Nokia E72 + GPRS connections.

I have a nokia e72 on which i have configured Mail for exchange. I seem to be having issues with downloading E-Mails instantly on my phone. i did a bit of testing and went into the connectin manager and within that Active connections. i see a Mobile office connection that is established, but when i press the "Z" button to sync my E-Mails, the mobile office connection log shows that GPRS keeps fluctuating from active to inactive. E-Mails that are sent to me dont get downloaded immediately.. but aftr a delay and its all the time. is there a way around to get this thing resolved. i tried setting up edge which can stay on constantly but i dont know how to do it. right now. i have given the phone to the nokia care centre. please help me. i love the phone but cant be without E-Mails..

Same problem with me. Did u get any solution? Plz help.

  • GPRS Connection problem with Nokia 6230i

    Hi All,
I am using the GPRS activated Vodafone sim for Nokia 6230i.
I am not able to access the GPRS connection from my J2me application, it’s always shows me that "Subscribe GPRS first" but its already activated.
When i change the sim & checked with nokia N-72, my application started working fine & able to make the proper http communication.
    What could be the problem?
Do i need to do some extra settings for Nokia 6230i?
Is Nokia 6230i having some problem while accessing HttpCommunication ?
    Please suggest me.

Getting a gprs connection on series 40 phones is very difficult. You first need to create your own access point based on the gprs settings for the network you are using. You do this in settings -> Configuration -> Personal configuration settings -> add new
    I use the settings from
    http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
When you have entered in the data, press back and select preferred access point and select the one you created.
I think then you should be able to use gprs in your application
    I test with google maps

  • Nokia E72 with no hotmail connection

    Hi,
I have a nokia e72 and I want to delete the two hotmail mailboxes on my phone because they do not work since january 27 2011. Why no idea. Now I want to delete them but I cann't because I have no connection. The phone says, you need to have connection first before deleting? Can anybody help?
I also need to setup my hotmail.com connection again. Can anybody have an idea what the new mail server are or are they still the same and what are the exact settings. Because I changed so much on my phone. I think I do not have the right settings anymore.
I run 052.005 software on my phone.
    Anton

Try these settings: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/4026-nokia-n97-configure-your-email#hotmail-account-settings It's the same I have except for the accespoint of course.
    Pop3 port should be 995
    smtp should be 25.
Check what the default is first and try both if they aren't the same.
If that does not work, it might be that your ISP has blocked a port.
Take a look here too and see if you can get it going again:http://techblissonline.com/hotmail-pop3-and-smtp-settings/

  • Nokia E72 Nokia Music issue

Hi.. I purchased a E72 and activated GPRS on it. I also got a 25 track  free download voucher. I was able to download 12-15 tracks from my phone. However when I Got to Media--Music Store. It tries to connect thru GPRS, however instead of getting regular page to search songs etc, it gives a web page with message that this device is not currently supported. It also gives me a website to check what all phones are supported. I called Nokia care line, but they were of no help. Instead they todl me to uninstall and reinstall ovi player on my phone. I tried to do that but there is no such option to do that and Ovi player is not listed as an app to be uninstalled. Please help me to understand why I am unable to download any tracks from Nokia music now where as I was able to do that earlier. I have also tried to select other access points for GPRS but no help. I can browse Ovi store and download apps from there. I can also browse other web sites on my Phone.

Storage of up to 1000 contacts (depending on available memory).. as per phone specification..

  • Nokia E72 Internet Problems.

I'm not all too clued up on phones, but I'm having a problem with the internet on my Nokia e72. When I click internet, I want it to ask me how to connect (WLAN, GPRS etc.), but despite the fact I have set it to do so, it always connects via my home wifi. It's frustrating, because it tries to do so even when I'm out, and I want it to connect via Orange GPRS, and it means that I can't use my internet when I'm out. Help?

