Nokia Messaging - Selecting an access point (N95)

Apologies if this has been covered before - I searched but couldn't turn up anything.
Maybe i'm missing something really obvious, but how/where on a N96 do I select which connection / access point the Nokia Messaging app uses to sync?
Thanks in advance.

Heh. I knew it was something (reasonably) obvious. For anyone else looking, it's found at:

I have a Canon MX882 printer and more often than note get an error message that says "Printer not Connected." When I check the printer itself, I get confirmation that the access point is connected. I tried reloading the software and that seemed to have solved the problem for awhile but I'm experiencing the same problem. Any ideas what is causing this?

Did you delete all receipts with iDVD in the file name  with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder before installing the new copy?  If not then do so and delete the new application also.

  • Chargeable Access Points N95

    Hi,
I spend a lot of time in London and use chargeable access points (eg BTOpenzone, T-Mobile, Cloud, etc).
Although I can connect to the point, enter my user ID and password and browse what would be really useful is the ability for the N95 to pass the userID and password automatically.
Could it be wrapped in a URL? Or would https scupper that plan?!?
    Any help very cool!

Trying to use Youtube... and this comes up when it goes to connect to server... any help appreciated!
    Thanks

As it says, you have to define your default access point, be it 3G, GPRS or WIFI. Are you using WIFI(your home if you have one) or the public access points?

  • Nokia Messaging hanging often - 5230

Howdy. My Nokia Messaging app seems
to hang quite frequently. I cannot access
my inbox without it just hanging. I can
neither recieve my emails, I'm just
restricted to sending them. Apart from
the odd once or twice when it actually works on it's own accord, I haven't
    found a way around it.
    Help??

    Hello Madal,
I had this same problem on my E71.  To resolve this issue, sign up for the Nokia Messaging service on http://email.nokia.com first.  If you've already signed up, then log into your Nokia Messaging account on http://email.nokia.com and send yourself an install SMS via the "Install now" button.  After you send yourself a new SMS from email.nokia.com, you'll likely receive two SMSs, but disregard the one that has a download/install link in it since you've already installed Nokia Messaging.  You want the provisioning SMS that asks you for your Nokia Messaging password and access point.  Once you see that screen, you are good to go.

  • Nokia 6600 error message ' select access'

I have a Nokia 6600 which keeps on asking me to select the access point every 30 seconds. Does anyone know how to stop this?

    Try the tips here:
    http://discussions.nokia.co.uk/discussions/board/message?board.id=messaging&message.id=89#M89
Note: The 6600 is too old to find the correct access point settings on its own, I think.

  • Access point Nokia messaging.

    I have a N97 mini.
How to delete access points in Nokia messaging? I have the latest version. I have Internet as access point. I have set Internet to ask before connecting as I want to use  wi/fi when possible. Despite that Messaging connects with 3G without asking. In messaging there are access points I would like to erase. Is that possible? Can I setup messaging to ask before connecting?

create a new destination in connectivity settings, copy your wifi access point to it. and set messaging to use that.
There's no dignity in begging for kudos. Do it for the karma.

  • 5800: How can I select access points manually in a...

The access point management of the 5800 is somewhat different: using Web you can select the access point every time you start it, but other applications using network (e.g. Opera Mini) start connecting Wifi or 3G whatever comes first which means when you are in another country and the signal of a Wifi hotspot is too weak it will select 3G and does not notify the user of it, which will cost lots of money then.
Is there a possibility that I can select manually  the access point at every application start like Web does ?
The older Nokias (e.g. E70) allowed to do this.
    Nokia 5800
    FW 30.0.011

Since you are using a Select-Option,  it could complicate things a little, but here is a sample program which is pretty locked down.
    report zrich_0001.
    tables: bsid.
    select-options: s_bldat for bsid-bldat no-extension..
    start-of-selection.
      read table s_bldat index 1.
      call function 'RE_ADD_MONTH_TO_DATE'
           exporting
                months  = '-12'
                olddate = s_bldat-low
           importing
                newdate = s_bldat-low.
      modify s_bldat index 1.
      check sy-subrc  = 0.

  • How can I let applications let select Access Point...

The access point management of the 5800 is somewhat different from older phones: using Web you can select the access point every time you start it, but other applications using network (e.g. Opera Mini) start connecting Wifi or 3G whatever comes first. Then you can only select that that access point is selected automatically at next use. This means when you are in another country and the signal of a Wifi hotspot is too weak it will select 3G and does not notify the user of it, which will cost lots of money then.
Is there a possibility that I can select manually  the AP at every application start like Web does ?
The older Nokias (e.g. E70) allowed to select the AP at every application start.
    Nokia 5800
    FW 30.0.011

The new "Destinations" method of managing the internet reflects the fact that many users now connect via several networks. A typical setup for the "Internet" destination might be:
    Priority 1: Home WLAN
    Priority 2: Work WLAN
    Priority 3: Operator AP
This way, the phone searches for the various APs in order of preferennce when you access the internet, allowing you to use different networks without switching the AP in settings.
Individual applications may have their own AP settings which override the phone's standard setup - I can't speak for Opera Mini, but I can give N-Gage as an example of an application that ignores the phones main settings in favour of its own configuration.

