Nokia E50 Demand Paging

I own a Black Metal E50 without camera and I would like to know if the guys at Nokia plan to release a firmware with demand paging.
I was thinking of upgrading my E50 when I heard of E51, but I actually do not like the new design and the impossiblity to buy an E51 without camera.
When reading this forum I've come to think that the camera feature was perhaps the cause of all the problems encountered by many E50 users, since I have an E50-2 (version without camera) and I didn't have any major problems with it (I upgraded from firmware 6.43 to 7.36 lately).
This phone only real problem IMHO is its relative slowlyness and its absolute bad RAM management.
These two problems are adressed by the demand paging feature, and I think it really should be made available at least to all E-Series devices since these are business oriented (and business users DO NOT WANT to buy a new device every year...).

There was something on here a few days ago about the fact that cards can only have 1,000 files in a directory. I wonder if that could be the issue?
Do you have more than 1,000 music files in your music/digital folder? If you do, try creating 2 or more sub-directories (using Phone Browser) and moving the files into those.

  • Memory issues - Bring demand paging to X6.

does anyone at nokia remember a few years ago a firmware update that added demand paging to N95 and enabled the phone to do multi-tasking properly without having always memory issues? Please bring it to the X6. It's frustating to run only one app (in this case, opera mobile) and having memory warnings always poping up... After a fresh start of the phone.

The numbers below were constantly moving as I copied them so they're not exact but here's what task manager reported. Funny thing is that it always seems to show around 3 GB available.

I just saw that OEM was advising "Increase the size of the SGA by setting the parameter "sga_target" to 10752 M"

  • Demand Paging for E-Series

When will nokia develop new firmware with demand paging for e-series devices like e61i, e65 and e90 ? we already know that n95 has demand paging. Even n73 has it in the latest firmware. This had sped up n73 tremendously (note: n73 is older than most e-series & it does not have wifi)
    so my question is :
    1) is demand paging exclusive for n-series ?
    2) will future versions of firmware for e-series devices have
    demand paging ?
    3) will there be new versions of firmware for e-series devices as
fast as nokia has developed new firmware for n-series
almost every 3-6 months for each n-series model.

    Jaakko Kaidesoja

N73 will be one of the mobiles supporting the new n-gage platfrom
    http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/N-Gage/N-Gage+(next+gen+platform)/news.asp?c=5917
The N82 and both N95 handsets will be next in line for the commercial launch, but bad news N73 owners: you're going to have to wait a while.
"We promised the N73 earlier, but we found some memory issues, as it has a lower memory spec than other devices," says Kaidesoja. "That gives some headaches, but we'll deal with that, and will release for the device during the second quarter."
so clearly from here we can understand that something drastic is going to be done to the n73 yet again... to support the new n-gage platfrom and improve its performace.... why these improvements are never made to the e-series ?
PS : can anyone enlighten me on the processor specs for both n73 and e61i...

  • SOLUTION to NOkia E50 SPeakerphone/Loudpeaker Free...

My Nokia E50 everyday would sometime or other on taking a call, automatically get on the LOUDSPEAKER mode and get frozen or hang. Nothing would let me switch it back. I would have to remove the battery only.
Well the speaker phone bug I seemed to fix a while back. I hope it works for you too !
I was pulling my hair out trying different things to stop it from hanging on the loudspeaker mode automatically on taking a call !
I tried everything from changing the memory card, using no memory card, updating the firmware ! and also CHANGING the phone to another E50. But the problem was always there... Until...
    I just did...
I changed the RINGTONE of LINE 1 from the default Ring tone to another ring tone AND also I changed the The ring tone on line 2 to a different one !in other words both LINE 1 and LINE 2 now have Different ring tones and none of them have the Default tone !
Since then my phone behaves properly and no freezing for over a year now 1
So I guess you guys can try it and circulate this info with others too
    Cheers - CYRUS !

When using a 4G/LTE enabled phone in countries where 4G/LTE networks are not yet deployed or still under construction, there may be issues with calls, SMS, or data connection. In worst cases the phone SIM may be rejected by the network.
In line with this, when a Nokia Lumia 920 is purchased in a country where 4G/LTE network is not yet enabled by the operator, the devices will be shipped pre-configured to 3G network connectivity to avoid these problems.
If 4G/LTE networks become available later, it is possible to enable the capability with an over-the-air software update. However, I am sorry to say that there is no information on when this particular over the air software update will become available for a specific device.

  • Help on Nokia E50 please!