    @Emma93
Go to Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings > Connection > Destinations > Internet - you want WLAN = Priority 1 - is Orange GPRS = Priority 2? If you want to change order highlight access point go to Options > Organise > Change priority - highlight position you want it moved to and press centre of "D" pad to make it move.
When you get to know your E72 better there is an application Smart Connect where you can also prioritise access point for use by applications marked in screenshot:

  • Need help on Nokia e72

    Hi,
I bought a Nokia e72 two weeks back. Dont have much problems with it. Its a great phone The only problem i see here is with battery life. Before the phone release it was said that the phone will have 11hr of battery back on call. I was expecting the baterry to stand for 3+ days with normal usage, but i am really disappointed by nokia it hardly goes for 2+ days.
Any one have any trick to make the battery stay longer or any way to handle the phone which will keep the battery well. The second problem i see with phone is the GPS does not seem to be working. but when i use some external application that uses gps, it works. I am using google maps which works awesome.
I will keep posting for any new problem encountered.
One more big queestion is that , when the new firmware will get released, how do we install it on phone, do we loose data on phone, do we loose any functionality ?
Can a firmware resolve the battery issue??
anyways. a little help from me.
I found a nice site where we have many free awesome softwares for nokia e71. www.getjar.com
every possible software is available here. just set your phone model, and the site will have everything compatible to the phone. Nice web site, I really liked it
Some one please help with battery issue

WLAN uses less power than 3G on most phones and particularly on the E72 which has a great autonomy with WLAN.
    Here's the official spec:
    - GSM 12 h 30 min
    - WCDMA 5 h 54 min
    - VoIP 13 h 42 min
    (VoIP uses WLAN)
The problem is however that the phone does not always close the 3G connection when you come under the WLAN connection. I then have to do this manually otherwise it drains the battery.
hint: if you don't always need the speed of 3G (like if you only use email for ex) you can set your  phone to use EDGE/GPRS instead. That's how I survive a full day of push  mail on other devices that don't have that great BP-4L 1500 mA battery of the Eseries. Control Panel -> Settings -> Phone -> Network -> GSM (instead of Dual mode)
Really? That's very strange. When I text chat with Nimbuzz over WLAN my battery seems to go down much quicker than
when I do the same over 3G. I suppose it could be something in the way Nimbuzz handles the connection/data.

I do this all the time and I don't get why there's no automatic management or at least preference-setting per application for this. When text chatting I really don't need the 3G. Only really for voice chat or internet or something like that. It seems to me phones could last for days longer if there was a clever way of managing this. Certainly my E51 used to drain in a little over a day with the 3G on, while it easily lasted 3 days without. It seems a really easy way to blow the competition to bits if you can have smart power/connection management.

  • It´s possible to use the "Remote" app with Itunes and a Nokia E72 with Joikuspot installed only? Or I´ll need to buy a modem Wifi?

It´s possible to use the "Remote" app with Itunes and a Nokia E72 with Joikuspot installed only? Or I´ll need to buy a modem Wifi?
I was using "remote" with a D-link modem, that works fine at my iPad. But now I´m using only the cell phone as modem 3G, and don´t want to intall a router to put new cables at my notebook.

    What?
You want to control iTunes on your computer using the Remote app on your iPad?
And you want to connect the iPad and computer through your Nokia?
    No, this will not work.
Just create a network with your notebook.

  • Nokia e72, gmail setup + syncing contacts and cale...

