Nokia Messaging visual indicator

It was said before that on v30 on Nokia 5800 there is a visual indicator of @ when
there is a new mail.
I seem to only have alert sound and thats it. any special settings I need to do ?
Thanks,
Roi

There is nothing wrong. It's a difference in how the two programs measure. Battery indicator doesn't as much tell you how much you actually have left, as it analyzes how you use your phone and estimates how much you should have left given how you usually use the program. The battery widget at the top is supposed to be an actual measure of how much is left. The two programs are usually far apart between 80-40%, then get closer to being on the same page.

What settings do I have to modify to have a visual indicator that I have received an email or call?
If you've been away, when you come back, how do you see there is a missed call or message?
It flashes when it comes in but goes back to black in a few seconds.

Ok, so I see there is not any LED that could be used as an indicator for received messages or calls. Shame.
Thinking about this mayor fraud, you lost it Nokia, and trying to be creative I think we could do something to ammend the issue.
Could someone write an app that smoothly fade in and out the Windows logo at the botton of the device?
I will need to look into Microsoft's sdk and see what they allow to do, perhaps I could write such an app.
If there are more developers out there that could look into this that will be great.

  • Nokia Messaging has a life of it's own.

Installed Nokia Messaging on my 5800XM a couple of weeks ago, and have struggled ever since to get it to work how I want, and am just about to bin the thing. But thought I'd make a last-ditch plea to see whether anyone can help me set it up the way I want.
I don't want an "always-on" function: I want to control when it synchronises. So I want to run the app when I want to, collect messages when I ask it to, and not do anything unless I command it. But it has a life of it's own ! My settings:
    1. General: manual application start.
    2. When to sync: (1) Days - nothing selected (2) Sync while roaming - always ask
    3. Options - offline
I thought, with these settings, I ought to be able to manually sync by selecting Send/Receive. And so it does. But it also starts up automatically (if I turn it off it simply starts up again uncommanded); it synchronises even when the app isn't running; and the data transfer indicator shows it's trying to do something even when the app is turned off and the setting is offline.
In short I don't trust it not to start initiating a data transfer when I don't want it to.
Can anyone offer any clues as to what might be going wrong here ? If not, useful as it is, it's the Uninstall option soon !

  • NoKia Messaging & Map 3.06 using in HKG

    Dear Nokia,
    I am still using 5800 since Nov'2009 (RM356 and v52.0.007)
    Product is good.
    Technology is OK.
After sale services were ideal though it caused tremendous pains on times & efforts spent to negotiating with your CS counterparts.
    Up to-day, I still have 2 problems.
1/ Ovi Map 3.06 - I had it updated & serviced thrice for the last 6 months,
      - Extra straight line(s) appeared and crashed during navigation after 1st and 2nd update around 2-4 months ago.
     - LCD still reboots automatically after last update thru OTA 2-days ago.
    2/ Nokia Messaging
     - When answering incoming and making outgoing calls, the phone keep delivering alerting  "beeping sound" with display "packet data is in use" during the conversations.
I stopped using Nokia Messaging since it drains battery much too fast and the battery level indicator is not showing the remaining power until the unit is power off and on again.
Breath-taking industrial design on Nokia smartphone is highly adored.
    Best regards
    stephen

    Dear adviser,
Let me brief you my experiences with Map 3.06 with 5800.
I update it when it's first available in OTA and homepage of Nokia HK( forgot the timing)
Bold horizontal line appeared on map and phone keeps rebooting.
Nokia service centre replaced the LCD screen and revert the original map 3.04 as pre-installed ( massive turnarounds)
I waited for another 2 month and update again.
Again horizontal lines and even vertical line crashing the map during navigation.
I took the phone back to Nokia service center again.  Again LCD screen was replaced.
Even the person-in-charge of the Center can't confirm if it's OK to use 3.06 in HKG given the fact that the official website of Nokia HK has published the availability of map 3.06 for months.
About couple weeks ago, I download map3.06 with much hesitations.
So far, no concurrent issues appeared.
As a general user, I felt Nokia is rather weak in optimising 5800 SW:
    handicapped of the OS chosen
Keeping delivering NEW problems to users after updates - likely due to the limit and trade-off that the OS can handle
Extremely Poor Communications between SW team with Marketing/CS Center over users experiences
1-Hour repair sucks for smartphones - Most problems come from SW
Cost of servicing is high for Nokia
Finally, I spent more than 100 hours to servicing 5800 over the year past.
I am sure I wouldn't have similar problems with iPhone even though I doubt if I can expect the same after sale services as offered by Nokia.
Both HW & SW engineers from Nokia should visit together and hear the needs from engineering, sales/marketing and even management of the retailers;  dealers, service providers etc by the doors; by the windows

  • Blackberry Connect for the N97? (Nokia Messaging ...

