Nokia N8 and strange battery low notifications

I have strange experience with my Nokia N8 notifications about low battery. Other Nokia phones sending lots of "beep's" when battery level is low - my N8 sends only one (maybe 2, but this last one is before phone turning off). First one with asking, that i will turn on power safe mode and 2nd (whatever i choose power saveing mode or not) is the last one "Battey empty. Please charge" (or something similar.
I think this is very strange and **bleep** off behavior. Any1 had like me? Is any fix for this issue?
Thanks from advance for usefull tips and sorry, because my English is very weak.

I agreed with that, but what if i don't know, that my phone have battery low, because i left it on table or other place in house and i don't hear first warning? Phone will discharge battery for good and turn off itself. I have few situations, when i don't hear this first (and only) warning and i was suprised at the morning, when i saw my phone is turned off or in the middle of the day, when someone tells me, that he can't call in to me (because phone died). Other situation when i must use my phone when i have 10% of battery power, after switching to power safe mode (like quick check when i have bus on Internet, quick call to somebody or what is WORSE: when i write long text in QuickOffice and phone shows me middle finger...
Other Nokia's having LiON batteries too and they have normal notifications. Some thing is really messed up here and it must be fixed. I feel like HTC HD2 user (i was HD2 user), because this phone do exactly the same "trick"...

I am so cross because iOS 8.1 installed yesterday has ruined my iPad 2! There are now no keyboard, message or app sounds, performance is slow, juddery and strange, the battery is draining fast and the iPad no longer security locks when put to sleep.  I have checked all the settings, done a number of resets and really wish I hadn't bothered and stayed with iOS 7 when it all worked like a dream.  I thought that by waiting until 8.1, teething problems would have been fixed and I am just horrified that there is no going back!  I am not the only iPad owner that has this set of problems so why didn't you warn us Apple!  What are you going to do to help us?  I do not want to be forced into buying a newer version of iPad because you broke this one!

In spite of the fact that you said you checked the settings, I still believe that you have system sounds muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

AS for your other issues, have you done any other troubleshooting like resetting your iPad, resetting all settings or doing a complete factory reset?

  • Can I turn off mouse battery low notification

I use rechargeable batteries in my Magic Mouse and I use to have no problems but since upgrading (from 10.6.8 to 10.10) I keep getting notifications on screen that my battery is low even if I just charged them. Now, I know it's due to the voltage difference in rechargeables but I would like to just turn off that little pop up that keeps popping up on screen I click on it to hide it but it just keeps coming back and it's annoying.
What's funny is the battery is fully charged and the menu says 0% battery and has said that through 2 weeks of heavy use. If I swap them out for newly charged batteries it still says the batteries are at 0%.

Yes - have checked them all and there's nothing to check or uncheck. This is one of those little things that's annoying and turns out it annoys lots of people given the number of requests for solutions in this forum and non-Apple forums. Apparently this issue has become worse with each OS upgrade. I have tested OS identified problem batteries and found plenty of charge. Besides the interval between when the notifications start and when the batteries fail is quite long.
Many suggestions including Terminal scripts suggest simply turning off Notifications completely but that means loss of something useful.
What is wanted is to allow the notification re declining trackpad, mouse, keyboard battery power is to show itself, let it be clicked close, and to stop popping up all the time.
I did go to a Genius Bar for help (bit hard to demonstrate without the iMac being there) and the Genius didn't think there was such a problem. Having had Geniuses give themselves away in never looking at Apple Support Forums, I came prepared with links to this issue raised on this and other posts. Amazed he decided that maybe there is a problem/issue, could not find anyone to suggest a solution, but suggested I put in a feedback form. I think Apple people look at these even less than they look at the Support Forums, and so that is why I was looking to the Apple User community for a solution.