    My objective was to
    1) get my contacts into the phone from this account, as I had on my old windows mobile device
    2) set up my gmail account on my new nokia e72
    1) getting contacts from gmail into the phone.
    Go here:
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147951
and carefully do whatever is instructed.
*This works for calendar also (I assume you will want your google calendar to come into the phone, and sync thereafter. But all-day entries on google become 24 hour entries, modified by your timezone (eg xyz birthday, 15 mar 2010 5.00 am to 16 mar 2010 5.00 am). Otherwise the calendars seem to sync ok therafter (didn't spend much time there).
*This does not work for tasks. (read the google sync instructions carefully for nokia. but not for tasks, or for email bodies (though email headers sync, and you can probably create and send, and delete etc your email on the phone)
*This does not work email either, ie you can see the message headers, but can't see the bodies of emails on the phone.
The explanation for this I found after much digging is that Mail for Exchange on Nokia is actually meant for Microsoft ActiveSync servers, and Google is providing limited sync facilities using this ....system. (correct me if I'm wrong). See the datasheets on Nokia Europe websites about Mail for Exchange.
Over all, a pity, but you can't blame Nokia. As for Google (in whose hands further improvement lies for MFE playing nice with google mail), I hope, and believe they will make things better here (unless they lose their interest in it like they did with google gears).
2)Now getting your email from gmail into your nokia E72: Here Nokia is at fault, and a serious deficiency. I went to email setup in the menu's and started the wizard to create a new account. It seemed to have preconfigured setups for common email providers like gmail, yahoo etc. I started the gmail set up wizard, keyed in my username and password, then waited 5 seconds, and the screen went back to the previous one. This kept repeating, every time I tried. Tried everything: checked internet connectivity (wifi), closed all other apps including the MFE I had set up earlier, switched off and on the phone, everything short of standing on my head. So what works? How do you set up a personal gmail account on your nokia e72? go here:
    http://www.techniqx.com/2010/02/workaround-for-configuring-gmail.html
(I paste that text here in case that page is removed:
"The email software in Nokia E72 still has lots of bugs. To configure your Gmail account, it’s not as easy as selecting Gmail and entering the credentials. That simply won’t work as there is a bug. Instead, workaround is to select “Other” and enter a false id like [email protected], this will take you to the next page to select the type. Select “POP/IMAP”. Now, you will get an option to enter your credentials and modify advanced settings. Here change your email id back to [email protected] and enter the credentials as mentioned here> (the gmail site for imap manual setup):
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799
And you have gmail set up. Quite inelegant process of setting up gmail on this nokia phone, I would say.
Nokia, please iron out the bugs and inconsistencies in your flagship models' primary functions. Otherwise the phone functions very well, the interface is nice and attractive. And while the bugs are still there, please put up the limitations and  the workarounds if any prominently. Nobody expects 100 % perfection.

I had a number of problems setting up Google Apps with my E72 phone. Mail, Calendar and Tasks were not syncing.
    Mail
I have spent far too long setting up google apps to sync properly with my new E72 (latest software installed). It really is a superb phone but if Nokia is not going to fully support integration with Google Apps with a simple app then Android and Blackberry will simply take over for Apps users. It really isn't up to Google to solve this its up to Nokia. Are we going to move from Google Apps or change our phones????
I have gmail and  business google apps accounts and both are now syncing properly with what seems to be pretty good Nokia email software on the phone. This is allowing me to receive, send, view attachments, view sent mail etc. Here are the steps I took from the beginning. Its a repeat of some of the good advice above which helped me on my long journey!
    1. Enable IMAP for the google accounts. Couldn't get anything to work otherwise.
    2. Follow this instruction https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78887
    3. The inbox should now be working however you now need to map the other folders you want to see on your mobile. While at your inbox go to >settings>mailbox settings>what to sync>folder subscriptions.
    4. Click on Gmail and highlight the folders you want to see
    5. Go back to your inbox and go to the dragdown list of folders and highlight 'More Folders'. Under 'Gmail' you will find your sent items along with attachments etc. Problem solved. Its not a pretty solution but at this stage like me you just want something that works.
    Calendar
This was a nightmare and I am now running a third party app called Googasync which is working fine. In 10 days time I will need to buy this so if someone knows how to setup calendar syncing properly without it please let me know.
    Tasks
Googasync will not sync Tasks and I don't know if there is any app out there that will. If someone can help please let me know. Surely this should be pretty simple!?!?!
By the way I mailed Nokia support last Thursday on the above but have not received a reply other than to tell me that Google Apps is 3rd party software and not supported. Nokia needs to wise up.
In summary its a great phone and I've moved from a Blackerry Bold to it but I shouldn't be spending days finding workarounds!!

