Beyond that, Nokia are entirely responsible for both the quality of the hardware they make and the software they provide to run it. They may choose to outsource the software creation, but they can't outsource the responsibility.
Not exactly. Nokia does not write or maintain the interface software to the MTP client in Windows Phone. This is part of the core OS and as such is the responsibility of Microsoft. The specifications clearly state the software requirements and for the most part if these are met things work as expected.
The minimum requirement is Windows XP SP3 with Windows Media Player 10. The MTP drivers are included with WMP here and in later versions of Windows are part of the OS. The software on the phone is only a client to this software and will expect the host t o be properly configured and set up to be able to communicate. It is fairly certain that in this case it is the host which is not working properly as I have myself seen multiple minimal spec system doing fine.
The point of the discussion so far was that the instigator assumed we (or I if you must) were basically saying he should update to 7 or 8 which is simply not the case. From the first response it wasmade clear what the min spec is. The phone as is is fine so there is no issue there at all. From a personal point of view I think it would benefit anyone greatly to at least upgrade to Windows 7 at least for too many reasons to mention but obviously anyone is free to stay with XP but they should not expect the rest of the world to do the same or expect indefinate support for a decade old OS. There is no current OS fo which the 10 year old version is currently still supported. The fact XP still runs most software is a testament of it's sturdyness and quality, but it will fall behind very quickly over the next few years.
Windows XP is an end of life OS for which mainstream support ended FOUR years ago and extended support will end in a year. At best it is now in maintenance mode with only critical patches being released but no further development of the OS has been done for a few years now. Windows 7 is the de-facto version of Windows now and it should be he minimal requirement for any current and future software development. XP support should be seen as a bonus.

    hi mate,
have you checked that you are up to date with the latest firmware thur checking in Settings > Phone Update, and that you are up to date with all the latest Nokia system app updates from the Store? if you are, and you are still encountering problems then it appears you will need to visit your Nokia Care point for inspection of your phone.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 potential battery drain issue?

Can you Nokia confirm this? http://reach.jdbpocketware.com/topic/128305-to-nokia-ref-lumia-920/
    The issue illustrated in detail:
    Nature of Windows Phone buttons
Pressing either the power button or the camera button will cause the device screen to turn on, even when the proximity sensor detects proximity.
    The lockscreen behavior
Upon power on, screen lights up and shows the lockscreen (or camera), which runs a timeout to auto power off the device if screen is not touched in X seconds.
But if screen is touched, the timeout counter is restarted, so continuous touching could lead into a loop, the "death loop" which won't let the device to power off (standby) and will consume battery life.
    New touchscreen technology
The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with a touchscreen that reacts to touch from pretty much any material such as metal or clothes. This can be dangerous.
    So here is a theory
When the phone is inside a pocket or bag it can be touched by other objects. These objects can press buttons and can touch/rub the screen. This will initiate the "death loop" for who knows how much time, could be minutes or hours, depends on how active the user is since body movement will produce friction between objects/clothes and touchscreen:
The "death loop" will drain battery and battery is precious.
    Solution?
Should be simple: screen must not power on if the proximity sensor detects proximity. Current version of Windows Phone does not take care of this. The big question is: will Windows Phone 8 take care of this? Is the Lumia 920 a potential battery drainer?

I don't understand why we have to spend our valuable time in the forums for days and nights to FIND HOW TO FIX THAT CRAB!! NOKIA company did not handout these devices FOR CHARITY.All of us had paid around a thousand dollars to buy this Phone. They have got to work overtime to fix it and publish a solution otherwise recall the devices back.

  • Premiere Elements 9 no longer supports video files from Nokia Lumia 920 (it used to do)!

I've edited many videos from the same phone (.mp4) with the same software before (last time was 8 months ago). Now the software claims that the "file format is not supported or the required codec is not installed". How can it be? I haven't uninstalled or installed any codecs. The phone is the same. I can still open the old projects on Premiere Elements. I need to get this fixed so I can edit my videos!

