  • Any chance to prolonge Nokia Maps Drive Europe lic...

Hi, I am still happily using my E51 with Nokia Maps version which needs paid licence for guided navigation and traffic updates. Until now it managed through the Maps Options - Shop and Licences but not anymore. I still can see my soon expiring licences but when I click on Shop, phone just says updating not succesful and thats all. I might be the only one left to buying that licence and they have probably just shut the sales down...? Anybody here managed to buy new licences recently?

  • NOKIA MAPS PHONE SOFTWARE

    hey guys,
i gota problem with my maps sw update on my fone.. everything workd ok, firmware, nokia maps and map uploader.
the problem is when i click on "nearby" everything is in german. how do i fix that. i wouldnt mind if i could read it. hehe.
im from australia. was this only suppose to be for europe only?

Thanks everyone for the tips. There are a few gaps in the advice however for novices like myself. To fill these in :
    1) You must have a microSD card for the maps loader to work, minimum 2Giga (Nokia maps are by continent and heavy files : 1.3G for Europe or America). You may even find that the Maploader application says there's not enough space on your 2Giga card, in which case you have to increase the memory allocation within the maps application on your phone - Maploader will tell you where to find this.
    2) The "data transfer" mode everyone talks about is in the message which pops up in the phone when you connect it to a computer with PC Suite installed, not on the computer itself or in the PC Suite application.
    3) You must have the Maps application activated in the phone before you connect to the computer for MapLoader to recognise the phone.
    4) Upload overnight. The connection is slow, a couple of hours for Europe or America.
    Good luck !

  • Route 66 or Nokia Maps

What would you suggest to invest in. Route 66 is a very good software, I am using the Eastern European Maps, excellent. However was wondering if it would be better from the onset to go in for Nokia Maps as their Map Navigation is going to go from strength to strength. What is your opinion ?

It does not have to cost anything to download maps for Nokia Maps if you use the pc Map Loader. I have been using Nokia Maps for about 6 months and so far so good. I paid for 3 years sub which includes all map updates for the next 3 years for the whole of western Europe. Great Deal!.
Since that I have been to Turkey, US and Canada. I have paid for maps for these countries at €8.99 for 30 days usage. Worked great except for Istanbul where the maps are a little out of date.
The key is to download all the maps for a particular country or region using Map Loader before you go. This will avoid you paying data connection charges when you arrive.

  • Interesting facts about Nokia Map Loader 1.3 and 1...

Hi there, I have done some interesting tests yesterday after upgrading the Map Loader to version 1.3. First, I tried to connect my N95-1 (v.20.0.015) with a microSD card (4 GB) to my PC with Nokia Map Loader 1.3 running. The software asks to update to 1.2.1, then it tells my Map data is incompatible. Nothing new with this. Well I went to my wifes PC (with Map Loader v. 1.2.1. running) and found out the older version too claims that map data is incompatible! Well, then I changed another microSD card (2 GB) into my N95, formatted it, opened the Maps software. Now the Map loader did work OK. I could download maps and voices. I then changed my original microSD card (4 GB) back, and then deleted (with winXP resource manager) the folders "cities" and hidden "private" completely. After this the Map Loader (1.2.1) did work all right with this 4 GB microSD card. I downloaded the maps and voices I needed and now the N95 works fine. I haven´t, though, tried this with the version 1.3 yet. But you will find the version 1.2.1 from this Smart2go site: http://www.smart2go.com/en/help/maploader harrykaa

OK now, I have some more info on this topic now.
Firstly after having tried to open MapLoader 1.3 and getting the "uncompatible" message, you do not have to format the SD card.
Only delete the hidden "private" folder and the folder "cities". Then you go and delete the qf file from the root directory of the SD card too.
What is new is that I did this 3 days ago and then downloaded the maps with older MapLoader (1.2.1).
Now, yesterday I deleted folders and qf file again and found out that the new MapLoader (1.3) works too.
It even asks to update the maps before opening.
I did download the maps of the Europe with both versions 1.2.1 and 1.3.
But it was interesting to find out that Europe maps downloaded with 1.2.1 were 1,525 MB, but the maps downloaded with 1.3 were over 1,600 MB. So with new version you get more recent maps.

