Nokia Messaging client clarification

Hello all,
Can the new Nokia Messaging client be used as a traditional e-mail client?
(meaning direct IMAP/POP3 connection to my mail server?)
I can see that Nokia and the operators are trying to build (and charge) an email "service" separate from other data (when it always was just another application) by using Nokia servers to grab mails from your account and push them to your device. This may be a sensible thing to do if you do not have a flat rate data plan and the operator charges a small fee for this service.
I do have a flat rate data plan, so I am neither interested in this service, nor would I want to pay extra for what should be already included in my flat rate plan.
That said, I would like to try this new client if it can be configured as a normal one.
Could anybody please clarify this point to me?
thanks so much
Gonzalo

the nokia messaging client has the option to set the access point in use as well as the times that it will connect for new emails
as long as u set it so that the access point in use is a wlan that u have access to then there shouldnt be any charges for sending/receiving mail
u can also choose to disable the automatic startup of nokia messaging and manually start it up each time - there is a sync option in nokia messaging that u can select each time u want to check/send ur mails

  • Uninstall Nokia Messaging Client

I want to uninstall the new Messaging client (has aicon) from my phone (and also the setup app) but don't want to uninstall the built-in Epoc client by mistake.
I have 3 installed files showing in Application Manager:
    1. Nokia Email 10.02(4)
    2. Ovi Mail Extensions 1.05(65)
    3. Ovi Mail Setup 1.05(65)
    I'd guess that I uninstall 2. and 3. but leave 1.
    Is that right?

Nokia Email 10.02(4) is the Nokia Messaging client with the @ icon.

  • Gmail and nokia messaging client - 5800

I've had my 5800 for a couple of weeks now and when I got it I set up my gmail account with the built in email client under messaging.  Everything was working fine.  Since yesterday I have not been able to get any new emails to show up on my phone.  I've deleted and re-added the mail box and old messages show up and I can view older emails but no new ones?  I've checked all of my gmail settings, and I do in fact have new emails sitting there but no joy.
    Any ideas?
    Adam

I don't use nokia messaging, find the standard email client works faultlessly and also use the MSN app which gives me a hotmail box just like computer. I removed Nokia Messaging as I prefer the extra space on C. Good Luck

  • How (and where) can I create a new Nokia Messaging...

    Hi,
I just got a new E7 which I am currently pretty happy with, however when I go to email.nokia.com I only see a log-in form for the existing customers. Where can new users register and how can I do it? I can see that there is a Nokia Mail by Yahoo, but cannot find anything useful about push-mail there.
(Added later)I have successfully added a Google mail as a push mail to my phone and it IS WORKING,but I would like to add also our mail server but I cannot (I get a message that the password is wrong however it isn't since I can add the mailbox as POP3). After reading a lot of tutorials I SHOULD be able to log in to email.nokia.com with the first push-mail login credentials (in my case of google mail), however I get an error when trying to do so.
    TIA,
    Matej

    Hi justme123,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
Nokia Messaging account should be automatically created when you add a new mailbox to your email client.  All account management and configuration are handled within the Nokia Messaging clients on the Nokia device. If you want to have Nokia Mail account, please see here.
To set up Hotmail or Gmail in Exchange ActiveSync, perform the following steps:
Go to the Mail application and select New mailbox.
    Preparing for setup is displayed.
    Select Exchange ActiveSync.
Enter your email address, password, username and domain.
    Connecting server is displayed.
Enter the server name when requested.
For Gmail Setup use the following values:
User Name: full email address (for example [email protected])
    Domain: google
    Mail for Exchange server: m.google.com
    Hope this helps,
    Puigchild

  • Nokia messaging stopped running

Have a 5800, been working great since November.  The nokia messaging client will no longer launch.  Both the shortcut and the Email Icon just blink when you press them.  Re-installed the the latest version still nothing.  Also re-seated the memory card, no help.
    Any thoughts?

