  • PSE 7 playing incorrect music media files

I Have PSE 7 on my PC. It was upgraded from PSE 5 some time ago in 2009 and I thought it was working ok.  However, because I have recently been using the Slide Show creation feature, I have found that there is no sound with the music.  In trying to find out why, I have also now discovered some very strange anomalies:-
    Slide Show Creator
    - If I browse to my music folder, and choose a track that came with Windows Vista AND it is a .wma format, it plays!
    - If I RIP my own track as an .mp3, I can browse to it and it will be seen on the slideshow editor bar but it won't play any sound.
    - If I RIP my own track as an .wma format,I can browse to it, open into the slideshow editor, see it on the editor bar BUT it won't play with any sound.
I understand that PSE normally does NOT recognise or play .wma files, but requires .mp3.  I have not intentionally changed any preferences that could explain this change of format, nor can I find anywhere in PSE that has any preference(s) concerning music format or anything else to do with music files.
Viewing Photos in Full Screen Mode (from the Organiser)
Because of the above problem with the slideshow creator, I have also used a feature of PSE not previously used by myself.  This has confirmed the problem with .mp3 files as it will NOT play these music files which come with PSE.  Once again, these are silent. However, if I use the browse button and go to choose one of the .wma tracks that comes with Windows Vista, PSE it DOES play the music!  This kind of replicates the problem above. Indeed, if I browse to one of my own .wma RIPs these do NOT play sound. (I have tried various different .wma files e.g. my RIPs and those of Windows tracks, and exactly the same applies)
All this is wierd and quite beyond me as to what the heck is going on and what to do to put PSE into a correct way of working.
    Please help me (thanks)
    Gill

The common problem appears to be with you rips. How are you creating these. Are they on your hard drive or burned to CD? But that still doesn’t explain the audio files that came with PSE.
Try a little experiment. Open the Organizer and press the F11 key for full screen. On the control bar (e.g. where the play, pause ,back and forward buttons are located) click on the tool icon to open the options dialog and make sure background music is not set to none. If it is set to none don’t click on Browse but on the drop down menu. See if you can select the first track “A taste of Sicily. mp3” Does it play?
N.B. in earlier versions of PSE the options dialog is found on the top control bar - it’s the dropdown menu to the right of the trash can.

  • Quicktime will play only seconds of file. Solutions?

Last night I downloaded an mpeg of about 250 mb. The file shows as being complete. When I open it and try to play it, it will play about the first 15 seconds, and that's it.
How do I get quicktime to play the whole file?
I've heard VLC is good, but is there a version for intel?
And will quicktime play WMV files, and if it won't, what will play them on my intel?
(It would be nice to watch a file or two on my shiny, expensive new toy!)
Hope these extra questions won't get me flamed, but I see them as stemming from my original QT question, so hopefully you'll forgive, lol.
    Thanks,

  • Need advice on a strong laptop for playing/ recording music / .wav files

I primarily use my laptop for music and enjoy making .wav files and hooking up to main stereo of house.  I've been experimenting with my daughter's laptop but I had to buy a sound card that attaches to the laptop.  Are there any good laptops out there with a good enough sound card available internally?  On my desktop I had a similar problem and needed to upgrade sound card to get the "what U hear" option.

Recording is a different story.  In general, almost no system will have good internal recording capability, even with an internal addon card.  Recording is best done with an external device.
You are confusing TOSLINK optical ouputs with digital coax outputs which are what they normally put on multi-media desktops to provide digital audio output though some older desktops did have TOSLINK ports. There was a period of time several years ago when you might find TOSLINK on a high-end multi-media notebook but digital coax was the standard in those days and that has obviously been replaced by HDMI which carries both digital audio and video signals.
In my experience, when it comes to laptops, HDMI will produce no sound. I too have seen a handful of laptops that support TOSLINK in the form of a 3.5mm connector, and even the standard sqare connector(not common, however).
If you aren't getting sound from your HDMI port that means your digital audio output is incorrectly configured, the digital audio signal is not in a format that your HDTV or display can recognize (simply uncheck the Dolby Digital, DTS, or WMA Pro boxes in the properties panel for your digital audio output), or the port on your display doesn't accept digital audio or is set to use analog audio in the settings. If you look in your TV's manual or dig up the manual online, the specs page will tell you what digital audio formats it accepts if any. A lot of older HDTVs with HDMI, as well as a lot of the first monitors with it, didn't accept digital audio over HDMI because they were using repurposed DVI chipsets which could be modified for use with HDMI by swapping out the DVI connector with an HDMI jack due to the fact that HDMI shares it's base video protocols with DVI. All it takes is fifteen seconds to figure it out if you know what you're doing.
Ya, a mere few hours after I made that post, a friend hooked up his newer laptop to my TV via HDMI, and sure enough...there was sound. Me stands corrected.

