• Nokia map app missing

I have a problem that after i reset my phone to factory setting i found that the nokia map app is missing i try to solve the problem but i could not solve please someone try to resolve this problem

As Asha 305 does not have embedded GPS positioning would rely upon network cell tower triangulation which is pretty ineffectual and for this reason Nokia Maps may have been excluded from later software updates.

• Nokia Maps need signal check option

Yes, when I connect by 1º time ando no signal of GPS I must exit from it and go to Garmin than it has signal metter.
Would be fine than Nokia Maps at his menu has a option to access to a signal meter.... or as is from the same Nokia, an option to access to same meter as Location > GPS data > Options > Satellite Status

@leo3487
Are you saying that your N97 Mini doesn't have Menu > Applications > Location > GPS data > Position > Options > Satellite Status or that algorithm utilised by Garmin Mobile Xt seems to produce satellite strength reading faster?

• Nokia Maps Icon Missing?

Good day everyone.
i have just bought this new Nokia Asha 303 phone and i thought the software installed in the phone is incomplete because i cant seem to find the shortcut for nokia maps. I installed the nokia suite in my pc and check for software updates and it is up to date. I already tried factory reset, but nothing, still the same. Is it possible to restore the missing icon? thanks for any help.
sorry for bad english

Right after having my new phone I started exploring its possibilities testing applications from Ovi store. At some point I got some problems with an application so I decided it would be a good idea to try a reset... I first try with an app settings reset to defaults (from the s40 Configuration menu, not the Restoring Factory Defaults menu)... right after that I realized I didn't have Nokia Maps icon in any of the lists of installed applications, nor I could found any loader in both file units, phone and memory card, for it... I was not 100% sure the icon vanished after settings reset, but I supposed it, so I thought something went definitely wrong and I decided to try reset to factory defaults as I just started testing the phone so I hadn't any information saved there to lose... what I could not expect it's that a factory reset will not yield the software at the same very state as what I received short time before. In addition to not getting back the Nokia Maps icon, I noticed another difference in the system, I have an Introduction icon in the list of default applications, that triggers a video playback showing the phone basics... now when I push that button, the playback starts but only for the audio, and instead of the video I show a black screen with a NOKIA logo in the center, the same very screen I see when boot up the phone. I've seen https://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/nokia-maps-suite/bugreport/46316/nokia-map-icon-missing-after-inst... this problem is not happening only on s40 OS phones, but at least on Symbian^3 phones they had a stand alone installer to install back the app http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-08 Something like this seems what s40 OS phone users like me are needing.

• Tracking option in Latest Nokia Maps gone

Hi everyone, Ive updated my Nokia Maps on N95. Used their 3 days free trial, and now the tracking option has disappeared from the route menu. On the old version you could plan a route from A to B, and instead of Navigating there, you could use the Start Tracking option. This seems to be no longer available. Now if I plan a route, it wants me to buy the navigation stuff. Has any one else had this problem. The maps app is practically useless now unless you want to buy a licence key.

I too was made a victim of Nokia's failure to inform 'Maps' users of the lack of Tracking capabilities in the latest version of Nokia Maps.
I couldn't have been more dissapointed with the latest installment of a program which i had previously been very happy with! My reasons are simply,
1) I don't think the interface is accesible as that in previous versions of Nokia Maps
2) The lack of tracking capabilities
Like so many of you in this discussion i updated Maps and found i disliked the update and wanted to revert back to the latter version, easier said than done but i managed to do it...
First I performed a Hard Reset (*#7780#): WARNING, i recommend backing up the phones data first, i found this out the hard way!
After setting the country, time, date etc i found that Nokia Maps and a number of other Applications had been replaced by another set of icons and were named differently, eg. Nokia Maps now couldn't be opened and was called Smart2Go.
To rectify the apparently worsened problem i downloaded the Nokia Software Updater which informed me that although i had the latest Firmware i could reinstall it - i did this and PROBLEM SOLVED!
I hope by sharing my experience others might have their problem solved. I think the solution lies in reinstalling the phones software on Software Updater.

• Nokia Maps 3.0 crash bug with E75 firmware 201.12....

Phone: E75-1 / Type RM-412
Firmware: 201.12.01
Nokia Maps 3.0
I haven't seen this reported anywhere... but then again maybe I don't master the advanced search so well, apologies if this is a duplicate.
Nokia Maps crashes my phone when launching it.
The phone just switches itself off after the app opens (and shows me a map with a red dot on it) .
I haven't done anything to the phone apart from upgrading the firmware in the past few weeks, and after fiddling with the options, I discovered that the crash is due to an option that is active by default under Positioningmethods: Network based.
Disabling it makes everything go back to normal.
I don't remember this option from the previous firmware version at all? Is there an update to Nokia Maps that I have missed? (the beta labs version isn't available for this device)

Hi mika123
There have always been four available options in Positioning Method: Bluetooth GPS, Assisted GPS, Integrated GPS and Network GPS of which the latter three are ticked by default.
Surprised that Network GPS causes issues as is just using triangulation from cell towers but in case of some network providers packets of data do have to be sent and received.

