Nokia Messaging 1.1 devastating for battery life

I installed the latest Nokia Messaging (0.95) on my N85 on Thursday, and since then I have had to charge my phone almost twice a day. That compares with every other day when running with the previous version. What has happened?

Thanks for the reply, but that doesn't help me with my issue.
I emailed Nokia with the above problem, got a confirmation email saying I'd get a response within 48 hours. That was 72 hours ago! Very poor.  Just sent the same message again.
I now have another problem with Nokia Messaging.  My main BT Yahoo email address is set up in Nokia Messaging, but isn't downloading messages in "real time" as it used to, despite being set to send and receive 'soonest', on all day every day. I 'no entry' sign appears in the top left of the main Nokia messaging window that never used to, and I have to manually select 'sync' to receive any new messages.
This is REALLY **bleep**!  So, Nokia Messaging offers "push", real time email delivery for up to ten email accounts.  Only in the latest version, it's not real time (you have to manually push 'sync', and it doesn't work at all with 1&1 email address.  Even though the last version did.
Nokia, PLEASE, sort it out - especially if you reckon you've ever got a chance in hell of CHARGING peopple for this service!  hint: make the service/software do what it's supposed to first.
And someone, someone, please get back in touch and FIX MY PROBLEM!  Honestly, the time I've wasted trying to fix this in the last few days....!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • N95 vs N93i vs N80i for battery life

Hi, I am buying a new phone and I really like the N80i [N80 Internet Edition] but I hear that it doesn't have very good battery life (less than 1 day). So I am also looking at the N93i and the N95. I know that they provide more features too over the N80i but I'm not so interested in those, I just want to know about the battery life. How do these three compare for battery life? (I know that the N93 standard edition seems to have better battery life than the N93i, but I can't seem to find anywhere to buy this one in my country).

    Hi,
If you're not after with the features....why don't get Series 40 phones like 6233, 6280 and 6288? Which has a good battery life and much responsive compared to symbian phones.
We've tested the N6233..and it manage to hold its charge for almost 3 days with heavy usage.
Ouch! Only series 40 phones are symbian? S60 series phones(like the N series) are not, are you misqouted?

  • Best 7200RPM HDD for battery life

Anyone have any suggestions on the best 7200RPM hard drive for battery life? I think the one I have is draining the battery because it's the only thing I have changed. Even on 99% my battery indicator has never showed 7 hours, max I have ever seen is 5 so I assume its the hdd pulling the charge.

If you've only had this MBP for two days, have you even run the battery all the way down to see how long the battery actually lasts? What you see in the menu bar is only an estimate based on what you're doing with the computer at the time. It becomes somewhat more accurate over time (because it remembers your common use patterns) but it's never as meaningful as it seems. But if you haven't calibrated your battery yet, and you don't have enough experience with the machine to know how long your battery lasts in real life, you have nothing to be concerned about.

  • Which model (old or new) is good for battery life ...

hi. i want to buy old hp or maybe new model but don't know which is best for me. hope u can suggest to me which phone is good for battery life and signal receiver. thanks

    Hi wadud
Ironically the simpler the phone the more likely that battery lasts for ages and has less bulk to screen the signal. I have a 1100 for emergencies which holds it's charge for months admittedly switched off, whereas N82 Smartphone won't last the day in use without charge.

  • For battery life is it better to run my newly acquired 2010 Macbook Pro on battery most of the time down fully then charge or plug it in most of the time?

Just wondering about my 2010 Macbook Pro 13'
For the best overall battery life is it better to run battery down each time then plug in til fully charged or just plug in and use most of the time?

    Hi C,
Run it about 30 minutes a day on batt, the rest on the power adapter. Every month or two, run the batt all the way down until it goes into forced sleep, wait five hours, then charge it all the way up.

  • N80 Working ok except for battery life

    Hi All
Just a quick one to say I have not had any of the problems everyone else is complaining about. The software version is 3.0617.0.3 and I am on Orange. My only problem is battery life, lasts a day! so I am about to turn off Bluetooth and the search for WLAN to see if this makes a difference. Orange said if not they would test the phone to see if it was faulty or the battery.
Oh one other thing the N80 does not like the Parrot CK3100 car kit.

sister_bliss, I have been following this thread with some interest as battery life is the biggest problem I have with this phone, I can live with or work around other issues until they are sorted via firmware. For information, with regards to how many features are running and signal strength etc, I use my phone on GSM only, bluetooth/infrared only when required - I have these set up as standby icons for convenience. Signal strength is excellent even on 3g and I have disabled packet data connection and use it only as required and I get a maximum of 2 days out of a full charge. Btw, I noticed yesterday that using the camera eats battery life, I sometimes need to take photos as part of my work - for reports etc, not often but sometimes and even shots taken in daylight use a lot of energy. Once again, if an application built into the phone uses so much energy it should be taken into account when fitting the battery, I buy a mobile phone to use as a tool not just to sit on my desk looking flash and tools get used - in my case frequently. Sorry if this sounds like a rant but nothing, imo, could be simpler to rectify than this, your thoughts would be interesting.

