Nokia Maps/ N95: Support for network links?

Hello,
I have a GPS tracker device I would like to monitor in Nokia N95's maps. On PC I am using Google Maps with a network link, to see it's position in real time.
Does Nokia Maps support network links like in Google Earth?
Feel free to try - here's a sample URL from TrackingTheWorld:
http://trackingtheworld.com.r.seekdotnet.com/images/260156.kml
It should look something like this:

Really doesn't sound good, you could go to Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > Network > Network mode - see if changing from dual mode to UMTS or GSM makes any difference; could also try brand new SIM card in case contacts in device SIM holder getting a bit worn but probably clutching at straws!

  • Nokia PC Suite support for Outlook and Thunderbird

    Hi,
I am currently using the Microsoft Outlook 2007 combined with Nokia PC Suite to synchronize the contents of the Outlook with my Nokia N73 smartphone. I am now considering to switch e-mail client from Microsoft Outlook to the Mozilla Thunderbird. So my question is then, is Nokia PC Suite compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird?
I have in fact already installed Thunderbird, but it is not available as an option anywhere in the settings for Nokia PC Suite. All I can find in the Nokia PC Suite settings is a tab called "Microsoft Outlook" where I can choose the different Outlook profiles or change settings. In my humble opinion there should be a new tab added called "Thunderbird" or similar right next to the "Microsoft Outlook" tab in the settings for Nokia PC Suite after installing another e-mail client such as the Mozilla Thunderbird.
I know that there is this option to choose what e-mail client to use upon installing Nokia PC Suite, where I have chosen Outlook. Does this mean that I have to reinstall Nokia PC Suite to get this choice to choose e-mail client to use? If I do reinstall Nokia PC Suite, will I even get to this option at all? Since I am only reinstalling Nokia PC Suite and it is already configured once to be used with Outlook, I'm thinking that maybe this option will not even appear upon reinstalling Nokia PC Suite.
I don't have a clear memory of it but I think I once reinstalled Nokia PC Suite for some reason and I was not presented with this option to choose e-mail client as the first time I installed it. So this may require complete uninstallation and deletion of files and Windows registry for Nokia PC Suite, and then a fresh installation of it to get to this window where to choose e-mail client.
Even when and if I get to that window, it's no guarantee that I will be able to choose Thunderbird even thou it's installed. Why? Because I know from experience that commercial and proprietary software like Nokia PC Suite tends to only support the industry standard platforms and systems and applications, or de-facto industry standards like the extensively used Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft products. I know by experience that such software as Nokia PC Suite love to lick Microsoft's **bleep**. Don't you think?... or don't you know? You disagree? Well lay it on me, tell me what you think!
I would love to be able to synchronize my mobile phone with my computer, even if I may use a Linux or other nix-like operating system. But if Nokia PC Suite doesn't even support e-mail clients other then Microsoft Outlook, such as the Thunderbird, then it's probably too much to ask for a Linux support for Nokia PC Suite. Or is it?... does Nokia PC Suite support Linux?...

    Thanks for your answers!
By this time I have made a clean install of Windows Vista at least three times, and on one occasion I remembered to check this this thesis of mine that I mentioned above. So for the purpose of testing if it's true that the Nokia PC Suite installation process or Nokia PC Sync configuration wizard does not present the user with the option to choose Mozilla Thunderbird as e-mail client, I have done the following.
I have made a completely clean, out of the box installation of Windows Vista on the computer (retail version, non-custom branded Vista version). After installing the needed and important drivers for the system and other software required for the proper operation of the system and few other software, I went on installing Microsoft Office with Outlook 2007 as one of the first software applications. Then I installed Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird. After I had done that, I installed the Nokia PC Suite.
As my thesis predicted, after successfully installing Nokia PC Suite and the Nokia PC Sync configuration wizard was started, I was not presented with the option to choose Mozilla Thunderbird as my e-mail client, even thou both Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird were installed prior to or before Nokia PC Sync. In other words, if this was a limitation of the Nokia PC Suite or it's installer, where it does not recognize e-mail clients that are installed after Nokia PC Suite itself, then installing the e-mail clients in this order should make Nokia PC Suite recognize it. But it did not, or at least as long as the Mozilla Thunderbird is concerned. Thus, this proves my thesis - Nokia PC Suite is currently not compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird. And Mobile Sensei Petrib confirms this also.
Here follows a screenshot of the actual Nokia PC Sync configuration wizard.
    http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/9803/nokiapcsyncsd3.jpg
I'm afraid we will have to bear with this. I personally don't believe that there will ever be any official release of Nokia PC Suite that will have full support (or any at all) for other e-mail clients then just Microsoft Outlook and Lotus, or that there will be any official Linux or nix-like version of it. Not today, not in next five years, and not in one thousand light-years from today. We can hope, but the odds are pointing in the opposite direction.
So bear with Microsoft Outlook, and the Windows **bleep**. No pay, no play! Unfortunately... fortunate for Microsoft, Nokia, and others alike, but unfortunate for us end users.