DAVISFIELDS, VANDELAY, JEREMIAHN, DEAN98 ARE YOU LISTENING?
I know Nokia was pushing BlackBerry Connect for some E Series devices last year.  Are they going to work with RIM to get this to the N97?  The current solution of having to open three different programs for Call Log, Email traffic, and SMS Traffic blows. I can't get HTML views of exchange mail?  What century is this?
If I want HTML views of any email, I have to download a second program called "Nokia Messaging" that apparently doesn't conflict with the "Nokia Messaging" that's installed on the phone already?    I'm still limited to html views only of my popular webmail provider accounts.
Tech support (even Tier 2) at nokia doesn't even know what nokia messaging is.  Private Messaging people in the Messaging team in the forums here doesn't work.  I think it's time to recognize that the N97 and support that goes with it is half baked and it's time to sell my N97.  Just to show there are no hard feelings, here's the constructive part of my criticism.
There should be a single view of all email traffic, sms traffic, and call logs.  I should be able to go into this single view, and see at:
    4:00pm I called Bill Rogers
4:05 I received an email on my gmail account from John Holmes
4:09 I sent an SMS to Michael Chong
4:20 I Received an SMS from Cheech Marin
    4:27 I got a call from Chuck D
4:58 I sent a message to Michael Gasol from my exchange account
5:01 I sent a gmail message to [email protected]
The list should be sorted by date by default but have other sortable and search entries. This doesn't take into account that the Blackberry Connect software integrates seamlessly with their BBM (IM) client, so I also see instant messages in the list too.
Tech support at Nokia should know how to use their FLAGSHIP model. Maybe a training course on the available products?
Hire a development and UI manager for the messaging interface.  The N97 is difficult to navigate at best and having such a terrible (let me repeat that, TERRIBLE) interface, makes it likely that end users think their phone is malfunctioning. A trained monkey could figure out not to ship your messaging product until it worked better.
Oh yeah, and the message store on the N97?  If I plug my N97 into my USB port as a mass storage device, my messages get pushed onto the main memory where there is practically no storage! Now I have an extra two inboxes (for exchange and SMS) that I need to check once I've unplugged my phone.  And if you have a message in  your inbox while in landscape mode and the envelope indicator is on the upper left hand corner next to the clock, you can't press on the envelope to go to the new message.  It works in portrait just fine, and when in the home screen the envelope is on the upper right and works.
Nokia, I think it's time I make a youtube video of why your N97 messaging interface sucks so hard.  I think the largest reason I'm writing this is because I haven't gotten a response from 3 or 4 of the Nokia employees in the messaging team that I've tried to message in here.
Yeah, I'd appreciate a response.  Otherwise, I think I've reached the tipping point where I sell this garbage, start slagging Nokia and dragging their names through online mud.

  • 5800XM - new Nokia Messaging user

    Hi
Have just installed Nokia Messaging on my 5800XM (was using emoze & thought I'd see if Messaging was better). Just a few queries that I hope someone with longer experience than I can answer:
    1. It always seems to connect using 3G. Is it possible to force it to connect via WLAN ?
    2. Is it possible to specify a "Reply to" address that's different to the address from which the email is sent ?
    3. I now find that the data transfer icon (little double-headed arrow at top left of screen under the signal strength indicator) is permanently on, even when Messaging is not running. This is annoying and could be expensive if used abroad. Can Messaging cause this (pretty sure it didn't happen before) ? If not can anyone advise how to identify the app that's causing this ?
    Thanks.

Thanks for your reply I looked into calendar software no problem but I find it hard to believe that you cant even set a new installed app to the softkeys?? There must be a way to add it to the list, make a shortcut etc...?
Find it hard to believe you cant change any system fonts either, critical as ive installed a dark theme and so need the menu and contacts fint white instead of black

  • SMS in Nokia Messaging?

    Nokia 6790
I just stumbled across Nokia Messaging. Love it! I've deleted my old mailbox and now use NM exclusively. However, SMS still comes in under the old software. Is there any way to integrate SMS into Nokia Messaging?
Also, once the audible notification of new mail comes in, there is no indication on the home screen that I have new mail waiting. If the sound or vibration is missed, I have to keep checking periodically. Is there an alternative that I'm missing? Some kind of visual notification like in the "old system"?
    Thx!

