Nokia Maps loaded up to 90% then it bombed out.

Please, I upgraded my Nokia Maps to V2.0 and now when it is started it load up to 90% then it bombed out. Rebooted the phone (N95 8GB) and it did the same thing.
I tried to reinstall the application, format the memory and reset the N95's configurations without success.
I was not able to remove the nokia maps to try a completely new installation.
Thanks for any help.
Solved!

The problem is not with the map data so it has to be with the application. Since Nokia Maps is embeded in the firmware you will not be able to uninstall and reinstall the normal way.
To reinstall the firmware you will either have to reinstall the firmware or at least to reformat the phone. As the reformat is less drastic, this is what I recommend you try at this stage.
First, backup your phone. I recommend backing up to both mass storage and your pc.
Once you have backed up your phone, use the *#7370# code to reformat.
Once this is done, Nokia Maps should revert to the version that came with the phone, but it should work. You could if you want, try to update it to the latest version after that.

  • Nokia Map Loader Error in connection

    Hi Guys,
I have an N80 and have the MAPS software installed on my phone and the Nokia Map Loader software on my Laptop. However, in order for me to download the maps I have to connect my N80 to my laptop in Data Transfer Mode and then run Nokia Map Loader. This should then allow me to download the Maps. I get an error when connecting to my laptop in Data Transfer Mode. It just says Invalid usb connection or something like that. No I don't think it is the maps software but I would like to know if any of you had the same problem before and how it can be resolved. I sent a note to Nokia Tech team to see if they know but it takes a while for them to get back to you.
So, does anybody know how I can get past this or get the MAPS downloaded?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

can´t connect nokia map loader, error, won´t work?
I had this same problem, found your post looking for an answer (lol), and I just SOLVED the problem ; )
First, you don´t connect in data transfer mode. You must use pc suite mode, or it won´t work.
Second, (and this is the tricky part), YOU HAVE TO INSTALL nokia maps on your smartphone (so far ok, we all know this), but then you have to RUN THE PROGRAM ONCE.
Don´t ask me why, but if you just install nokia maps, then try to connect with nokia map loader, it won´t work. You have to install the program then run it once. Exit the program, then connect to you pc (nokia map loader) with pc suite mode.
BTW, do NOT install nokia maps on your smartphone on the phone memory. ALWAYS USE THE CARD MEMORY, install nokia maps on your memory card, because the maps are so huge. Most phones won´t have enough internal space.
So this is it, no more suffering. Damn, I´m good ; )

  • A very strange thing happening with Nokia Map Load...

I am trying to load new maps onto my x6.
When I click on Nokia Map Loader it tells me that another instance of the programme is running and that I need to close that one down first.
But this is not the case. I have no other programmes running.
It mentioned that I might have the maps updater programme running. Again that wasn't true.
I uninstalled both and started again.
    Same problem.
I try launching map loader through pc suite. Same thing.
I am really flummoxed and I hope someone can help.
    Thank you.

Did you set up "hot corners" for Expose?
I bet you have the up/left corner set for "Application Windows" then when you move over and have no apps open you get the warning noise. When you move slowly you just don't hit the corner to triger expose

    Hi leobox1,
The latest PC suite version is 7.0.8.2. So if you are not using this, then uninstall the current PC suite and download the latest version.
Next, go to http://europe.nokia.com/A4984199, to update both the Nokia Maps in your N85 to version 2 and also download the latest Nokia Maps Loader version 2.0.2
Note: If your N85 is brand new, you must use your N85 GPS application at least once before you can use Nokia Map Loader.
    Hope all these helps........

  • Nokia Map Loader doesn't recognize the 5800XM

Hello, I have a 5800 Xpress Music and I have downloaded some maps to it from Nokia Map Loader.
Now it is not working and in Nokia Map Loader it waits for the phone (it does not recognize it) when I connect it through USB.
In Nokia Ovi Suite it says that the phone does not work with Nokia Maps or that the maps and voice guidance and corrupted.
I went to make a trip with my car and the voice guidance worked properly.
I tried to download again the Map Loader and it installed the “maps_installer_3.03_1”. And Nokia Map Loader 3.0.28.0.
I have the firmware 50.0.005 downloaded too.
What can I do to download some more maps to my 5800?
I have looked for solutions in the forum but I did not find them.
    Thanks

It seems that there is something wrong with the files in your phone. Run a disk check of your card on your PC. It may fix the problem.
If it doesnt, you will have to manually delete the voice and maps on your phone and recreate the folder structure.
Delete the cities folder and qf file on your memory card. Turn off phone and remove battery for 5min. Reboot phone then open maps application. Wait for it to recreate folder structure. Then reconnect to Ovi Suite and redownload the maps.

