Nokia Maps 2.0 update: what's new?

The version number of Nokia Maps 2.0 went up a bit, from 2.0.2102 to 2.0.2204. So apparently there was still something left to fix after the beta test was over.
The Nokia Maps site now has a new movie which is nothing more than a useless commercial.
But a changelog is nowhere to be found.
Does anyone know what was fixed/changed/improved between 2.0.2102 and 2.0.2204?

A couple of new features that I have noticed in 2.0 are the ability to take screenshots of the maps, and also a satellite view available in some cases.

  • Ovi Maps 3.6.688 - what's new in this version?

Hi, since today my C6-01 Ovi Store is showing an update for Ovi Maps: 3.6.688.
Does anybody know what's new in this release? I would like to know before I update my phone.
    Cheers!

Sure you got the right number / phone setting in ovi store?
Because 688 ist the ending of
    ovi_maps_installer_3_06_11wk10_b01_s60_5_0_196688.sis
which is available from ovi store for X6 since april/march and has Version 3.06(637).
    Otherwise there is
    ovi_maps_inst_3_06_11wk23_b05_tb9_2_PS2_195660.sis
for C6-01 which is 12 weeks younger but I don't know the Version because it won't work on my 5800XM.
You may contact publisher via as mentionend in ovi store to get info about changes...

  • 2.2 Update-What's new in it?

    Hello
Just wondering if someone could tell me what in the world is new about my phone after doing this update.  I just did the update with no problems, but i'm not real sure what all of the buzz is about.  Thanks in advance!

The main thing is FLASH PLAYER. It ROCKS! .. over wifi. Also the ability to erase contact history rocks! If you are using advanced task killer make sure you use "advanced task killer froyo" and not the non froyo.

  • I want my Nokia E72-1 mobile updated to all new so...

what can i do to my mobile to update the latest softwares of E72-1 ????

The lastest version for E72-1 is 091.004. It is also believed the last official update for S60 devices, hence no more update to be expected.
What's your version now? You may get a quick answer by typing *#0000# at your E72's home screen.
You may try to update the phone over air. Go to Menu > Control Panel > Phone > Device Manager, press Option > Check For Updates. You may also simply type *#0000# to enter the Device Manager.
If your phone can't be updated this way, you need to check your product code, change the code if necessary, and update the firmware using Nokia Suite accordingly.
Your phone's product code can be seen on the motherboard at back once the battery is removed.

  • What's New Pictures Broken after Lumia 900 Update

Just updated last night and now the pictures in the What's New section of the People is broken.    It looks like I can open it because the picture does an action, but it does not open.  Help!  Can I roll back?

Thank you. I tried disabling my other extensions, but not CTR; the UI breaks in a weird way if CTR is disabled, and I have to manually restore it after reenabling the extension.

  • CK-300 CarKit , CarMenu and Nokia Maps 3.0 on New ...

I'm going to post here as someone may be able to suggest something....
There are so many threads on the CK-300 and this is yet one more to cover latest software releases.
    Here is the setup:
    1. I have the CK-300 CarKit with latest v1.5 CarKit software flashed.
    2. I have the CarMenu with the latest v2.6 software
    3. I have the latest version of Nokia Maps 3.0 installed on the new 6710 Navigator.
    Here are the problems:
    Problem Number One
I cannot get voice guidance when Nokia Maps is running. The ONLY way I can get voice guidance to come through the CK-300 CarKit is by selecting "Music Player Mode" in the CarMenu application and starting a music track playing (or paused).
    > Does anyone else have this issue?
    > Is there something I am missing?
Events are set to ALL in the CarMenu settings!! As discussed in other threads.
    Problem Number Two
The volume level of Maps 3.0 Voice Navigation through the CK-300 is Very Low despite the volume turned up to maximum in the Maps 3.0 application. If I play a track in "Music Player Mode" in CarMenu the volume through the CK-300 is just fine (and MUCH louder). There is an in-balance in volume between the two sources of audio.
    > Is there a way to further boost ONLY the voice navigation volume when navigating with Maps 3.0?
This difference in audio volume is quite annoying if you want to listen to music and voice navigation at the same time.
Any help much appreciated as ever. Hope this makes sense.
    Jon

    Dear jonphelps,
firstly, may I guide you to CarMenu version 2.8 beta which is actually the latest. (Maybe, it is not so clearly stated on our pages.)
You will also find it also on CarMenu (below sections concerning version 2.6) and Nokia 6710 Navigator has been tested compatible (apologies if it not yet mentioned there).
Moreover, may I ask how your car kit is connected to the car stereo system? We recommend the following:
Use CK-300 with CarMenu and connect music output of hands-free unit to AUX input for car stereo system.
    - If music player is not running on phone than navigation prompts are routed to the telephony line, i.e. depending on settings (see below) the CRM (Car Radio Mute) will be activated to make navigation audible through the stereo system.
    - Setting in CarMenu should be set to "All audio events" to activate CRM for phone calls, SMS indications and navigation prompts.
    - In case music is played on phone assumingly AUX is connected, too; i.e. in this case navigation prompts are routed to the music output; assuming that AUX is selected to listen to music from mobile device navigation prompts are also audible.
    I hope this helps further.
    Best regards,
    smarty

  • Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps - do I need both?

