Nokia Music crashing system

Hello,
I am experiencing a lot of difficulty with the Nokia Music software. I currently use iTunes as I have an iPod to manage my music library. I've installed the software on the disc that came with my 5800, but when I try to import music (.m4a files) it does the first couple of artists and then freezes. It makes the whole system incredibly slow before freezing it completely.
I've tried doing it one folder at a time but the same thing happens. I thought it might be that because I have lots of files to import it might just take a long time, so left it overnight to see if it did it. When I came down this morning I had the blue screen of death. I restarted the computer and it came up saying something about a Realtek driver, no boot disc available. I tried starting up in safe mode and it got so far and then seemed to reset and go back to the screen re: booting. I tried this numerous times - I even tried restarting with last known good version and this did the same.
So, I have used the manufacturer's restore disc to boot the entire system. Has anyone else had any major problems with the software? When I installed it, the Windows Media Player Component failed but everything else installed ok. I have plenty of space on my hard drive and plenty of memory, so I don't understand what the problem is.
I'm using Windows XP Home SP2.
Thanks in advance

Have you tried updating your windows to SP3 as it fixes many bugs?
Other than that it seems like something on your system is causing a conflict.  The iTunes software has been known in the past to cause issues with nokia software.
Also try downloading the nokia music software from the website as it may be newer than the version on the disc.

  • Nokia music crashes after 1 track download on CWM

Nokia Music crashes (NokiaMusic.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close) everytime you download 1 track from comes with music. It downloads the track and appears to add it to the right directory if you look using file explorer, but it always comes up with the "encountered a problem" popup. Complete re-install on v1.2 on XP sp3. With deleting all "document and settings " related Nokia directories prior to re-installation. Also, crashes every time you do menu/file/import and choose a directory and go.  I've re-installed it numerous times and dont know what else to do. Any help much appreciated.

    Hi there,
just to share that i had this problem of nokia music crashing after every download and going on to the next.. this happened after i changed the music collection to a remote drive off my lappy( No space). Anyway that idiot pop up appeared and i tot i was doomed.. so i uninstalled the nokia music from the control panel.. then unhide all hidden files and ran the search for files in windows explorer for all file "Nokia"... deleted them. I went to C:\Documents and Settings\Whatever\Local Settings\Application Data\ and deleted the nokia folder. then go to C:\Program Files\  and delete "Nokia" folder. after i cleared all the damn nokia stuff, i restarted the PC then reinstalled nokia music.. suprisingly it worked the library had to rebuild itself and the login was still working fine. now it works again!! yahoo.

  • Nokia Music crash immediately after start-up

Recent attempt to open Nokia Music, the new application which combines Nokia Music Store and music player function much like Apple version of iTune software, has failed with a Windows error message popped up informing that the application will be closed and contact Microsoft for the problem. Upon clicking sending error report, the application will cease operation.
Several attempts to re-open the application resulted in the same situation. Recently, I have tried to use the application by not responding to the popped up message, hiding it beneath the taskbar and continue using Nokia Music application. Surprisingly, there is no problem accessing my library, Music Store, play music and update the meta data of my music collection.
What could have caused Windows to forcibly end the application while previous usage has not prompted any errors and ignoring the error message as I did, does not affect the functionality of the application?

I contacted Nokia Netherlands because I've experienced the Nokia
Music software crashes to, they emailed me a solution to this problem,
this is what the Mustafa from Nokia wrote to me:
    Dear RWSS,
    Thanks for contacting Nokia Care.
Remove Nokia music from your PC first, and go to the down listed path
and remove everything in the  Nokia folder, this could be a hidden location.
    C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data\Nokia
Check if your system has the minimum system requirements
You need Internet Explorer 6 or 7, Internet Explorer 8 is not supported by
Nokia Music Store. If you have installed Internet Explorer 8 you'll have to
downgrade to Internet Explorer 6 or 7.
You also need Windows Media Player 11 because Nokia Music uses
components of Windows Media Player 11. You also need .NET framework
3.0, if you're computer is up to date you'll have .NET Framework 3.5,
remove it and replace it with version 3.0.
If automatic update is on in Windows you'll get the same problems again
and you should turn automatic update off.
If you need more information, don't hesitate to contact us again.
    Regards,
    Mustafa

My advice is to wait till they support Internet explorer 8 and .NET framework 3.5, don't uninstall them, don't leave your computer open to security risks, this is why Micro$oft brings updates out.
Nokia should support these because .NET framework 3.5 and IE8 are much safer then previous versions.

