Nokia E71s default browser selection?

Can I choose say Opera Mobile to be the default browser on my E71 or am I stuck with opening the Nokia browser everytime for example when I wanna connect to a link from SMS? Strange that the difference in browsers quality can be so big..

The built-in browser is default.

  • E71 default browser does not open links

    Hello everybody,
I am facing this strange behavior on my E71 default browser.
Say that I go to the google page and look for something, e.g.. Java.
I click the search button and the browser displays a list of results.
However, when I click on any of the links, the browser does not open it!!!
I also need to mention that it used to work some time ago. Unfortunately I am able to tell you what I have done/installed in order to break it.
Any ideas would be appreciated. My firmware is updated to the latest E71 available: 501.21.001
Thank you very much and kind regards,
    Marius

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 22.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

    I know the way.
I don't have that phone now but
I'll try to tell you a trick to use 2700c's default browser.
Go to music player, in options you'll find downloads, in that options you'll find rtsp://
here you just delete rtsp:// and just type any url you like. Ex: www.m.opera.com.
    There you solved your problem.
Actually using default browsers consumes more data. Use opera mini or Nokia browser instead. They can open large pages with less data.
    Hope this helps.

  • Nokia E71 Manual Network selection Problems

    HI
I have the E71 on the Three network and it allows roaming in this country (something thats usually locked off) to avoid roaming charges I went to change the phones network select option from Automatic to manual, I get the usual pop up to select the network I want to connect to but when I go back to the network options screen it shows as automatic and does indeed allow roaming. How do I actually change to manual network selection.
    Cheers

I can't believe that Nokia have not resolved this problem.
The problem gives a direct influence on the cost of calls, which is very excessive.
I spent 3 hours on the phone to Three to try to resolve the problem and nothing worked. Tried removing sim card and putting it back in, factory reset and hard reset.
For a regular traveler this phone is a nightmare. Call charges can range from £0.25p to £1.50 and 0.12p to 0.25p. Also call charges may be applicable in the UK depending on your network provider.
Quite simply not fit for its purpose. A mobile phone by definition is "a hand-held mobile radiotelephone for use in an area divided into small sections, each with its own short-range transmitter/receiver provided by a specific network carrier".
Unfortunately the phone does not meet this definition. Under the Trade Descriptions Act of 1968 should be entitled to a refund as customers have been mislead by the sale of the handset. Also the phone directly misleads roaming customers.
Also under the Sale of Goods Act of 1979 the mobile phone should be "fit for purpose". Unfortunately the E71 is not fit for purpose as a mobile phone does not meet its definition and as a customer the network provider does not provide a fair service carried by the network. Most networks are contractually bound to do so.
If you have a problem with this phone please contact Nokia or your provider to try to resolve the problem and push the new firmware as soon as possible!

  • How can I open links on a page loaded with Firefox in my default browser (Mac Safari) instead of Firefox?

I don't want Firefox to be my default browser, but I do want to use it for certain things. When I do use it, if there's a link on a web page, it doesn't respect my default browser selection which is Safari (Mac). It always opens the link in Firefox. This makes me not want to use it at all. Can I fix this?

Do you manage to connect to internet at all? Are you trying to connect to your operators network or wifi, or both?
Have you made sure that you're connecting to the right destination folder? Check within browser - settings. If your accesspoints are saved under "internet" you will have to make sure it connects to internet. If you haven't tried wifi, and do not have the option too, call your operator and hear if they have issues with their network or if they have disbaled data use from your account.

  • Despite my selecting Firefox as default browser, any link clicked goes to open IE browser, but that too does not open and sends an error message. Please advise.

I installed a HP printer on my desktop. To do this I had to temporarily discontinue some services (start/run/services.msc). The printer was installed successfully, but IE got currupted, it seems. Any link clicked went to IE instead of my default browser Firefox, but IE too would not function.
Please advise what may have happened and how do I correct it?

{Ctrl + P} and select your printer in the Printer - Name box near the top of that window.

  • How do I select a *Default* Browser?

    Hello!
I have several browsers (IE 5.1.7, Mozilla 1.2.1, Opera 6.0.3) that I use for various reasons. I also use Eudora 6.1.1 for email. When I click on links within email documents (identified as http://... using the *Blah Blah* button), one of the browsers opens randomly (well, not quite. IE occurs about 50%, Mozilla and Opera about 25% each). I haven't discovered any pattern.
Is it possible within OS 9.1 to select A default browser that will always open automatically in this situation?
I will appreciate any help! TYIA!!
    Bill

    Hi, Bill -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
There is a setting for that. Open the Internet control panel, go to the Web tab. At the bottom of that page is the setting for default browser.

  • Change Default browser, Nokia E6 Belle

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to Belle, is there any way to open links from email with Opera, not default browser.
The settings->Default Apps is not working.
Can I expect fixing of this problem soon?
    Thanks
Moderator's note; Corrected post title and removed corrective post.

Well, I am Nokia  500 user and I have exactly the same problem. Default browser settings are simply ignored in Belle. Previously I have used Symbian Anna and there Opera Mobile was set (by me) as default browser and it was working as expected - means links opened from email client were opened in Opera. After upgrading to Belle, Opera Mobile still can be set as default browser, but this setting is simply ignored.
I am not so sure if it is Opera developers fault, otherwise why it was working on Symbian Anna ???
If nokia programmers have changed some standards (if they did - I do not have such knowledge) they should also support some backward compatibility. From my point of view (user point of view) it is simply regression. I have also reported this problem to Nokia Care without any result and response. Since that time I am checking updates regularly and instead reasonable fixes I got several minor updates related to social networking or alike . It is frustrating.
In fact currently I am not even sure who should I bother with this problem, Nokia developers or Opera developers ?

  • I have to use explorer for one business app and need to not have a default browser. How do I de-select firefox as my default browser?

I have had firefox as my default browser for some time, but I have a business associate that has features not accessible by firefox - only explorer. How do I de-select firefox as my default browser so I can use explorer without being redirected to firefox (and vice versa of course)?

    # Open Safari
    # Select Preferences from the Safari menu
    # In the General tab, use the default web browser drop-down menu to select the browser you want as default

  • How to change the E71's default browser?

Even though the E71's default browser is not bad at all, I prefer using Opera Mini.
An example: the page [http://www.sei.cmu.edu/productlines/about_pl.html] just doesn't render ok in my E71 when using the default browser. The entire left side of the page doesn't show up. Needless to say that Opera Mini renders it nicely.
So, my question is: how do I change the browser used by the phone by default?
    Bruno Unna
    Public key available.

For the site you list in your link, open it with the default browser, and then zoom to 50%.  It almost looks right.
There are a lot of sites that the default browser, and even Opera Mini 4.2, do not render properly.

I want to choose my browser - Firefox for Gmail and other uses, Internet Explorer for Outlook.

    Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs<br />
"Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser"
Check the default settings in:<br />