  • Playing only music not vocals

OK, this is SO bizarre. I have searched everywhere for help and can't find any. It's not my headphones as I've tried my headphones on other iPods AND I've tried my headphones with other iPods. I've called Apple Support and they say they can't help me SO this is my last resort. I've done the 5 Rs as well.
My iPod worked well for a few years. NOW:
The background music plays fine but the vocals are gone OR they're VERY faint. On iTunes, the music plays perfectly fine. I thought maybe I had hit a karaoke setting on my Mini (if there is one?) BUT that's not the case. Even reloading all my music didn't help.
    thanks for any assistance.

Try going to the equalizer (eq) under the settings menu on your iPod. Try the different equalizer settings and see if that makes a difference.

  • My Satellite A200 doesn't want to play almost all multimedia files

So, I have a problem with my Satellite A200. 2 weeks ago I bought it and since then i can't play any of my multimedia files.
It plays only music files, and that's all. I have downloaded many codec's packs such as: ACEMCP603PRO, VistaCodecs_v453, K-Lite Codec Pack full etc.
    But nothing works!!!
I'm desperate PLEASE, help me some one

    >It woul'd be easier to me to discuss in Russian
In this forum you can discuss only in English
    Regarding your issue;
To play the .vob files you need an dvd player software like WinDVD or PowerDVD.
Furthermore I would recommend installing the MPEG2 codec.

  • Nokia 101 music player play only first 20 songs

hi friends ... i have a problem...whenever i download songs in my memory card,my music player play only first 20 songs, and other songs show me format error.... please help me what can i do with this ????
Moderator's notes: Moved into it's own thread

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. I recently purchased Nokia 3555 and HS-49 headset to listen to music in stereo. However, I only get mono sound from the right. I called customer care services before I purchased HS-49 and they said it's compatible with Nokia 3555. Yes, I can listen to music, but it's not in stereo. I turned on "stereo widening effect," but it doesn't change anything.
Accoring to the catalog on the web, the phone has stereo bluetooth capability...So, I think it should also produce stereo sound through a wired stereo headset especially with HS-49 which is listed as a compatible headset.
I really appreciate if anybody can teach me how to listen to music in stereo on my Nokia 3555.
    Thanks

    N73 only plays MPEG-4
that seems like a rather limited view of the handset... it's an s60 device right? so it's a computer in your hands....
to the OT: i wouldn't recommend seeking an app to convert the files (transcode the video) on the phone itself: even if you could live with the SLOW performance, the power draw would kill your battery faster than you can say "charger?".
but you DO have options. i would start by looking at these three products (i wasn't able to immediately find a list of supported codecs, but codec support (like MPEG1, etc) can be different on each application, not a system-wide "only plays MPEG-4").

    3. TCPMP
    http://www.dotsis.com/mobile_phone/showthread.php?t=43733
DivX mobile is designed primarily to play divx video, clearly. divx is, technically, one implementation of the MPEG-4 standard, though it's different than h.264 (which the phone natively supports). i would expect it to work with a set of codecs, though i couldn't find a list of which ones.
SmartMovie has been around forever - it comes bundled with a PC converter program (which you clearly don't want to use) but don't let that scare you off -- the app can likely play a set of video codecs as well.
TCPMP is, apparently, still in an early stage of development. but the link i provided is to a forum where a user proclaims it to be excelent and capable of playing "mpg" videos - however this means something different to everyone who reads it (and likely means nothing at all to anyone truly familiar with the process of en/de-coding video streams).
Those are three options to get you started. i might suggest Skyfire as a fourth, though it's not actually a video player, but a web-browser (arguably one could call it just the user interface of a web-browser). with skyfire you can surf to sites like [http://www.hulu.com] and watch streaming TV shows and movies. hulu is a legitimate online video source, in case anyone is wondering. skyfire will play pretty much any streaming video content on the web. the beta release has just been opened up to public consumption (only for users in the USA). try it at http://skyfire.com (i am NOT financially connected to skyfire).

