connecting with yellow circle and stays that way. I can connect to the internet on my phone and do everything that reliase on internet but drop wont connect. Tried with 3G and home Wi-Fi.

drop, in fact, looks like discontinued for symbian. Even I'm not able to get it connect on my C6-01. I uninstalled it and now I'm left with no drop for the installation file says expired certificate.

I ask for help on BetaLabs twitter and they told me the service is still running and ask for help here.. You can do the following steps if you're referring to the Nokia Drop in the device:
1. Switch off/on the phone.
2. Check if there's an active connection. Try to access websites to verify.
3. Restore factory settings.
4. Clear the browser's cache.
5. Uninstall/reinstall the Nokia Store.
6. Check if the Nokia Store has an update.
7. Check if there's a latest software update.
Try the following steps if you're referring to the Nokia Drop for computer:
1. Check if you have an active connection. Try to access websites to verify.
2. Clear the browser's cache.
3. Uninstall/reinstall the Nokia Suite.

Is anyone able to use Nokia E6-00 with Nokia Drop on OVI Store?
If so, what is the procedure?
I'm using Firefox 6 with the Nokia Drop 1.3.

In settings, connectivity, network, change the network mode to either gsm or 3G, look for better signal one, don't select dual mode.

Nokia Drop now broken on newer Firefox versions

I have tried to get Nokia Drop to work on Firefox 21. The Nokia drop website says the browser is unsupported and Ovi Store in Firefox tells me to use Nokia Suite to download apps. The plugin can be installed but nothing happens.
I previously could send a link from Ovi Store via text message from Firefox, now I can't.
I am still accessing Nokia Drop's usability in Chrome and earlier Firefox versions.

You need to use the Nokia Suite if you're going to use a computer to download an application from the Nokia Store. Otherwise, use your phone to download an application.
Here are the two ways for you to do it:
By using your phone - Make sure you have an active and stable connection on your phone. To do this, go to Nokia Store and then sign in to your Nokia account. Look for an application to download and select or tap the Download button. Wait until it installs on your phone.
By using a computer - Open the Nokia Suite after downloading it from this link: www.nokia.com/nokiasuite . After that, connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable and then sign in to your Nokia account. Go to Nokia Store and then look for an application that you want to download. Then, click on the Download button to proceed. Wait until it installs on your phone.

Are Nokia dropping the SU-1B Digital Pen?

I was wondering if anyone else had heard if Nokia are dropping the SU-1B Digital Pen and having their new pen rebranded from Logitech?
I cant belive it myself but there must be something in this...thoughts please?

Why have Nokia dropped support for the 808?

It never gets anything, still waiting for NFC payment, Wifi is still borked with no 5ghrz support even tho it was advertised, still waiting for browser updates to make it useful, gets nothing they're putting into their Lumia series.
Why release a phone to just ditch it?
Edit: Oh yeah and the camera is still **bleep** for night time shots, the right hand side of the picture always has this lighter area ruining it.

Are you crazy? The 808's pictures are better. Sharper no overzealus coloursmearing, no weird edge-sharpening.
In fact the only positive about the 920 is its low-light "enlightenment" . But this unfortunately gives rather unatural looking photo's.
The pictures that you linked to were shot in pitch black outside and Steve clearly pointed out that the scenes depicted were deliberately choosen to asure the 920 would be better. They were to demonstrate the difference of the low-light enhancing technology o/t 920. There's no reason to show them here to demonstrate a malfunctioning camera-module. In fact I can show you pictures that show the superiority o/t 808 (even from that same site).

On these 2 examples you clearly see that the 808PV is better then the 920 (and the last scene should have been the 920's territory and yet it fails miserable)
Also the worse experience with software upgrades also happens on Lumia users. Some have the feeling that their camera's perform worse after their latest upgrade. It seems Nokia still FU this process just as any other manufacturer does.
Or do you really think that Xperia users (or Galaxy users or HTC users) have different experiences? the Apple fora are filled with people unhappy about the things that got broken after their last update.
I am glad that Nokia still delivers (minor) updates. I too would like to see Nokia give power users more options instead of removing them. Just like the awfull light grey theme. They should have included BOTH dark and light themes to give us CHOICE! The only thing we can do is ASK Nokia to release the dark theme as a seperate product/download. Or make a suitable theme ourselves. ;-)
the same with all the other options. In fact IMHO Wifi is NOT BORKED, I've never seen them advertize 5Ghz band and as for the browser, it IS very usefull. It's the only one with (limited) Flash support build in (Android has removed Flash support in later builds so who are you to complain) and is quite fast (just disable javascript to make it as fast as the Iphone 4S). That website creators can't build proper websites anymore without stupid javascript is not Nokia's fault, complain to the site-maintainers.
And as for Nokia's Lumia range of devices... they still can't do halve of what a N8 can do, even WITH a "borked" Belle Refresh...

