Nokia N8 HDMI Question

i plugged my fone in to my hdtv and when ever the wire moves the fone will loose its hdmi connection. is this a problem with the HDMI port on my fone?

It does seem that plug needs to be inserted into HDMI socket firmly as here:

I just updated to Belle and have a question.
If WI-FI is on does it mean it always scanning for available networks and drains battery?
There was a setting in Anna to disable scanning, but Wlan still would work if any app using it.

The only reason that I can think of is that your connection priorities are incorrectly set.
Use Menu>Settings>Connectivity>Settings>Network Destinations>Internet. Then long press on your wifi connection and choose Change Priority, and then select the first connection in the list.

  • Nokia 770 tablet questions

Got mine today along with thousands of others as Expansys selling them by the bucketload!! Two problems:-
    i) Bluetooth - cannot get it to see my Orange SPV E650 - is the phone too new? Phone no see tablet/tablet no see phone.
ii) How do the rubber supports in the box fit and hold the tablet securely? Otherwise they make good nose and ear picks!
Expect lots of questions from lots of people - got to get in quick!
    Doug

I'd like to use the 770 as a bridge from my wifi router to my sound system to stream internet radio (Live365.com, music.aol.com, etc.)
    1) Can the headphone output jack of the 770 be connected to the aux input of my amplifier? I already do this with an external CD player with no problems.
    2) Since it will be left "on" for hours at a time, is there an external power supply that could be substituted for the battery when the 770 is used in this mode?
3)If there isn't one available, can the battery charger be left connected during operation? Would this harm the unit or reduce the life of the battery?
    4) If I have a spare battery, can it be recharged when not installed in the 770?
    5) As a VOIP device, does the 770 have a external microphone input jack (either monaural or stereo), similar to the headphone output jack? This would allow "hands free" use.
    6) If some of the above functions/options are not possible nor available on the existing model, is Nokia considering including them as product improvements?
The other features of the product make it much more interesting to me than a simple wireless audio device, even if it costs more.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

"on my Nokia n8 I use to profiles
    -Autimatic
    -User defined
The only difference is the Sharpness
    -Autimatic = Normal
    -User defined = Hard
My question is there any difference between them? I am no photography but I do enjoy taking photos with my N8 and when I do I want the best quality I can get so I use User defined with Sharpness at Hard but to me it looks the same as Normal  is there a difference?

Hey ethanobama, Welcome to the Nokia Forum!
User defined is similar to shooting Manual mode, You can save shooting presets which you have configured yourself.
Sharpness merely creates more definition between points of contrast (mainly edges) and makes the contrast alot higher, as a result it makes things like hair and pores in the skin stand out more when high.
For example when taking a photo of a person in a forest, with high sharpness there will be a more defined edge between the persons body and the forest in the background but the effect can be very minor.
I hope this clears up any confusion you may have previously had.

  • Nokia E71 small Questions

I've been using my E71 for 6 months but it has left me with a few small questions.
1.) The 2.5 audio port produces awful hissing when paired up with a pair of Sennheiser in-ear headphones (the noise can be heard on the bundled nokia headphones, just not as loud). This hiss can also be heard when navigating the menu system via the menu sounds. Is this typical or does the 2.5mm output supposed to produce clear sound?
2.) The front audio speaker tends to develop a echo/hollow sound when talking to people or listening to music. I must tap the front speaker to rid the issue. This is something that seems to come and go.
    3. ) I'll be taking my phone to Poland and wanted to know if there's a way to change the SMS language/dictionary from English to Polish. I'd like my words to be corrected and autotyped in Polish.
If that is possible, is there then a hotkey for such an action to be able to swap between languages?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • P43 C51 Windows 7 x86 SPDIF HDMI question

With the above board, I have an Asus 9500GT (with HDMI) and everything is working perfect.
If I want to output HD video over the HDMI from the 9500GT to my 720P LCD television, I only get sound if I first go to 'Sound' in Control Panel and make 'Digital Audio S/PDIF' my default device. When I'm done and want to switch back to my PC and listen to MP3s or something, I have to set 'Speakers' as my default device.
I guess there's no way to automatically set things so that if I'm displaying video over HDMI onto my LCD tv, the default sound device will automatically switch to Digital Audio is there?
If this is a silly question (sounds like it might be) I'm sorry......... it's 11:45pm and I'm super tired so maybe my brain isn't working 100%?