  • Nokia Maps Navigation Charges

Nokia/Ovi Maps is now completely free for some the latest models. Click this link for the list of phones with free navigation.
For the older and unsupported models, charges are as follows:
Firstly there is no charge to use nokia maps to locate you position and to download any maps you want. So all map updates are absolutely free.
You will however have to pay for navigation if you wish to get turn by turn instructions. There are various rates for navigation. You can buy a single country or regions (eg. western Europe) for different durations such as a week, a month, a year etc.
Since March 2010 navigation licenses are now only available for regions only and regional license charges have been substantially reduced to a very reasonable €9.99 for a 1 year license, and for those short breaks and holiday abroad, you could get the 1 month license for the region you are visiting for €1.99. These are approximate prices and do vary a little between the various regions.
    Also see
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/search?comp=Maps%2C+Nokia+Here+and+Now&cat=support&page=1&qt=costs&c...
There could also be associated network charges if you choose to go online and use AGPS when navigating. Network charges can be avoided by pre-loading your required map data to your phone using Nokia Map Loader or Ovi Suite and disabling Assisted GPS and network based.

Licences are now 30 and 90 days plus a full year, I believe this is effective from Maps 2.0 onwards.

  • Nokia Maps (Navteq) from N96 to N97

    Hi,
Is it possible to move Nokia Maps (Navteq) from N96 to N97 and how?

Map Loader tells me I'm using
    Map Loader 3.0.28.0
    Nokia N97 (Map version 0.1.22.103)
And the phone tells me I'm using
    Maps 3.03(54) (from Betalabs).
There is no Services tab any more, and the Map Loader Help only tells me I can download Maps and Voices. The Help doesn't mention Services.
I got my 3 year Western Europe licence about 18 months ago, for my N95. As soon as I plugged my old sim into the N97, and ran Maps (2.0 at the time) it went off to the internet and "verified" the licence info.
At that time the Map Loader app had a brown interface, and didn't change for a long time. The Services tab gave a priced list of all the extras, and you could buy them through the app. It also explained that you had the choice of whether to link your license to the sim or the phone. I remember thinking it through at the time, and deciding to link it to the sim, because I still have my N95, and sometimes switch the sim into that phone. Since Ovi has taken over the app, all that choice and explanation has gone (at least for me).
Maybe I'm not seeing the Services tab because I'm using the Betalabs version  3.03(54)?
    Edit:-
By the way, I used to get the Services tab when I linked to my N95 running Maps 2.0, but I don't remember the version of Map Loader I used at the time.

maps 3.0 has been out for a while now...tho still in beta and there are many known issues, i use it on my phone and yest it does crash and burn at times, but i am used to it so it does not really bother me, just reboot the phone or reinstall the app. for the most part it actually works really well and i am happy with it. inmo it manages the content better and checks for the latest versions of maps and updates and deletes old data all in one doing, it takes a moment but once it actually is very stable and out of beta it has a potential to be a great app.

  • Can't get 2 GBs on my 2GB MicroSD

This may have less to do with my 5300 than my memory card and Mac but I just bought an AData 2GB MicroSD card to squeeze more music onto my phone. The problem is, after I get about 300 MBs on it, the card can't fit anymore music on it. But here's the catch: both my phone and my Mac recognizes the MicroSD card as having 1.89GBs of space available. And even after adding nearly 300MBs to it, it still had about 1.6 GBs available. So why can't I add more music? The Nokia branded 512MBs that came with the phone allowed me to fill it to the brim, so I know that it isn't iTunes or anything else that's prohibiting my from adding more music. Also, I tried using the card in my digital camera and uploading the music by way of the camera's doc (because my Mac doesn't have a card reader) and I ran into the same trouble. I have reformatted the card, and still no luck. Help, please!

