Nokia Is To Be Blamed for Album Art & Metadata

Right first of all when Nokia released back in the days the N91 and that device had the support for standard Metadata & ID3 Tagging + Album Art and now there are more nseries/eseries/nokia express music devices such as N95, N81, N82, N95 8GB, 5300 etc...
The problem is Nokia have moved from Standard Metadata/ID3 Tagging and now they use there own method which i find is ridiculous ! before I use to use Easy CD-DA Extractor Pro v10.5 which was excellent for album art, ID3/Medatadata Tagging etc and they converted audio files use to show correct details on nseries device such as Album art, genre etc.
Now if i use any programs such as Winamp Pro, Easy CD-DA Extractor v11 or above, Mediamonkey etc and try to Add an album art into the eAAC+ file (.aac) they do not show up on any nseries devices (so far ive tried N82, n81 n95, n95 8GB) all with latest firmware.
Nokia should get there act togtether and change to standard method. !!!
i can not be askd to manually put jpeg images into my phone and select for each tract/or album the album art in the music player on the phone !
I have contacted Winamp - EasY CD-DA Extractor - Coding Technologies (License to Nokia for aacPlus) and they all seem to say one common in thing;
- They use the latest aacPlus plugin and the problem is not with their plugin its with Nokia. Coding Technologies gave license to Winamp - Easy CD DA Extractor and they both use the latest aac Plugin.
I would advise a Moderator to pass this info to the relevant firmware team and update this metadata/ID3 tagging to Standard like its used in all other software and hardware devices !

  • Multipe images for album art?

So, you can add multiple images to iTunes for each track. Like, the album cover and an image of the liner notes, or the back cover, or, something like that.
I don't seem to be able to see those secondary images while using my 5G iPod that I synced after adding the images.
Is it possible to see multiple images for album art? Is my iPod even getting those secondary images?
    Thanks!

Actually in a way you can do this, although you won't see the multiple images all at the same time. For an album you can actually have a different image for each track on that album. So for example you could have the cover for the first track, the back cover for the second track and so on. All you need do is browse info for each track and drop each image into each track separately.

  • Adding scanned art for Album Art

I followed the itunes help on this topic and checked out some of the previous threads about album art with no real solutions to my problem:
I am using iTunes 7 and my brother just recorded an indie album which I added to my iTunes library. I then scanned the CD cover and made two copies:
a .psd file of 250x249 pixels
a .jpg file of 250x249 pixels
The iTunes Help says to command-click each item in the album, choose "Get Info" and then drag and drop the art into the little artwork box in the window. That kind of works. The file appears in the little window, but when I close the "Get Info" window on those items, the album art is not there. I also tried Browsing to the file with the same results. I tried both the JPG and the PSD file.
I also tried dragging the file from my desktop onto a single file and that won't "stick" at all. If I have a single song selected and try to drag the file from the desktop to the album art viewer, it won't go at all. It just "bounces" back to its spot on the desktop.
Is there a certain file type or size? I am the administrator of the computer. I tried things like ejecting the CD before dropping the art work on and I tried changing the iTunes view from the new "album art carousel" look to the standard iTunes view.
    What could be wrong? Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There really is no standard file size, however, "less is plenty" applies. Jpeg is sufficient, and since it's basically for screen resolution on either the monitor or iPod, then the file sizes you mention are more than sufficient.
Odd, the artwork is not sticking. I usually copy/paste into the Artwork panel for a single selection. Multiple selections are similar to what you tried - drag/drop to the artwork panel, which automatically checks the box to the left of the panel. Upon selecting OK, iTunes updates the album or multiple selections (usually taking 20 seconds or so).
Might try moving the com.apple.iTunes.plist file in your User Library>Preferences folder to the desktop and restarting iTunes. You may have a corrupted preference file. On the restart, iTunes creates a new preference file. See if the artwork functionality is restored. If not, return the file to its original location. If the artwork placement does work, then you'll need to restore any custom iTunes preferences.
    Post back with results.