Quote from: Henry on 20-March-10, 08:56:17
I suppose we'll have to wait till he gets home and tries that Skype thing he mentioned.
Good news..... I set my default playback device to 'Speakers' in the Sound applet in Control Panel. Then, I launched Skype and configured it to use 'Digital Audio'. Next, I started an MP3 playing.
The MP3 was coming out of my normal speakers via WMP and I slid Skype over to the 2nd display (my 720P LCD tv) and all Skype audio was on the TV speakers! (audio over HDMI)
So it appears that if an application can be configured to output to SPDIF, you can leave 'Speakers' as your default sound output device in the Control Panel and whatever app can be configured to use SPDIF will output it's sound over HDMI to your TV.

  • Nokia 95 8gb, questions for the brain boxes

Just received my new Nokia today, seems like a great phone but got a few questions.
I have got the spiderman 3 film with it already but is there anywhere where i can get cheap or free films from online?
Similar to the last question, can you get free/cheap music off the internet and transfer it too your phone?
I noticed that the phone searches for WLAN, I know there are some spots in the city where you can connect to these wirless networks for free. Could I connect my phone to these networks without vodafone charging me?
    Thanks a million

Nowhere offers a a movie download service for nokia phones yet. It's a big gap in the market that i'm surprised hasn't been filled yet.
Many sites offer cheap music now, you have one of these services in your phones music menu, the nokia music store. You can find slightly cheaper services by searching google. If you are a voda customer check this out: www.vodafonemusic.co.uk/products/musicstation.cfm
A free wireless hotspot is exactly that, free. If you try to connect to a paid for hotspot like those run by the cloud you will be asked to log in and pay. It can never take money from you without your knowledge or direct from your phone bill.

I have a brand new emty memory card, does the update install the standart contents like sounds and programs that comes with the standart 64MB memory card?
    reggards.

If your phone was bought from Vodafone PT directly, then they should not be any language issues.
The updater does not update the memory card as far as I am aware.

  • Hard resetting a nokia 1020, some questions, mainl...

    Hi,
im having problems with my Nokia 1020, it hasn't got space, i remove apps and games and in one or two days the problem arises again, i don't know if i have two much photos and/or if it is a problem with bad-behaved apps with banners.
Anyway, i want to hardreset it.
    I've already read:
    http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/settings-and-personalization/reset-my-phone
    and:
    http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/settings-and-personalization/back-up-my-stuff
It seems pretty stray forward... but i would like to ask if i create a backup, during restore i have the option to carefully select what is restored?
Is the main interface backed up, with all the links?
Questions about 1020 photos and onedrive:
    - how do the photo files work on 1020? Does my onedrive account have both the 34 and the 5 mb version?
(- if i want to create a 5mb version of a 34mb, has the phone software the ability to do that?)
    - does onedrive account has all the files that my 1020 has? Because my 1020 has 17gb of photos, and my onedrive\images folder has 5gb...
    - admiting that it has a full backup of photos, can i delete them on the phone without deleting them from onedrive.com / my PC's onedrive folder?
    - is there a simple way to compare photos over the phone and on PC or onedrive.com?
I ask this because in my computer (and online) i have organized then with folders, and videos that exist appear near them, but in my phone i can only see the photos organized by date - so it seems difficult to confirm that they are both equal.
    Thanks and regards

    Hi @Lrmmf_ ,
If in your shoes I would secure a backup through USB to a PC before proceeding - not to the OneDrive folder on the PC - but somewhere else on the hard drive for safe keeping. There are too many variables regarding the settings on the phone used while taking the pictures and recording videos. Altering the settings regarding backup resolution only works for pictures and videos recorded after altering the setting. Clearly not everything is backed up to OneDrive when you have 12GB more on the phone than in the cloud, most likely the full resolution images are missing.
The restore after a factory reset does not restore pictures and videos to the phone. Those already uploaded are safe in the cloud and can be accessed via the OneDrive app on the phone. Lumia Black required a lot of work after a restore and i.e. games progress were not backed up. This has changed with Lumia Cyan, but there will still be some manual work after a factory reset and restore.
I suggest spend a rainy day to first backup all media files to the PC, then still via USB delete the big resolution files and media files not needed on the phone. Then think again if the hard reset is needed at all? - There is now a Files manager by Microsoft in the store for Windows Phone, it is just easier to perform these tasks on a PC via USB.
Duplicates are better than missing files! I still have a lot of clean-up waiting to bring my local backups in sync with OneDrive, maybe it will never happen.

  • Nokia E6 White question and one little question

    Hi,
I am planning on buying the Nokia E6 in white, but I am really worried about the fact whether the keypad or the cover of the memory card and USB slot will get dirty. (yellowish)
And my second question: The Nokia E6 is provided with a leather case in some countries, but I am about to buy one E6 and I think it's not provided here in the Netherlands. I wanted to know if anyone knows the exact model number of the leather case provided in the box, so I can buy it separately.
    Thanks!