  • Nokia N8 and 808 - Battery and Symbian thoughts

    Hi!
I spent a lot of time lately reading about 808. While it seems fantastic at first, it has the same battery as Nokia N8 while having bigger screen and being more chunky overall. I understand if you want to use smartphone you have to realize it eats battery and mostly will last you for a full days usage. Well, I wish!
I own N8 more than a year, recently I switched everything to offline, lowest brightness and so on, to save battery. It helps quite a lot in standby mode, but when I'm using it it's no good:
    - browsing web - less than 3 hours on 3G (I was once in a bus from Kilkenny to Dublin, battery was drained before reaching destination),
    - reading e-book - around 2 hours (I was in a park lately, reading Steve Jobs biography and was surprised how fast the battery drained).
I wouldn't call it even heavy usage, just one app running, no multitasking. Since Nokia 808 has bigger energy consumption, I expect it to have worse battery life. That's why I'm thinking about switching to Samsung or Apple. There aren't any good or new apps for Symbian like there are on Android or iOS. I just wish we could have all in one device - perfect compact camera, phone, good battery and game console. But that's wishful thinking.
Also what I like about N8 - it has Sim Card and Memory Card slots beside each other on the side, extremely easy to access, the best I've seen. Now 808 has them all hidden behind the cover under the battery. If somebody is using phone as external hard drive, it's easy to remove Micro SD and copy files to a laptop via SD Card adapter. Pitty they revamped design so much it doesn't have such a good solution.

    @graceboy9
Please have a look at some information about common problems and techniques of modern digital photography. You will find, that image stacking is used for two main reasons: increase DOF (depth of field) and NR (noise reduction).
The standard approach for NR is to take more than 1 photo of the same scenery and combine these (lets say 7 images). As digital noise is kinda random, chances are good, that only some of the 7 images have a noise pixel at a given point, where the other images show the true color/brightness.
Taking several images in a row is easy if you have a static scene with no moving objects and the same lighting conditions etc. - but it's very hard if not impossible to use it for everyday shots of people, sports etc. - and this is, what a camera handy will do: everyday photography. So if you can't take 7*5mp images in a row fast enough (like in a 1/250s, all together), what else can you do?
Nokia's approach is, to take one 35mp image and split it in 7 "grid-images" holding 5mp of data each. THIS can be done in 1/250s. Chances are, that only a few "neighbor" pixels will be noisy and the others show the true color/brightness. Combine the 7 "grid-images" and you get an image with less noise and more accurate color information.
So YOU don't have to pay for a 41mp sensor. Choose another phone with a 5mp sensor and blame it for taking noisy images. However, IF image quality is important for you, then Nokias approach might be a reason to consider buying the 808.
As for your argument, that images and videos only have to be as big as the output device (i.e. the screen of the mobile phone): well, that depends. IF you only want to show images/video on the phone, you are right. If you plan on printing your photos or postprocess them and show these and the videos on a TV screen, you are wrong.
Just give it a thought: why do dSLR cameras take high resolution images bigger than their rather small monitor on the back can show?
As for having a download manager or not in Symbian... I don't need one for my TV, fridge, car or other devices that have their own special purposes, including my dSLR camera, my phone and my car GPS navigation device. IF you need a mobile phone for heavy internet usage, the 808 might not be the one for you - it's that easy. To my mind it's a good ide to do things right and not only so-so. If the 808 can do the phone/navigation/photo job all in one device, what's wrong with it?
As for having my mobile phone flying around and taking photos automatically... I like that idea. Why don't you launch a company to build and sell such devices? Maybe as add-ons to existing mobile phones?
    Have a nice weekend.

  • What do I do if a message comes up and says battery low on my desktop?

I turned on my desktop today and a message came up and told me that the battery was low. The date and time are really off. My dad suggested packing it up and taking it to the Apple store with me but I don't want to do that. I checked to see if geek squad could fix it but they want $300 just to look at it. Any suggestions?

It is a very small battery inside which keeps settings, your clock, etc. going. They usually last 3 - 5 years and I don't believe they are user replaceable. I would make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar and have them do it.

  • Strange Battery and Startup goings on!

    Hi
Ive got an old G4 667mhz laptop running 10.3.9. Recently Ive been experiencing some strange battery behaviour. I seem to get low battery warnings even though the % shows its above 50%. The most noticeable glitch is that I'm often unable to boot up the laptop without it being plugged into the mains - unless the battery has been recently charged.
I'm guessing (hoping) its a battery problem - although I guess buying a new battery will probably be the same cost as the whole machine
    many thanks for your help
and a happy new year to you all!