For SMS notifications there is no setting required... For audio alerts check your Profile settings.. and if you have a very high no. of messages stored on your phone.. delete as many as possible (from all the sub-folders of Messaging..) as this is one of the causes for 'NO notifications'...

  • N8 How do I find a discreet visual indicator of in...

My N8, which I love in almost every way, shows incoming text by flashing the menu button.  However, although when I have sound on I get a warning sound when an email (from gmail, if this is relevant) comes in, there's no silent indicator.  I can have a screen-based warning, but not only does it flash up that there is a new gmail it also states very visibly who it is from - not very private - so I took that off.  Does anyone know how to get a discreet silent visual indicator?

Currently there are no way to do it by default. the only solution is an email widget and i can understand you got some privacy issue with it. Try best notifications or some kind of similar programs from Ovi store. honestly i haven't tried any so i cant recommend one for you. Ya it is very much annoying that the nokia notification widget or simply the notification bar doesn't include email notifications and I hope the upcoming firmware will have a fix for it.

  • How (and where) can I create a new Nokia Messaging...

    Hi,
I just got a new E7 which I am currently pretty happy with, however when I go to email.nokia.com I only see a log-in form for the existing customers. Where can new users register and how can I do it? I can see that there is a Nokia Mail by Yahoo, but cannot find anything useful about push-mail there.
(Added later)I have successfully added a Google mail as a push mail to my phone and it IS WORKING,but I would like to add also our mail server but I cannot (I get a message that the password is wrong however it isn't since I can add the mailbox as POP3). After reading a lot of tutorials I SHOULD be able to log in to email.nokia.com with the first push-mail login credentials (in my case of google mail), however I get an error when trying to do so.
    TIA,

    Hi justme123,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
Nokia Messaging account should be automatically created when you add a new mailbox to your email client.  All account management and configuration are handled within the Nokia Messaging clients on the Nokia device. If you want to have Nokia Mail account, please see here.
To set up Hotmail or Gmail in Exchange ActiveSync, perform the following steps:
Go to the Mail application and select New mailbox.
    Preparing for setup is displayed.
    Select Exchange ActiveSync.
Enter your email address, password, username and domain.
    Connecting server is displayed.
Enter the server name when requested.
For Gmail Setup use the following values:
User Name: full email address (for example [email protected])
    Domain: google
    Mail for Exchange server: m.google.com
    Hope this helps,

  • E72 'Add to my Nokia Messaging account' VS Create ...

    Hi,
When adding an email account such as GMAIL my Nokia E72 gives me 2 options:
Add to my Nokia Messaging account
Create a separate mailbox that uses manual delivery
Again, this is an UI improvement: There is no contextual help or information regarding both options...
What are the pros and cons of using either options? Also, Vodafone proposer a similar application to connect to my mail accounts, do you know if it is any better?
    Thanks,
    Yvsn

There is no cost for using Nokia Messaging. It does say that it is a trial version but unofficially it appears it will be a never ending trial, and anyway you won't suddenly get charged for using it.
You can use NM and Exchange and any other email clients at the same time although NM may say you already have software to receive mail but just select yes and it will carry on with the set up. You can set it to autostart or manual. I use 'Email on 3' push software but have identical accounts set up in NM which I can manually start and it will download the same emails - I use it if I need or want to see the email using html which '3' doesn't at the moment.

  • Questions on Nokia Messaging (uploading sent email...

    Hi all,
    I have a few questions on Nokia Messaging;
Does it connect to (non-Exchange)  email servers via imap idle?
When I send an email, can it be uploaded to the 'Sent' folder in my email server?
When I delete an email from my Nokia, can the email be deleted from the server as well?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    1) No, even though the specs state otherwise. You may only have it pull Mails every 5 Minutes, or have them pushed using Nokia Messaging Service. Quite some disappointed customers hope this will change in the future, but I don't believe in it, because I feel nokia wants to force one to use their push service.
    2) No, at least not automatic. Of course you can sync your sent items folder and manually move your sent messages there from your local(on your phone)sent items folder, but that is not very efficient.
    3) Yes

  • Open letter to Nokia Messaging dev team: imap idle...