    Dear Nokia Careline,
The "No Return Policy" already be used here. Seem that I have no choice to go for other alternatives. Maybe I have to file the case to our local authority i.e. Tribunal Court Claim to exercise my consumer right here.
Perhaps, further blogs at Nokia discussion column, facebook, twitter might help to let others understand more about so-called Nokia Careline entertain their loyal customer.
If you insist your stand there, then I am always ready to go for my alternatives.
I won't let go unless you could satisfy me.

    Dear Mr. X,
    We appreciate your prompt reply.
We will be noting for concern as a feedback. However, please be informed Mr. Tan that Nokia has noted in the box regarding the said case.
The outage experienced by our sub-supplier was quite unexpected. Typically, the lead time for components such as this one is fairly long, and one cannot react to sudden changes at short notice. We value our relationship with our suppliers and sub-suppliers, and know that our sub-supplier is doing everything in their power to remedy the situation and return to regular supply.
The lack of TV out should not affect any other device functionalities besides that you will not be able to show/transmit pictures or video to external monitor/screen.
As Nokia does not have a replacement policy, we suggest to check with your dealer if they have a policy regarding exchanges.
    Apologies for any inconvenience.

    Dear NOKIA CARELINE,
Yap, you can tell me leaflet included & a tiny label on the pack box. But who will really check every single area of the pack box & read the whole manual or leaflet when they decided to buy the phone. What normally customer will check is the handphone and the accessories. Now you are telling me that customer have to check everything even they  buy something from a reputable company like Nokia. If I going in a shop that sell a China like Nokia 5800 handphone and I bought it then I won't have a say here at all.
I have checked with my retailer they allow me to return the unit but I can't get full refund from them. They are going deduct a couple of hundred cause they said the unit is considered used unit now. According to them instead of asking customer to wait they prefer to refund the customer. So who is going to bear for the cost now.
I certainly frustrated by getting a unit that without TV out function. If you are telling me that once manufactured the feature could not be added in, then I would say if you do have a unit with TV-out feature now you could exchange directly to your customer. Why still ask your loyal customer like me to refer to dealer or retailer. Is that what you mean after sales service or NOKIA CARELINE. You don't even care in the first place.
Your apologies certainly couldn't be accepted with reason of Nokia did include leaflet to inform and tiny sticker at the bottom of the pack box. Sound irresponsible to me at all.
What I wanna your care now, that is pls exchange a unit with TV-out feature with mine in which without such feature. Do I really put the CARELINE into difficulty position. Your reply to me is highly appreciated and also to show that you care or don't care.
    Regards,

    Dear Mr. X,
Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.
    Greetings!
In response to your inquiry, please be informed Mr. Tan that due to a component shortage, a limited number of Nokia 5800 Xpress Music has been manufactured without the TV-out functionality. It is possible that you have one of these devices. In that case, the sales package should have a sticker on the package and a leaflet inside the package that inform about the lack of TV-out functionality. Also, the TV-out cable has been removed from the affected sales packages.
Kindly take note Mr. Tan that it is not possible to add the feature after the device has been manufactured. Therefore we have labeled the affected sales packages with a sticker and included a leflet that inform about the lack of TV-out functionality. Those individuals who wish to have the TV-out functionality should wait for a sales package that that has it again.
The new batch of phones should have the feature back. As this matter is clearly stated in the sales package, it is not possible to return to Nokia. However, you may check with your dealer if they have a policy regarding the return of the unit in exchange for a version that has the TV-out feature. Those individuals who wish to have the TV-out functionality should wait for a sales package that that has it again.
    Apologies for any inconvenience.