  • Interesting facts about Nokia Map Loader 1.3 and 1...

Hi there, I have done some interesting tests yesterday after upgrading the Map Loader to version 1.3. First, I tried to connect my N95-1 (v.20.0.015) with a microSD card (4 GB) to my PC with Nokia Map Loader 1.3 running. The software asks to update to 1.2.1, then it tells my Map data is incompatible. Nothing new with this. Well I went to my wifes PC (with Map Loader v. 1.2.1. running) and found out the older version too claims that map data is incompatible! Well, then I changed another microSD card (2 GB) into my N95, formatted it, opened the Maps software. Now the Map loader did work OK. I could download maps and voices. I then changed my original microSD card (4 GB) back, and then deleted (with winXP resource manager) the folders "cities" and hidden "private" completely. After this the Map Loader (1.2.1) did work all right with this 4 GB microSD card. I downloaded the maps and voices I needed and now the N95 works fine. I haven´t, though, tried this with the version 1.3 yet. But you will find the version 1.2.1 from this Smart2go site: http://www.smart2go.com/en/help/maploader harrykaa

OK now, I have some more info on this topic now.
Firstly after having tried to open MapLoader 1.3 and getting the "uncompatible" message, you do not have to format the SD card.
Only delete the hidden "private" folder and the folder "cities". Then you go and delete the qf file from the root directory of the SD card too.
What is new is that I did this 3 days ago and then downloaded the maps with older MapLoader (1.2.1).
Now, yesterday I deleted folders and qf file again and found out that the new MapLoader (1.3) works too.
It even asks to update the maps before opening.
I did download the maps of the Europe with both versions 1.2.1 and 1.3.
But it was interesting to find out that Europe maps downloaded with 1.2.1 were 1,525 MB, but the maps downloaded with 1.3 were over 1,600 MB. So with new version you get more recent maps.

  • Using Nokia Map Loader With the E65

I bought an E65 not long ago, and I've been trying to figure out the Navigator program for some time now.
I've been told that the E65 navigator is an integrated version of Nokia Maps, but I can't get Nokia map loader to recognise that there's a removable storage card plugged into the computer (both an SD card in a card reader, and my E65 in data transfer mode.).
I don't want to use it as a full blown navigator, just as a way to view road maps on the go, so my choice of programs is limited to just Nokia Maps.
Is there a way to make Nokia Map Loader recognise the card? I've used both versions 1.0w and 1.1g but both tell me that there are no cards connected to the computer.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi lordjaffa
Have you run Nokia Maps application on your E65 at least once with memory card in phone, to define folder structure required by Maploader on it?

  • Nokia map loader 2.0 beta

i've just downloaded the nokia map loader 2.0. one interesting feature beside the many added new features is that it recognizes the phone without going into Data Transfer mode. i mean i was able to use it with the Pc Suite mode.
Fear not those who argue but those who dodge

i am not sure that there is support yet for win 7 beta as it is in beta stage, you might not be able to update your phone. if you have access to another computer with xp or vista try updating via that computer and see if it works.

  • Nokia Map Loader 1 .1 for Mac not working on Mac O...

Hi to everybody. I'm very angry with Nokia support (is there a support ?) about Mac. I'm talking about Nokia Map Loader with N82 with Ovi maps . I reformatted my memory card, started Nokia Map Loader to download and put maps on my memory card and every time i get an annoying message "File 80.cdt might be in use". I read in the forum that many other users have this problem and someone has found a long and complicated workaround. But is it possible that Nokia hasn't solved this problem ?
We've been waiting 2 years when Nokia announced a Mac Ovi suite program which never has been released. Of course, my next phone will probably be an Iphone .
    Please Nokia, fix it .
Thank you very much for your attention.

  • N96 Nokia Maps Loader Issue

    Hi All,
I just updated my phone firmware.
I make it a habit to format the mass memory and the phone memory.
The problem now is after I have restored all my files and recreated the settings, I cannot make the Maps to load.
I encounter this error message "Error while loading catalog to drive E: at Nokia N96"
The only option is to click the check mark, after I click it nothing happens.
Have anybody experienced this or anybody knows a solution?
I have already checked the cities folder and it is recreated already. But still same issue.
Is this related to the new firmware?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have managed to solve it.
When you format the phone memory the license manager which is used by Nokia Maps gets deleted.
In order to get it back you have to download the Nokia Map for your country and install it again to the phone.
After the installation. Delete the cities folder if there is one and then run the Nokia Map.
You can now use the Map loader and install the language you want.
That means that the maps loader is useless if you have deleted the license manager.

