NOKIA E51 - Is it possible to search contacts in a...

I have a new Nokia E51, very great device, but I have to manage 2243 contacts (!). The (new) actual searching contacts way is just crazy for me: if I try to write the word john... the phone shows me hundreds of contacts with that part of word.
I'd like to know if there is a way to set the phone so to search contacts using names in the usual alphabetical order: just writing the first letter, than the second ,the third, and so on?
Somebody on this forum suggested to use Text-Quick (http://mind-flip.com/textquick/index.html) but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work in that way, but just keeping memory of more searched contacts.
It is really really annoying the way it searches.
Help please!
Somebody else on this forum said It is a bit counter intuitive at first, but once you get used to it the wider search is actually much better than the first name search (particularly if your memory for names isn't too great) but what you can do if you have thousands of contacts?
There will be soon an alternative option in the contacts settings for next E51 firmware?
Thank you

You wanna know the weirdest thing...
In my E51 it DOESN'T search for any string even in the middle.. it only searches alphabetically on the first name or the last name. But not something in the middle.
HOWEVER, other applications that show the contact list, such as Fring, *DO* search on any in-between string.
So apparently the phone can do both.. I don't see it as a setting though.
As a personal preference I think I would prefer being able to search for any in-between string.. I mean to me it just seems like a natural transition from the old days when contact names were in SIM memory and you only had like 8 characters to enter someone so you ended up with loads of "John K", "JLee" and other cryptic but short names.
These days I would recommend that if your contact is called "John Samolowicz" to actually spell that out in the appropriate fields. Then you find someone instantly by searching for something more unique than his first name...
AND/OR use the 'Groups' feature: If you put people in groups then simply moving to the tab to the right from the contacts list would give you a much reduced list of people in a particular group; Don't tell me that you actually CALL 2000 people on a regular basis..
To search middle string, use the SEARCH from OFFICE Folder. You can find on the Contact part of search result.

  • Nokia 5230 two page keyboard to search contacts

What I always found quite annoying is the keyboard in portrait mode (the one with letters). When you open the contact list from the start screen, the keyboard only has the letters a to o, the letters p to z are on a second page.
But whe you open the contact list when you type a new text message, the keyboard has all the letters on one screen.
What's the difference? Is it a bug? Can I solve it myself?

Can't Nokia solve it? It's possible! And the weird thing is that they did it correct in the contact list from the messages.

  • Searching contacts for making calls very difficult...

I just found a quite annoying issue which could be easily fixed by simply moving some UI stuff around.
When you want to make a phone call, you click on the phone app (phone icon) and you see the phone calls history list together with few buttons. I want to find a sample contact name, let's say 'Chuck Norris Junior' I click on the search icon, type 'Chuck' but as a 'Chack Norris' is my good friend and I call him regularly, there's like 300 history entries named 'Chuck Norris' which show up and I need to scroll the whole list down to finally see the 'Search contacts' link.
this is very annoying - to the Nokia TEAM - please consider moving the 'Search Contact' link to the top of the screen so it's before the call history list and not on the bottom of it. This would make searching contacts much easier in many cases!

hmmm I could use People.. I suppose.. Just realised there's a phonebook icon beside 'search' one which gets you to the people app. The 'search' one was just the most intuitive way of starting searching contacts..
But to be honest I got rid of the People app from my home screen and would ideally totally remove it if I could, I really don't like the fact that all my recent activity is listed there and can't be removed. Eg I browse someone on facebook or talk on skype and this person automatically shows on top of my 'recent' list! that's very annoying if you don't want your whole activity to be tracked and displayed.

You can't sync the Nokia with your iPad but you can share files using Dropbox.

  • How do I search contacts by a field other than name (e.g. category)?

I recently switched from Blackberry to iPhone 4, and I use my iPhone 4 primarily for business. I have a PC and use Outlook as my contacts application.
I regularly populate my Outlook contact records with various notes, and I regularly categorize my contacts. With Blackberry I could (and regularly did) search my contacts by fields other than by contact name (e.g. words which I had entered into fields such as Notes, City, State, Company, or Category, and this was very useful. For example, if I created a category called "Accountants" and categorized 3 contacts in that category, I could search my contacts for "Accountants" on my Blackberry and it would show a list of the 3 contacts I have who are Accountants. Or if I wanted a list of all contacts who reside in Chicago so that I can put together a slate of meetings during a visit to Chicago, I could search my contacts for "Chicago" and the search would result in a list of all my contacts with "Chicago" in their record (either in location, category, or notes fields).
With iPhone 4, so far I've only figured out how to search the name fields of my contact records, but hopefully it is possible to search other fields or the entire contact record. How do I do that?
    Thanks.