  • Support for Network Devices

    Hi All,
I am working on the network evaluation for a client environment and was looking for using Prime Infra as a solution for Network management. I see that following devices are not listed in the support matrix. Can someone help me to understand if this can be monitored and managed in cisco prime Infra 2 ?
    Cisco 2248
    cisco 4948
    cisco 4300
    cisco 3745
    cisco ASA FWSM
    Cisco WS-C4948
    Cisco C3550-48
    Cicso C3550-24
    Cisco C4006
    Cisco WS- CBS3020-HPQ
    Cisco WS-CBS3120X-S
    Cisco WSX 5302
    Skr...

What version of ISE are you on? There isnt a maximum number of network devices listed anywhere but I am sure that exceeding 500 is no where near the threshold. What has worked for me in the past is adding one device manually and exporting that device using the csv method and use that csv to add the other devices ip address and copy and paste the same columns.
It could be something as simple as missing a field where the UI isnt catching or an undocumented issue that are hitting.
    Thanks,

  • Nokia Maps no useful for job

I downloaded Argentina maps for a friend, but the map at my province (San Juan) is only CAPITAL and around. No has Jachal, San Martin and other far minor cities (100+ km) then cant drive to those cities and no roads available (even when no sections of national roads!)

Thanks for your replies. After more tests on the Nokia Store, it seems it will only allow the download of the latest version of Nokia Maps (v3.08) if you register a Symbian Belle device (700 / 701, etc). All Symbian Anna phones can only download the older Ovi Maps (3.06) software.
This is very strange as the beta labs for V3.08 accepted help from all Symbian Anna devices and as confirmed above, I have been running the beta of v3.08 for a couple of months now without any issues. It seems strange that now this has been promoted to a full version they then restrict access to the devices that tested this software.
I have written to Nokia customer services and they say the reason it will not install is that my phone only has Anna version 022.014 installed and that I should update to 025.007. I have tried to do this on my phone and using Nokia Suite but both confirm my phone is up to date and there is no new update available......apart from that pesky Nokia DAB software that I do not need as I don't have the DAB headset or DAB software installed. Having read the forums it seems that this 025.007 update is not for all phones (mine is 059D496) so I assume I will not be getting it.
    Hope this get resolved soon.

Exactly the same happened to me! I paid 9.99€ for a full year of navigation for my E66 just a week or two before they offered free navigation! The nerve of those guys! All the dreamy things I could have done with that 10€... now they are gone, forever!

  • Nokia Care- N95 Support

I am having lots of problems with my N95. The handset keeps on shutting down or freezing without applications running. The handset is very unreliable and I feel I must reinstall my primary SIM into my trusty N80. For example if I try to accesss my voice mailbox by pressing and holding button 1 , the phone shuts down! I am constantly restarting the phone, sometimes having removed the battery for a few seconds. If i recieve a SMS, this often causes a problem.
I bought my N95 SIM free and am running software version 12 with a 2Gb memory card. I have had several S60 phones, so I am well aware of their limitations, but this is the worst one.
I have tried to contact Nokia Care on 0845 0455555. They keep you hanging on for ages, trying to speak to an Engineer ,only to be re-directed, before being cut off. They even promised to call me back, but they only said that to get rid of me!
So I tried to contact Nokia Care by e-mail. I got a standard computer generated reply, and it was obvious nobody ever bothered to read my e-mail!
All I want is to speak to someone about my problems to double check I am not doing anything wrong before I return the handset. Does anyone know who and how it is possible to speak with a qualified Nokia technician?

First you could download some new software onto the phone, the new software is very reliable.

  • Nokia maps 1.0 - india maps, Maharashtra and Goa

    Hi all,
I want to download india maps and specifically maps of Maharashtra and Goa. I bought a Nokia C2-03 (dual-sim) recently and have been trying to download maps via Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.90 but it has been a failure.
The device itself does not have much memory but do have a memory card. Does anybody know how :-
    a. I can download and install the Maharashtra and Goa map in the memory card ?
    b. A link from where I can download the map. I did see this link given /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Maps-Data-File-size-discrepancy/m-p/1166517/message-uid/1166517/highligh... but unfortunately it seems for a different version of Nokia maps .