    nome2014
In the case that you are presenting, are you importing new Nokia video into a new project? You say that you can open old projects in Premiere Elements. Do the old projects contain Nokia video from the same camera? If so, open one of the old projects and try to import the new Nokia video into that old project. Imports or not?
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9 running on? Are you running the program as the 9.0.1 Update? If not, please do so either
    a. from Help Menu/Update in the opened project
    or
    b. from the 9.0.1 Update downloaded from Adobe online (Premiere Elements closed during download and installation).
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4929
I have just downloaded a sample from your Nokia Lumia 920 (1920 x 1080 @ 30 frames per second* AVCHD.mp4) and had no problems importing it into a new Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project set with the project preset of NTSC DSLR 1080p DSLR 1080p30.
    *Potential issues....
the Nokia video comes with a variable frame rate, in my case, 4.201 to 30.090, showing a value of 29.272. Premiere Elements (any version) is known to have issue with cell phone video recorded with a variable frame rate. The problem can manifest itself as audio out of sync or just not being able to import the video at all. Remedy...take the video into HandBrake and convert the variable to a constant frame rate.
    http://handbrake.fr/
Do you need a step by step how to on that? If so, we can supply one.
From what I have read, the Nokia can record with AVCHD video compression as well as MPEG-4. Both have a .mp4 file extension. Is what you used before the same video codec as you are using now? Please check the camera settings.
Please review and consider. You can post a sample of your problem video here as a Dropbox link, and I will road test it in my Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 that is working with a sample download from your brand/model cell phone.
We will be watching for your follow up.
    Thanks.

    Dear All,
thanks to this great support community website, I will b hopefully able to solve my prob.
    Description:
my nokia lumia 920 has got the latest Win8 firmware and Lumia Amber update ( with 3 UK) but when trying to play videos on my win 7 pc's,
the actual video is corrupt or does not work properly,ie sound and slow immage processing.
I have the latest win 7 codec pack on pc and tried apps like VLC,ITunes,Windows Media Player,Nokia Media Player,Nokia Video Converter and others without success......not sure what's wrong but video were ok with my old Nokia N8......perhaps the format is not recognised??????
The fact that the pc plays the video means that format is not an issue but the quality is just terrible, video and sound.
I used both the WP desktop app to sync and dragging and/or dropping file with no difference at all.
    DESPERATE,PLS HELP!!!!!!!!
Any suggestion is very much appreciated......Many thanks in advance,
    Rgds, DD1

Camera resolution is low and can’t change resolution (Nokia N8 has better)
Lumia 920 is 8Mpix, N8 is 12 Mpx, that said please elaborate. I am pretty sure that you will not be able to tell which phone took a shot if I show you one and don't tell you which I used.
Navigation (Here drive + beta) not comes with traffic updates and not giving alternate routes. Yeah traffic update is in the maps but there’s no point in there (Nokia N8 has better).
HERE suite of apps is relatively new and constantly being updated. I'll come
NBA live streaming No App. And flash player not support. (IOS and Android has it) not on N8 also.
Flash is dead, not available anymore for any up to date OS. Talk to the developer of an app on bringing it to WP8
Alarm won’t work when the phone off (N8 will turn on and works)
Your N8 is never really off
Keyboard not comes with arrow (<>) keys. Can’t type a missing letter between a word, have to delete the word and type the whole thing again.
tap and hold in textbox, cursor appears, move finger (while holding) to where it needs to go
Music player app can’t close. Just pause the song.
There's an app if you feel you must remove the player. Last I checked when paused playback is stopped.

    hi mate,
have you got the Portico update installed (check via Settings > Phone Update). also check that you are fully up to date with all the latest Nokia system apps in the Store. failing that, you can try soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates).

  • Nokia Lumia 920 India Launch ! - Some Observations...