I have the same problem with the nokia messaging. It was working fine but suddenly can't open mail. It still bleeps and the unread message number goes up but I can't open the email from home or the menu or go into email settings.
Any one figure this one out yet?
    Thanks

  • Nokia Messaging / Gmail / Percent Character (%) in...

    Hi,
Is there a place to submit bugs for the Nokia Messaging client? I noticed that the S60 version (probably all the others too) will not connect to GMail's web service if there is a percent character in the password. I once submitted a patch for the Google .Net API for the same problem. The developer needs to ensure the character is not escaped during submission.

Apparently Nokia Messaging requires some sort of subscription (contract) in some countries.
I'm in Germany with an unlocked E75 and N900, using a prepaid discounter (blau.de) and never had a problem with NM.. in the NM account page it used to say "subscription purchased with device" or something to that effect.. now I doesn't say anything.
Some people have reported being in some sort of "trial" period, etc. which required involvement of the carrier to make it work again.
Assuming that you already have an NM account, you can try loggin in here and see what happens:
    https://email.nokia.com/account/login.action
Normally you can configure your accounts (add/modify/delete) from there (more convenient than on phone), and the updated settings are "pushed" to your phone (if you have NM already set-up, which I guess you don't have..)
If you don't already have an NM account and the account set-up fails on your phone, then I suppose you're out of luck..

  • Nokia Messaging sets up mailbox in messagning appl...

I'm facing problem in setting up Nokia Messaging on my 5800 phone. After installing Nokia Messagin on the phone, I found 2 pink colored "@" icons under App menu, "E-mail setup" and "E-mail". Clicking on either icons takes me to Email setup wizard. I configured my gmail account and password. I puts a new mail box named "gmail.com" under the Messaging menu. I am hoping to get the mailbox configured under the "E-mail" menu. What am I doing wrong here? Please help.
I hope the Nokia Messaging applciation can push email to my phone and consumes less battery than other polling email clients. Do I need to keep this application open in the background for the push thingy to work?
    Appreciate any help.

it seems that you have created a nokia email client..
have you downloaded the nokia messaging client on email.nokia.com using your phone web browser? after that, you need to click the GET NOW> and install.
you need to go to Menu > Settings and Application mgr..
select Installed apps. and look for the pink sign. and create an email.

  • Nokia messaging : Two questions

    1. If I set send/receive every hour, is it possible to have it send outgoing e-mails straight away?
    2. When "Soonest" is chosen, is it on-line all the time?
    Thanks,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Massi,
    1. No, it's not possible for the Nokia Messaging client to automatically send emails right away when send/receive is set to every hour.  You would have to manually press "Sync" in order for those emails to get sent right away.
    2. The "Soonest" setting is the near real time/push functionality of the client.  This setting doesn't have anything to do with online/offline status.  If your device is set to "Online", then "Soonest" is enabled.  If your device is set to "Offline", then soonest is disabled, and only manual sync will work at that time.
    Hope this helps.

Everytime I try to configure it, it says that "It can't connect to the email server"
I tried using 3G internet as well as several diferent WiFi spots, and the same problem occurs.
Is there a way to fix it? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it again with no luck... i tried logging hotmail and gmail accounts with no luck either.

  • E72 'Add to my Nokia Messaging account' VS Create ...

    Hi,
When adding an email account such as GMAIL my Nokia E72 gives me 2 options:
Add to my Nokia Messaging account
Create a separate mailbox that uses manual delivery
Again, this is an UI improvement: There is no contextual help or information regarding both options...
What are the pros and cons of using either options? Also, Vodafone proposer a similar application to connect to my mail accounts, do you know if it is any better?
    Thanks,
    Yvsn

There is no cost for using Nokia Messaging. It does say that it is a trial version but unofficially it appears it will be a never ending trial, and anyway you won't suddenly get charged for using it.
You can use NM and Exchange and any other email clients at the same time although NM may say you already have software to receive mail but just select yes and it will carry on with the set up. You can set it to autostart or manual. I use 'Email on 3' push software but have identical accounts set up in NM which I can manually start and it will download the same emails - I use it if I need or want to see the email using html which '3' doesn't at the moment.