Open letter to nokia

Its been a busy few weeks for nokia now and especially of late with Anna and the update.
Now nokia have announced belle,along with that a further 3 new handsets that have Belle on board.
Ok so a thread was started on anna the update that was available and then further updates and on top of that now we have a symbian belle thread.
The ANNA thread must be the biggest and the fastest thread that grew here on discussions of recent times with others following suit.
One thing ive noticed very much so is the inactivity of nokia employees participating or fulfilling peoples answers thats the whole point of people coming here is it not?
We see that the goood news is posted at first then after that we have issues and big issues by the looks of things.
Since these threads have been started there has been umpteen questions asked by your loyal nokia fans and they are left unanswered,you might see the odd comment.
What we do see is many posts edited throughout the threads in mention meaning they are been looked at but thats about it and edit and goodbye.
If these people in nokia drop in and edit a comment you would expect them to have some kind of proactive invovlement rather than editng posts and thats it.
As a whole i feel it would be better not only for the people that come here but for nokia as well it would make things much better if nokia employees and mods got involved more,rather than come in every now and then and edit or remove posts and make not statement on the issue at hand.
Its quite clear here that all people want is some support and answers understandably all these might not be at hand but yet a post to say so is better than no post at all and lets a thread grow and people getting angry as its quite evident now people are angry some very angry.
Nokia discussions is growing on a daily basis there is no doubt about that and long time folk here are aware of how the forum works.
Of late there is an increasing amount of new members here and they can see in these particular threads there is no answers for them yet threads are started pointing out this and that is now available yet its not and its easy to see why people are annoyed.
So what im asking for and im sure i can speak for many, is more of an input and maybe assign more people to the forum with some knowledge and good communication,to come here and be proactive and make it a nice place to visit,at the moment thats not really the situation.
As for the update situation im sure AGAIN i can speak for many is to stop the lottery update and release the update for everybody at once,not sure if thats totally possible but its something that can be looked into at the very least.
Again we now see an identical issue as before 3 new phones then followed by updates?

Anna was released on the X7 and E6 then the update it makes no sense imo.
Now we see 3 new handsets with belle then an update down the road again....
Currently the X7 and E6 is now behind on the update released recently this like taking two steps foward and 4 back.
Now we are seen the same again with the belle update and handset schedule.
I hope some answers can be also given to the issues with anna too as there seems to be many.
Any way thats it i hope this is clear and maybe we can look forward to some response rather than edit....

Nokia Poor Technical Support - Beware

I purchased this phone a week ago. I have a POP 3 email account that I connect to. I have 2 emails that I check. I check email on 2 laptops, 1 tablet, 1 phone. I found after a week that the Nokia 928 was deleting the emails from the server and that I could not get those emails once deleted on my other devices. (My 3 year old HTC Droid did not do this) I called Verizon service who sent me to Nokia. Nokia said it was not their problem and sent me to Microsoft. Microsoft said it was not their problem and sent me back to Nokia. I said no, it was a software problem and Nokia said they didn't make the software. I was sent to another phone number in Microsoft that turned out to be "Supplemental Parts" support and the guy said sorry he couldn't help me and DIDN"T know who I should call. Nokia "dropped" the call the first time when being transferred and I had to call back and go through the whole phone tree again. I'm certain the call was dropped by the customer agent because he didn't want to deal with this.
This all took about 45 minutes of ME having to make the calls and get shuttled back and forth. I finally called Verizon back and said I want my old phone back, which they did. I took the 928 back and got a full refund. BTW, the initial Verizon support person opened up the on-line manual, which I already had, and started reading out loud through the email setup section. That really instilled a sense of trust in me.
So, there are three problems here:
The Nokia 928 can't perform a simple years old email setup function
Verizon can't technically support the phone
Verizon is not taking charge of their support and is willing to send customers off to other "vendors". I feel Verizon should have taken this issue, chased it down for me, and gotten back to me with an answer.

Recently I started having the same issues - email being deleted from my e-mail service provider's server by Microsoft phone Lumia 928 & I could not even find the deleted emails under server's trash folder. I do not want my emails deleted by the phone.
I do not see any recommendations to correct this issue. Does that mean I need to delete POP e-mail accounts just to keep my e-mail on the server?? If yes then, the windows phone is not worth owning. To the best of my knowledge this is not an issue created by Nokia.
Currently I found an unefficient way to keep my emails on my email provider's server but then why do I need this phone if it is nothing but a problem? A Sync issue/bug???
It would be great if someone from Verizon and/or Microsoft could clarify this issue.

