Nokia Lumia 720 internet sharing DNS problem

Hi,
I am using Nokia Lumia 720 (OS version 8.0.10517.150) for internet sharing and have had DNS issues lately. When connecting to hotspot with my laptop I get DNS server is not responding error. Phone has data connection and I can browse the internet through phone but cant use it to share the data connection. When I connect my laptop with other wifis it works fine also so the fault must be in Lumias hotspot generation.
Had the same problem few weeks ago but then restarting the device and changing hotspot settings helped but it does not do the job right now.
Any ideas?

Have you tried using your micro-SIM card with other internet sharing capable phones to verify it the issue is network or device related? Aside from your laptop, have you tried sharing your Lumia 720's internet connection with other phones?
Here are some tips that might help you resolve the issue:
1. If enabled, switch Battery saver mode off: Tap Settings > battery saver > Off. You can also just connect the phone to the charger.
2. Check the signal strength on the phone screen. To increase the signal strength, move around or move towards a window if you are inside a building.
3. Keep your phone in the idle mode. Incoming or outgoing call will interrupt the data transfer until the call ends.
4. Check the cellular data indicator (E, 2G, 3G, H+, 4G) at the left side of the phone's screen. Change the mobile network's highest connection speed from 3G/4G to 2G and back again to make sure that your phone is connecting to the network correctly. Go to Settings > mobile network (or mobile + SIM or cellular or cellular + SIM).
5. Make sure that the internet sharing security type (if not selectable, WPA2 is used) and password settings match between the connecting device and your phone (Settings > internet sharing).
6. Make sure that the operator mobile data plan subscription allows Wi-Fi tethering and your network operator has enabled internet sharing on the phone.
7. If possible, try to create a connection with some other device or force the connecting device Wi-Fi adapter to use 802.11g standard - disable 802.11n mode. On a Windows PC, go to Control Panel > Network and Internet >Network Connections, and right click your active Wireless Network Connection and open Properties >Configure > Advanced, then select 802.11n and set value to Disabled. Once ready, press OK.
8. Connect again, as internet sharing switches off after 5 minutes of inactivity.

  • Nokia Lumia 720 Wifi didnt respond problem

    I have been using my aunt's house wifi for quite sometime and all of a sudden I encountered a problem saying"Couldn't connect to the Wifi XXX as the wifi didn't repond.Please Try again later".I am able to connect to my University's Wifi and other Wifi's but.The same wifi in my aunt's house is getting connected to my laptop and Ipad but not my phone.Its even working fine in my friend's android phone.Internet is an integral part of my project work and since I'll be staying with my aunt for quite sometime,I request you to provide me a solution as soon as possible.

    Hi, RojaMalligarjun. Thanks for posting in the community. Have you tried deleting the WiFi access point on your phone & reconnect it? To do this, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > tap and hold the WiFi connection >delete. It would also help if you can refresh your phone's software by pressing and holding the volume down and the power keys simultaneously for about 10 seconds. Keep us posted.

    There's a problem with ICQ on Nokia Lumia 720. The fact is that being minimized (not closed) it loses connection, after maximizing it, you have to launch the program again. Who faced this problem, did ya find any decision?

    Does it get sorted if you uninstall the subject application ? If so..the problem lies with the application and not the phone ...
    ..but before that confirm that you are connected to the Internet .. You may try after rebooting the phone. Also un-install and re-install the application and try again ..

SHREYANKANA is continuously complaining following: 1) in low battery condition phone gets hanged and doesn't on even after long charging. 2) phone has been repaired two times at Nokia center one at Surat next at dharamshala but the problem still persist.3) phone gets hanged up frequently. My daughter is fade up of this set and suffering a lot on issues of her study. The phone has been again given to Nokia care, one touch communications, west Patel Nagar, Delhi 8 with job sheet no. 112433527/131012/11. A telephonic complaint has also been made on 30303838 on 12.10.13 with complaint no. 1-14752735177. we request to replace the handset by another model of Nokia.     My NOKIA LUMIA 720 -Screen freeze..Automatic fast screen touch working without my input
    Since yesterday, i am facing this issue. Its 1 month old mobile.
    Today i scared alot with my phone working, because my lumia 720 home screen is automatically working with out any of my input. i had seen 3 to 4 times, it struck off all once and it stands on Calculator screen or messge inbox scrren.
    Some times, it automatically asking for deletion of contacts & it is asking for link of contacts to one another & it is automatically going for a new message and asking for some file attachment addition.then i feared alot and i switch off the phone immidiately.
    What if, any of my images or personnel files went to a wrong person.
    Please suggest any of you, what to do  now.

    M too having this problem.. tried soft/hard reset but no use.. updated every system and app still no use.. I dont even droped my phone that could be the cause of this f*****g problem. Now the down touch not working. but after 5 to 6 hrs of rest it started to work insanely like you said. I cant even use my phone and sometimes the call been ended coz of this stupid problem -_-"

  • Nokia Lumia 720 down volume button not working aft...

    Hi just got my Lumia 720 25 days back and now i'm having this issue going on started from today after I wake up my phone the down volume button does not work for a while. What i noticed is until i press the Up volume button the down volume button does not respond anuthing. Is that a software problem ? Because i feel like if i press it little harder than usual it start working fine.
    Not sure what to do ? Like it will get resolved with an upcoming update or an hardware issue ? Should I need to check with the Nokia Care.
    I already tried to do a soft reset thrice but it still the same. Someone please help !

    Even I have the same issue with my Newly purchased nokia lumia 720... Sometime the volume down buttons works perfectly and with time is doesn't work at all is this a software issue... i am facing this since i have downloaded an audio update.... i m tired of resetting the settings i am tired visiting service centers, as they are asking me to leave my phone for 15-20 days as the part is not available with them and my question is. if there is a hardware issue then is should stop working but in my case sometimes it works as perfect as the day i bought the device and sometimes it doesn't work at all. Will this issue be fixed with Amber update... What is the appropriate solutions for this matter please reply......