Moderator's note: We have provided a subject-related title to help other forum users easily view and respond to this post.

You seem to be making duplicate posts concerning this issue. It's not that simple as Nokia have been removing Nokia Maps application from devices without integral GPS chip as relying solely upon network triangulation for positioning is just too inaccurate, this may explain why it is now missing.

• 6110 notes: Route 66 and Nokia Map (Smartogo) in a...

Hi,
Just sharing some observations after trying out the two maps for navigation in a city.
a) Responsiveness: Route66 is definitely more responsive in re-routing once you drive off the recommended route. It typically provide new directive immediately, whereas Nokia map will take a couple of seconds for recalculations.
b) Quality of re-route: When a route is missed, Route66 seems to provide more 'human-like' new route. Whereas, Nokia Map seems to work on partial re-route, and try to find the "next possibility" with the objective to make a "U-turn" to get back to the previous calculated route. The difference is important in real life, since making U-turns in an un-familiar location can be dangerous, but more importantly, can dis-orientate most people who are not adept in navigation in the first place. So, Route66 seems to be smarter than 'smartogo' on this respect.
c) User interface: Nokia Map (smartogo) seems to be lacked of the short-cut keys that Route66 already provice (such as key 5, 6 etc). Also, the satellite info page seems rudimental.
However, the screen layout of the Nokia Map seems more useful than Route66, but Route66 has more fancy graphics. So, it is clear that Route66 has been optimised for novice in navigation, making it as easy as possible.
d) Voice navigation: Route66 seems to be straight-to-the-point, i.e. clear instruction. Nokia Map tends to be a bit more chatty and delayed. For example, quite frequently, it would say "next possibility", which is useless, except seems to project to me that it is not sure. Also, by the time it finished saying 'possibility', you already missed the turn out.
When one is on the road and decide to rely on the voice navigation, just tell me what to do at the right time, cut out the sweet talks.
e) Landmark management. This one, Nokia Map is definitely one up.
Well, it seems that Route66 is the way to go at this point since it seems a more mature product. However, I think Nokia Map has many tricks up the sleeves, it seems, especially in terms of integration with other applications.
I still love google map for the satellite view, nothing can beat having a preview of the terrain of the route one selects. However, this is not for everybody, I admit.

I find Route66 also tends to keep trying to send me back to the route it initially calculated for far too long after I've diverted off - usually to avoid traffic jams.
The one feature I would really like on Route66 - and which I always assumed would be in any routing software - is a "find me another route that avoids this road" option. Can't understand why that one isn't available as the code that handles the real time traffic data could easily be adapted to do it.

• Traffic information in Nokia Maps

Is it possible to include this option in Nokia Maps in future? I am asking, because in PC version this option exists. So, doesn't it will be great to enjoy it in mobile version?

I have a Nokia E7 and I am using my N9 as my primary phone right now, but I can say, I miss the Navigation on the E7, it was simpler, faster, had more optoions and features, and the live traffic on the E7 is excellent, very good Navigation App. I Love the facebook check in via Nokia Maps on my E7, where as with the N9 there is no functional check in at all unless via 3rd party apps (Fmobi) so yes, I would like to see the same Symbian Nokia Maps brought to the N9 as well as upcoming Windows PHone devices, it is a setp backwards in its current form.

• CityExplorer (Guides) not available in Nokia Maps ...

Hi,
I upgraded my N95 to Nokia Maps 3.0.
Downloaded the latest Nokia Map Loader (3.0). But there I can't download any Services as in the old Map Loader.
There are no Global guides from Lonely Planet, Michelin, and WCities possible to download, as described in on the Nokia Maps homepage.
CityExplorer Services
I have purchased a 2 years licens for CityExplorer. But anyway, it's not possible to download with Noka Map Loader 3.0.
Downloaded Nokia Map Loader 2.0.2 instead, there the folder "Services" is still available. But when I click on that, it always tells me:
Connection to the map server has been interruped. Make sure your Internet connection is working and retry. If you are still unable to download, try again later."

All right. So with POI you mean for example the petrol stations, restaurants, or shopping centers near my position?
I find them when I select "Explore" in the Map 3.0 menu.
Also, when I click on "Show Detail" at my current possion, or at one of the POI's I can select, and I have the internet connection online at that moment, then I will see the actuall weather information for this place.
The same when I click on the places I have saved under "Favorits". When I click on "show details", then I see the weather information about this point. (when Internet connection is on). - Nice!
But anyway, I'm missing the "Lonely Planet & Michelin" guides. Also I haven't found the "WCities entertainment" yet, described in in the link I posted in my previous post. Maybe it's only available for a few cities.