Nokia Trailers 1.3.31 - Network Problem, N8 Belle

Hi,
Updated to Nokia Trailers 1.3.31 a couple of days ago and as soon as I did the app no longer starts. Instead, I get "Network problem" and then it shuts down.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app to no avail.
Network is fine, wifi and 3g, all other apps (mail, fb, twitter, maps, foursquare, store, cutebox, etc) are working, so what's up with Trailers?

Fixed the problem with Trailers on my N8 last night by doing a format, hard reset and firmware reinstall via Nokia Software Updater.
This also fixed the problem I was having with Google Maps, Nokia Drop and Maps voice guidance via bluetooth to the car stereo.

Nokia Maps Problem, holes in the offline map

Hello
I habe a Nokia N9, updated to the newest Firmware (including the apps)
I downloaded offline maps for danmark and for austria but parts of the map are missing
(see attachment for DK, in the first picture you see the route from Aalborg to Hamburg (Germany)
there is a nice Highway but in the center parts of the map is missing so it routes me around it !!!!!!!
If you zoom for more details (picture 2) you see that a part is simple missing!!!
The same is for austria!!
I downloaded the maps several times, always with the same result...
somebody know whats going on?

Presumably you have tried both using Maploader upon N9 and Nokia Suite? When new mapping was released 17/12/2012 just followed advice to update existing ones, although do remember it timing out and have to re-start downloading process several times.
As map folder structure upon N9 remains the same as Symbian it would be possible to manually install decompressed .zip for particular region if all else fails. Whilst not aware of any problems with latest 00.02.47.103 map data upon N9, be aware that this update has caused issues for Symbian devices by crippling "Offline" navigation.

I'm using nokia E66 RM-343 , which is running the firmware version 510.21.009.
I know , nokia dropped support for symbian platform and currently working on wp8.

K...But the real prblm is, my phones previous firmware version was 410.xx.xx. And i updated it to current available ver 510.21.009.
After update , i noticed some prblmz, camera settings restore each time when using camera,
And also the main thing is the GPS. My GPS worked fine with firmware ver 410.xx.xxx . Before location lock within 30 sec or even less than a minute, but after update it struggles to get a fix on location even after 20 min. I used ovi maps, google maps, but it does not giving me the correct location. I hope if i can downgrade to previous ver , what can i do ??

Install the Nokia Store without a bunch of compute...

Can I install the Ovi Store program without connecting the phone to the only-Windows programs Nokia Suite and that strange Nokia Drop program? If I went to the website to download the Ovi Store, it requires that I hook my phone to the Nokia Suite to download it. If I wanted to download it on the phone via wifi using the Download to Mobile, it requires Nokia Drop, which again is a computer to phone connection. I even tried the SMS thing, to no avail.
Unless I'm missing something, it seems to me like a really bad designed system. Why I am forced to connect it to their Windows program just to install an application that is used to install other programs? I'm really disappointed with these handcuffs Nokia seems to use. If I were to say I don't have a Windows OS, am I left with no way of downloading Ovi Store?

If we look at the hardware on nokia phone, and compare with other company, nokia is still waaay behind.

people kinda get a bit confused over the term 'support' - support from Nokia only means software updates... in theory if they get it right, it won't need support but as with the N900, there probably will be a lot of community support.

All about Symbian Belle Problems.

