Nokia Music software - Suggestions on improving it

In the 0.000001 % chance of anyone from Nokia support / Software development etc etc actually reading this, may I make a small suggestion to improve on the Nokia Music software.
Can you please please please give us users the choice of HOW the software stores the music files onto the PC & also on the phone's memory card
Can we have a choice of whether the files are stored as 'Artist' > 'Album' > 'Track' OR just 'Album' > 'Track'
As an example of how bad this is - Using the Nokia Store & Nokia Music - I had downloaded just 2 albums done by Will Smith & transferred straight over to my 5800XM phone (w/o any editing)
I ended up with fourteen (Yes - FOURTEEN) folders on my MicroSD memory card
All started with E:/music/Will Smith (feat. ......) (followed by some1 elses name) & only containing 1 or 2 songs in each folder'
I don't know about anyone else - but I like my music stored in folders named after the Album, that way I have 16 (or more) tracks in a folder - & it looks IMHO more organisied
Motto: Illegitimis non carborundum

I've just found out another problem
It MAY be my particular setup or something - but when I browse the Nokia music 'shop' & click the 'play 30sec clip' to listen to the track (to check it's the right version before downloading it) - Nokia Music software crashes with a message of (something like)
'NokiaMusic.exe has caused a problem......'
Now whether this is because I've got 'Comes with music' or it's because my 'default media player' isn't M$ Media player or that I have 'alternative Realplayer' instead of the 'Proper' Realplayer or something totally different - it's bloody annoying
OK so I've got ~1yr free downloads - but I don't really want to download the track just to see if it's the track I really want, I'd like to 'stream' the 30sec clip before I decide

  • Nokia Music (Software) - Can't import files

    Hi
I'm having trouble importing music with Nokia Music (Version 1.2.20226.01). The files are in a folder on my Windows desktop, but for some reason when I try to import them into Nokia Music, it doesn't see them.
Even stranger is the fact that the files play through Nokia Music, but I cant seem to import them into the PC Collection.
Has anyone had a similar problem or can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
    Thanks

I'm experiencing this problem for the 2nd time now. The first time I tried everything I could think of and ended up contacting nokia support... this is the solution I was given:
I would suggest that you kindly uninstall Nokia Music application from your PC by following the steps below:
The Nokia Music installation is shown in:
Add/Remove programs listings within Control Panel of Windows XP (Classic View)
Both of these locations can be navigated to by pressing Windows Key + R > enter: appwiz.cpl
Within the list that shows all of the non-OS (Operating System) installed programs on the PC, there will be entry for Nokia Music. Select this entry, then select "Remove" from the options to the right. After the uninstallation process has succeeded, you may be prompted to restart your PC, please do so. Kindly note that this process will remove the Nokia Music application only. It will not remove any music content downloaded from the service.
Once removed from the PC, delete or rename the MDataStore.db3 file in C:/documents and settings/<username>/local settings/application data/nokia data store/database. Then reinstall the Nokia Music client again and attempt to download the music content.
NOTE: The <username> will be the Windows username used by customer.
    Steps to locate the MDataStore.db3:
    C:/documents and settings/<username>/local settings/application data/nokia data store/database
Please select Tools>folder options>view> show hidden files and folders (from windows explorer). Kindly reboot PC after deleting the MDataStore.db3 file.
Before reinstalling Nokia Music client, please note the following:
    1) If security settings are set too high, the Nokia Music client may not have installed properly.
In Internet Explorer, select Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites, and set the default level to Low.
    2) If you are using internet security or firewall, such as Norton Internet Security, Panda or Zone Alarm, they may block the Active X control from running. Check the program configurations, and lower the overall security settings to medium/low
    3) It is recommended that you add Nokia domain (*.nokia.com) as a trusted site in your firewall.
    4) Kindly ensure that your Internet connection is stable. After the above steps are followed, please try again to download Nokia Music client. You can refer to the link below to download and install Nokia Music client:

    It worked for me - hope you guys have the same result;

  • Nokia Music software

I would be nice if there was a option to select music into a 'now playing' temp playlist. I could then scroll through all music and add as I was listening to the current track. It would then move on to the next one i added. Like the Creative Zen does. Is it possible to include something like this in the next software package?

Yes please please please Nokia make it possible. I just bought a N78 and the ONLY thing I don't like is just that!

  • Nokia Music does not recognize my 6233, but PC Sui...