    Hi,
Being a Nokia fan for years .. I decided to write this .. I hope people at the right level from Nokia see this.
We all know Nokia Lumia 920 has probably hit all the right spots with Users abroad and the best thing is they are loving it a lot. I probably would like to be one of them soon.
    However I have certain concerns,
When Nokia launced Lumia in India people had high hopes including myself however one thing that I have always found going wrong is the 'PRICING' .. yes such insanely high pricing at launch .. why ? Look at the pricing of Lumia 800 at launch (around 33k) . Look at the pricing of Lumia 900 still (31k) ? .. Lumia 800 now sells around at the price of 19k !! - almost a 40% drop in price.
The basic thinking in the minds of people including me is 'Don't buy a Nokia phone immediately on launch !!'. Why can't this be changed ? - Yes everybody wants to earn profits but in a situation wherein you are more in search for Mindshare .. This does not make sense. Obviously I am no one to teach anybody anything but this is what I feel & what I have felt for years.
If I buy a Nokia Lumia 920 at launch only to find that after 3 months the pricing has come down by 3-5k .. I will not be a Happy Consumer.
Nokia - Launch Lumia 920 at a very competitive price (so that the likes of SGS3 & HTC 8x will feel ashamed) .. Arrive at a price & keep it steady for real long so that the initial adopters are happy & others come to know that Nokia's pricing is real good and will stay that way for long.
Nokia's Lumia are pretty good phones .. they never lag when compared to Android etc however they have not been well received by people here in India. The most common answer that I get is 'Bluetooth not there - can't transfer files' , 'Can't use memory card ' & 'Apps not available'.
Nokia - you have to change this mindset of people because with Windows Phone 8 these things are no longer hindrances ! .. especially Bluetooth & Micro-sd support.
I am expecting your Ads to have this .. be it on Radio or TV or Internet.
Can we have right people on the Job ? - Recently I went to Hypercity Mall (in Mumbai) (Nokia booth). I took in my hand a Lumia 510. I asked how much RAM ? .. to my surprise he answered 512 Mb .. and I was like What ? I asked him to recheck - still the same answer. He said we have confirmed. The phone actually comes with 256 Mb of RAM.
Now imagine what happens to a consumer who brought this phone from him ?
Nokia - Please get the right people at task for Nokia Lumia 920 & 820 because there you have got some real innovations like PureView, OIS, Wireless Charging etc. Ensure that users get the right demo of all the innovations. First impression will be the Last impression.
At Malls (without Nokia booths), the 2 phones Lumia 800 & Lumia 710 lonely guard the booths .. with rarely anybody there to explain about them. Just on the side of it I find Samsung's booth with all the latest flagships standing there & probably someone to explain about it - however Android needs no explanation these days will all aware about it (& even if not aware they know a phone with it is Cool!).
Nokia - Please set your own booths for Lumia (both WP8 & WP7) & assign one of your Guys per Booth. I really don't know the dynamics of setting up booth at a mall & the financial impact of it. All you need to do is differentiate your Lumia's from others.
Alternatively you can have a Lumia Van (or Lumia Vans) running around the City with all the possible Lumia's on it for doing Demo's. All Lumia's - since a person can come up to check a Lumia 510 too & not having a specific Lumia means Dissatisfaction for the user.
Nokia Lumia 920,820 & 620 are gem of a phones .. Hope everything is done right with them in a price sensitive market like India & I hope that Nokia you are listening to a User's opinion here.
Here's someone who wishes real good things for Nokia. Good luck with the launch of Nokia Lumia 920, 820 & 620. Desperately waiting !!

    Hi slon!
    Welcome to Nokia Forum!
Let me answer your question in the same manner you have presented it.
    1. How can I configure networking option for individual application (it was standard option before, see N8)
    - Can you tell me which particular application/s you are referring to? The phone prioritizes WLAN connection over 3G to ensure quality customer experience.
Example: Nokia Maps - when downloading map data, it would require you to use WLAN as phone would require high amount of data.
    2. Where can I find the option like: Automatic, Always ask, WLAN only when using access to data connection
    - These options are not available on the device. However, you can find some settings that are similar to what you are looking for:
Settings>Wifi>Tap on Advanced> you will have the following options:
Notify me when new networks are found
    Automatically connect to Wi-Fi hotspots
Send information about Wi-Fi connections to help discover nearby Wi-Fi
Keep Wi-Fi on when the screen times out

  • Nokia Lumia 920

Hello. why can't I move photos from nokia lumia 920 to iphoto? It's possible?

If it does not work like an iPhone then you need to contact Nokia support - it is not an iPhtoo for Mac issue - iPhoto reacts to cameras and phones that look liek cameras - if your does not then you need help from the phone people

