Nokia N73 *.jar files!

Hello! I am using my USB-cable to connect to the computer and it works fine.
I can install .sis files on my phone but when i try to install a .jar file then when the installation is almost done I got a error message that tells something like "Installation failed" or something like that.

Extremely weird, given that .sisx files do install properly according to your original post.
Double-check that "Software installation" is set to "All" in Options > Settings in the App.mgr on the phone.
If that's not enough, all I can suggest is:
- back up all your data to your PC
- reformat the memory card
- reformat the phone with *#7370#
- (you can also update the phone firmware to whatever is the latest version)
- check the "Software installation" setting again (in case the default is not "All")
- try reinstalling a .jar file now

  • Nokia n73 backup file

    sorry for my bad english.
i have been made a backup file long time ago cuz i couldn't copy the pictuers that i'v been captured.
so i took a backup file and now when i wanna backup it again it seems that the PC suit doesn't regocnize the file
but i'm sure that it is the correct file.
so what i'm gonna do? i had a very important files in the backup and i'm very worried about it.
    thanks alot,
    Alon gani
    P.S
i can upload the file if you want to see what is going out with it.

I understood now. However, if you made a backup before you have formatted your computer without any backup for your PC, all files are wiped off and nothing left on the harddisk. Normally, it's not easy to get them back by any means. Professional data recovery services in your area may be able to help you out.
Or if you still have that particular backup file in hand, try to put it back on the default location. It would be C:\Documents and Settings\{your user name}\Application Data\Nokia\ContentCopier (on Windows Xp). The backup file has .nbu extension.
PS. If it's Vista, ask again I will have a look for you later.Message Edited by delixis on 12-Nov-200704:05 AM

    Hi wahab999
In the case of mig33.jar if you have downloaded zip file to your PC, there are three versions included and you are presumably using the version below:
mig33 V 3.02 Beta (signed) has the complete feature set (with profiles and picture sharing on the mobile). Generally this is compatible with phones that are Java MIDP 2.0 and above. This version is signed as a trusted application and some mobile phones prefer this version.
Firstly go to Application Manager > Options > Settings and set "Online Certificate check" = OFF and Software Installation = ALL
I hope that changing Software installation = ALL may help you with this issue.

you can try to install it via pc suite.
.jar file usually come along with a .jad file which describe the installation info. If the phone support java application, the installation should start when the download is complete.

  • Maximum size for JAR files on Nokia 3120 Classic

I am trying to download and install a java app for a Nokia 3120 classic, but when installing I get an error message telling me that the file is too big at 5.7mb.
I can't find the maximum size of .jar files for this phone anywhere.
Can anyone let me know what this is and whether there is any way to get the app to work.
    Many thanks.
    Alan Watson

YES THERE IS A WAY!! I only got this information from someone else. Thanks for that person.
    Here are the steps:
    1. Download the jar file you want to install, to your computer. Now open My computer, and on the upper left corner you shall see a menu, click the "Tools" button and then click "Folder options..." A little window will appear. Click the "View" tab. On this window you need to find an option "Hide extentions for known file types" below "Advanced settings". Then unmark or uncheck the box.
    2. Now when you open my computer and go to the folder where you had downloaded the java file, the file name will read "(anyfilename).jar". HERE IS THE TRICK.
    3. Rename the last part of your file. Instead of .jar change it to .jpg so that it reads  "(anyfilename).jpg"
    4. Now copy the renamed file and paste it in your mobile's C: or Memory Card drive.
    5. Once you had pasted, rename the copied file back to what it was. i.e "(anyfilename).jar"
BASICALLY the phone limits a file with a ".jar" extention, you can fool it by renaming the extention to ".jpg" and then once the file is copied into the phones C:drive you can change the extention back to ".jar" by renaming it.
Share it. Hope it works for you! God bless...

does the time stamp with the ":" a part of your output file?
else use a replaceAll function in your mapping and replace the : with empty string then use the value in the variable substitution
Another option is use the normal BPM for 1: N message flow. The use a simple java mapping that will introduce a dynamic configuration and you can create the file name as you want. the java mapping will be used in the flow of messages from BPM to target system.

Hi,   I have downloaded battery accelerator using nokia suite ,but when i click on it , it asks me to go to nokiappwiz site reference. Then if i further clicks it is going......and going. When i browsed, i found jar and jad file for this application. Is there any solution, how to apply this app.

    Hi,
first, you must add the following two lines to Apache mime types:
    text/vnd.sun.j2me.app-descriptor jad
    application/java-archive           jar
second, you must specify the absolute address of your jar file in the MIDlet-Jar-URL which in the jad file, such as:
    MIDlet-Jar-URL: IP/game.jar

  • Connect a Nokia N73 to a PC in the year 2013?