The battery level indicator can get out of whack sometimes I have heard, this I was told happens more if you don't run the battery charge down all the way and just run to half and recharge, run to half and recharge.
Try running the battery all the way down and charging it up a few times. Sometimes it helps things.
That said its possible that your battery is just getting into its latter days and is nearing the end of its service life. (If this becomes the case remember to properly dispose of the battery when its done please)
Some after-market batteries will also give you longer running times then the Apple ones now.
Also this is the G4 PowerMac forum you will probably get more PowerBook related help in the Power Book Forum

  • Nokia Lumia 800. Battery and start up problems

    Hi there,
I have been having quite a lot of problems with my nokia lumia 800.
Firstly: When the battery dies it takes a long time to get it charged back up. I have tried cycling the charger power between the laptop and power outlet. I have to play around with the power supply for a long time before the unit actually starts charging. And even then when it has just enough charge, it tries to start up but seems to run out of power half way through the start up and I end up back playing with the charging again.
It seems that there is no battery protection in the phone and the battery can completely discharge. Which would account for the problem with getting it to charge back up.
Secondly: Yesterday the phone went dead for no reason. It had about a quarter charge in the battery. I tried to turn it back on but nothing. I tried charging it and nothing.
Again after cycling the power many times between the power outlet and the laptop, I got some response. It vibrated and displayed the low battery screen. So I thought ok, it's charging. But no.
Once it has enough battery it tries to start up and then freezes on the provider logo and does not go any further. The screen stays like this. Illuminated and with the logo.
I have tried reseting the unit by holding the power button down for 10seconds and it vibrates and tries to start up again. But again freezes.
I have noticed that when I leave it charging, the unit gets quite warm. But no matter what I do the startup proceedure stops on the provider logo and no more.
I tried starting it with the charger connected and it just seems to be powering the screen because when I unplug it the unit goes dead again within a matter of minutes.
I am at a total loss as to what happened to my phone.
    Can someone help please?

From the sound of it I think it needs a Nokia Care Point. Could be faulty battery or faulty charging.  You can locate your nearest care point using the link below

    Hello s0ha1b
If all you get is the Apple logo and it powering off, then the next step is to put your iPhone into recovery mode and then use iTunes to restore it. If you have a back up, then you can put that on there to once the restore is complete.
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • I recent bought a classic 5th 30gb. Trying charge its battery over 12hrs and still 'very low battery' with white screen randomly showing this webpage.

I recently bought a classic 5th 30gb with 'very low battery'. After 12hrs charging its still same and randomly shows a white screen with this website. Does the battery need replaced or something else is wrong?

What do you see on the iPod screen, when you plug in to the PC?
    My suggestions,
Charge only using High Power USB2.0 port at the back of your PC and not the low power USB 1.1 port at the front of the PC.
Change the USB cable, (maybe it is broken)
    Try a wall charger.
    Have a nice day!

  • My 20gb ipod never charges and now only shows the battery low sign

Hey, I really need help with this. I bought this ipod quite a while ago, but it was working fine till recently. My ipod does not charge when connected thru a power source or even the computer. And now the battery has died, so it wont even come on, it just shows me the battery low warning. Is there anyway I can restore it??

Hi, guys. If you haven't got the issue solved yet, I suggest taking/sending you ipod in to Apple. We had a 20GB U2 ipod that gave us this problem, too. We had to take it in to an Apple store and have them replace it (at no charge to us). We are now on our second 20GB U2 ipod, and it has started doing the same thing. Not good at all...

Depends on how long you have had your iPod. Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod. Or take your iPod Nano to your local Apple Store or an AASP.

  • Nokia 5800xm, very bad battery backup

    hi all,
i have just bought Nokia 5800 XM, a week back. I am facing a very bad experience with this new phone since its giving a poor battery backup. The battery is not lasting even a day. I charge it fully in night and it starts getting down next day evening.
I am not using any application, neither any surfing. My talktime in a day is around 3 hrs max and listen to music max 1 hr.
Please suggest any workarounds, is this a generic problem all people are facing with this handset.
Should i contact nokia for replacing it?

First, make sure you don't have any open applications in the background. Turn off bluetooth, Wi-Fi. Reduce the screen brightness to the minimum required for legibility. Reduce the level of haptic feedback. Make sure there is a good network coverage. Update the firmware to the latest version...
If these are done, then take a look at the battery: use the phone until the battery goes dead, or until you see the Battery Low message a couple of times. Then, charge the batter to 100%, uninterrupted. Now, repeat it 2-3 times. After that, use the phone like you normally do. Charge it as and when you want.
If you are comparing the performance with what is there in the spec-sheet, please be informed that what you see in the specs are the ideal values - under "standard test conditions". In practical life, you should expect considerable differences. 3 hours of calls and 1 hour of music does mean a good deal of strain on the battery. If the music is thru loudspeakers, it adds to it.
    Cheers,