I am sure this question has been asked already but I cannot find it having spent some time doing a search.
The question is do I need both or can I dispense with one? If so, with what consequences?
The position is that I tried to update Ovi maps but couldn't because there was insufficient space on drive C, so I thought I would delete it and then I would be able to install the new version. Unfortunately wrong again - still insufficient space on drive C. Hence my question - do I need both maps? Life would be easier just with Nokia maps in the circumstances.

Thanks. Can I take it that Nokia Maps is pre-installed? Would I be correct in concluding that I can delete Ovi Maps to save space and just update Nokia Maps from time to time?
If Nokia Maps is not updated from time to time I would need to install Ovi Maps to keep up-to-date?
I have I think deleted Ovi Maps but I still have Maps. In fact I am fairly certain I have all the maps I downloaded from OVi Maps. When I run Maps the screen refers to "Ovi Maps". Perhaps I haven't uninstalled Ovi Maps at all although the programme said that I had! Perhaps it is Ovi Maps that is pre-installed.
Sorry but I remain confused and hope I can through this tread clear it up once and for all.

  • Nokia Maps Suite 2.0

I've just used Nokia Suite to install Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 on a N8 running Belle.  I had been reading about it here: http://blog.maps.nokia.com/nokia-maps/download-nokia-maps-suite-on-your-nokia-belle-device#more-1929...
(When the installation said less than a minute left, it actually took much longer, around six minutes.  I was worried the program had crashed, so I tried to start it on my phone anyway, and right after that, the installation completed.)
According to the version information on the phone, I now have:
       Version  v3.09 12wk09 b05
       MW OpenGL MN
       Map version 0.2.45.110
I've got a few questions - the very first one being whether there is a document posted somewhere explaining how to use the new software?  Or, is it to be trial and error on my part?
Next, I accidentally created a new "favorite" while trying things out - I can delete it by going to my favorites list, and doing a long-press on that favorite, to bring up the box with "delete".  Should I be able to delete favorites on the main Maps page as well?  I think that's how I used to do it ages ago.
I did a search for a local bagel restaurant, and eventually found it.  I clicked on the little "i" (for information?) at the right side of the listing, and got their street address.  Should I also have gotten their phone number?  It would be nice if not only the phone number showed up, but if I could click on it to call them.
From the website about the program listed above:
"For our UK users, new Voice Search lets you get directions simply by speaking, so you can now navigate hands-free! Tap on the microphone icon next to the search box and speak your destination. Voice Search will be available for more countries and languages soon."  Is this included in what I just downloaded, and will it work in the USA and India?
Finally, I read something in this forum posted recently: "If you're still having issues trying the latest beta version from here should fix the issue: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-maps-suite "    Is this version even newer than the one I just downloaded?  Which do you recommend?  Can you explain the differences?
First impressions are very positive.  The list we put together for Bell problems/issues can be found here:  /t5/Software-Updates/List-of-Belle-additions-corrections-needed/td-p/1328167/page/5 .   The issues for previous versions of maps were:
MAPS-- Ability to delete or edit map favorites from Drive (can be done from Maps).
MAPS-- Re-enable the auto/Bluetooth connection to work with Nokia Maps Navigation.Camera & video
MAPS-- Re-enable the auto/Bluetooth connection to work with Nokia Maps Navigation
MAPS-- Return the English "surfer dude" voice to  Voice Navigation on the N8.
MAPS-- Not possible to delete maps history.
MAPS-- provide a simple and convenient method to import and export GPS coordinates
MAPS-- Map widget doesn't support rotation with fingers
MAPS-- No backup ability for map favorites without going on-line
I'm hoping when some of us test these in the new version, we'll be able to mark them as "solved"

    Mike_Myers_N8 wrote:
Well, my suggestions are as follows:
    Backup -
As to GPS, I when the phone displays the information about a "favorite", the GPS co-ordinates should be displayed right there.
I will have to test the other way as well - there should be a way to enter the GPS co-ordinates of a place you're interested in.  I did that years ago before even Anna was released, and it was very handy.  GPS co-ordinates are a "standard", a "universal" way of describing a location.
It's nice that the software can do all the things it does with the internet/cloud, but that should all be in addition to the basic ways of doing it, not instead of.  ....at least that's my opinion.
I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow - will have several days to work with the new Maps software, and see what I think.  First impressions are mostly good!  ...and thanks for your help!
Points taken on backup. I don't actually use backups much myself preferring to copy files manually. What could be an idea for Nokia Suite is to be able to define additional filetypes or folders to be syncd.
Agreed that display of lat/long would be useful on the favorite page, in fact I would go further and wish for the coordinates to also be displayed in 'local' coordinate systems as well.
You can search by lat/long (eiter as DMS or decimal degrees) as shown in the attachment. Again I would like it to go further as I would prefer to have been able to search for the point i used as 'SP 487 169'. Incidentally I tried the same lat/long coordinate search with google maps, on the N8 and my android tablet, and found that rather than it returning the point i was searching for it decided to choose a nearby address, so in terms of searching Nokia is way ahead.
Hope you have a god trip and maps proves useful. Since getting the N8 I have completly given up using my dedicated satnav and gps recievers, as well as compact camera.