  • Nokia Lumia 920 - Not connecting on MAC OSX 10.6.8

    Hello everybody,
I have this problem that alot of people are encounting but it seems having no solutions yet.
I bought my Nokia Lumia 920 a couple days ago, made all the updates alvaible but still I can't connect my phone to my MacBook Pro.
The funny part is that my dropbox application on my mac detect my phone and tries to import my pictures where neither iTunes or Finder are able to recognize my Nokia.
The all support we got is to download a app which is not working for the OSX 10.6.8 and they seem to force us to upgrade to the 10.7 OSX.
It is my right, as a consummer, to choose to OS I want for my laptop and it is to both Windows and Nokia to make their devices compatible to their customers computers.
So here is my call to all Nokia and Windows developpers: Do not ignore us, there is a problem and the first step in order to solve it is to recognize this problem.
The least you can do is to tell us that you are currently working on it because I feel all alone in the dark but I am pretty sure I am not alone and you might loose some clients that are delighted with your phone but really "**bleep**" off the way that they are treated in the process of solving this important problem.
Thank you for your time and comprehension,
I am looking forward some advices from any developpers.
    JyCey

I have to raise a different view point. Many users of macs are ordinary, non-techie people, who simply want a machine to do basic things. I know people with very old macs, and they are happily using them for simple purposes. I have 10.6.8, and any upgrade would cost me some money to upgrade parallels. Macs can run for years, and I believe that it is important for equipment to be able to be used for long periods of time, if the user wishes. Also, earlier OS are very commonly unsed in coutries where money and internet is not as available as to many of us.
I also use a mac with XP as I need a small install base for only one PC based software that I occasionally use.
As a developer, I would expect them to look at the actual installed back of OS, and realise that some simple functionality should be backward to existing users. The ability for a phone to connect to earlier OS is something which I did not even think about - I thought it would be automatic. Its also not that difficult to develop.
The forums are awash with frustrated new pruchasers of Lumia phones, suddenly realising that their expected functionality with PC Suite, etc has now gone. Many of those people are very frustrated, and they will pass on their frustrations to others, and sales will be affected.
I have been a Nokia user now for about six years, and I have watched the same frustrations of users, requesting Nolia to develop expected connection, integration, and sync software that other phone manufacturers seem to be able to do. Finally, a reasonable PC Suite version is now developed, but not compatible with Lumia?? Do we have to go through the whole waiting thing again? Why cannot Nokia look at this not as a software problem, but an expected functionality feature.

  • Cortana on Nokia Lumia 920 in Sweden?

Is there a scheduled release date for Cortana on Nokia Lumia 920 in Sweden?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It is unknown, currently only the US, UK and I think China have it. Sorry to say that I would expect more widely-spoken languages will be ahead of Swedish.

  • Unlocked Nokia Lumia 920, there are sone things I'...

I'm 14 years old & I do independent schooling, so twice a week I work with my mom. I plan on buying a nokia lumia 920, but since tmobile doesn't have it, I understand I should purchase an unlocked one. My only concern is whether it'll work with T-Mobile's data plan, calling/messaging, and the internet. I dont know if this is a silly question, but I never learned about this kind of stuff in school, can anyone please help me out? Thanks!

  • Nokia Lumia 920 CANNOT be repaired?

    Hi,
I purchased a Nokia Lumia 920 not very long ago, and even though it hung on me within the first hour of me having the phone.. I was pretty happy with it. Sadly, I happened to spill some water on it and promptly took it to a Nokia Care Center here in India (at Irla). They told me they will have to send it to the Nokia 'Main Center' at New Delhi. I reconfirmed this with another Nokia Care Center (at Ghatkopar) - and allowed them to ship my phone to New Delhi. Now they have returned the phone saying that it CANNOT be repaired. I am at a complete loss of words... WORSE things happened to my Blackberry & my previous Nokia phone (my earlier Nokia was completely submerged in water and it still worked!!!) and they were repaired within virtually no time.
Please someone help me understand -
    1. Is Nokia Lumia 920, THAT fragile and I made a complete fool of myself buying the phone?
    2. Is there anyone else, anywhere in the world, who can help me repair my phone?
    Thanks,
    Anita Shyam.

It's pointless trying to repair a water damaged phone because mineral deposits from the water will eventually corode the internal electronics causing the phone to fail completely at some point in the future.
Yes, that can happen, and I can see that a repairer wouldn't want to give any warranty on such a repair, but it's not pointless for the owner if the only other option is to discard the phone and buy another.  Many drenched phones go on to work for years after careful, thorough drying out.
One of my kids' phones recovered after a trip through our washing machine.  In that case admittedly I had to open it up and wash it with clean water and a soft brush to get rid of soap residue and corrosion, but after a week or two in the airing cupboard it was as good as new.