  • Nokia e72 email with low battery

Hi i have a nokia e72 with two mail boxes.
I want to have the mailboxes always connected, but i cant find the option to stays connected with low battery.
In my previous phone (nokia e71) i have this option,
    any help?
    tanks

    Hi XPTO,
    Welcome to the Nokia forum.
When you go to Menu > Email > Settings > Select the email account > When to Sync, you will be able to set the sync interval. There's currently no option in the E72 to keep the phone connected to the internet when the battery is low, so the email account will not be synced in such a situation. This is to make sure the battery will last as long as possible.

  • Nokia E72 IMAP mail problems

    Cross posted from here: http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?p=680673#post680673
Yeah, E72 e-mail client needs real work if it wants to be a competitor with iPhone 3GS (two of which I own) and Blackberry.
So far, I found these problems with it:
    1. The e-mail client should be able to display all IMAP folders. Currently there is no option to do that. This is a major functionality problem. In fact, displaying all folders available on the IMAP server should be the default. Instead, the client offers the folders that don't exist at all - silly choice indeed (for instance, I get a choice to see "Sent Items", which doesn't exist on any of my IMAP servers).
    2. If large number of IMAP folders is selected, e-mail client won't work any more (becomes frozen for lengthy periods of time) and may even corrupt mailbox setup (in my case, it renamed two of my mailboxes to the same name - it just called them Email). Note, it didn't corrupt my mail - it corrupted mailbox setup on the phone. Essentially, mail doesn't work after large number of folders have been subscribed to. The client keeps connecting/disconnecting and eventually gives up.
    3. There is no selection for sent folder. This is a critical feature for any IMAP client. It would be nice if drafts could be selected too, but that's not critical.
    4. IMAP IDLE is not implemented properly. There are a number of selections as to when to poll the IMAP server, but that is not proper push e-mail support. There should be an option for the client to keep the connection open all the time and reopen it if/when it goes down. Currently, it is impossible to have "always on" IMAP IDLE support. Which then means that e-mail delivered to IMAP server will not be picked up by the phone for many minutes.
    5. Email, if configured, should start when the phone is rebooted. As of now, it doesn't, which means that even if one configures polling for e-mail and the phone is rebooted, the mail will not be picked up.
My Nokia E72 is E72-2, software version 021.024.237.02.
PS. Can someone smack Nokia Australia support people around the ears for replying with utter nonsense to customers' questions, please? It's annoying when real bugs get reported and people that have no idea what the problem is (let alone the solution) reply with garbage.

Hi all what a  nice discussion on e 72 issues and I hope Nokia developers also work like users.
I have 5 e mail accounts configured g mail, yahoo, hotmail, ovi and my company account which is  gmail apps . Except for gmail nothing seems to work .
First of all for email to be successful like BB push mail should work automatically . That is whenever one gets connected to net mails should down load as per parameters set . This is not happening .
Secondly i still do not know why mails do not download on  manual mode also when you go to" send receive now "..I have noticed that mails do come into some of my  accounts when I am  connected to the net and simultaneously mail is being sent . I have tested this more than once in my office . Otherwise push mail does not work . This seems to be  a serious bug .This means push mail is a flop. Further there seems to be some peculiar issue with yahoo mail .This is an issue I have for a long time . I also feel after a while whole thing gets coorupted and perhas this is the reason why e mail system stops working .
Thirdly and most annoying thing are  the messages which keep pooping asking for password for different e mail account .Any one else having same issue ?
High nokia advises customers as to what they have done and what can be expected out of this system . If nokia mail system fails they will loose lot of ground to BB and apple and they can not survive selling only voice/message phones at exorbitant prices .

  • Nokia E72 - Set up Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo accoun...

I bought my E72 3 days ago and the first impression i got was disappointing.
The first action you do when switching on E72 for the first time is to set up your email accounts.
Remember, E72 is Nokia's top email phone!!!
I chose hotmail. I enter my email account and then my password as requested.
And the next screen i get is nothing but the previous one!!!
The same happens with Yahoo accounts.
I found a way to work around the crash and set up my account through the "other" tab available on the wizard.
I am really disappointed that i have changed my beloved E71, to get an even more proffessional solution that in the end needs a total update to set up our emails.
There must be a solution in the next software upgrade and must be installed for free in all Nokia's stores.