    Hi fred,
I'm not trying to argue here
I would agree that sometimes it's difficult to "hear" the difference, but that doesn't mean that there is no difference.
Everytime you digitalize something a bit of the original information is lost in the process. To minimize this we oversample the audio tracks.
Further, even though the original analog music may have a range from 10-45 KHz, most people only hear from 100+ to maybe 15 KHz. So most people cannot hear a difference when some frequency content is lost. And I'm not saying I can by the way
Then when you further encode into MPEG compression algorithms, more information is lost, this is due to the way it works. It takes the WAV or PCM stream and removes "reduntant" information and reduces the frequency contents.
If you then re-encode the file, you remove more information.
But I agree with you, in most cases you won't be able to detect by ear these errors. But if you use a sprectrum analyzer or audio analyzer you can compare the files and see where some frequencies have been cropped or removed altogether.
The "hearing" is further modified by the headphones you use or the equipment you connect to reproduce the sound. A good pair of headphones from Audiotechnica will make a difference, if you connect some cheap headphones you will never notice the difference since the cheap ones won't have the frequency response necessary to be able to reproduce the full sound.
In one of the demos for the N91 they had a B&O (Bang&Oluffsen) stereo connected to the N91. The sound was beutiful.
640K Should be enough for everybody

  • N95 Nokia Maps 2.0 crashing

    Help !
Last week I updated the firmware on my unbranded N95 to the latest 21.0.016 and udated Nokia Maps, then went a drive in the car to use the free trial and it worked perfectly.
As I was going on holiday at the start of the week, I purchased the 30day useage and also the traffic info update.
On Monday we set of on our holidays, we stopped at a service station and before leaving I put on Nokia Maps, within minutes it had pinpointed my location, but it kept asking to close my current connection and every time i did it the phone turned off!
If i selected no, it would let me select my destination and then crash!
I have lots of applications installed, so i removed anyone that used the GPS function (ie Picture locator) and it still does not work.
The only items that remain live (that I know of) when the phone is on is Step Counter & M-Panel, i removed M-Panel and turned of Step Counter and it does not make any difference at all.
I am annoyed that I have spent money and I cant use it, also the Traffice Info never worked anywhere I went, it kept saying (not availabe). Even when on M74 & M6
I went on to Nokia FAQ when I came back from holidays and it is a known problem,
I have re-installed Nokia Maps 2.0 and maps / voices but it still crashes.
    Has anyone experienced this?

    N95-1 with LATEST FIRMWARE
    & "Nokia_Maps_2.0_2204_3.1_u.sis"
    UPDATE:
Now MAPS 2.0 loads perfectly connecting to WIFI LAN but as I zoom in closer as I get to street view it crashed out eveytime. and zooming into recent find the same.
    Tried GPS ASSISTED, crashes out
Tried Just Network BAsed but crashes the same.
And before I was able to do everything except LIVE GPS Voice Assisted guidance but it would PREVIEW the Journey and the Voice used to work, its now totally unusable.

  • Nokia maps 1.0 - india maps, Maharashtra and Goa

    Hi all,
I want to download india maps and specifically maps of Maharashtra and Goa. I bought a Nokia C2-03 (dual-sim) recently and have been trying to download maps via Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.90 but it has been a failure.
The device itself does not have much memory but do have a memory card. Does anybody know how :-
    a. I can download and install the Maharashtra and Goa map in the memory card ?
    b. A link from where I can download the map. I did see this link given /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Maps-Data-File-size-discrepancy/m-p/1166517/message-uid/1166517/highligh... but unfortunately it seems for a different version of Nokia maps .
    c. Am I correct in assuming its Nokia maps 1.0 . This I came to know via Menu > Maps > Options > About where it says Maps 1.0 www.nokia.com/maps/support
    maps.nokia.com
copyright 2010 navteq  All rights reserved www.navteq.com
All and any help and clarity on the above would be helpful.