PS  My top tip for anyone who does inadvertantly dunk their phone in water is get the battery out straight away.

  • Download different file types on nokia lumia 920

    Hi,
I recently got myself a nokia lumia 920.. Great phone i must say, however i find this phone is more limiting than the iPhone, or a cheap black berry curve
Firstly, you cannot download anything from the internet that is not compatible with the phone, for example, .exe, .zip, .dll etc etc. This is the most annoying thing for me, as i constantly need to download software, drivers and tools to copy later to my computer. The other night i urgently needed internet access on my PC, and wanted to tether using my phone, NO USB tether support - HOW LAME!. anyways, i got myself a wireless card for my PC, but did not have the drivers for it... And could not download the drivers using my Lumia. So i managed to get the micro sim working in my old blackberry 9300 curve, and successfully downloaded my wifi drivers. So not being able to download anything either than apps and pictures on this lumia makes it a huge fail, what is the use of having so much storage and high broadband speed on this phone?
    Next is the bluetooth,
I hate it! cannot define what services to connect over bluetooth... for example:
I have a bluetooth enabled radio in my car, and connect my Lumia to it. Works great for phone calls, however if you lock/unlock the phone, type a message or use the phone in anyway, it cuts whatever is playing on my radio and changes it to bluetooth audio mode... Now with my previous phones, blackberry, samsung etc. i could set the bluetooth service to only work as handsfree, and not stream all my phone's audio through to bluetooth. With the nokia Lumia, there is no options when it comes to bluetooth, either on or off - LAME
    And then the magnetic charger....
Does not work, charged the phone until full, next morning the phone is off - dead flat (6hours after fully charged)
I exchanged the charger twice already, and sent the phone in for repairs, this problem is still not resolved. So i have been using my old blackberry charger to charge the lumia - lasts +- 1.5 days now with constant usage.
The nokia lumia has all the basic smart phone stuff - GPS navigation, exchange email supp, sync drive(skydrive etc), USB connectivity and storage, and internet tether - but the limiting options for downloading and bluetooth make this phone less of a smart phone than my blackberry curve. This phone is just pretty, and should only be used by people who want something fancy and limited, or developers that need to test apps on windows mobile 8.

Did you check the detailed Info of the Application ? Does it mention the functionality which you think is missing ?

  • Nokia Lumia 920 wifi not working

    Hi
My brand new Nokia Lumia 920 cannot connect to my wifi.
It keeps saying that I type the wrong password, which i do not.
All other devices in my house connect just fine.
I have tried switching channel on my router and change from WPA PSK to WEP but nothing helps.
    Any suggestions?

I'll link to another discussion that had a resolution that worked for me. This is the only place I saw a resolution for the problem.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp8-wpnetwork/lumia-920-refuses-to-connect-to-wifi...
Basically, I changed my router settings from mixed 802.11 b/g to 802.11 g only. Now it connects, no problem.
    Good luck.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 wont open applications and hot

I've had my nokia lumia 920 for 4 months now and really liking it. In the last few weeks it has begun to misbehave.
Basically when browsing internet or using apps the back of the phone gets quite hot and then when I try and open things like messaging or people or something lile that I get a black screen with "resuming" displayed and then the it simply returns to the home screen again. The strange thing it does not happen when I am calling someone or someone calls me. It seems apps not opening starts when the phone is getting hot and the only way to resolve it to restart. All this happens within 10-15mins of use.
I know people have mentioned that some apps causing problems skype being one of them, but i dont have a great deal of apps just the usual stuff facebook, ebay, twitter etc.
Does anyone else have this problem, is it hardware or software related, like i said my phone has been fine up until a few weeks ago would appreicate any feedback people may have on how to resolve.

I had exactly the same problem, 4month old 920 that suddenly started playing up. I ended up doing a factory reset (down vol + power, then down, power, down,up or something similar). So no extra apps and the same problems, I would do around 6 soft resets followed by a factory reset a day before I gave in and took it to O2 for repair at the weekend.
Whenever I got the black screen, (clock top right) and resuming displayed, the battery got really hot. After factory reset the battery cooled down but the remaining percentage had dropped by about 10%. I tried a factory reset and not putting my SIM back in but same deal. The only apps on it were the factory ones so I'm still not sure what causes the problem. Hopefully it will come back fixed and not just have a factory reset.
If the repair engineer explains what the problem is I will let you know.