  • PC Suite/Nokia Music Crashes Windows media Player

    Vista X64 SP1
     PC suite 7.1.30.9
    nokia music 1.3.20722.01
After downloading, installing and running these programs yesterday I got a message saying 'Windows media player has stopped working, I haven't loaded windows media player, so presumably this is down to the music application. After I receive this message I can't run media player, or winamp until I restart my computer.
After a restart if I load winamp before nokia music it plays fine, I get the error message but winamp keeps working, but if I close it and try and open it it won't load again.
It's pretty weak that these applications are preventing other software on my computer from working, I mean it's not like media player and winamp are obscure programs.
Has anyone else had this or know of a way to fix it.

I have a similar problem. When I connect my E52 to my PC in "PC Suite" mode (USB/or Bluetooth) the currently running WinAmp will be crash in a few secounds. If I try to restart it, the same will happen as long as the phone connected. This poblem exits on both of my computers (on has Win XP, the oder has VIsta on it)
    Regards

  • Nokia Music Player crash on start-up after upgrade...

I have upgraded Nokia Suite from Ovi Suite and found that the Ovi Player cannot start after the next restart. I have tried to upgrade the player to Nokia Music Player and had error during software download for multimedia common component. There is no problem using Nokia Suite. Can anyone help to troubleshoot what has gone wrong and where should I begin to get Ovi Player work?
I was a Nokia Music Unlimited user and has all my songs on the PC with Ovi Player can't start. The last crash I had has caused me to redownload some of the songs due to drm licensing problem. I hope the recommended suggestions would not cause me to loose the drm licenses again. thanks!

    Hi GoldenChylde,
Nokia Music is not a virus, as other users have found that sometimes their anti-virus software may cause conflicts (not only with Nokia software but other programs), as the AV program brings up the program as a false positive (i.e. incorrectly detects the program as being an invasive process that is seeking to damage the user's computer through installation/operation etc). Is impossible for all AV programs to have a database that knows to exclude Nokia programs, and the same goes for any other computer program out there.

  • This MP3 crashes the M4A converter in Nokia Music ...

Please see the attachment. Are any other forum users able to confirm their NMM crashes with this MP3?
Note: only ~3% of the original MP3 has been included so as not to constitute a copyright violation.
This part-file crashes the MM just like the full MP3 does. Within a few milliseconds of starting the conversion, NMM disappears from screen completely and must be re-launched from the PC Suite panel.. Even if it cannot process a file, NMM should not crash this disastrously!

    Hi,
Similar to your issue it has been discussed already in following post
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=pcsuite&message.id=27759&query.id=1303934#M27759
Which phone are you using?  Is it compatible with Nokia Music?  Does your handset has got memory card slot?  If yes for above questions, you can install Nokia Music and connect your device in Media player mode(or similar to this mode) using Nokia Music and check this issue.

  • Nokia Music Manager crashes when converting MP3s

Nokia Music Manager is driving me crazy.
First of all, if i try to convert all the files together, it crashes after converting the first file.
If i try to convert each file one by one, it crashes on many of the files and i again have to search for the files and continue the conversion.
    Why so many problems?

    Hi people,
A quick update on what I've found re this issue recently.
I totally uninstalled all the PC-Suite & add-ons & then ran an app. from the nokia site called PC-Suite cleaner to get rid of all the left overs typically left behind during uninstalls. Then re-installed the latest (7.0.9.2) version from a new download.
I had noticed that immediately before the crash, Vista came up with a message that an appliocation had caused a change to the default colour scheme (????) and tracked this to Quicktime. So I installed the latest version of quicktime.
    After all this, ....
.... the problem is exactly the same and now the other (possibly related) issue of the "All music" section (containing found music from a search) disappears as soon as the OK (tick) or close (cross) button is clicked (which makes the other issue irrelevant, as there are no tracks to convert).
In the meantime, I have highlighted this issue to Nokia in one of their online surveys & plan to raise it dirrectly with customer support in the next few days.