  • "Software for Album Art"

    Hello everybody,
I used to use a program called, "Fetch Art" for find album art work and I had good luck with it overall..however since the recent update of iTunes I cannot use this program anymore--it errors out.
Other than signing up for an iTunes account, is there another software package that I could try for finding album art?
    Thanks,

    Try Clutter, at http://www.sprote.com/clutter/
Whats cool about this program, besides being free, it allows you to place album covers on your desktop that you can click on that will launch iTunes. I still use it to find album art work.

  • Pay for Album Art

Just wondering if I am paying for the album art when I have itunes apply it to my songs. I had to log in to get it so Im not sure if you do. I assume that you don't, the pay box doesn't come up but a similar one does so I am a little unsure what the deal is.

Well, you gonna figure it's gonna make mistakes. There's no guarantee that the CDDB data (publicly maintained) is going to exactly match the iTunes store data. So, as soon as you start do fuzzy searches, it's a balance between matching a small number of albums with a high degree of accuracy, or the other way around.
I actually wonder if they're tweaking this still. I'm still going through my library, and sometimes it seems more finicky than others about finding a match at all.

  • Solution for album art issues

I spent some time with the issue downloading album art. First, the application seems to be quite specific with artist/album text. I went through my library with the mini store turned on and compared the album titles to my albums with the titles in the store. I noticed that the albums that had issues downloading the art were spelled differently (additional apostrophe, and instead of N, etc...)
Once I fixed all the album titles, I was able to get the artwork for all of my albums. Next issue is that iTunes is not synching the added art work. It seems that adding art work through the application does not trigger a synch. I had to change the settings on my iPod to manually manage my library. Deleted all my songs off the iPod and change the settings back to automatic and iTunes synched everything back over with the added album art.
Hope this helps anyone having issues...

GreyCharleh I'm having the same problem. Did you ever get an answer?
I bought music on iTunes, created a Playlist - which SHOWED the album artwork in the playlist.
BUT when I burned a CD, the album artwork did not burn with the music.
Any help? Any suggestions? Or am I SOL?

  • What's the best resolution for album art?

I have encountered some 500x500 album art images that don't fill the album art box, and some 200x200 album art image that do completely fill the box. So I assume that there's more to importing album art than just pixel counts.
That leaves pixel density, or resolution. What should the proper resolution be for a 500x500 pixel album art image? Anything else I'm missing?
    Thanks. WeedMonkey

72 pixels per inch is usually the default and I find this works reasonably well, although if you want high-detailed covers I'd go for something like 144 or even 200PPI. I get all of my album art from www.7digital.com and save the 350x350 images. I find they are just the right size for Cover Flow and on my iPod.

  • "Nothing Playing" for Album art

Probably a dumb question, but with the previous version of iTunes, when I selected a song that I had purchased from the iTunes Music Store, the album art would be displayed in the lower left of the iTunes window. Now I have to double click and start playing the song for the art to display. I like the old behavior better - is there something that I'm missing to return the behavior?
    - troy

Mine works just by selecting the song, but I have the art window set as "Selected Song", that is, the text above the art window. What does it say above your art window? You can switch between "Now Playing" & "Selected Song" by clicking once on the text.

  • Any Suggestions for Album Art Trouble?

I have a lot of CDs on iTunes and I tried to download the cover art for the CDs. However, the Apple store doesn't have the artwork for many CDs and for others, it downloads the wrong cover art. For the Buena Vista Social Club, for example, it downloaded the cover of Astral Social Club. It doesn't have any cover art for the Beatles (is that because Apple and Apple Records were suing each other over trademark infringement? I thought that had been settled). Is anyone else having this sort of trouble? And how do you get rid of the album art that's wrong? I've tried dragging it to the trash, but nothing happens.