    Hi!
I have a Nokia N73 on my desk which keeps rebooting at random intervals. This used to be my phone but I gave it away to my brother. He has been using it for about a year without any problems. He did drop it once on the pavemen and the plastic screen protector got a crack. But the screen itself was not broken and it still worked. This was a long time ago. So I don't think it's anyhow related. But I'm letting you know anyway. It was only lately that it started rebooting itself, as if it has a mind of its own.
Now, given that I am the previous owner of this phone I know its history. I know that the "power on power off" issue has been plaguing N73 users as early as 2007/2008, when this was only a 1 year old model. So this is not a new issue. But I have never experienced this issue with mine. I guess it was just a matter of time, a ticking bomb if you will, before the error manifests. Now I know what that looks like.
So I'm thinking this is most probably a software/firmware issue. So I want to try to reset this thing and watch what happens, which brings me to the main problem here. Since this is an old model it's hard to do anything with this thing due to Nokias continued lack of support for old models.
I installed Nokia Suite 3.8.48 on Windows 8.1. I then connected the phone with a USB cable. I chose "PC Suite" option on the phone. Then I got this stupid error.
    USB device not recognized
So I thought that it was missing some drivers and that the Nokia Suite did not install it for me, for whatever the reason. So I googled it and found the Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver (7.1.182.0). I disconnected the phone, installed the driver, connected the phone again, and still the same error came up. I tried repairing the driver installation and it did not help.
So what do I do now? Can I expect any help from Nokia with this issue? I am not asking for much. All I ask for is some bits of software so I can help myself. The least Nokia can do in my opinion is to host their previous software releases on their website. Yes, I mean the old PC Suite, Ovi Suite, Nokia Suite, etc. I don't ask them to continue supporting it and updating it if it's discontinued or deprecated software. And of course, since it's closed source it's impossible for other folks to continue the development. But the least they can do is host previous releases. I much rather download an EXE from Nokia than from some funny place like Banana Island or whatever...
And what about those software updates? When you google "nokia software update" the first thing you find is the main page for the various flavors of Nokia software suites where you click on the type of device you have (Symbian, Windows, et. al.) and it takes you to the download link for the EXE for Nokia Suite (in case of Symbian). But there are never any download links for the actual phone firmware/software/OS upgrades. The software suite grabs the appropriate file or files and installs it automatically. But what if you need to do this sh** manually? Or what if you want to keep a deposit of previously released phone software/firmware? Obviously Nokia won't host old phone software indefinitely.
And it's not like they do their best to make the new "PC SUITE, aka. OVI SUITE, aka NOKIA SUITE, aka "SOMETHING" SUITE, fully compatible with old phone models. So users with old Nokia products would have to use some of the old software tools, tools that Nokai no longer supports, nor hosts or links to.
What if you want to downgrade from a current version to a previous version? I'm not sure the automatic software update even still works on these old handsets (e.g. Nokia N73, et. al.) and what do you do in that case? What if you just need to reflash the phone with the same firmware that's already onboard? The answer is: you won't be able to! The software suite will only check for new versions, and if no new versions are found (obviously, since it's an old product for which there is no more development) it won't present any firmware/software at all to be flashed to the phone. Great!... just f****** brilliant! Or not...
The main reason why I need the Nokia Suite is obviously because I don't want to loose any data. I would have used it to create a full backup of the phone. So much for plan A, and I don't have a plan B. This totally sucks...
So what's with the "Nokia Suite" anyway? What happened to the "Ovi Suite"? Last time I held a Nokia phone in my hands it was called Ovi Suite and it had replaced the "PC Suite". I'm guessing you guys are having trouble deciding on how to name your software?... The Nokia Suite looks a lot like the Ovi Suite to me...
Can this thing do a full blown backup of the phone? The Nokia Suite? If not, I wont' waste my time with it. It doesn't allow me to click anywhere. I can't click on the View, Sync or Tools menus. So I can't explore its functionality. Not until I manage to connect a phone to it. This sucks... it reminds me of why I moved away from Nokia in the first place.