  • Replacement of 3 days old Nokia Lumia 720 manufact...

    Nokia dealer sold me damaged mobile. I submitted my new device on 28th august for replacement to nokia care center but after 14 days they call me saying that my mobile is repaired. But i specifically said in complaint that i don't wan't my new device to be repaired, i need is replacement. I purchased it on 20th august & since 2nd day it started hanging that too continously & was unable to use it. On 23 i Visited nokia care center for replacement but they sais that it is just software problem. But they didn't got updated software so, they told me visit another nokia care center because we have two nokia care center in our city. but the working hours were about to finish. I visited them on monday i.e. on 25th august & they did software update. On the same day i found that problem was still there so i visited them back on next day but they didn't logged my complaint & kept my mobile without providing any job. They said to me that they want's to use my mobile so that they can see problem on their own. On next 27th they provide me new job sheet no. & took my mobile. & on 28 i logged another complaint on live chat for replacement & told them the whole story. & after that what happened i told you above. Please help me i this regards as soon as possible because i am using borrowed mobile which i have to give back soon or else i don't have any mobile to contact with. please help me...

    Im sorry I dont know how to start a topic, hope you all dont mind but really need advice.
    My boyfriend bought me a Nokia Lumia 720 for my birthday 6th of Sept this year. I had it only a week and when I dropped it and I smashed the screen. Instead of sending it nokia, I completely did the wrong thing and brought it to the local repair shop as I thought it would be done there and then and so the story begins.
    The technician had a look at it and quoted 50 to 60 euro for a new screen as the LCD was still working, I said fine so he ordered the part in and let me use my phone till it came. Week or two later brought it up and he said it would be fixed within the hour. I came back only to be told he had trouble getting it apart and it would not be ready till the next day.
    My boyfriend went up to get it the next day and he was told there was another problem, the screen and LCD were fused together so the technician said the part he got was no good that I need the two of them together and would be bout 90 euro. As the phone was in a million pieces I kinda didn't have a choice so told him that was fine and go ahead to order it.
    Another week or two went and I got a phone call to say he could not get the part he wanted so he had to order the hole front of the phone and it would be now 150 for parts and labour. I gave the extra money as I was really fed up and just wanted my phone back that I barely used. I waited and waited and the part finally arrived around the 24 of Oct, I know because I was fuming it wouldn't be ready as I was going to England on the 27th Oct.
    My boyfriend was in touch with them while i was away and it was suppose to be collected on the Saturday the 1st of November.I was really excited as I was coming home that night to my fixed phone but again it didn't happen.
    The technician told my boyfriend (after staying an hour or so and been back and forth to the shop) that it was still calibrating and wouldn't be ready till Monday. Monday came and as I was working my boyfriend collected it, I finally had my phone but alas it was too good to be true. The camera was not working and when I got my boyfriend too ring me (when he was beside me) I could not hear a thing. On the Tuesday morning he brought it back and told him the issues, the technician was full of apologies and said he would have another look, he updated or restored the phone and told him to bring it home and when it finished what it was doing everything would be okay.
    After the clogs on the screen went off I tried to switch it back on like the technition said but it never did, I even tried charging it but it was like it was dead nothing happened. I went straight back to the shop put it on the counter and told him to fix my phone that what ever he did its not working at all now. Again he was full of apologies and said he would take it home and see what he can do. My boyfriend rang a couple of days later and the technician said he is going to order a camera piece for it, I said I was not paying for it as the camera was working when we brought it up, he said he would "take the hit for it" and it will be 10 to 24 days delivery.
    I rang and talked to the manager saying I wasnt happy, he was also full of appoligies and said he would have a look at it for me also. Never heard anything more from him like I was supposed to.
    I got a phone call yesterday 2nd of January and the technician said the camera part was put in but it is still not working, he said there is nothing really more he can do. Im so upset because it was just a cracked screen everything else was working. 
    Long story short nearly 3 months  and 150 euros later my phone is worse off than I left it in.
    I need a little advise in what to do if he tries handing me back a broken phone. I am going to go to citizens information for legal advise but I also need some technical advise on this issue. Could it have been a faulty phone? Is everything that he has said about the parts true? Could he have broken the speaker and camera when he was trying to get the phone apart etc.
    Sorry for the length of this, and if you could get back to me with some advise I would really appreciate it, thanks

  • Nokia Lumia 720 capacitive button light leak

    I just bought Nokia Lumia 720 a week ago and i discovered the capacitive button has light leaked to the display above.
    The display is so beautiful and i like it but the light leak is annoying especially when the display is showing dark colour.
    Anyone has this problem?

    Its a minimal light leak wouldn't bother me tbh,however you can return the device to point of purchase for replacement,dont forget your receipt.

  • Armoured Case for Nokia Lumia 720

    I've recently been given a Nokia Lumia 720 to use a a work phone and last week I leaned over a desk and cracked the screen.  My colleague cracked his a couple of weeks ago.  I've been given a replacement, but told if I break it again, I'll have to pay for it.  I'm now afraid to use the phone as it seems a bit fragile, even with it's rubber case.
    My wife has an Otterbox for her Ipad to protect it from the kids.  I've scoured the internet, but can't find anything similar for the Lumia 720.  Are there any armoured cases available for this phone?

    You could use one of those leather type cases with a front flap. They will offer all round protection. Usually the longer the phone is on the market, the more choices you will have. It also does no harm to contact manufacturers such as otterbox and let them you you are looking for a case. Might just push them into releasing one sooner.