• Costs of Nokia Maps Navigation

License costs for Drive (turn-by-turn) UK navigation using Nokia Maps (v3) appears to be €6.49 per 30 days, or €59 for 12 months. Yet you can buy symbian versions of third-party GPS nabvigation software (e.g. Garmin XT or Navigon MobileNavigator) for a one off cost of around £60.
Probably I am missing something here ... is there a need to pay subscriptions on Garmin/Navigon, or is using Nokia Maps just a very expensive option?
Nokia E6-00 SIM free
Mac User

I guess that this another case of 'horses for courses' ...
the Nokia maps model is very flexible, if as in timppu's example, you use a 30-day license to cover driving on vacation etc. However it seems that third-party approaches might be cheaper for longer-term intermittent use, if one is prepared not regularly purchase updated maps from Garmin (or whoever) and drive on last years maps.
On reflection my needs for SatNav turn-by-turn driving instructions are so occasional and intermittent that I might do better to buy daily or monthly licenses as required.
Many thanks for your comments

• Nokia Maps is a giant step backwards

My relevant background - I live in Los Angeles, owned an HTC HD7S for more than a year and just recently got a Lumia 920. I like everything about my new 920 except vibration noise, and this horrid Nokia Maps app which is forced on us...
Problems with Nokia Maps:
Lack of integration with the rest of the operating system.
Nokia maps is an island to itself. I click an address from a people hub contact, it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address from a Bing search which has a dedicated hardware button, and it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address in an email, you guessed it, it opens Windows Phone maps.
Searching in Nokia Maps has terrible results
I tried 3 searches today during the course of my day using Nokia Maps. Si Laa is a Thai restaurant I wanted to try a few miles from my house with an obviously unique name. The results I get are for Joyce Cafe, something in Germany and Slovenia. Next I try UPS in hopes it will find the company owned UPS Customer Center a quarter mile from my house. It doesn't find it at all, but does find alot of ups stores that are further away. Nokia Maps choked on another restaurant in Beverly Hills I tried to find. My wife's iPhone 4s had no problems with any of these.
Local surface street traffic info is missing
On the Lumia 920, I don't get any surface street traffic info. I do see traffic info for highways and freeways. I used to get local surface street traffic on my old HD7S Windows Map. Windows Phone Maps shows some sporadic street traffic data but is not quite right either. I called Nokia about it, the level 1 techie tells me I'm supposed to have local street traffic but has no further explanation and has escalated to level 2...
Nokia removed the Windows Phone Maps.
As shown in the first point above, Windows maps is still clearly on the phone, but Nokia removed the tile for it from the app list. There doesn't seem to be a way to directly open Windows maps. This would be fine except that Nokia maps, which is supposed to be the replacement, is worse than Windows Phone maps in so many ways.
There isn't a single reason to use Nokia Maps over Windows Phone Maps.
The only reason I use it is because Nokia has seen fit to make Windows Phone Maps hard to start by removing it from the apps list.
Nokia should leave both map apps available and in the apps list.
If Nokia Maps is the superior product, people will use it. Right now I'd say Windows Phone maps is superior in every way and that's a shame for Nokia who is supposed to be a mapping leader...

Hi - Do you have latest versions? As mine works fine see below.
I can select a contacts address, see it on the map, then request directions and then swith to drive each step with one tap of an option or icon

I needed to find a vet the other day. Did a seaarch and then onto drive easily. Same works using Nokia City Lens. select a place and then walk or drive.

• Nokia Maps is just stays calulating a route?

Hello.
I have just got my N95 8G phone. I Hard reset it, install new firmware and got a 7 day trial of Nokia maps.
I try to get it to calulate a route, even a very short one and it just never finnished calculating a route.
I saw a few others online having same problems, so then decideed to install Map loader v2. This software just freezes at startup logo, I guess this isnt Vista 64 compatible?
I then installed the older map load v1.1 and this works. I remove all old maps, and install the voice and map data from scratch, this makes no difference.
Question is, is this a phone fault or software fault, and is there a soloution?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Ok, it seems I have solved it. I did the following.
1:format the mass storage.
2:Hard reset.
3:Reinstalled v30 -18 firmware.
4:installed the maps and voice.
Had no effect.
5: Downladed Nokia map update (Beta)
http://www.nokia.com/A41433075
The phone crashed repetedly when either opening Nokia Maps, or sellect add licence key, or words to that effect.
After several attempts I mannaged to add the licence key.
6: I when to Menu/Tools/connectivity GPS Data. Select Position, then options/Satalite status and left the phone on windw seal untill I got at least a 4 bar filled lock.
7: When to nokia maps sellected a destination and it worked.
Next at your own risk:
I then debranded the phone, re installed the firmware v30-18 again which put the older maps in again, but continued to work, i.e calculated the route within 15 seconds.

• Nokia map problems

Hi guys ,
i hav downloaded the maps into my N73 . But everytime i start nokia map, dere is no map . onli green background. can access the options ,but then i scroll left rite up down oso cant find a single map.
i hav download sg , malaysia map into it. Must it work wif a bluetooth GPS or can it work alone .
I dun nid the gps still i noe the place i am in .
Anyone encounter this prob?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

This is what you have to do. Since you have downloaded maps for Malaysia and sg, you have to tell maps to position you at a location that is covered by the map. At the moment the phone could think you are in Finland, hence no map.
So what you do is run Maps, goto Options>Find Place>Address. Now type an adress in singapore for instance then goto options>search. Select and you should see the location on the sg map.