Nokia Suite 3.8.48 is not compatible with Windows 8.1
I installed Nokia Suite 3.8.48 on my old Windows Vista PC and it worked! So I conclude that the damn thing is not compatible with the latest re-incarnation of the Windows 8 system, namely 8.1. For whatever the reason it just didn't like my Windows 8.1 computer very much. It's clearly a compatibility issue on some level. It's a brand new computer by the way, it's a desktop PC, custom built, with a clean genuine install of WIndows 8.1. I installed it myself from the retail box (full version). No issues with it whatsoever, no software issues, BSOD issues... nothing... up until now. Installing the Nokia Suite software from the same installer file worked very well on my old Windows Vista computer. No need to install any additional drivers! It just worked! All device drivers installed properly when I connected the phone. And Microsoft wants to discontinue Vista in favor of Windows 8.1... I hate those muppets.
I know I've read that Nokia Suite 3.8.48 is Windows 8 compatible, I think I read it in the FAQ, but there were no specifics about whether that means 8.0 only or 8.0 AND 8.1. So it's a guesswork! And my guess is that it's compatible with Windows 8.0 but not with Windows 8.1. Even though I know that the changes between them are slim, if any. But don't blame me for that, blame Microsoft! I'm sure Microsoft wishes that Windows 8.0 never had happened! Just like they are wishing that Windows Vista never had happened! It shows, by their decision to drop Windows Vista support on most recent Microsoft software products. Windows 7 will follow the same fate. I'm sure they just wish they could pull the switch on every previous OS version, starting from XP, through Vista, 7 and Windows 8, and make everyone upgrade to the retarded Windows 8.1.
The worst thing is... Nokia has partnered with Microsoft... what good can possibly come out of that?... There's a rumor that Nokia is working on an Android phone, known as Normandy project, or AoL (Asha on Linux). Yeah right! That will probably happen in... oh well... maybe in 100 years or so. You're way too late to the Android party. Nokia shot itself in the head when they decided to push forward with the Symbian OS and later the MeeGo. Then they started flirting with Microsoft.
I would hate to work at a company that has no clear vision of the future and no strong leadership. I pity you Nokia. What happened to you?... you used to be cool. I guess it's what happens to every company that refuses to adapt to changes and doesn't do it quick enough. You either swim or you sink. Nokia decided to sink. Not only did they sink, they sunk to Microsofts level of incompetence... I guess in a way... you guys deserve each other.

  • How do I install a JAD & associated JAR file on a ...

    Hi all,
I have a Nokia 6288 which I would like to install a signed application in the form of a signed JAD and accompanying JAR file.
I need the JAD because it is a signed application, and I need the phone to recognise this because the application accesses user data from the memory card.
    I have tried:
    1. Using PC Suite. It does not recognise JAD files.
    2. Copying the signed JAD & the JAR file onto my memory card. The phone does not recognise JAD files. I can use the JAR file fine but it isn't fully functional.
    3. Installing the JAD file from a WAP service by pointing my phones web browser directly to the JAD file online. It downloads and installs, but again, fails to be fully functional.
So at the moment I am stuck as although I can install the JAR by itself, the application is then not signed, and will not work because it cannot access the memory card.
Basically, how would I install a signed application (JAD & JAR) onto my Series 40 handset?

Since my last post I have been discussing this issue with commercial application developers and have been experimenting with various applications.
Firstly, let's make the JAR/JAD situation absolutely clear. Some, but not all, applications unquestionably require the JAD file as a part of the installation process. If the application is a "signed" application then the security authorisation is contained within the JAD file, not the JAR file. The JAD file is created from the JAR file and contains security verification information that is separate from the JAR file and which enables the application to signed as kosher.
The Nokia PC Suite Application Installer does not need to show you the JAD file. The JAR file is sufficient. If you install the application from a folder on your PC that contains both the matching JAR and JAD files then Application Installer will correctly install the application from both the JAR and JAD files. If the folder ONLY contains the JAR file then it will only install from the JAR file. I have proved this.
So, if you cannot get the application to work then the reason is not the installation process. The reason is far more likely to be that you are trying to install the application on a branded handset rather than on a standard Nokia handset. Some service providers heavily modify the base standard software that Nokia installs on its vanilla handsets and these modifications may well include changes to security authorisation rules that will prevent many applications working on handsets that they sell.
I am in dispute with one such as we speak. I will not name them right now but if I am unable to achieve a satisfactory outcome then be assured I will let EVERYONE know. Thank God for YouTube.

  • ISync can't go along with Nokia N73

    Hi
I bought MacBook Pro last December! I love it so much! Yesterday, I bought a wonderful new handset Nokia N73. I learned the new update had put N73 into the iSync profile. When I add new device in iSync, everything is good. iSync show the name of the handset correctly. When I push the sync button, the connection was successfully. In the middle of the sync, iSync stop and pop out a log to tell me: your N73 handset have an accidental error, so the sync is fail. (I translate from Chinese!) Then I remove the device from iSync, then install device again, but fail still! I remove the bluetooth device again and again, and fail again and again! I try many times in different ways, but fail in one way: accidental error!
So, I guess, the handset might got problem. So, I start Parallel virtual machine in Windows XP. I download the PC software(Windows version) from Nokia website. I plug the USB line to MBP from N73. Amazingly, everything goes so well!
Could you help me to tell me what's happened? How can I fix the difficulty! It is the first time, I feel frustration about MBP. Your prompt reply is highly appreciated!

It's unbelievable...but that did not work either. I have tried it all sorts of ways, by creating a new calendar when asked, putting it under my mac email address (which ends up just churning and not doing anything at all), opening iCal first and importing, just doubleclicking the exported file...but the message on iSync continues to tell me it cannot find a "writable file". Any further thoughts on how to solve this?