Here are my full list of problems, suggestion i would like to keep infront of you.
I sent the problems via ''CONTACT US'' and to some Nokia employee via PM but they just can't....
No problem is solved in software update.
Of Course that's really tough though
Here is the list,
Just copied from the sent items.
Please neglect if something is repeated.
1.
1.Screen starts blinking when a new meassage arrives!
Screen starts blinking ( ON/OFF) continuosly sometimes after unlocking keypad when phone shows new message arrived. Screen blinks at the rate of 8-10 times per second. We need to press end key to stop it.
2. Brightness:
In indoors or in low light conditions after Light time-out the screen brightness should be reduced, but brightness increases!!?
When we touch the screen brightness reduces back to normal. This repeats again and again. That is why i have to increased light timout to 60 seconds to avoid disturbance to eyes.
Sometimes light sensor doesnot work at all outdoors while using maps.
3.Slowdown of phone.
Phone slows during and after installing or removal of sis packages.
I have lot of apps installed from Nokia Store.
4. Menu scrolling and appearance of icons in menu after installation:
When we have more games and apps installed , the menu won't scroll smooth. It strucks in between and jumps to last item.
5. Appearance of icons in menu after installing apps games takes half a minute! Ofcourse i have many apps and games installed.
6.
Side unlock key vibrations. Unlock key vibrations sometime won't vibrate. We need to goto profile and reactivate the profile. Maybe this is third party app problem.
7. Camera:
When shooting CRT TV, the screen is not stable. I can shoot without problem on my Nokia C3-00.
8. Camera hidden in background and runs continously:
Battery dries very fast sometimes, the day when i use camera, i use Best Taskman by Smartphoneware. You know what camera application will be still running in background SOMETIMES though long pressing menu key shows no Open applications!!
So camera will be sometimes running hidden even after closing it.
9. Touch screen answer key:
Touching answer key on screen won't work sometimes when there is a incoming call, apps, maps, or browsing.
Sometimes phone restarts when a call arrives at that time.
10. Connecting phone in mass storage mode.
When i connect my phone to computer in mass storage mode, it is obvious that all apps games which are installed on mass and memory card becomes unavailable,
but wallpapers applied from mass and memeory card will not be re applied to homescreen back as wallpaers once mass storage mode is changed or even after removing cable connected to pc.
We need to apply them manually again or we need to apply wallpapers from internal memory!
11.Widgets.
There is a problem with mail widget. We cannot scroll it continuously. When we scroll it once it scrolls and while scrolling if we continue to scroll again it won't scroll but stops scrolling. So one scrolling attempt after another makes the scroll stop!!
These are some problems and bugs present on Symbian belle on NOKIA 701.
Please solve them and provide software update.

Here are some more bugs and problems of Symbian Belle-Nokia 701.
1.Widget arrangement in landscape mode gets changed on its own automatically when a widget in portrait mode successfully fits but it couldn't in landscape. We'll be not knowing what happens in landscape mode widget arrangements!
It would be better to have auto arrangement of widgets when we move another widgets in the homescreen.
2.Brightness variation during video playback is bit annoying.
3. Music files are not actually arranged according to album name, albums are again differentiated by contributing artists.
So to group the songs of an album, We have to delete all the contributing artists of all the songs of that album or change the contributing artists name to a common name.
4.I don't know what happens when i swipe the album art while playing a song using music player on 701.
When i swipe from left to right for the first song of an album, the song plays from the beginning or restarts. When i swipe from right to left it plays the next song, and when i again swipe from left to right it plays previous song. Well i just don't use swiping on album. Because it is confusing.
5.When i connect my 701 in Ovi suite mode and browse files using Computer-Portable devices-Nokia 701-Mass Memory-Music folder and while the music player is playing music, it starts showing 'media transfer in progress' and it won't go even after closing the folder in the computer.
'Media transfer in progress' message appears specially when i enter music folder of the mass memory!!
So these are some more bugs and problems which i found again.

I have been taking photos of some pages.
What happens is that some images gets stored in landscape mode and some gets stored in portrait mode, though i kept the mobile in the same position while capturing. I think this is a problem with auto rotation. One more issue is with in-line editing, for example in opera mini. I we write something using prediction activated, we cannot move the cursor to previous word. To do this we need to deactivated prediction and we can move the cursor left or right towards desired words. I think this is maybe problem of 3rd party apps. This problem doesn't exists in other areas of phone like messaging. It's good. One more problem i have already sent to you is unlock or key vibration. When i remove the phone from charger the vibration doesn't work. We need to goto profiles and reactivate the profile again. Well these are some other problems i noticed in symbian belle of 701. Thank you. In love with Nokia.

Another issue is with editing contact. I cannot select the numbers easily to delete them or add some digits to theme. I cannot touch and scroll to move the editing page, i have use side scroller to scroll to bottom or top. Will post some more problems if found on Nokia 701. I hope that posting like this is not annoying to you. Thank you.

I was using wifi on my two phones today, C3-00 and 701. I have noticed that wifi was repeatedly disconnecting(There was less wifi signal) on my 701, C3-00 was accessing same wifi without any problems. Even if 701 connects for a while, speed was too slow, very less than my C3-00.
2.
Task switcher which takes snapshots of apps sometimes takes wrong snapshots when we long press home key. Will post if any issue with my 701. Thank you

I was using nokia drop application to install apps from ovi store.
It have installed many apps but two apps were taking much time to install so i pressed end key and ended the Nokia Store client,.
Now my menu icons and their names are interchanged, but when i add them to homescreen as shortcut it looks okay.