  • How do i make it so iTunes plays the music files from where i have chosen to store them?

how do i make it so iTunes plays the music files from where i have chosen to store them as opposed to it scattering copies of my files into a myriad different folders based on the albums they came from when i'm not even interested in keeping whole albums?
I recently converted myself to mac after having been a windows formatted person since the beginning of time. I use last.fm and the client scrobbler only supports iTunes on the mac (scobbling since Nov 06 and i'm now heavily dependant upon it as a means of discovering new music) - if you don't know what that means then take it for granted i have no option other than to use iTunes as my media player whn using the mac. And almost immediately upon using iTunes i was filled with horror.
My tale of woe as follows: I copy all my mp3 files to folder X on my new mac. I copy my simple playlist in to that same folder X. The simple playlist simply lists all the files in folder X in the order i want to hear them in... simple right? And what happens the moment i start playing my simple list? Well you probably all ready know; itunes throws copies of all those files in to the air, scatters them to the four winds so each of them fall into a little folder of their own representing the album they might once have come from. I don't keep whole albums. For me the 'album experience' is a ruse to trick one into listening to weaker material. I only keep the concentrated goodness. I only put up with albums in a previous lifetime because in the days of vinyl i had no other choice apart from spending hours compiling mix tapes. Now i am liberated from these restrictions and have been for the 15 or so years i've been using a computer to listen to music. Until along comes iTunes forcing me backwards in time, frog marching me back into the past.
That simple list i mentioned is my one and only playlist. This single playlist has been evolving for 15 years as tracks are added and removed and their position in the list changes because that song sounds amazing when heard after that other song whereas hearing this song after that song would be like pouring custard over your sausages (for me shuffling is an abomination). And so here is how i've managed this list and managed synchronization of said list and listed files with my mp3 player (currently a Zen).
Adding a new file: After deciding that song is a keeper i will copy it into that simple folder that holds all my music and drop it in to a position on the list i deem most suited for it. Incidentally over this entire 15 year (i'm pretty sure it's been around that long) my media player has been winamp but for the reason previously mentioned i am unable to use winamp in mac world.
Removing a file: fortunately winamp has an option to simultaneously remove a file from the list and the hard drive. And naturally so because after all if i no longer like a song then i want it expunged completely from life or at least from my hard drive and playlist. In the brave new world of iTunes i have to remove from the list there then delete the file from where iTunes copied it from and then the place iTunes copied it to.
Editing the list: drag an item in the list to it's preferred location and select to save it as i would for any other file using any other application... well desktop type application as opposed to one that uses a database as its primary means of storage.
Syncing with the mp3 player: copy drag drop playlist file from the simple folder on the hard drive to the simple folder on the mp3 player as i would for any other file. And then also copy drag drop the most recently created files from simple folder on hard drive to simple folder on player after having ordered them by creation date so as to make it easier to select the most recently created. After a while the mp3 player will fill up with the files no longer on the list so i will delete all files from player then re-copy all flies from simple folder on hard drive to simple folder on mp3 player.
I do not make changes to the list on the mp3 player so synchronization needs only to go one way: from laptop to player.
So all very simple. Apart from editing the positions of files in the list everything is managed by copy drag dropping and deleting files using windows explorer.
But i'm in a mac and circumstances have forced me in to the corner of using iTunes. And this whole iTunes situation is terrifying for me as over the years i've heard horror stories about it deleting all of someone's music files. Perhaps this may have been by using the software incorrectly but even so, the very fact that it appears possible for this to happen simply by using the software incorrectly and the fact that it happens with some degree of frequency given the number of reports of this happening that i have heard of over the years on music discussion forums fills me with dread that i have to now use this software. And given the software's blatant disregard for the user's choice as to where to store his/her files it's no surprise that this happens. The software is pointlessly doing dangerous things with my data. Please make it stop.
Please can i just at the very least make iTunes play the music from the folder i have chosen to put my files in and not copy those files here there and everywhere without my say so? Thankyou.

option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Thanks for the support.

  • 2G Shuffle plays only some of the music loaded on it

As the subject says, when I download songs (either by Autofill or dragging from an iTunes playlist), all the songs appear to be moved to my 2G Shuffle. However, when I try to play them, either in random or straight-through, only about 1 in 4 will actually play. Nevertheless, they continue to appear on the shuffle when I reconnect to iTunes. I have attempted restoring multiple times, and the same thing keeps happening. Also, the selection of songs that it will play is consistent. For instance, here in the summary for one of the songs that will play:
    Kind: AAC Audio file
    Size: 7 MB
    Bit Rate: 256 kpbs
    Sample Rate: 44.100 kHz
    Date Modified: 12/27/06 12:01 PM
    Play Count: 1
    Last Played: 1/6/07 4:34 PM
    Volume: -10.6 dB
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Channels: Stereo
Encoded with: iTunes v7.0.2, Quicktime 7.1.3
Here is one that will not:
    Kind: AAC audio file
    Size: 4.4 MB
    Bit Rate: 128 kpbs
    Sample Rate: 44.100 kHz
    Date Modified: 12/27/06 11:59 AM
    Play Count: 0
    Last Played: Not available.
    Volume: -12.7 dB
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Channels: Stereo
Encoded with: iTunes v.6.0.4, Quicktime 7.0.4
Has anyone seen this before or have any clue how to fix it? Thank you in advance.

How do you have your Shuffle set up to sync music?