    Hi,
I have Nokia E50 but i need to learn how to use it with bigger typing-writing format.
My fathers eyes cannot see well so i need to set his Nokia E50 for bigger characters.
    Help me pls.
    Thank you.

I do not know about the E50 but being a S60 3rd edition like my E60 should be equal. If my assumption is correct there is no way to increase font size. I was posting this issue long ago but no feedback for resolution from Nokia developers. The only way to partially resolve this is to use applications that allow you to select font. I'm using Best Full Screen caller for ID's and Papyrus as calendar. For messages and mail no application with font size selection available so far. If somebody has got more for messages and mails please post.

  • Flash Lite 2.1 install on Nokia E50

Just did a Flash Lite 2.1 install on Nokia E50 after I
downloaded flashlite2_1_symbian_s60V3 and it installed apparently
fine with Nokia installer. However any .swf with test content
published to Device Central gets a corrupted file message after I
try run the .swf on the E50. The docs say the E50 should be
supported by this Flashlite version above.
    Any ideas?
    thanks
    Colm

    Alessandro,
Yes, I see now another Flash Lite 2.1 player installed not
under media but under menu. Starting it allows me to browse my
Flash Lite 2.1 files and they display fine.
Next up, I must try to get Flash Lite 3, but developer
    applications for Flash Lite 3
have closed afaik. Does anybody know where/when/if/how a
Symbian edition Flash Lite 3 player can be got to test on a Flash
    Lite 2.1 player phone?
    thanks again!

  • Nokia E50, issues with connecting and managing mes...

    Hi
I'm using Nokia E50 and Nokia PC Suite for a few years now on. Recently I wanted to do my usual maintenance task: copy all messages to PC and delete them from the phone. Issues start here.
At first I had problems with connecting but finally I manage to do it. After dozens of tries PC Suite finally updated contact list. Then I moved to messages tab. It took a while to download all messages (aprox. 700 in inbox, 600 in sent - I had many more few times before when everything was working ok). I can copy them to PC, but I can't delete them. After selecting message(s), trash icon is grayed out (menu item too). I can read message but can't delete it. Why?
I've downloaded latest version of Ovi to see if that would help. Ovi managed to download contact list (after a loong waiting) but failed to download any message. Messages says that it's trying but after one hour nothing happend.
I'm trying this on 2 different machines (Windows 7 and Windows XP), with cable and blue tooth. Efects are always the same. Phone is connected because I can copy files, but when I'm trying to download messages or do backup, software says phone is not connected or tries to copy data with no luck.
    Any hint will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Marooned

After deleting aprox. 150 messages from Inbox and from Sent, both programs were able to download complete list of messages and PC Suite finally reenabled trash icon.
Seems like too much messages causes those program to fail? And why in the past they were working properly with bigger amount of messages?
Well.. one can say "problem solved" but will reappear again in the future with lots of messages. I need to remember to grab them from the phone more frequent.

  • Nokia E50 problem

Since yesterday I've been having a strange problem with my Nokia E50. The problem is as follows:
When an SMS message arrives, I don't hear any sound (even though it is set in the profile). In addition the "1 new message" prompt does not appear on the screen. The only thing that warns of a new message is the blinking light on the keyboard.
This problem happened to me twice. The first time, I had to load the latest version of the Nokia E50 software. It fixed the issue for half a year. Now the same problem happened again. Is something wrong with my phone?
    Thanks,
    Darcorn

Have the same problem with a N73. It seems that the phones branded by a certain network do not receive FW upgrades because the original software is modified to suit that perticular network requirements.

  • Different IMEI in Nokia E50?

I hope someone can help me.
I am Spanish, living in Shanghai, China, and my boss from Spain recently gave me a Nokia E50 that he got from Orange with points. Since I couldn't use it here with a different operator, I took it to a Nokia booth at Babaiban (a very good commercial centre) to unlock it. After some days they returned it to me saying that this cellphone was too complicated. Then I investigated on the web and learnt that this is true, it is a complicated phone that can only be unlocked via IMEI, but when I went to check the phone IMEI, it was a number ending with ? (question mark) that didn't look anything like the imei in the sticker under the battery. This is bad, because now I cannot even upload applications via the PC suite...
I guess that the people at the booth touched something (well that's obvious, I gave them a phone in Spanish and they returned one in Chinese) but now I read somewhere that the IMEI cannot be changed...
Anyway, my cry for help goes beyond this. I want to take the phone to a genuine Nokia Care Centre, but the Nokia website for China is in Chinese, with no option in English (nokia people, you should do something about this, there are maaaany expats here). So can anybody help me:
    a. Find a Nokia Care Centre in Shanghai
    b. Change my E50's IMEI to its original
    Thank you!
    Julio