I guess I'll use DOS since nobody supports CP/M anymore...

  • Nokia Music Manager Crashing

When scanning my computer for music, Nokia Music Manager goes through, starts finding songs from the folder i have directed it to, and then crashes after finding approximately 1950 songs. I have not even got as far as trying to transfer them to my phone.
    Any help appreciated.

I'm wondering if there is a bad file that it can not load and then crashes?
To be honest im not sure, i'd be intrested to know if the crash happens in the same place evrey time.

  • Nokia Music not working anymore - crashes immediat...

Hi guys. I have been using Nokia Music standard version without any problems for several months in Lumia 820, but now the application is not working anymore. When I click the "Nokia Music" from the list of applications, the app opens ok, but after 2 seconds it closes automatically. I cannot select any of the functionalities (mix radio, create a mix etc...). There is no error message displayed, it just goes back to the application list menu. I have not installed any new apps to my phone recently. Phone restart is not helping. Problem occurs both when using WiFi and also with mobile data. As per Settings/PhoneUpdate my Lumia 820 is up-to-date. I'm located in Finland. Thanks

  • Nokia Music (Software) - Can't import files

    Hi
I'm having trouble importing music with Nokia Music (Version 1.2.20226.01). The files are in a folder on my Windows desktop, but for some reason when I try to import them into Nokia Music, it doesn't see them.
Even stranger is the fact that the files play through Nokia Music, but I cant seem to import them into the PC Collection.
Has anyone had a similar problem or can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
    Thanks

I'm experiencing this problem for the 2nd time now. The first time I tried everything I could think of and ended up contacting nokia support... this is the solution I was given:
I would suggest that you kindly uninstall Nokia Music application from your PC by following the steps below:
The Nokia Music installation is shown in:
Add/Remove programs listings within Control Panel of Windows XP (Classic View)
Both of these locations can be navigated to by pressing Windows Key + R > enter: appwiz.cpl
Within the list that shows all of the non-OS (Operating System) installed programs on the PC, there will be entry for Nokia Music. Select this entry, then select "Remove" from the options to the right. After the uninstallation process has succeeded, you may be prompted to restart your PC, please do so. Kindly note that this process will remove the Nokia Music application only. It will not remove any music content downloaded from the service.
Once removed from the PC, delete or rename the MDataStore.db3 file in C:/documents and settings/<username>/local settings/application data/nokia data store/database. Then reinstall the Nokia Music client again and attempt to download the music content.
NOTE: The <username> will be the Windows username used by customer.
    Steps to locate the MDataStore.db3:
    C:/documents and settings/<username>/local settings/application data/nokia data store/database
Please select Tools>folder options>view> show hidden files and folders (from windows explorer). Kindly reboot PC after deleting the MDataStore.db3 file.
Before reinstalling Nokia Music client, please note the following:
    1) If security settings are set too high, the Nokia Music client may not have installed properly.
In Internet Explorer, select Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites, and set the default level to Low.
    2) If you are using internet security or firewall, such as Norton Internet Security, Panda or Zone Alarm, they may block the Active X control from running. Check the program configurations, and lower the overall security settings to medium/low
    3) It is recommended that you add Nokia domain (*.nokia.com) as a trusted site in your firewall.
    4) Kindly ensure that your Internet connection is stable. After the above steps are followed, please try again to download Nokia Music client. You can refer to the link below to download and install Nokia Music client:
    http://www.nokia.com.sg/A41201680
    It worked for me - hope you guys have the same result;

  • Anyone got Nokia Music to work with (recognise) N9...