Good advice from Diane Wordsmith. A couple of shortcuts:
To fill in missing artwork: Google and find the correct artwork. Copy it. Get Info on the song tracks and paste the artwork into the artwork field.
Set the views to "show artwork", highlight the track or tracks, then just drag the image from the browser window to the empty artwork box. To make image searching faster in Google, click on the "images" feature in the results window to just see hits with artwork.
To get rid of wrong artwork: Get Info on the song tracks. Select the artwork in the artwork field and hit delete. Then copy and paste as noted above to apply correct artwork. (The artwork field will hold more than one image, so you must hit delete first to get rid of artwork that's wrong.)
If you want to delete artwork from a bunch of files at once, highlight the group of files. Get Info. Click on the box next to the artwork box and close the info window. This will delete all artwork in those files.
Note. Adding artwork to files this way will increase the size of the file. Usually if a single track from an album has artwork it will display for all the items in the album so you don't necessarily need to add artwork to all the tracks in an album. This will save some space.
I am hoping this hasn't changed all that much since iTunes 7.5

  • Recovering album art for movies

I am having problems with the album art on itunes. The album art for my songs, tv shows, and movies, I can seem them in itunes. but when I load the files onto my ipod touch the album art gets screwed up. It takes frames from movies and substitutes them for album art for a song. anyway so I went to the apple store, and they told me to delete the album art and have itunes redownload it using the get album art thing in itunes. I went into the movie files and deleted the album art. and when I told itunes to get new album art, it did not fix the problem. now I can't see the album art in itunes anymore. I know it's not a big deal... but I really would like to fix it. any help would be appreciated.

  • Album art won't transfer when dragging music to device

Hope I'm not the only one to have noticed this.
I recently updated iTunes to v10.6 from 10.0. Since then, any album art that I have manually added in the past no longer shows up on my iPhone or iPod Classic. However, album art that was retrieved via iTunes (purchases, etc) does appear. I first noticed this on my iPhone, which was running iOS 5.0.1 at the time. I updated to iOS 5.1 afterwards, thinking that it might solve the problem but nothing changed.
Some things I should mention; my entire library is ALAC (lossless), and I do not use the sync feature with music. I manually drag albums over that I want and use the "convert to AAC feature", and have always done so. The main reason I upgraded to iTunes 10.6 was to take advantage of converting to AAC 256kbps instead of the previously fixed bit rate of 128kbps. Anyway, I dragged over a lossless album without the option of converting to AAC, but it still didn't transfer the artwork.
In case anyone is wondering, the method I used to download my art was by finding the cover using Google Images, hilighting every track in the album, and pasting it in. Again, I never had this problem until upgrading iTunes to v10.6.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone else has experience this problem, and if there are any fixes yet.
    (10.6.8)

In my experience, the only way for the album artwork to stay associated with the actual music file, is to use the "Update album artwork" feature in iTunes. This means, that to get the artwork from iTunes, the artist name, song title and album name MUST match exactly the information of the song in the iTunes store. If the art is not available, you can add your own. If you add your own, then run the update album art feature again so that the album art becomes part of the songs meta data. It should transfer to just about any device after that. However, some devices (Nokia comes to mind) will not display art metadata over 64K in size.

  • How do you get album art to display in N95 player?

As titled, on the N95 8GB, how do you get the image art work of a file/song to display? Thanks

    To > pescaglini
I've got the best method for album art without using any jpegs from the phone.
    Follow these steps;
    1. Download & Install Easy CD-DA Extractor v11.0 (30-Day Trial). This software is amazing & its worth paying for...and if u get other version above v11.0 album art will NOT work !
    Download Link: http://rapidshare.com/files/120267020/ezcddax11.exe.html
MODs dont worry it 30-Day Trial
    2. Run Easy CD-DA Extractor v11.0
    3. Select the “Audio Converter” Tab & drag your files that you want converting.
    4. Now edit your audio files tags such as Genre, Artist, Album etc
    5. Highlight all your music files & click on the “Additional ID3” tab.
    6. You have two options either to Download Album Art off the Internet or Load the
image from your PC. For this guide I am going to use an Image that is saved on my PC.
    7. Select Your Encoding Method eg MP3 Lame, AAC+, eAAC+ etc
    8. Then Press Convert Button & presto u get album art
Alternativly if you want a Guide with Screenshots then I've made this guide, remember the guide came from me ...