    Hi,
I using my 6233 for a long time now.
When I connect my phone to my Windows XP USB in Standard mode, it will be recognized fine by the PC Suite and I can access all functions from that software.
When I connect the phone as a storage device it is recognized by Windows and a drive letter is assigned.
    That's all fine so far.
Since I've updated to the most recent PC Suite, there is a new 'Nokia Music' item.
I clicked on it to organize my playlists on the phone and it installed a new software.
This new Nokia Music Software does not recognize my phone at all.
I tried all possible connection methods, but there is never a phone shown in Nokia Music.
As there are no problems in the PC Suite or with a connection as a diskdrive, I have no idea how to manage playlists on the phone.
With the old Music Manager integrated in the PC Suite I never had such problems.
    Any ideas ??
    Joe

I also have exactly the same problem with the new Nokia music and my 6233, the old software was pretty bad but at least it worked.

  • Nokia Music crash immediately after start-up

Recent attempt to open Nokia Music, the new application which combines Nokia Music Store and music player function much like Apple version of iTune software, has failed with a Windows error message popped up informing that the application will be closed and contact Microsoft for the problem. Upon clicking sending error report, the application will cease operation.
Several attempts to re-open the application resulted in the same situation. Recently, I have tried to use the application by not responding to the popped up message, hiding it beneath the taskbar and continue using Nokia Music application. Surprisingly, there is no problem accessing my library, Music Store, play music and update the meta data of my music collection.
What could have caused Windows to forcibly end the application while previous usage has not prompted any errors and ignoring the error message as I did, does not affect the functionality of the application?

I contacted Nokia Netherlands because I've experienced the Nokia
Music software crashes to, they emailed me a solution to this problem,
this is what the Mustafa from Nokia wrote to me:
    Dear RWSS,
    Thanks for contacting Nokia Care.
Remove Nokia music from your PC first, and go to the down listed path
and remove everything in the  Nokia folder, this could be a hidden location.
    C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data\Nokia
Check if your system has the minimum system requirements
You need Internet Explorer 6 or 7, Internet Explorer 8 is not supported by
Nokia Music Store. If you have installed Internet Explorer 8 you'll have to
downgrade to Internet Explorer 6 or 7.
You also need Windows Media Player 11 because Nokia Music uses
components of Windows Media Player 11. You also need .NET framework
3.0, if you're computer is up to date you'll have .NET Framework 3.5,
remove it and replace it with version 3.0.
If automatic update is on in Windows you'll get the same problems again
and you should turn automatic update off.
If you need more information, don't hesitate to contact us again.
    Regards,
    Mustafa
    Advanced Technical Care Team

My advice is to wait till they support Internet explorer 8 and .NET framework 3.5, don't uninstall them, don't leave your computer open to security risks, this is why Micro$oft brings updates out.
Nokia should support these because .NET framework 3.5 and IE8 are much safer then previous versions.

  • Nokia Music crashing system

    Hello,
I am experiencing a lot of difficulty with the Nokia Music software. I currently use iTunes as I have an iPod to manage my music library. I've installed the software on the disc that came with my 5800, but when I try to import music (.m4a files) it does the first couple of artists and then freezes. It makes the whole system incredibly slow before freezing it completely.
I've tried doing it one folder at a time but the same thing happens. I thought it might be that because I have lots of files to import it might just take a long time, so left it overnight to see if it did it. When I came down this morning I had the blue screen of death. I restarted the computer and it came up saying something about a Realtek driver, no boot disc available. I tried starting up in safe mode and it got so far and then seemed to reset and go back to the screen re: booting. I tried this numerous times - I even tried restarting with last known good version and this did the same.
So, I have used the manufacturer's restore disc to boot the entire system. Has anyone else had any major problems with the software? When I installed it, the Windows Media Player Component failed but everything else installed ok. I have plenty of space on my hard drive and plenty of memory, so I don't understand what the problem is.
I'm using Windows XP Home SP2.
    Thanks in advance

Have you tried updating your windows to SP3 as it fixes many bugs?
Other than that it seems like something on your system is causing a conflict.  The iTunes software has been known in the past to cause issues with nokia software.
Also try downloading the nokia music software from the website as it may be newer than the version on the disc.

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

    Hi Nokia!
I purchased your Nokia 5800 Xpress Music mobile phone and I am trying to update the software/driver to improve 1: Touch Screen scrolling, 2: version of OviMaps, 3: Ovi Contacts, 4: SW application, and 5:  WLAN performance.
I called technical support for mobile phones, unfortunately it is unavailable according to the recording, i've waited for i think its wrong, but nothing happened the call dropped.
The current software version is V31.0.101, Software version date: 16-09-2009, type: RM-356 and it does not upgrade. I have tried using my phone options to upgrade/update the software, this did not work, i have tried using the Nokia Software Updater but it can not find the new version of the software, and I have tried searching for the new software version by using my phone code under the battery and still it can not find the new software version.
Has anyone resolve this issue? I need help on resolving this issue.
    Nokia any solution?