All and any help and clarity on the above would be helpful.

    @shirishag75
    Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately S40 devices use Nokia Maps 1.0 for which available mapping is a lot less detailed; presumably  you have inserted memory card and opened Nokia Maps application at least once upon your C2-03 to initialise application? At this point Ovi Suite > Maps should recognise memory card and offer you maps to download but not always so.
That said Series 40 Ovi Maps 2.1 is variable in implementation and if device supplied with local maps installed upon memory card there doesn't seem an issue adding more maps but real issues if no maps with it sometimes.

  • Network Link Conditioner to control Wi-Fi

I just finished installing and testing Network Link Conditioner that comes with Mac OS X Lion and Xcode4.1. It works great locally on the Mac, i.e. when I use the Internet connection that Network Link Condition is limiting directly.
However, when I create a Wi-Fi network on the Mac and share with it the Mac's Internet connection, Network Link Conditioner blocks Internet access to the Wi-Fi network completely. When Network Link Conditioner is turned off, the phones that are connected to the Wi-Fi network are able to browse the Web without issues. But when I turn Network Link Conditioner back on, the phones lose Internet connectivity.
Does this mean NLC cannot be used to test actual iOS devices and is only useful when testing using the Simulator? Or is there a workaround for this?
    Thank you.

I think the problem is caused by packets entering the firewall multiple times, inappropriately.  This normally might be corrected via some MAC layer 2 filtering rules in ipfw, but those features are not present within ipfw as it appears in Mac OS X.
Note that Mac OS X Lion uses natpmpd for NAT in Internet Sharing, while Mac OS X Snow Leopard uses natd.  These NAT solutions operate with different technical consequences, some of which affect the firewall rules used by Network Link Conditioner.
In the interim, I've found an acceptable, if not ideal solution.  Instead of allowing Network Link Conditioner to create ipfw rules that modify every packet on every interface, modify the rules to only trap inbound packets traversing from the bridged interface to the LAN interface, and vice versa for outbound packets.  After all, if you're testing simulated network conditions on attached WiFi devices, you only need to degrade network conditions for those devices, and you don't need (or probably want) your Mac's internal Internet connection to be affected.
I've created a script that can be executed to automatically fix the appropriate ipfw rules in Mac OS X Lion.  It needs to be executed as root every time you select a new profile in Network Link Conditioner.  Or, run it once in polling mode ( '-p' ), and it will run in the background and detect and fix Network Link Conditioner firewall rules automatically.  It needs to be run as root because ipfw can only inspect and modify rules from an account with root privileges.

If you want to perform the same logic manually, simply look for rules in the following format using 'ipfw list':
00100 pipe 40269 ip from any to any in
00200 pipe 40270 ip from any to any out
Replace them with rules in the following format, assuming that en0 is your LAN connection and en1 is your bridged WiFi connection:
00100 pipe 40269 ip from any to any xmit en1 recv en0 in
00200 pipe 40270 ip from any to any recv en1 xmit en0 out
To perform the above modifications, issue the following commands:
    ipfw delete 100 200
ipfw add 100 pipe 40269 ip from any to any xmit en1 recv en0 in
ipfw add 200 pipe 40270 ip from any to any recv en1 xmit en0 out
You might need to reset your host and/or client WiFi connections before the modified rules work properly, as the firewall maintains packet state that sometimes directs packets according to previous firewall rules.
Note that in order for ipfw to allow rules to be created that span interfaces, you might have to modify the 'scopedroute' property to be disabled.  Unfortunately, Mac OS X Lion has made this property read-only, and you can no longer modify the property by performing the following command, which works in Snow Leopard:
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.scopedroute=0
If you find yourself needing to fix this problem in order for Network Link Conditioner to work with bridged connections in Mac OS X Lion, read the following link for a solution on how to modify 'scopedroute':

Also note that after having implemented all of the above, sometimes the connection seems to freeze for several seconds at a time, after which it resumes normally.  You can disable/reenable WiFi on the client to correct the situation immediately, or just wait it out.  It's an unfortunate side-effect of not having all the necessary tools to direct packets properly in Mac OS X Lion.