    My Nokia phone details as:
    Nokia E50
    IMEI:
    Product code '0536259' =
    FCC ID: PDNRM-170
    IC: 661R-RM170
    MADE IN FINLAND and
    Downloaded latest sw version '07.36.0.0'
I have updated 18 Dec 2010 and after automaticatically restarting the phone died, then it recovered by private centre; now power is after 1 or 2 minutes, so I check the IMEI by pressing *#06# and then it says number is: 12345610654321?
I need help in this matter so that the IMEI nuber is reverted as:
    Thanks,

  • Nokia E50 Speaker Phone Audible Beep

On the Nokia E50 there are a couple of things that I was wondering if anyone has learned how to tackle. First, when switching to Speaker Phone, is there any way to keep it from making the audible beep when you press the Speakerphone button?
This is problematic for me for two reasons: First, when you dial voice mail, you have to wait until the mobile carrier's voice mail system answers to switch to Speakerphone...but when you do, that audible beep that the E50 makes when activating the speakerphone causes my phone provider's voice mail system, Cingular, to go back to the "main menu" instead of just going into the first recorded voice mail message as it should. In other words, the sound that the E50 makes is being heard on the other end by the mobile carrier's system and is responding to it by sending me back to the main menu.
Second, people can hear the audible beep when you switch to Speakerphone. So, they know when I put them on speakerphone, which always causes an interruption in the conversation. I would love to be able to make that noise go away. IS THERE A WAY TO DO THIS?
The other thing that bothers me is that when I get one voice mail, the phone displays, "New Message." When I get a second voice mail, the phone displays "3 messages." Three messages, it displays "6 messages." When it gets to nine actual messages on Cingular's voice mail system, my phone displays "72 messages." Any ideas on what is going on or how to resolve that problem?
Otherwise I love the phone. Best phone I have ever owned!
    Thanks.

If they replaced the mic and now it isn´t working properly, you should go back there and make them fix it. At least that´s what I would do...
By clicking the "Kudos!" or the "Solution?" button on the right you can say "Thank You" and you´ll show the author and others that the post is useful.
The day we stop improving is the day we stop being good.

  • Nokia E50 Hangs On Call Receive !

My friend and I bought 2 nokia E50 Handsets and face the same problem.
Atleast once in 3 days when I receive a call with the Green button, the loudpspeaker gets actiavted on its on and then the handset hangs. No pressing of any buton will help and I am compelled to remove the battery and restart the cell phone.
So I decided to use the Nokia Software (firmware) updater so I could re-install the software.
But the nokia updater only says that there is no later version thatthe current one. Sure there must be some way of installing the software again even though we still have the latest version. How is that done ? is ther an code we can use to reformat the handset and then use the nokia updater to install it ? Please reply.
    Thanks Cyrus !

Ridiculous. I went from a trusty 6230 to this piece of junk, all in the name of Blackberry.
This phone has to be the slowest, lumpiest, worst executed piece of technology I've ever owned. The flickering as the OS refreshes the screen as you navigate is unbelievable. Blackberry only half works. And this, loudspeaker-broadcast-the-conversation thing is the icing on the cake. I'm only happy to see I'm not alone.
I hope someone at Nokia is monitoring this, becuase this is bad, real bad. Did they actually test the phone at all before shipping it?
Bethri, i know the "loudspeaker-broadcast-the-conversation" as you call it is **bleep**py. But it's really not fair to compare Symbian to Nokia series 30 software. It's comparing a smartphone to a regular phone. Sure is much slower and ehhhhhhh well....... you're right! Sorry Nokia. You guys just did a poor job on this one. Sure it can happen, but what's taking soooooooooo long to bring out a fix!Message Edited by ajak on 16-Nov-2006

  • Loohing For "Sun demand paged SPARC" file format

    Gentle People:
I am looking for information on the
"Sun demand paged SPARC" file format.
Apparently this is not the same as
ELF, since and ELF Reader cannot read
    it.
Specifically I would like to find the
file format specification or at least
the appropriate .h file defining the
structures. I am thinking of something
    similar to elf.h.
BTW I have already tried the likely
sources such as Sun documentation, the Sun
web site, and a search of my *.h files
    or maybe I missed something.
Is this file format anything like or
similar to ELF? Will knowledge of ELF be
    of any help?
Dose anyone know of any software tools
to analyze or disassemble files of this format
    Thanks for the help.
    Thomas Dineen

I don't think such format exists - please double check your
source - it might be a typo or copy and paste error.