Several times over the last months I have tried to get Nokia Music to work with my N95 8GB.
Every time I have spent hours and hours installing, upgrading, uninstalling etc etc but never success.
The Nokia Music PC software will not recognize my phone.
No matter what kind of connection i choose when i connect the phone - PCSuite, Mediaplayer etc, none of them makes the Nokia Music recognise the phone.
I am currently running Windows XP SP3, PC-suite 7.1.30.9, Nokia Music 1.3.20716.09, phone firmware is 31.0.015, phone code is 0550372
I am (_again_) dead tired of this, and for the moment (again) I truely hate Nokia PC software.
Has anyone got Nokia Music to work with N95 8GB?
    Regards,
    Njål
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

     Hi Njaale
Yes - it is working fine for me on a n95-
You need to connect your n95 in Media player mode.
You have  1.3.20716.09  but the latest version is - 1.3.2072
    1) You can get the latest version from here - http://musicstore.nokia.com/download.aspx
    2) If you are having licencing issue it could be because of the drm folder . If step one does not work try to delete the drm folder - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM . You need to make sure that hidden files and folders are not hidden and also that protected operating system files are not hidden.
    To see hidden files:
    1.
On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
    2.
    Click the View tab.
    3.
Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
Oh and just to be sure you are using nokia music
Here is a picture of it - http://www.slashphone.com/media/data/766/nokia_music.jpg
You can see in that picture on the left hand side is the phone you drag and drop your music into that phone picture to transfer your music.
Nokia pc suite below does not transfer nokia music
    picutre - http://tltc.shu.edu/mobile/Nokia-PC-Suite_1.png
This is because the software in the first link (nokia music) is designed to recognise "DRM" software. But nokia PC suite in the second link does not currently do that.

  • Nokia music not playing my files

    Good day,
I'd like some help with this:
Nokia Music won't play any files on my pc. It was working fine before but I've recently had my pc rebuilt from a crash. I installed nokia pc suite then Nokia Music after that then it scanned my pc for music files and added them to its library but when I try to play, it shows the small triangle with the ! symbol and doesn't play.
    Thanks.
    o'rume

I'm having a very similiar problem. But in my case the mp3 files play fine, but the m4a music doesn't play at all and I instead get a triangle.
Which is very odd, cause I just ripped my favorite CD to 128 Kbps AAC(.m4a) but it simply doesn't work. But when I ripped it to mp3, it does work. But I don't want it as mp3 files since the AAC compression is superior.
Oh, and m4a files that I ripped with Nokia Music play fine in other software, like VLC Media Player and foobar2000. It's just Nokia Music that can't play the files it ripped itself.

    Hi all,
I'm having some trouble with Nokia Music on my windows XP computer.
I looked trough all the other threats but nothing looks the same.
Yesterday everything worked fine but after a reboot things got wrong. When I trie to start the app it sais there was an error in the app.
When I trie to reinstall, also removed the files in documents and settings: ...
The error happens even when I trie to uninstall or install.
What can I do about it except reinstall the whole pc?
    kind regards,
    J

Ok. I read just about everything on in this discussion group and Apple notes.
I then declared all out war on this this evening. I won.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Assumption - you have Norton AV or Norton System Works installed. I suppose it will work if you have NIS installed.
    2. Removed ALL my anti-spyware programs (i.e. Spybot 1.3 and Microsoft's Anti-Spyware).
    3. Rebooted.
    4. Opened up Norton AV settings in Norton System Works and selected Internet Worm Protection.
    5. Under Applications - Added iTunes and iTunes Helper. Set operation to PERMIT ALL.
    6. Under "General Rules", I added a new rule named "iTunes".
    7. Under the "Communications Tab", I added a rule to allow UDP traffic to both local and remote ports 5353.
    8. Rebooted.
    9. This time, when the system started, I got a message indicating that "application iTunes is trying to access the internet." Clicked on "Remember and allowed the operation.
At this point, things started working.
The removal of the Anti-spyware programs MAY or MAY NOT be necessary. I will add them back in to see if they make any difference or not.
Now - Apple, my suggestion to you is to PUBLISH the ports and protocols and network targets. I was only able to gleam the ports used because Sygate indicated that iTunes was using UDP port 5353 to communicate.
Anyway, for those of you with this problem and are running ANY of the programs mentioned here, try my recommended course of action.
    Charles
P.S. Now, I need to figure out what causes the occassional skip/stutter. But, my iTunes is working.

    Hi, thanks for your post.
You likely owned another Nokia phone before which was used with your Nokia Music Unlimited subscription. You will have to contact Nokia Care by phone, mail or chat (where available) to have the license transferred to your Lumia. Please be aware that after this is done it may take 5 working days for the transfer to propagate through the system.
