Nokia N8 new IMEI number after repair

I purchased a Nokia N8 about 9 months ago from gumtree.com.  It was locked to the three uk network so I had to get it unlocked to use my t-mobile sim.
Anyway 9 months down the line the phone starts to freeze and lock to I sent it off to Nokia for repair. About 10 days later I get the phone back and the repair sheet states that a new main board had to be fitted.  However, what I have noticed is that the phone has a new IMEI number and it seems to be rejecting my sim (invalid sim).
I contacted Nokia repair and they have basically escalated the issue for me but say that because the original product code was from 3 uk, the phone has been locked back down to the three network.  I wait to hear from Nokia about this.
In the mean-time I tried puchasing an unlocking code on the web, but the company say that they could not find the IMEI code in the IMEI database or something like that.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Is the only was for me to get it unlocked by alternative methods as was done initially when I first purchased the phone? Or will Nokia come up with a solution for me? It's been 3 days and I have not heard from Nokia yet?
Three won't help me because I am not the original owner and I can't provide details of who was as the person I bought it from bought it from someone else etc...
What a nightmare.!!

If the main board has been replaced as part of a repair, then the IMEI number will have changed - this is normal. as the IMEI is stored on a chip which forms part of the main board.
For issues relating to SIM locks, normally only the network to which the device was locked can officially unlock it, a Nokia Care point cannot get involved. I'm not sure what the situation is concerning the situation with your repaired phone, I will make some enquiries.

    Any replacement device is going to have a new IMEI. You need to contact whomever replaced your device (Apple or Authorized Apple Service Provider) and work through them and your carrier. You should have some paperwork from the replacement to show the carrier.

    That means you've been given a new phone. Don't know what you mean about "istore" or your "sim". Are you saying your phone doesn't work when you put your sim in?

    My 20"G5 iMac iSight was repaired this week under warranty. The failure came without warning but everthing is working now as before.
    However, now the System Profiler does not show a serial number. I have also run the hardware tests on Disk 1 for the first time. Everthing is OK and there is a logic board serial number with a different number of characters.
    Is the iMac serial number is still the original one on the foot (base)?
    Is it possible to get that number to display again on the System Profiler?

    I have a little trick for you below. But, first I'll explain how this feature works and why it doesn't.
    The serial number you were seeing in the System Profiler is written into a chip on the logic board.
    But, when they refurbish a logic board, they clear out this serial number. Since they have no way of knowing which system it's going to be installed in next, they do not re-program another number into the logic board.
    So, when you get your refurbished logic-board installed, that location that contains the serial number is cleared.
    Apple will often reprogram the number into the logic board on complete systems that they refurbish. But, it is not common for them to do it on the individual logic-boards.
    Unfortunately, the only way to get it to display in system profiler again, is to re-program that serial number back into the logic board. And, Apple is the only one with that tool.
    But, you can continue to use the serial number that is printed on the foot of your computer for all warranty related items. That number is still your "official" serial number. So, the number you use has not changed. It is just not visible in your System Profiler.
    Now, there is a little trick to make your serial number display in the "About this Mac" window.

  • No Serial Number after repair...

    I finally got my macbook back today from The Apple Store after having the logic board swapped out because of a broken ethernet port. But have immediately noticed that the serial number is now listed as 'System Serial #' in both the 'About This Mac' dialog and in System Profiler Hardware Overview page.
    I'm pretty loath to take it back in. It took almost 3 weeks to get it back this time. Is there any downside to just leaving the serial number that way?

    Hello guys, I just hope to have an answer to my almost a month of problem regarding my iphone 4s.

    And here's the hick ups - i bought this to someone selling in a local online buy/sell site. Although he indicate the problem, I never thought it will be this worst. he said it's his father's phone, manage to get a new phone, that's why he's selling this, so I really have no idea weather it's been jailbreak or not. I had try to check this kind of problem but I could not find any related question regarding the blank screen after I press the "i" which is supposed to show the IMEI number.     I think you better check with Customer Service, make sure that they are all numbers rather than having any letters. 0 the number can look like O the letter.

    Every handset has a unique series of identifiers, one of which is the IMEI number, so if you exchanged the handset (for example if it was not working & you were still under warranty) your new handset would have a new IMEI number.
    What Apple do though is if you formally exchange your handset (again, under warranty etc) then they record the change on their system, but also give you a sticker which is meant to attach to the original box. That way, if you come to sell the handset, you have a proper record of why the IMEI number on the handset is different from the IMEI number on the box.

    I was relocating from USA to India using Air India airways. On reaching Delhi, I did not receive my luggage. I still wonder how my iphone 4S reached Turkey although my itinerary was from Baltimore to NewYork to Paris to Delhi.

    The advisor should not have told you this for legal reasons. There is no way of tracking the iPhones just of finding out which SIM cards were used to activate them and if they were activated at all. Court can authorize Apple to release this information to the count. There is no legal way without involving a judge.

    Got my phone back today from the phone shop as the charger block needed replacing, as it wouldn't charge as it had shorted out.
    Phone was working fine when got it back for good few hours without the sim in it, then when I put my sim in it went all AWOL and went into restore mode with message (IMEI number unknown) & (ICCID unknow).
    The phone was on a contract with o2 and then after it finshed, was unlocked to any network by them for a pay as you go sim phone, which it has been for the last 18 month's.
    I've read I may have to restore it but as there's many photo's, videos on there, they would get wiped off completely. It's running IOS 4. summit as never upadated due to not having enough room on my hard drive to ever put all the content on it for to do so, so I kept it the same and not backed anything up. Which I should of done but never had enough room as the hard drive pretty smal on the laptop, and the stuff on there thats important to delete to make space.
    So if anyone knows what to do or can help that be great thanks cheer.

    Once in recovery mode, all data is lost, there is nothing to recover.
    The missing IMEI number suggests a serious hardware failure.
    Buy a new iPhone.
    Apple will not touch the device since it's been opened by someone other than Apple.

    Ah, the dangers of trying to save a few bucks. Warranty is only good in the USA for phones purchased in the USA.
    Three options.
    1. Fly to the US, go to an Apple store, and have the phone swapped.
    2. Send the phone to a friend in the US and have them go to the Apple store and have the phone replaced.
    3. Buy a new phone in your home country where the warranty is valid.

    No one here can help you with this, nor can/will Apple. You need to take this up with whoever you purchased this phone from.

    There is a new security feature in iOS 7 called Activation Lock. You need the
    AppleID and passcode used to activate the iPad or it will be useless to you.
    There is no workaround.
    Suggest you try very hard to remember that AppleID and passcode. Did you try the
    AppleId you used to log into this forum?