2. Game play slows down and there will be hanging effects in the game (Angry birds) during and after the email alert.
3.I don't know but i just couldn't find stereo video recording, i checked the with my earphones but couldn't find any stereo effect.
4. Nokia account signin confirmation appears on the screen whenever i boot to Homescreen. Maybe because of new Nokia store installation! But interesting thing is that the same Nokia login confirmation appears even after turning off the phone and after connecting the charger!!! Switching the phone off and connecting the charger should only display battery meter at right top of the screen, but the login confirmation appears at that time.
5. I had a YouTube icon in the menu. I just uninstalled it as u could play youtube via browsers itself. I later noticed that YouTube app was in Store. I downloaded it but i couldn't open it. On touching it just closes immediately. The interesting thing again is that you cannot open any Google mobile applications!!!! They just look like they are starting but gets closed immediately!! As youtube app in Nokia store!
6. Applications screenshots. Screenshots which appear after long pressing menu are sometimes the screenshots of the Homescreen!
7. File type icons in file manager are all look same for installation files like sis and java, office files etc.
8. It would be better to have Homescreen sort option for easy arrangement and automatic movement of other widgets when we move desired widget on other widgets wherever there is a place for movement. Well these were some of problems, bugs and some suggestions i found. I will post some more if find any. Thank you.

I found a new problem with the scroller in the gallery. When we touch the scroller and move it completely to the bottom,
the scroller moves down inside the option button!
So we cannot scroll back again! We need to touch the gallery images and scroll so that scroller comes above the option menu!
2.
Scrolling is pretty smooth compared to old software, but still seems some scrolling problem when there are more apps on the menu list!
3.
There should have been a simple text editor! Please provide text editor software in Nokia store or full version Office.
4.
Much of the productive softwares doesn't work in belle like Skype and even new updated joikuspot for example.
5.
There should have been a record option in the options while calling and 4 columns option for menu icons.
6.
Problem with the mailbox widget is not solved. Scolling continuously in the widget is not possible.
7.
Brightness problem when we set display light timeout is still there. After 5 seconds after light timout display should become less bright but it becomes more bright -Works correct under bright light and works reverse in low light!!
Don't think that Nokia 701 has lots of problems.
I don't think that these are very big problems but are bearable though.

The menu ket blinking without any reason is caused by standby breathing light. This can be solved by going to settings>phone>notification lights>standby breathing light>breathing light>off. If not found under settings then try looking for it at profiles but I believe that in devices running Symbian Anna or Nokia Belle it is found at settings but with the E-Series like E71 and the other E-series except E7 and other E-Series running on Symbian Anna or Nokia Belle it is foound at settings.
Under settings>phone>notification lights>notification light>blink light for, you can set a specific amount of time you want the light to blink when a new message or missed call arrives. Under settings>phone>notification lights>notification light>events notified, you can choose whether the menu key blinks when either a new message or a missed call arrives.
Hope that this solution will help you. I currently have a Nokia N8-00 and by changing that setting the menu key only blinks when a new missed call or new message arrives.

[Solution]How to restore Ovi Store, QT, Social and...

After the hard reset you need to perform first a Software Update.
Download from Ovi Store website the sis installer of WordPress and install it on phone (wordpress install also Nokia Smart Install and all QT and PIPS components)
Launch Ovi Store on phone: will be donloaded the sis installer and now will works without any error
Reinstall Social_1_2_update.sisx (there are a working link on this forum), because the preinstalled one has some grafic error (missing buttons)
Download again language and regional maps via OVI Suite.

Very well said. I have personally tried all methods after hard resetting my n8 and nothing has worked so far for me. I have installed Nokia QT package and followed all versions of various instructions on youtube to try and get back QT, QT mobility, webkit etc etc etc, but Ovi store wont install still. Keeps giving "Unable to install" error. Have even tried the Wordpress installation and even though you get QT webkit and nokia installer, Ovi store wont install still. The only workable (but possibly dangerous) method that seems to be working for others is using to flash the n8 yourself. But there are reports of bricked phones as well so have not tried this method myself. I'd rather have a working phone without Ovi store.
But one thing to note is the time it is taking nokia to address this issue, even though this issue was reported to them directly after n8 got released in 2010. Firmware v13 has been released and it didnt solve this problem either. Now the new leader of Nokia is stating that symbian is becoming increasingly harder to work with in terms of bringing new functionality to this ever growing and competitive mobile business. Makes us wonder that the inevitable will occur, i.e. Nokia dropping symbian finally and moving on to Android etc. Now that would be the biggest surprise for all of us who own Symbian^3 devices. Still waiting for PR 2.0 Nokia, if someones listening that is.............