  • N97 OTA access point help

hi all, got a probem here that seems to been doin my head in over the last few days. basically i bought a brand new locked to tmobile N97, im a virgin customer.. now, i'm wanting to do a firmware upgrade.. due to having an old **bleep** laptop that only has 248mb of ram i cant d the upgrade via nokia pc suite so my only other option is OTA.. right, so, i dial *#0000# then go to options, then check for updates... up pops a message saying a need to define an access point, ok.. not understanding it much i try and manually add some stuff myself, to no avail... then i do some forum posting and manage to get these settings: Server Name Nokia Server ID Nokia Server password firmupservpass Access point [select your preferred AP] Host address https://dms.update.nokia.com/dms/omadm Port 443 User name nokiams DM password nokiamspass Allow configuration Yes Auto accept all requests Yes but... that hasnt solved my problem, when entered and i try to connect to do the upgrade i get a connection error. my only option is this forum, its a nokia fone and a nokia forum i cant get my head round it as i can use the internet n my fone brilliantly, surely the internet and the OTA access point are the same thing?

To add an access point select settings-connectivity-destinations-Access point , Automatically search for available access points ?, select yes and choose access point. Then go into Internet and set the priorities to WLAN number 1 T-Mobile number 2 etc
    Good Luck
PS Nokia Software Updater should still work on computer, even with low memory or weak internet , just a bit slower.
If I have helped at all, a click on the White Star is always appreciated :

  • Access point problem

I installed a MIDlet in my nokia 6600. When application tries to open an Http connection I have to select the access point. In my mobile I have set my default access point. Still it asks me to select access point everytime. How can I make the access point selection automatic? Can somebody please help me?
    Regards to everyone.

2.2mb of free space seems to be more than enough for you to create a new access point, hmm.. strange.
Would you want to try  freeing some memory space by moving gallery items from the phone memory to the memory card? If it still don't work, restoring of factory settings might work but all data will be lost if you choose to restore all. The last resort would be to have a software reflashing which can be done either via the NSU or at the service point.

  • N96 Video Ringtones and Access points

2 months on and my video ringtones still dont work, they try to start and then go to nokias horrible ringtone, also under email and realplayer the phone refuses to change the default access point entered which in my case with realplayer is none, this means my realplayer wont streaming anything!
Has anyone else had this issue.

You might have to categorise your access points manually, for example, move (or copy) your wireless lan network called 'Hello' to the internet access point group.
Also you should be able to select the access point real player uses within the settings menu, are you saying that only 'None.' is available? If so, thats weird!
Are your video ring tones on the memory card? (not mass memory) as this could slow down the opining of the videos, try using the default ones that came with the phone and see if they work.
If you can update your phone's firmware, like el_loco said, do it!

  • Setting time on 1130AG series Access Point

I noticed on one of my clients AP's which is an 1130AG series that it had a setting for SNTP. I was a little surprised that it did not have the capability to use regular NTP.
The SNTP servers configured for the AP were two Cisco routers.
Is this a common configuration? Is there a way to upgrade so that the AP's can use NTP?
The current code on the AP is 12.3(8)JA.
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    The commands for this changed from NTP to SNTP somewhere in the 12.2.x releases, so "older" AP IOS's did support NTP. Here is some info for 12.3.(4)JA;
Managing the System Time and Date
You can manage the system time and date on the wireless device automatically, using the Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP), or manually, by setting the time and date on the wireless device.
Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) is a simplified, client-only version of NTP. SNTP can only receive the time from NTP servers; it cannot be used to provide time services to other systems. SNTP typically provides time within 100 milliseconds of the accurate time, but it does not provide the complex filtering and statistical mechanisms of NTP.
You can configure SNTP to request and accept packets from configured servers or to accept NTP broadcast packets from any source. When multiple sources are sending NTP packets, the server with the best stratum is selected.
If multiple servers are at the same stratum, a configured server is preferred over a broadcast server. If multiple servers pass both tests, the first one to send a time packet is selected. SNTP will only choose a new server if it stops receiving packets from the currently selected server, or if a better server (according to the above criteria) is discovered.
    Configuring SNTP
SNTP is disabled by default. To enable SNTP on the access point, use one or both of these commands in global configuration mode:
    sntp server {address | hostname}
    [version number]
Configures SNTP to request NTP packets from an NTP server.
    sntp broadcast client
Configures SNTP to accept NTP packets from any NTP broadcast server
Enter the sntp server command once for each NTP server. The NTP servers must be configured to respond to the SNTP messages from the access point.
If you enter both the sntp server command and the sntp broadcast client command, the access point will accept time from a broadcast server but prefers time from a configured server, assuming the strata are equal. To display information about SNTP, use the show sntp EXEC command.
    Hope this helps!
    Rob