  • E71 how to search contact by phone number

    Hi All,
any idea for E71 how to search contact by phone number? sometimes it will be useful if  i can just type in the phone number and it show me the contact name
    Thanks

There is no way to do that directly from Home Screen, however you can always get in the "Search: Internet and My Content" application, choose contacts and start to type phone number. You will get what you want.
    Enjoy!

Is it possible to do something like that in E51? There is no such option in menu.

    Hi Sarabjeet,
The XML iView uses server-side fetching, so if you are having problems with a regular URL iView in server-side fetching mode, so the problem with the XML iVIew probably has to do with the proxy settings.
And since you got a 407 error, it seems there is an issue with proxy settings or the proxy server, as mentioned in this description of 407 error:
The HTTP 407 code only applies to users who are accessing the Internet behind a proxy server. This is common in government and corporate workplaces. The 407 code indicates that your computer must first authenticate itself with your company's proxy server. Check with your IT department or computer support group as to the exact reason why you may be getting this error. It may be possible that the proxy server does not allow downloads of specific files (exe, cab, com). You can also verify that your proxy server settings are valid.
I will check if I can find out any more specific info.

  • Is it possible to export contacts from google acco...

    Hi!
Is it possible to export contacts to C3-01.5 from google account as VCF file? I tried, but phone can't find the .vcf file from PC if I have opened folder there the file should be!??
It is very unhandy to enter all 350 contacts to Nokia manually.
    Please help!
    Thank You!

What you can try is.. Install Nokia Suite on your PC.. Then open the suite and go to Contacts-->File-->Import contacts..and select the the .vcf files .. The Contacts, once imported should be visible in the Nokia Suite ..Now connect the phone to PC and select all the Contacts in the Nokia Suite and Drag-and-Drop on the Phone Icone at the Bottom .. Check if the Contacts are now stored on your Phone ..

  • Searching contacts problem..... Please Help

I am new in Blackberry Support Community Forums.
I have Blackberry 8800 and about 15 days ago I had added a Very Important Contact. Now I had forgotten everything only I can remember is I had added Category as Friends and I am not able to search that contact in friends as I have about 500 contacts saved as friend. So is there is any other way to search this contact as it is very urgent..
Please help me. Can I search recently added contacts as this happens most times with me..

There is no option for Searching Recently Added Contacts in Blackberry.
But this is possible only if you install Zebrost Phonebook (ZPB) Software from Blackberry App World.
It enables to search contacts in all fields, for example you had added category as friends so you can also search in Friend Category and we can also search the recently added contacts.
For example if you want to search contact saved by you recently, then go to zpb in your Blackberry and go to Options>> Show Contacts>> Recently Added or you can directly type #a15 for searching contact  in last 15 days, similarly if to want to search for the contacts saved in last month then just type #a30.
Try ZPB as it is available for free of cost.
    All the best.

  • NOKIA E51 Camera

    Hi to all,
I would like to ask regarding the screen display, when using the camera of Nokia e51.
Camera can be accessed by the following.
    1. press menu
    2. select media
    3. select camera
Positioning the phone vertically, what I have is, the phone screen is divided into 3.
At the top, is the camera icon with a word camera. Under the word camera, is the word image. At the left is the signal bar and at the right is the battery bar.
At the middle is the camera screen (with a size close to half the size of the overall phone screen).
At the bottom shows a horizontal bar for camera tool bar,
(note that even when the tool bars are hidden, the horizontal bar is still there) the word options at the lower left and the word exit at the lower right.
Is the camera screen here normal?, Is it possible to have it at full screen?
I already tried the options but, there's nothing there to adjust.
I am not much interested in the camera, but I would like to know if got a buggy unit.

  • Possible to Delete Contacts?

Sorry if this has been answered already--I couldn't find it in a search... Is it possible to delete Contacts without deleting music, etc. (a total reset)? Every time I synch I get another copy of the same contacts. I don't think this is true synching as it seems to be a one-way transfer from the computer. I have duped contacts on my iPod. Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Gecko. The second solution worked. I would imagine I'll have to do this before every Contacts synch since the "Enable for Disk Use" is checked and greyed out--can't undo it. Any idea how I can uncheck it? Maybe it's "checked" because I have photos on the iPod?

You might want to take a note of these issues before you decide (if you haven't already):
    1. There is no USB charging support. You cannot connect your phone to the USB port of your PC/Laptop and let it (re-)charge. I just don't understand why Nokia fails to provide this simple, yet very useful feature.
    2. Leaving the phone continuously on Wlan connection just drains your battery. So, better leave it hooked to the charger while it is connected to wlan.
Well I never had a phone where I could charge with the USB to be honest, and I don't think its that much of a hassle to take the charger with me if I know ill be gone a while.
And I have a couple of devices that use Wlan and I always switch it off when I don't use it, and in case I talk on skype on this phone (can last a couple hours easy) then I would just put it in the charger
BTW I like to charge my phone every night (and just leave it on for months really) what would be better for the phone itself (this one)
oh and thanks for telling me