The phone touch screen is not very responsive.
Limited setting/shortcut you can set on the main screen.
Alarm is inconsistent. Sometimes it’s late.
Clock settings/time zone is not working properly.
The charger port on the phone is a bit loose. Charging gets interrupted even if there is only little movement.
Option is to update NOKIAs 5800 software. Current version is V31.0.101, the latest version is V40.0.005.
Nokia PC Suite / Nokia Software Updater cannot find the update
Tried to use the mobiles code, still cannot find the update
My mate has the same mobile NOKIA 5800 on a Virgin Mobile plan; he was able to update the software. I got images of his phone and my phone with different versions, mine was the old version his got the new 40.0.005 His mate has the same phone as well, which they manage to update the software. He tried helping me update the software, but ended up unable to update the software and got frustrated.
Option is to speak with TeleChoice Barrack Street. After TeleChoice checked the phone why it will not upgrade they suggested having the phone serviced/checked by Nokia Care in Morley.
I let Nokia have a look at the mobile/issue, they told me they will be able to update the software for me, I left my mobile with them, and after 3 business days and the going back and forth to Nokia, and they were unable to update the software. Very sadly, they said it’s being locked by Optus.
I am using 3 as my provider, the mobile I bought it outright from TeleChoice, no plan whatsoever. So I don’t understand why Nokia said it is being locked by Optus.
The option provided for me is to patiently wait for updates, which is available now or to return the product.
Now I am processing a replacement of the device from TeleChoice 10/02/03, hoping to have the issue rectified. They should rectify this, or there will be a violation againts fair trading.

Actually, it has nothing to do with locking to their network. That's a totally different problem altogether that's independent from the branding.
What's happening here is altering the firmware so that it contains Three's logo and links to some of their services in the menu. Plus maybe a few alterations to maintain compatibility with the network, although they should be minor since unbranded phones will work on Three.
The trouble with making these alterations to updated firmware is that it takes time and therefore money to do it, and they get nothing in return. That's why it's such a low priority for network operators to approve updates.

  • Suggestions To Improve E90 Calendar

    Hi,
I bought the E90 Communicator to replace my old PSION Series 3mx and I am quite happy with it.
I use the calender application a lot, and that's were I'm missing a few features I used a lot on my PSION:
    - copy & paste an entry
    - repeat entry not only by date, but also by day of week (for example: every second Friday of the month)
    - search entries (for example: find the next appointment with my doctor)
I hope to find these features in one of the next software updates.

Thanks for the clarification - its nice to know I did not misunderstand your original intention.
and I think the post and discussion was/is a good idea -
regardless of whether Nokia wants to/will actually visibly follow up on whats discussed here -
it seems - it seems to me that someone from there might well... just happen across this page (one reason for a forum in the first place - is to get a sense of what the users are talking about)... and make some notes.
I believe that companies that dont communicate directly with their customers (but advertise that they do!).. will listen - they just dont want to COMMUNICATE.. (because there are just too many of us - with too many "good ideas" and too many clueless about what it would take to actually do what we want...
So if anybody coming along wants to make suggestions to IMPROVE the native calendar... I think the suggestions should be made here - despite the fact that the other people -with far more experience (and frustration) are more interested in using this piece to compare someone else's product.
We're on a Nokia site... Nokia is looking - whether we see immediate evidence of this or not...
thanks for the post! its a good idea - no matter what "they" say! (smile)

  • Nokia Music PC application

I have an N95 and don't use Windows Media Player to sync my music with my phone because it doesn't send album art automatically during sync.
I have started using the Nokia Music App. and it does all this, however i'm a little dissapointed that it doesn't match the Windows player in functionallity and ease of use.
It sometimes doesn't transfer all music files i selected and is very slow compared to the Windows app.
I'm waiting patiently for the next version?
Please nokia improve the Music app as I want to stick with it.
Any one any ideas or information about an upcoming next version?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am also running Nokia Music (Version 1.0) and find it to be quite slow and buggy. I know its new so thats expected but I hope some of these bugs can be fixed. Here's some of the bugs I found in this release:
    1. Scaling issuses in "Tracks" view (the bottom and right hand corners of the art appear to be cut off).
    2. Ripping of long CDs end in an error message "An unknown error has occured (80070001)". For reference The two CDs I used included: 30 Seconds to Mars - Self-titled album and Breaking Benjamin - Phobia. On both CDs Nokia music is unable to rip the last track on the disc and is unable to play it it ends in static.
    3. The music recommendation feature doesn't work.
    4. Songs ripped using the "Nokia Music Manager" from "PC Suite" lack metadata when imported to "Nokia Music".
    5. CDs ripped using the ACC endcoder (at all biterates) sound like an am radio.
Apart from all of these bugs I still like the software and hope that these bugs will be fixed for the next release. Keep up the great work guys.