  • Nokia Map Loader suggestions... What do you think?

Herewith , I'd like to add my poit of views about using Map Loader and downloading maps to our GPS enabled handsets :
    * Map version is shown as a small numbers that is not noticed by many .
    * The program doesn't compare the map version it has to that one in your handset, so you don't know by default if you need to update .
*The program doesn't show the date of map release.
*It doesn't show your phone map details , so you may end up not knowing which countries are already on your handset if you forgot what you've downloaded.
*It does not worn you about already existing data ,linked to the feature above , you may also end up making duplications which consume you memory.
*It's recommended to connect your phone thru P.C.Suite mood before downloading maps as adviced ,however ,I found this hard to work with Nokia loader , and connecting the handset__talking about E71__by non compatible P.C.Suite mood, like mass storage will always work with map loader !
*When you download mutiple countries, the program shows the progress of the total value needed to be downloaded , there is no other line to show the progress of the country being downloaded and so on.
These are the drawback that i've encountered so far! anybody has some other comments or solutions? I'd be happy to hear from you .

    Thanks for the reply ,
As a matter of fact I made this test before to check for duplication ,
I chose a random country__was Turkey__and downloaded its map on my Nokia E71, after that I chose it again ,it was again downloaded, and the left space indecates that it was reloaded again on my handset,& of course consuming memory space !
My experience is only with the current version of Nokia maps ,So if you are sure that new maps would replace old ones in my handset with no duplication , I would be glad to hear that !

  • Read this if Maps v2 loads to 30% and then quits ....

The solution to this problem is to delete the mapping data stored on your memory card, and try loading Maps v2 again.
Once it has loaded completely once, you can then quit and load the mapping data that you need to the memory card without problem.
    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Edward

    Hello there,
In my case it stops to load at 90% and then just quits.
I then started Jakka's Crash Monitor for analysis and found out: The reason is a Panic: 12,User. (on a E51 with 4GB card and about 1 GB used for Maps, no other programs running except the normal system standards, like phone, led, email-in, aso)
The funny thing: It worked fine until this afternoon at 3 pm. I reached my target quit the program and fine. At 5 pm (nothing installed or so in the meantime) i wanted to drive somewhere else and... f***.
So I ended up in buying a map.
Shall I always carry my my PC with me when on the road to clean up the cache to be able to continue to use it?
    I need a tool not a toy.
And well... that PC Nokia Maps Loader can also not be considered as a serious piece of software, more kind of an alpha-state program.
It does not allow you to see what you already have installed neither can you remove any maps selectively.
Also there is no chance to edit or delete your own locations and and and.
I was thinking about to extend my 1 month trial to a real long-term subscription... but i will better invest the money in real maps (paper) as they will be always availiable and i will not be lost in the middle of nowhere just as maps will decide again to panic.
Nokia really has to make some improvements to become a serious competitor to R66 or Garmin. Not to mention real devices like TomToms.
Another story is the quality the routing...
For that i will start a seperate thread so now here just short:
on sunday i was standing in front of a locked gate of a unpaved road in northern hungary and 1 hour later i wanted to call the nearest Hummer-Dealer to buy one of their vehicles to continue on the road the system selected (set on FASTEST! not or shortest!) and in Northern Slovakia you will end up as food for the bears if you trust your navigation-system.
(Nokia: If you you read this and dont believe it... try to come to visit me... i will rescue you when you are stuck and lost - i promise!)

  • Nokia Maps on E71 again - does not load a detailed...

    Hello All!
I've looked through previous discussions on Nokia Maps @ E71, however did not find a solution for my problem.
Noka Maps runs on my E71, however, it does not load a detailed maps. Sattelite images work perfectly. My area is well covered with the maps as my N95 loads maps perfectly.
I messed around with Nokia Maps Loader. I even deleted \\CITIES\diskcash.
Nokia Maps restors the directory when I raun it, fixes GPS, downloads about 850kb of data...and shows my city of about 3M population as a crossroads of two highways (in case I use the Maps Loader it even does not try to download and shows the same).
In the meantime, I made Garmin XT working fine on my E71. But I still would like to use Nokia Maps as a back-up when travelling. Thank you for help!!!
PS I have E71-1, 3 weeks old, with the latest firware. I even did not have to re-flash as it came updated.
PPS I wish I was a bit stronger to have in the other pocket N95 just for a back-up

From my experience from Navteq maps if your country is in the list non-routable maps you may get nothing nevertheless Navteq states you will get map but it cannot be used for navigation.
Navteq says ask Nokia, Nokia says ask Navteq.