  • Album art won't update when albums removed

    Hi,
I have noticed a bug on my new iPad. If I have multiple albums by the one artist on my iPad, it displays the album art of one of the albums in the thumbnail view.
However if I then remove the album from my iPad that relates to the album art being shown, the thumbnail views still stays as that artwork rather than changing to one of the other albums still on my iPad.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

In my experience, the only way for the album artwork to stay associated with the actual music file, is to use the "Update album artwork" feature in iTunes. This means, that to get the artwork from iTunes, the artist name, song title and album name MUST match exactly the information of the song in the iTunes store. It should transfer to just about any device after that. However, some devices (Nokia comes to mind) will not display art metadata over 64K in size.

  • Ovi Suite 2.0 Music Album Art

Just installed Ovi Suite 2.0.  I have been using Nokia Music for a while now to add music to my device.  I have configured my songs so Nokia Music recognizes the albums perfectly.  All I do is click transfer to device and bingo my phone displays everything I want.
The music tab in Ovi Suite seems to be lacking a lot. First, it does recocognize a lot of artist names and album names on my device.  So, it just lumps them into an Unknown category.  Nokia Music, however, recognizes and sorts them properly.  Second, most of the album art is missing in Ovi Suite.  When Ovi Suite looks at either my PC hard drive or my device, it does not recognize album art.  Nokia Music, however, does recognize the album art. Third, most of the functions provided by Nokia Music, such as sorting by genre are gone.
    Would Nokia please fix this?

  • How can I get album art to be shown in the left corner when it's already shown in the main area of iTunes?

My entire music collection was recently deleted on accident. It was my fault (and partially my external harddrive's ridiculously touchy USB cord's fault), but anyways I was able to use an undelete software to get the files back. Some are gone, some are somehow warped into each other, e.g., a folk song, audio-wise, is now replaced with half of a death metal song. I'm trying to fix all that up right now, but my problem is that I can only see album art in the main part of iTunes, right next to the song titles displayed. iTunes refuses to display the art in the bottom left-hand corner, where I think it usually shows what the cursor is locked on at a given time. I'm sorry for not elaborating a sentence or two back, I've also lost about half of my album art in iTunes, so that's why I'm adding it back.
The weird thing is, album art that was retained after the deletion fiasco does show up in both areas. It's just album art that I add right now that doesn't work. And it can't just be because the files are corrupted or something, because they are editable and play fine, and the same thing happened with a file I just redownloaded and then imported. That file should be perfectly OK.
Can anyone tell me if there's a reason for album art to not display in the bottom left-hand corner of iTunes while I have certain files selected?
    Thanks
p.s. one more thing, it's not like the Currently Selected box in that corner is hidden, it's in plain view which is why the blank space is so bothersome.

I am having a similar problem - my iPod Touch (2nd gen., 32GB, iOS 4.1) was recognized by iTunes on my 24" iMac (Intel, Late 2006) after I had updated it about 1-2 weeks ago (Software Update) to 10.2.2 (the iMac has OS X 10.5.8 on it). I had to take my iMac to a local WiFi spot to do the updating, because I don't have Internet at home currently (can't find anyone who provides just affordable DSL if you don't have your landline via AT&T).
Today I went to sync my iPod Touch with the iMac (I had updated some apps and bought one new one using the iPT through local WiFi spot). However, iTunes did not see ANY devices at all(!). I tried connecting the iPod Touch first, restarting iTunes and then re-connecting the iPT - nothing helps. The iPod screen turns on just like when charging, but no sign of syncing.
I'm wondering how applicable the article that you listed would be, or is there a comparable article for iPod Touches with 10.5.8? (I'm getting very fed up with what seems to be the standard Apple partyline of "Just buy a new iPod/Mac/get new software....blah, blah, blah" -Apple, what about those of us who consider it wasteful and unnecessary to buy new hardware or software every few years, just to get a helpful and NON-condescending reply from your support people?