  • Open letter to Nokia Messaging dev team: imap idle...

    Hi,
I would like to ask the developers of Nokia Messaging if they are aware of the fact themailclient in the E72 isn't supporting Imap IDLE anymore.
Before, in the E71 for example, there was indeed a timesetting in the native client BUT this was used when the client got disconnected. for example:client connected > phonecall arrives, client disconnects > phonecall ends > client connects after 5 minutes (or any other timespan accoridng to the settings) and STAYS connected.
Nokia Messaging: if you set it up at 5 minutes it checks every 5 minutes for mail. This is NOT 'idling' on a server. 'Idle' means in this case 'stay connected, just sit there and wait for messages')
the specs on your site CLEARLY state for the E72:
Supported protocols: IMAP4 (with idle), Nokia Messaging, Microsoft ActiveSync, POP3, SMTP
This means that the product that i have bought IS NOT DOING what you promise. I could probably solve with start using Nokia Messaging but this and was never my intention. I just the phone to do what it is supposed to do: imap idle without the use of Nokia Messaging as stated in its specs (as it was before by the way).
    WOULD APPRECIATE AN ANSWER!
Called Nokia support in Belgium. No answer from them.

We are far from being Nokia enemies. If anything, we are giving them free feedback. In corporate circles, concerned companies pay millions of bucks to the likes of Pricewaterhouse, etc to do strategic consulting, ie to tell them what really is right or wrong with their company, products, etc. In the new millenium, the internet and tools such as forums provide similar service, only at a fraction of the cost and a damningly honest one too!
My take on the matter is this: sure Nokia staff are reading these forums and laughing at us 'idiots'. The 'noise-makers' are few and far between. Nokia also has their die-hard fans (some people have never used any of the advanced features on their phones so would know little) as well as their own 'plants' (ppl who are Nokia employees tasked with dropping feel-good stories in various threads. I've done enough corporate consulting to know this ;-)
The same person who was supporting Nokia in this thread also had an extended argument with me in the afore-mentioned thread. Some people think someone having 300 odd contacts is a power-user (I have in excess of 1,300 contacts, 90% current and active). Some people questioned my desired to be able to snooze an alarm for a user defined period (that Nokia lover accused me for wanting "more bells & whistles than Fort Knox").
The last example is something simple that can implemented. My Palm circa 2003 had that feature. Say if an alarm sounds for a set event, but you are still in a meeting/busy, wouldn't it be gud to be able to snooze the alarm for a specified period, say 40 mins? At the moment, the E72 only lets you set ONE global snooze period which applies for all alarms.
The way I see it Nokia with its so-called business series of devices have 2 probs - (1) it has many bugs and high-end features that do no work as promoted / advertised, and (2) it lacks many simple features that cheaper/older phones have. Can't be too difficult for those Finns to decipher this, can it??
And what would happen to Nokia? Well, I think its getting so big headed in recent times that its alienating a lot of serious / old-time fans. In todays market, there is great variety of choice. If one is to get buggy and ill-designed products anyway then why pay premium dollars for a Finnish lemon when you can settle for a similar lemon (and at times with almost enuff bells & whistles to challenge Fort Knox) from say China, at a fraction of the price. And to think that many of these Chinese clones today ship with dual SIM capability as well as a (fuzzy no doubt) TV monitor!
My advice to folks out there, please do buy a Nokia if you are in the market for a cheap, no-frills phone to be used as a spare phone or on those mountain camping trips when a gud flashlight is required. But if you are looking for a serious BIZNESS SMARTPHONE, the E72 is definately not it. Still love you, darling!
There ought to be laws out there on the use of the term 'smartphone'

  • E72: Is there a new firmware for Nokia Messaging ?