    Hi,
I would like to ask the developers of Nokia Messaging if they are aware of the fact themailclient in the E72 isn't supporting Imap IDLE anymore.
Before, in the E71 for example, there was indeed a timesetting in the native client BUT this was used when the client got disconnected. for example:client connected > phonecall arrives, client disconnects > phonecall ends > client connects after 5 minutes (or any other timespan accoridng to the settings) and STAYS connected.
Nokia Messaging: if you set it up at 5 minutes it checks every 5 minutes for mail. This is NOT 'idling' on a server. 'Idle' means in this case 'stay connected, just sit there and wait for messages')
the specs on your site CLEARLY state for the E72:
Supported protocols: IMAP4 (with idle), Nokia Messaging, Microsoft ActiveSync, POP3, SMTP
This means that the product that i have bought IS NOT DOING what you promise. I could probably solve with start using Nokia Messaging but this and was never my intention. I just the phone to do what it is supposed to do: imap idle without the use of Nokia Messaging as stated in its specs (as it was before by the way).
    WOULD APPRECIATE AN ANSWER!
Called Nokia support in Belgium. No answer from them.

We are far from being Nokia enemies. If anything, we are giving them free feedback. In corporate circles, concerned companies pay millions of bucks to the likes of Pricewaterhouse, etc to do strategic consulting, ie to tell them what really is right or wrong with their company, products, etc. In the new millenium, the internet and tools such as forums provide similar service, only at a fraction of the cost and a damningly honest one too!
My take on the matter is this: sure Nokia staff are reading these forums and laughing at us 'idiots'. The 'noise-makers' are few and far between. Nokia also has their die-hard fans (some people have never used any of the advanced features on their phones so would know little) as well as their own 'plants' (ppl who are Nokia employees tasked with dropping feel-good stories in various threads. I've done enough corporate consulting to know this ;-)
The same person who was supporting Nokia in this thread also had an extended argument with me in the afore-mentioned thread. Some people think someone having 300 odd contacts is a power-user (I have in excess of 1,300 contacts, 90% current and active). Some people questioned my desired to be able to snooze an alarm for a user defined period (that Nokia lover accused me for wanting "more bells & whistles than Fort Knox").
The last example is something simple that can implemented. My Palm circa 2003 had that feature. Say if an alarm sounds for a set event, but you are still in a meeting/busy, wouldn't it be gud to be able to snooze the alarm for a specified period, say 40 mins? At the moment, the E72 only lets you set ONE global snooze period which applies for all alarms.
The way I see it Nokia with its so-called business series of devices have 2 probs - (1) it has many bugs and high-end features that do no work as promoted / advertised, and (2) it lacks many simple features that cheaper/older phones have. Can't be too difficult for those Finns to decipher this, can it??
And what would happen to Nokia? Well, I think its getting so big headed in recent times that its alienating a lot of serious / old-time fans. In todays market, there is great variety of choice. If one is to get buggy and ill-designed products anyway then why pay premium dollars for a Finnish lemon when you can settle for a similar lemon (and at times with almost enuff bells & whistles to challenge Fort Knox) from say China, at a fraction of the price. And to think that many of these Chinese clones today ship with dual SIM capability as well as a (fuzzy no doubt) TV monitor!
My advice to folks out there, please do buy a Nokia if you are in the market for a cheap, no-frills phone to be used as a spare phone or on those mountain camping trips when a gud flashlight is required. But if you are looking for a serious BIZNESS SMARTPHONE, the E72 is definately not it. Still love you, darling!
There ought to be laws out there on the use of the term 'smartphone'

  • Time behind by 1 hour - Nokia Messaging

    Hello all,
I'm have two accounts (gmail + work email) that both have incorrect times for both inbox AND sent folder.  I send an email from my phone and it shows the time as 1 hour behind but shows up in my inbox on my computer as the correct time.  When I check the connection info, that is correct.  So I'm guessing it's an issue with my phone's clock?  I have it set to local time and automatic time update is turned on as well.  I use mail for exchange to sync my calendar with google calendar and the times there are correct there too.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and also have reset the data.
It was working correctly prior to my most recent hard reset (obv N97).  Can anyone point me to any setting that I may be overlooking?
    Thanks!

I have the same problem - any ideas, anyone?  I've tried messing with the clock settings per another message on here, but it makes no difference - either with Auto Time Update on/Local time or Auto Update Off (i'm in LA - GMT-7), restarting each time.  I have a 5800/RM-428 NAM, 50.2.05 - and this started happening recently when I updated Nokia Messaging to 10.2.02.26 (main) via SW Update.
    Thanks in advance!