  • Unable to sign in to Nokia Music

A few weeks ago I successfully installed Nokia music and registered Comes With Music using a pin provided with my brand new Nokia 5800.
For a while everything was hunkydory........until now
Now whenever I try to sign in to the Comes with Music part of Nokia Music I end up looking at a page which says "Sorry, the page you want has moved or does not exist"
    OK...........
It then suggests to click on a link provided to return to the homepage where I can download to my hearts content.........................for a price tho, of course.
So does anyone know a way out of this apparent dead end?

    Hi All,
I am experiencing the same problem as well. The error messages and problems I encountered are listed below:
    i) When clicked on "STORE" and "Sign In" tabs, the page does not load. Error message: "We are sorry, Nokia Music is currently unavailable, please try again later"
ii) When entering login details on licensing request window while playing newly downloaded songs:
       a) Error message: "Please disconnect your mobile device and try again" while there is NO mobile device being connected to PC!!
       b) Error message: "You need license for music playback, please sign in as a different user" while my account is active and I have not entered the wrong login details
       c) Error message: "License is needed for the media playback" while I have entered the correct login details
iii) Other licensing problem when clicking newly downloaded, never been played songs:
       a) Licensing request window DOES NOT pop up at all
       b) Licensing request window popped up but stall while loading
       c) Licensing request window loads slowly
Nokia Care has offered the following troubleshooting steps, not sure if it works for you but not for me:
"I'd greatly appreciate it if you could try uninstalling the Nokia Music application and then try re-installing it again on your PC. It is best to go through "Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Nokia Music" to completely uninstall the application. Thereafter, please restart your PC. Once that is done, you can visit the web link below to re-install the application on your PC:
    http://www.nokia.com.sg/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-music-support/compatibility...
Prior to downloading the Nokia Music application, please temporarily disable any firewall or anti-virus programs that you have on your PC. Once all is successfully done, please try using the Nokia Music application and monitor the issue.
You could also try the following steps:
    1) Clear the cache and temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer:
Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Delete cookies and delete files
    2) Change the security settings in your browser is set to Medium (assuming that you are using Internet Explorer, you can follow the steps below
Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Default Level > Medium
During all the above steps, please ensure that you are still connected to the Internet. "
Nokia Care has also attributed the login failures to network congestion. As he did not elaborate more, I hope he is not referring to server not able to handle overwhelming request during peak hours as it shouldn't have heppend and they should upgrade the server for better stability and accessibility. They have even suggested to log into Nokia Music during non-peak or odd hours which is not a very good idea as it does not solve the root cause. I have tried to log in early in the morning but the result is intermittent.

I have upgraded Nokia Suite from Ovi Suite and found that the Ovi Player cannot start after the next restart. I have tried to upgrade the player to Nokia Music Player and had error during software download for multimedia common component. There is no problem using Nokia Suite. Can anyone help to troubleshoot what has gone wrong and where should I begin to get Ovi Player work?

    Hi GoldenChylde,
Nokia Music is not a virus, as other users have found that sometimes their anti-virus software may cause conflicts (not only with Nokia software but other programs), as the AV program brings up the program as a false positive (i.e. incorrectly detects the program as being an invasive process that is seeking to damage the user's computer through installation/operation etc). Is impossible for all AV programs to have a database that knows to exclude Nokia programs, and the same goes for any other computer program out there.

  • Disappointed with Nokia Music service

I paid $170 for Nokia Music credit in June 2008.
I bought about $100 worth of music, but had a lot of trouble getting it to work.
After numerous service calls and emails, multiple PC and handset software updates, multiple backups and memory card formats, tweaking every conceivable mode and setting, and still no functioning music, I finally gave up in March 2009 and requested a refund. Nokia Music refused.
Since then I have repeatedly requested a refund or a fix for my problems.
In June 2009 my unused credit expired. I requested an extension of my unused credit, as per the user agreement, but they never responded.
Last month Nokia Music apparently decided that they had to cut off contact with me. Suddenly, mysteriously, the rights for my songs all expired at once. They said that they would no longer provide support as my song rights had all expired. They no longer respond to my emails.
So I’m very unhappy with the service. I have no playable music. I have lost unused credit that I was unable to spend. I have run up considerable phone bills on hold with the Careline. Most importantly I have wasted many, many hours over the last 18 months trying to get the music to work.
I've also bought songs from iTunes Plus and they worked first time, every time, on both my PC and Nokia handset. Currently I'm saving for an iPhone.

Well I called Dell and got my answer---They diagnose it over the phone if it can't be repaired that way then they ship a new monitor out and then ship the defective monitor back. This works for me. I'm going to call Apple now and demand a new monitor. If not I'll buy the Dell and sell the ACD on ebay or something.