    Hello,
I have E72 and it has integrated Nokia Messaging. But when I look up Nokia's messaging website, It talks about additional functions like social networking as part of nokia messaging. Are these available for E72 ? I also see the newer Nokia phones,C3,C6 & E5 already have the new version of messaging softwware. Any idea if E72 will get these ?
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Nokia Messaging is rather confusing as there are different components.
There's Nokia Messaging Email which is built into the E72 email client (which is part of the firmware).
Then there's Nokia Messaging for IM (aka 'Chat'), which you should have pre-installed as the 'Chat' app.
Finally there's Nokia Messaging for Social Networks which is another separate app.
If you go to http://messaging.nokia.com/ and select your phone, it will show you the services available in NM. You can't download the Email client as it's built into the firmware. You can download the IM app though to update the one built in (I think it may be available via Control Panel -> Phone -> Software Update on the phone also).
NM for Social Networks isn't currently available for the E72 officially. It was available as a beta but it's been removed, I believe due to quality issues. I had downloaded it and frankly it was fairly rubbish.
Personally, if you want an app for Facebook, you can do better getting the official Facebook app for the E72 (from the Ovi Store) and for Twitter get Gravity. The latter has some beta and alpha versions which also support Facebook (plus as GPS support and other features) which work great. Yes, Gravity costs money, but frankly it's well worth paying for as it's one of the best Twitter clients on any mobile phone.
P.S. NM for Email can only be updated by a firmware update of the email client. There are newer versions of the email client for 5th edition as it's not integrated into the firmware. Unfortunately Nokia decided to integrate it on the E72 and these updates are not available to us. That means crucially we don't get Destinations support in the email client

  • [E71-1] Nokia messaging not sync even after firmwa...

    Hi all,
For the past 3 months, my Nokia messaging is not SYNC automatically again from my Nokia E71-1.
Yesterday I tried to firmware upgrade my E71-1 (to latest firmware ver 410.21.010); and install Nokia Messaging from OVI store.
And then after 1st sync, all my emails coming back up (which is great); but then I have to sync manually to get the latest email.
Currently I have 5 emails account inside my Nokia messaging account (they are 2xGmail, Yahoo and other 2 from my local ISP).
Plan: Nokia Messaging - operator subscriber
    Subscription status Active
    My server settings:
    - Server name: netac5.vie.hosting.no... (unable to read the rest text)
    - Send and Receive: Soonest (I've changed to "every 15 minutes"; still the email not sync'ed automatically)
Is this issue because I have 5 email accounts checked by my Nokia Messaging?
    Thanks

I found a solution that works for my E71-1 (client 9.7.0.2). It's quite simple: In the Option menu of your Nokai email application - that is where you can see the buttons for all email accounts plus the SYNC button etc. - you should see an 'go online' or 'go offline' command (in German 'online gehen' or 'offline gehe'. After toggling this command from 'go online' to 'go offline' which will turn you on line, you can see the sync icon in the header line to go PERMANENTLY to sync status. It will sync every minute or so depending on your settings.
I can't believe it, that this is the solution after all the time I spent looking for it.

  • How do you forward, or move emails in Nokia Messag...

Help!! I cannot seem to find any command for forwaring emails in Nokia Messaging. I find it hard to believe Nokia did not put this utility in their email client.
It is not rocket science. Also, there is no way to move emails from one folder to another. I am looking to move certain emails from the Trash folder back to the Inbox. Even the simple Gmail client has both commands!
We are not asking Nokia to re-invent the wheel, just to copy it!!
    Can anyone help??

Hi, it's all done by keyboard shortcuts.  Go into your mailbox, select options and the help section - you'll find a list of all the shortcuts.  'f' is forward, 'm' is move . . .

my device should be fully up to date in every way so i dont have anything i can install.
    thanks for reading.

Think you may find it is a memory issue, the phone has very little free memory on C and applications like messaging and mail for exchange will not run successfully on them, suggest you uninstall and use standard email client !