  • Nokia 101 is not playing half my MP3 files

Bought a new Nokia 101 couple days ago.
Installed an SD card with several MP3 files (mostly audio books, some music). All these files play without a hitch on all devices I'v tried them on - right from bare basic phones, smartphones to comps.
Bit I find that a approx half of them won't play on the Nokia 101!. Error message displayed - "File format not supported. Please select another song".
Discovered that this phone has a ridiculous limitation of not being able to play MP3 files of bitrate lower than 32 kbps. So checked all the files and after eleminating the < 32 kbps files, it is still not playing about half the files that are well above 32 kbps. The other half or is, it plays well. So its not like the MP3 player is totally broken.
What could be the issue? Please help, as I need the phone to play these files if it is to be of any use to me.
Quite disappointed with Nokia, as no other phone or player has such issues with playing anything.

@Srikant - Are you sure? Nokia Care told me on phone that it can be done; and asked me to bring the phone. My concern is that I currently don't have the time for it, and was hoping to find some solution here. Nothing is worse than having to take the time and effort for taking a brand new product for service.
I don't see a PC interface port on the 101 like the one on my 1112. But I don't know if there is one inside the cover or something... haven't checked.
While we would all like to use MP3s of high bitrates, its not always a choice we can make. I have some files of <32 kbps, and I now know this amazing phone can't play them. But I really don't understand why it isn't playing half my files that are in the whereabouts of 50 kbps. Its not possible to get these files at originally higher bitrates. I guess I could try to encode these files at higher bitrates, but thats not going to increase their quality! Besides, these are audio books and no music, so the files at existing bitrate are fairly good. And really, why should I be spending time in doing all this, when every other phone, including very basic ones can play these files on the same SD card without a hitch?
I mainly bought this phone as a secondary phone for some voice calling and for its MP3 player. It fails badly at both jobs as its single speaker design makes any privacy on calls impossble - everyone around can hear the opposite person loudly. And as an MP3 player it fails for the reason above, for having a barely ok speaker (not quite good enough even for audio books) and for being so bare bones as to not even have a seek option, which is a REALLY bad thing when you are listening to audio books.
Even no-name Chinese phones can do a better job.

What is dropping I guess is the question? Is it wireless? Is it your WAN connection? You need to identify where the problem is.
To do that you need to try a few things.
    1. If you use wireless then bypass it and use ethernet if that is possible.. even just drag things around so you can test if ethernet fixes it. If so and wireless is in fact the problem.. then you can do a few things.
    2. Wireless issues with the 7.6.4 firmware are common. Did you upgrade about the time the problems started? I am afraid the bad news is, downgrading is not like in the past where it fixed things.. 7.6.4 seems to have some permanent effect on the TC and it is never quite the same again. How this is even possible I have yet to determine.
The usual fix is factory reset.
Set wireless with short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Different name for 5ghz.
Make sure security is WPA Personal  with pure alphanumeric password of 8-20 characters.. unless you are more paranoid.
Fix the wireless channels and test in order. 11, 8, 6, 1
And for 5ghz try the lowest channel, 36 and then a high one, around 150.
    3. No improvement factory reset again.. downgrade to 7.6.1 or even 7.5.2 if it is an older Gen4 .. at 18months it might be old enough.. no harm trying. Factory reset again after the downgrade to see if we can get rid of the memory effect.. then try the above steps again.
No luck.. whatever the upgrade did it did permanently.. no fix is available until Apple pushes out a new firmware to fix what they did in the last one. Buy a different wireless router for now and use the TC in bridge just for TM backups.

  • Problems with Camera on Nokia n73 music edition

I have a nokia n73 music edition and this is the issue
When I slide down bac cover to open camera sometimes the I don't get image from back camera at all but only from front.
Another this is that today I opened the camera and with the shouter I couldn't take pictures.
I pressed it but nothing occured.
I tried to update the software but no luck because it says that phone has newer software.
I also when I go to the Camera through the main menu then it shows the video of front camera

Format your memory card and try again. Remember to backup all your stuff in the memory card before formatting.
If you still have problems, then try these options one by one:
    1. Turn off your phone and leave your battery out for 5-10min. Then, put them back in and turn on the phone.
    2. Restore factory settings: type *#7780# at the standby screen. Enter 12345 for the security code or the one you've changed it to.
Before you try the next two steps, backup your phone memory using PC Suite.
    3. Soft reset: type *#7370#. Enter the security code when prompted
    4. Hard reset (Last resort, nothing else works): Turn off your phone, press and hold down these keys: 3, * and the call (Green) button. Turn on your phone without releasing them. Leave the keys only after you see the Nokia logo on the screen.
If none of these work, then take it to the nearest Nokia Care Point.
PS: There's no use posting more than once, under irrelevant threads. It'll only delay help
    Cheers,