Hi, I have bought the white E6 from the Netherlands, and you're right - there is no case (and no memory card).
The USB slot shouldn't get too dirty that easily since it is not white, but silver (same as the back cover).
Haven't had the handset long enough to know if the keys get dirty.  The finish on the keys is a matt white (not glossy/shiny).
One downside of the white (and possibly silver) is that when you set the backlighting on the phone to a low level (to save more power), it is quite difficult to the the keys.  I have had to set the backlight to at least medium so that the light is bright enough against the white keypad.
I must the colours offered are rather boring (white/silver/black) but presumably it is because it is sold as a business phone.

  • Nokia n96 navigation question

Hello, my nokia I n96. Question: is there some possibility to use free my navigation only using the satellites without wi-fi or some other internet connection. and please tell me if there is some opportunity for using only satellites what other programs I have to install instead of ovi maps? Thank you!

As far as I know, free navigation is not available on your N96, well it isn't available on mine anyway. You need to purchase a license for a nominal fee. Without the license you can still use it to map and track your location on the map.
With regards to network data charges when using Ovi Maps, you should disable all Positioning methods apart from Integrated GPS and you need to set Ovi Maps to Offline. With this setting you will also be able to use other applications which use GPS such as Sports Tracker without inccuring charges. However, please note that certain GPS applications such as Google Maps cannot be used without data connection.

  • Nokia 500 GPS questions/troubles with: Contacts, F...

So... I have owned my 500 now since Christmas (I received the 500 as a gift from my father-in-law). Overall, for my first GPS device, I really enjoy all the features... But, I'm having quite a few troubles and hoped that some expert users or Nokia Support folks might be able to help.
    1) It took me forever, but I found a program to sync my Treo 700wx from Verizon to the Nokia 500. When I first tried syncing my phone it was recognized just fine but then only downloaded my 5 favorite (or quick dial) contacts from the Windows Mobile homepage. Then I did some looking on the internet and found a program from a company called JETware Mobile Software at www.jetwaremobile.com. The first time I used this software (the trial version only) I suceeded in syncing 623 contacts to the Nokia 500. Here are the issues though... The addresses did not sync (what a huge inconvenience considering this was 90% of the reason I wanted to sync the contacts). The phone numbers for each contact (if there were multiple phone numbers for the same person) sync as seperate contacts on the Nokia 500 (not a huge deal).
Question# 1) Isn't there a way to use some sort of a program on the PC to syncronize contacts from let's say Outlook or VCF files or a CSV file to the Nokia 500 manually?
    2) I copied all the data from the supplied 2gb SD card and loaded it onto a new AData 16gb SD card & re-inserted the card to make sure everything worked ok on the device - No problem. I uploaded 8 gb of MP3 & 4 gb of Movies (in MP4 format - great program to use is www.pqdvd.com - buy the iPod version or PSP version so you can use it for both) and 1 gb of pictures.
    Here are my comments:
MP3's - The player is a bit cheezy, but I was finally able to figure out how to play at random all the MP3s or play individual folders of songs at a time. Too bad you can't create or import a playlist!
FM Transmitter - Totally worthless in Sacramento, CA where there isn't a whole lot of open FM channels on the radio dial. Unfortunately my Jetta doesn't have an audio input plug otherwise this might work a lot better!
Note: the only place I can find to turn the FM transmitter on is in the MP3 playing mode (very strange & annoying)
Movies - I read a lot here to find out why the playback was so choppy & pretty low quality... Bottom line - You have to record the MP4s at about 15fps and create a MP4 file for about a one & a half hour movie that is about 600mb or so. This seemed to work pretty good.
Question #2) Is there a recommendation from Nokia experts on how to help the FM transmitter function worth a darn?
    3) I've searched for many addresses on the GPS and echo other's complaints about very strange missing information & strange city lines in Nokia's software. It's very odd to me that I have to go thru about 10 clicks to "Take me home" and that everytime the device navigates me home it takes me a very off-the-beaten-path way home.
Question #3) Is there a way to save the route you actually drove between two destinations and store that as a trip on the Nokia 500 - vs. storing just the end destination & the Nokia solution to get from point A to B.
    4) Battery life - If I had to guess the average battery life I've seen using this device is about 1 hour from power up to "I really need charging". Is this normal for GPS devices? I'm guessing it must be and most people just keep these plugged in at all times to their cigarette adapters.
    5) Traffic - From my testing in Sacramento, CA there is no traffic service or alerts.
Question #4) Is there a service I need to purchase & how would one go about turning on traffic services for the Nokia 500?
    6) User-interface - I'm brand new to this whole GPS world but as you can tell from this review I'm pretty tech-savvy... I'm a bit surprised at home much savvy it really takes to operate this device and I would think the average not-so-savvy user would be very put off by this.
Overall if I were to rate this device out of 10 I'd have to say it's a strong 6/10 and possibly a 7/10.
I really appreciate any expert feedback on my above 4 questions & 6 topics if at all possible.
    Thank you!
    ~Jeff