  • Nokia maps 3.08 problem

I installed Nokia maps 3.08 update on 12th November. Now I have found a bug with it. Even after I close the maps properly from exit option, it just sits in RAM eating up around 6MB of precious RAM. I cant "kill" it even with RAMBLOW app that I have installed on my phone. Only way to stop it is to reboot phone. This was not something that had been the case with the earlier version. Is there any way to roll back to previous version 3.06?
In Love With My C6-01:Now running on Nokia Belle!

    Hi All
I have noticed that Maps are running even after exiting it....and it can be seen by using Apps Stop or Netquin Mobile Guard or any other task managers. Also it is very clear that the back ground running maps consumes 6mb of RAM.
Interesting thing I noticed is if you check the Apps Stop or any other task manager while running the Maps 3.08, you can see two maps are running back ground. One is rounded in Shape & the 3.08 map is square with rounded corners. From this I beleive that the map which is running background is from the previous version ( 3.06) and it is like that becoz of some overlapping bugs while updating the existing maps to 3.08.
If you want to see two maps apps running back ground.....open the maps icon in your menu or home screen and press menu button to return home screen. Then open Apps stop or any other task manager and you can see the two maps running.
Hope everything will be okay soon.
    thanks

  • Updates to the nokia maps application

It's becoming clear that after adding support for the e71 and e66 no other "old" device will be migrated to the last ovi maps.
these older devices will stick to 3.01 and the 10$ annual fee per region
    ok let's accept this but...
it has been widely reported that the routing algorithm has some flaws in choosing the best route. there are many examples in this forum.
so i expect that it will be impoved in the future.
these improvements will be only for devices running 3.03 and later or will be they be backported also to 3.01?
this is quite important because a bad routing algorithm is very bad for a navigation application even if it is "cheap".

    hybris wrote:
the point is that now it's clear that there are 2 different software developing paths, one for new devices and one for old devices....will be this paths be both developed or the old devices is dead?
What "different development paths"? 3.03 is a newer version of the same software as 3.01, with new features and possibly some bug fixes too. I don't think there will be 3.01.1, if that's what you are expecting.
It is no secret that every now and then some older phone models will not get the latest OVI maps release. At least for me 3.01 is working quite well, so I don't see the problem with being "stuck" to 3.01, as long as they keep churning out map and POI updates also for 3.01. (I am not actually stuck to 3.01, but for now I prefer it to 3.03.)
Sometimes I feel Nokia must have the most demanding and cheapskate customers...

  • Nokia Maps Updates after January 1 2014?

    hi there,
as i still love the X7 (Symbian belle refresh) maps and navigation much more than that of my Lumia 620. I wonder if there will be updates of the maps after january 1?
Thanks if anyone understands more what the news mean for the updates of the maps.
    regards,
    X7Fan

What it will remain from Nokia once they will be bought by Microsoft? Who will keep update Symbian Maps?
If they will stop update Symbian Maps, Stephen Elop's malefic hand will lost Nokia Symbian customers for good...
IMHO, we will depend on Microsoft... And, probably, they will give a s..t about us, Symbian users. Like Elop/Microsoft does about Nokia.

  • Nokia Maps lost after firmware update

I had Nokia Maps installed on my N73 some time ago, it worked without problems. Now when I updated the phone software to v4.735.3.0.2 it is included in the base software. But the new version (1.2) does not show any map data - only a blank screen (and the globe).
I use only the free parts - no network, no GPS, no guides. The maps I downloaded with Map Loader. It has a new version too, so I installed it, deleted the old maps and re-downloaded some of them. But they still do not show onscreen.
There is also a downloadable version of Nokia Maps 1.2, but it cannot install on the phone - some error appears. Neither can I uninstall the version on the phone - it says "Cannot delete file".
What is the problem? Is it that the phone language is Bulgarian, while the maps are in English (there are no maps in Bulgarian)? It was not a problem before, and the UI still appears in Buglarian.
Or, maybe there are some trays of the older version which I can delete manually. In fact, it was first installed in phone memory (so were the maps). Then, I moved the maps to the memory card, and after a previous phone software update, I installed the application on the memory card too.
Please help me find the maps. Thanks!

I managed to view the maps somehow:
    1. Connect the USB in card reader mode
    2. Download the maps using MapLoader
    3. While the memory card is connected, copy and paste the \private\20001f63\diskcache folder to \cities\diskcache in Windows Explorer
    4. Disconnect only from the tray icon on the desktop
    5. The maps are now visible.
This is obviously not a perfect solution. The maps use double space on the memory card. The network cannot be used to update them, only Map Loader. After any download the steps above must be reapplied.
The application cannot be uninstalled/reinstalled. It seems all the problems appeared when Nokia Maps was included in the firmware and concern users which had installed it before on phone memory. I hope they will be resolved in next software update from Nokia.