    @shirishag75
    Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately S40 devices use Nokia Maps 1.0 for which available mapping is a lot less detailed; presumably  you have inserted memory card and opened Nokia Maps application at least once upon your C2-03 to initialise application? At this point Ovi Suite > Maps should recognise memory card and offer you maps to download but not always so.
That said Series 40 Ovi Maps 2.1 is variable in implementation and if device supplied with local maps installed upon memory card there doesn't seem an issue adding more maps but real issues if no maps with it sometimes.
You could look at this Nokia resource:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/how-to/how-to-use-maps-for-s40

    Hi knownothing
Last version of Nokia Maps v2.0_4503 here:http://europe.nokia.com/A4984199
Latest version of Nokia Maploader allows you to connect both in default PC Suite mode and Data transfer mode so don't get Windows warning for removing USB mass storage device and more options of Maps, Voices and Store available in Maploader.
If you into Connectivity > USB > USB mode - choice of four connection modes.

  • [Nokia Maps] Unable to purchase navigation feature

On My E90, I tried several times to upgrade to "voice navigation" but failed. That was what I did as the followings:
    1. [Options] -> [Extra services] -> Add navigation
    2. [Accept] the terms and conditions
    3. [Purchase] "Navigation upgrade"
    4. The unusual part began :
4.1. Select region "Taiwan" then the application crashed and back to desktop
4.2. Select region "Taiwan/China/Hong Kong/Macau" then it shows "Please enter your personal license code, which you received at the time of purchase" and an input field labeled "CD" which you are able to key-in a license code in format "nnnn-nnnn-nnnn". Of course, I dunno what to do and stop here.
According to the official information -
Nokia Europe - Nokia Maps - Voice-guided Navigation
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4509359
There should be a screen w/ license-type selection then I will able to choose the payment method and finish the process. But unfortunately I just unable to see one. Anyone could help please?

This is strange as I usually find wifi to be the better connection to use. It is also free as opposed to paying network data charges on 3g. Anyway, the main thing is you got it to work.
Truly! I am glad it finally work properly too. I applied an fixed price package of my 3.5G network that provide unlimited packets transmission on a monthly subscription fee, that's why I just let my E90 stay on the mode instead of WiFi.
Anyway, I think the problem is not due to the connection method but the service/application itself. Before I could purchase the navigation feature of region "Taiwan", tried some other regions and one of it "triggered" the "Update" procedure. That is the first time I saw it happen which gimme a hint, so I go back to region "Taiwan" and it got an "Update" too. Finally, everything worked. Dunno if it is a tip but I think it might help if someone just meet same problem as me.

  • N82 | Nokia Maps | Firmware

Hi everybody! I am new on this forum, so don't slaugher me...
Ehm, as you can see, I own a N82. When I press *#0000#, it tells me that I have the firmware: V30.0.019.
I've heard about that many other N82 users have the V31.... firmware. But when I check the Nokia sites on my phone, it says that the V30.0.019 is the newest firmware for my phone... Why's that?
And another thing; one of my buddies also have the V30.0.019 firmware (same as me), but his GPS (Maps) is version "v2.0 wk32 b04", and I have the "v1.2 wk48 b01". In the summer of 2008 I remember that I had that version on my phone, but I have no idea why I have the v1.2 now. Anyone knows why? And how can I get the newer version? I really like the newer version better.
Aaaand another thing. I have a problem with the Map Loader.
I tried to install the Loader (again today), and the first time I clicked it, it worked perfectly! But the second time after I downloaded it, the same thing as before happened. It seems that it works like one time after installing it, and then it doesn't. Why's that? Anyone can help me? Here is a little video about my problem (remember to have the annotations on YouTube ON): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py0f5kBdUh4&feature=channel_page
It works like a charm on the other computer in the house, but not on the laptop. I have no idea why.
I love this phone! I just want to "fix" these "problems" I have.

    Hi timbuktu
Apart from the need to backup essential data, a "three finger reset" as described in Paragraph 45 FAQ to Nokia Software Updater here may well do the trick:
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4577229#faq45
and by reverting to the original firmware pre-installed version of Nokia Maps it is a satisfactory point for upgrading to later ones albeit v2.0_4503 or v3.0Beta