  • App for Battery Life

Does anybody know if there is an app to see how much battery life you have left? If not could someone design one?

SDK = Software Development Kit. It is what developers download to give them the development enviroment to code Applications for the iPhone. It has restrictions on what you can and cannot do. In general, any app written cannot interact with any other application or settings. Each app is self contained and that is the rule. However there are some services on the phone that Apple exposes such as allowing an App to tap into photo library/camera, read your location, keyboard, read contacts. But that is it. Thus no app can tap into other settings or alter the way another program works.

  • Best settings for battery Life?

And away they go! Has anyone experimented with settings for optimal battery life?

Well, you have to decide what you want to use and when. To get the best battery life, you'd turn off everything (phone, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth), and turn the screen down to the lowest setting. But that eliminates most uses of the phone (calls, email, web, location functions, handsfree).
I've been leaving 3G and BT on, turning off WiFi and GPS until I need them. Searching for WiFi networks can drain power quite a bit (judging from my experience with the 1st gen iPhone), and it seems to me that the location services were sucking power even when I wasn't using them. I haven't confirmed this last theory yet, but my battery does seem to last longer with it off.
I suppose a somewhat less-extreme approach than shutting off everything would be to leave on the phone, but disable 3G (and everything else). This would give you phone calls and (slow) network access, but no location services or handsfree devices. To me, this seems silly - it effectively downgrades your phone to a 1st gen iPhone, unless you don't mind flipping 3G on and off as you need it.

  • Nokia N86 8MP getting hot and battery life - very ...

I have the above phone its over a year old, the last 4 days the battery life is awful lasting about 4 hrs max if I don't send or receive calls less if I do. I have to keep charging it and when I put it in my pocket it feels really warm/hot? I have restarted the phone and re-charged but it constantly is in charge mode? no applications are open the phone is in standby mode?
    Anyone have any ideas?

Try Backing Up and Restoring your device via iTunes first, it could be a software issue causing the phone to work harder than it needs too.

  • Kernel patch for battery life

Using powertop I found out that the kernel was preventing my laptop from going idle and reading this page found out about a patch for it.
    http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/powertop/known.php
However, that patch is out of date as I just got 2.6.24.3 today. Is there a recent patch for this as it is very annoying to only get three hours where I get five in vista.

Simple - the patching failed. Apparently you have patches that are conflicting here, and one file in concern is $startdir/src/linux-2.6.24*/sound/usb/usx2y/usx2yhwdeppcm.c but I can't tell what other files are involved since you didn't paste the relevant lines before this.

Now that I know what broken-out means I notice that I could only choose to apply something in particular and not the whole patch, but I'm totally a newbie in kernel patching...

  • Notification comes up for battery life of my keyboard at 60% ?

Recently the iMac has been popping up a notification that my keyboard is low on battery. Normally this would come up at 15% but its been doing this since 62%.

Is the approx 60% being reported via the bluetooth menu? If so, you can't trust the figure - the OS is notoriously inaccurate in providing battery level info.
If that is the case, try downloading and installing the Mighty Monitor widget in the Dashboard. It's reported levels are far more accurate.

  • What is the average battery life supposed to be for the nano?

my battery lasts like 2-3 hours, which is way to short, how long does yours last?

Mine only lasted between 2 and 4 hours, but it was the way I used my nano. I search around a lot, use the backlight, skip songs and really do everything that is not good for battery life. What I finaly did was to put in a higher capacity battery. It really was not hard to do. My ipod nano was off warranty and I went ahead and did it and am so happy I did, I now get well over twice the life I used to and am very happy. My ipod video was still on warranty and I changed the battery to a higher capacity as well, because of the positive result from my nano. Go here to determin your real battery life and to see if it is in fact a bad battery. If it is and you are still under warranty then by all means take it to the apple store or go online for service. • 2720 fold - battery life

My 2 month old Nokia 2720 Fold now has a battery life of about 2 days while making about 2 minutes of calls per day, reading and writing <5 SMS. I don't use camera, internet, MMS. Worst battery life of any Nokia I have had (several).
Bluetooth is on, because I use it for headset and calendar sync.
How can I improve battery life?

General guidelines to maximise Battery life given here ..BTW if the BT is on contineously then what life you are getting should be OK, I think (others may beg to differ....).