  • NOKIA E72 water damage?!

    Hi,
Some drops of rain water fell on my Nokia E72 today. As soon as I got back home..I wiped my phone clean..opened the back panel and wiped the battery and I blew-dry d entire fone too .
All functions seem to be ok except the headset jack which is placed at d top..it DOES recognize d headset n play music but won't detect when I detach the headphones. So to u se loud speaker again,I have to restart my phone.
    2. USB port also seems affected,it got me connected to laptop and is acting very well as modem but won't charge.
For some time the speaker wasn't working properly either..d sound was coarse n volume level had come down considerably. but after dryin n playin music for some time,it is restored to original
Please suggest me how to solve the above two problems as I don't really want to go to customer care for these little problems. Thanks.

    Solved!

Yup, by TOS I meant terms-of-service
As far as I know the way it works is that (1) your phone maintains a connection with (one of the) Nokia servers, so that as soon as the Nokia server has anything to say (e.g. "new e-mail"), your phone gets it; and (2) the Nokia servers fetch your e-mails so that (1) can work.
Now, I don't know how (2) works. In theory the Nokia server should act like an IMAP client, and should be using IDLE in order to fetch the e-mails as soon as the server gets them.
I don't use Nokia Messaging anymore (I now prefer Profimail on my E75), but for some time I did research a bit on that topic, and noticed that the Nokia server was making an IMAP connection to my e-mails server (fastmail.fm) every 15min, i.e. not keeping it open permanently using IDLE. It may be that during those 15min sessions IDLE was used, and then the Nokia server simply decided to close and re-open the connection. That may sound illogical, but perhaps it's more reliable this way.
In any case, I was getting my e-mails on the phone instantly, i.e. the reconnection every 15min had no impact on the actual push delivery.
Apparently there are many people having problems with Nokia Messaging. I don't know if Gmail or Yahoo allow you to see a connection log, but if they do, please have a look and see if and how often a server from Nokia/Finland is connecting to your IMAP server.
Also, I would just in case log on on email.nokia.com and make sure that your account is active (the E72 should give you a lifetime subscription, but please double check).

  • Nokia e72 and where did the memory go????

New Nokia e72, after the disappointing Nokia E75 i really didn`t expect Nokia to release another unfinished phone!
Dont get me wrong, great Phone the E72, solid hardware, but it has the same memory problem found in other nokia devices. 42 M at start up. Tried to go on the internet with the build in browser, 2 big flash sites like CNN and sadly the memory was down to between 356 K to 1 M, and the phone didn´t react anymore. After shuting down the browser, the E72 had 42 M in free memory again. It's the same story when using Spotify or Youtube.
Is there any one else with the same problem?  What will/can Nokia do about it?
    Best regards

I am using the program PhoNetInfo to check for available RAM.  Find it at http://www.patrickfrei.ch/phonetinfo/index.html.  Not sure if there's an easier solution?  You will need to follow the instructions to have it signed at http://symbiansigned.com for it to work.
As for the main thread, I am using an E73, which is basically the same as an E72.  Memory was one of the shortcomings I knew about when buying the phone, but so far I have hit only one browser "Out of memory" error.  Guess the sites I use either have a mobile version or simply aren't so memory intensive?  But I might look at this problem from the other perspective.  Unless they're loaded with pictures, web sites that trigger "Out of memory" are probably obscenely FAT!  I marvel at the design of certain modern web sites.  It's as if the programmers get paid by line of code, or are in competition to win this year's Rube Goldberg prize, for the most unnecessarily complicated invention.  Try downloading such a web site over a dial-up connection.  In this case, the problem is totally different, but the resulting frustration is the same.  And IMHO, the cause is the same: BAD DESIGN.  Simpler is better for visitors and both cheaper and easier to maintain.
Has anybody tried the Skyfire?  While it likely has some problems of its own, I assume it will work around a straightforward "Out of memory" error...because it's not a real web browser?