Jeff, here's my input on your points and questions. Thanks for writing your post...
Question 1) It only supports syncing over bluetooth with phones that meet its bluetooth specs (see the user manual on the DVD for more details or the product website)
    Point 2)
While you can't create or import a playlist on the Nokia, you can use your media player on your computer (e.g. Windows Media Player), while the SD card is inserted in your card reader on your computer, to create a playlist. Then copy the playlist file over the existing playlist file found in the root of your SD card.
Question 2) Not sure how to answer this one. The transmitter is built into the Nokia. So you just need to program it to use an available frequency (understanding that it is hard to find in your area). It doesn't unfortunately have the ability to scan for available frequencies (that would be cool).
Point 3) After you've selected to take you home, press the menu button and the Alt Route button where you can (according to the manual) configure the Nokia to block a route from being used.
Question 3) You would have to create a trip that includes enough waypoints (which you can create by creating bookmarks as you drive along) and then use that. Not to be sarcastic, but I find it funny how obsessed we all get about a GPS choosing the best route when if you already know of a better route then why do you even need the GPS' guidance? I'm guilty of this too so I'm also laughing at myself.
Point 4) I'm guessing that if your using the bluetooth integration, the FM transmitter, the TMC receiver, streaming video, using navigation, and keeping the brightness at the max setting, the estimated 2hr battery life isn't going to happen. The manual actually recommends using the cigarette lighter because it is your TMC receiver.
Point 5) My city (Vancouver, Canada) does offer TMC and my Nokia says its tuned in (I know because I've also seen the message where it says it is Tuning) yet I've not seen one traffic advisory yet. My Nokia's manual included an addendum from Nokia saying that TMC service is not available in the US and Canada. We all know this isn't true but maybe this is Nokia's way of saying their version of a TMC receiver doesn't work in North America.
Question 4) Good question. I think the answer is no because this TMC receiver is meant to work with a free TMC service. I'm thinking that maybe the only TMC services in US and Canada are pay-services that require you to enter a subscription unlock code in your GPS - the Nokia doesn't appear to provide such a function. *** This is my theory, I haven't confirmed this with any TMC provider ***
Point 6) I agree the user interface is not meant for non-tech-literates. It took me awhile to figure it out. Especially the meaning of icons and when to use them. This is NOT the Tivo of GPS
Overall I'm satisfied with my GPS even though I suspect there will never be map, POI, or software updates. I plan to figure out a way to mount it to my motorbike and ride all the way down to Mexico City (if I can figure out how to unlock the license for the Mexico map!)

  • Nokia c5-03 question

Hi all, how to set up my phone to automaticly store files that I receive over bluetooth to memory card? I have Nokia c5-03 phone, thanks in advance.

    Here's how to do it:
Go to the messaes area. You should see iems like new message, received and so on. On the bottom right side, there should be options button. Click on it and go to settings there (it should be third option when counting from the bottom). There at the bottom, you should have an option which says something like other options. In there you'll hve active memory option and you'll be able to select C: drive or E: drive. E: should be the memory card.

  • 2010 Mac Mini and HDMI question

Just bought a new Mac mini and have it hooked up to a Samsung px2370 HDMI to HDMI and as good as the picture looks I'm thinking it could look better ... And I've heard that generally a computer shouldn't be hooked up that way... The Mac mini has another mdp and the Samsung has dvi also, what are my options? All these adaptive have me stumped... Plus like I've heard On another thread the mini is thinking I have a television hooked up... Plus when the monitor was on 16/9 the menu bar was not visible and I changed it to screenfit on the monitor which worked but should I of kept it on 16/9 and adjusted it with underscan? Plz help

It works ok for me, I've got a 2010 mini (base model) and am using it as a server for web, iTunes and VPN. It handles lion fine, the only quibble is that being always on it heats up during the day a lot, more so than when I had Snow leopard installed. It's not to unacceptable levels though. But as dingy and beezelbubba say, Ram is cheap nowadays and if you've got the spare cash it's always worth it.
