if your ovi suite is not working to sync, and you are trying to sync to outlook...and not OVI (online), then give pc suite a try.  works great.

n8 is not listed as a handset.  just choose the e71 or something like that.  i believe that all the versions are the same now.

  • Nokia 500 Review on Symbian Belle

After the update screen went through, I had my fingers crossed, and despite the screen saying “15 minutes remaining,” the update was finished in about 5 minutes.
Upon startup, there was a line of dots (….) which lighted up on after the other sort of like a loading bar and it was. After the loading came the usual language selection and Ovi suite options (“Create an Ovi Account” “I have an account” and of course “Later.”) after going through the Ovi suite options (literally took 10 seconds) my carrier had charged me about 0.45cents (USD cents) for the tips I had signed up on while I still had Symbian Anna on the device. Nokia suite was installing support software after the phone booted up and after 5 more minutes, I set the date, time and location and I was presented with the home screen. The standard home screen as on other Belle devices with the Flip clock, Ovi Social widget and 4 icons (Camera, contacts, Angry birds [oh yea!] and Maps) at the last widget’s position; at the bottom edge of the screen are menu, call and home screen options. The widgets take a few seconds to load but once they load they don’t lag. The second home screen has “Favorite contacts” widgets and 4 more icons (Messaging, Store, Calendar and Web), the third home screen has a Music player widget and the 4th home screen is blank for the user to customize. Unlike other Nokia/Symbian Belle devices, the Nokia 500 only has 4 home screens as opposed to 6.
The lock screen is similar to the Anna screen and is only redesigned. The Belle home screen allows usage of a background unlike Symbian Anna’s.
Now the menu: unlike Symbian Anna, the menu does not have an applications folder so everything is spread out on the home screen creating a mini mess. Luckily, there is an option to create a new folder in which to put your apps in.
In Symbian Anna, the keypad for ‘Call’ was not very user friendly as the ‘*’ and ‘#’ where not where they would be on a physical alphanumerical keypad, but on Belle, the keypad is identical to the physical one and very responsive.
    Apps:
While Symbian Anna lagged on the Nokia 500, Nokia Belle is very smooth. I don’t see any major changes with the camera on the 500 and the quality remains the same. There have been some rumors going around about the Nokia 500 getting HD video with the Belle update but these rumors are not true and the Nokia 500 remains with the usual 640p*313p video. While on Symbian Anna, there was no ‘Gallery’ icon but there is one on Symbian Belle and a separate ‘Videos’ icon is there too for easy access to downloaded videos (yes downloaded videos or those NOT taken with the phone’s camera). The angry birds app is a hugely wanted app for the Nokia 500 and is very identical to the computer version. Actually, it IS the computer version in smaller scale. Symbian Belle still allows the user to kill unwanted applications running in the background by holding down the menu key and clicking the ‘X’ icon. Ovi maps on the device is version 3.06 as predicted and even if not version 3.08, it still gets the job done.
The settings menu is the same and nothing major there too. On Symbian Anna, the Nokia 500 has many themes for different colors but on Symbian/Nokia Belle, the 500 only has one “Nokia Evolve” theme which means the users have to download their own themes for personalization.
Overall, the icons seem a bit smaller especially on the home screen and this makes the phone look abit tiny which it is. The size was not brought out in Symbian Anna but in Belle we can see how small the screen on the phone is compared to devices like the E7, N8 and Nokia 701.
With Symbian Belle, the Nokia 500 is able to really show its 1Ghz processor at work and even if it might not be able to play (fancy) 3D games due to the lack of a OpenGL compatible GPU, it can still allow us to play OpenVG games such as “Asphalt 6: Adrenaline” and “Nuke Defender 3D” available from Ovi store.

Great to see you are a happy user. I have just bought two Nokia 500 phones (another for my wife), upgraded to Belle, and both have the same infuriating problems:
    - system crashes half a dozen times a day without any warning (during calls, browsing, text messaging)
    - if I change the language for text messages, I cannot type anything (SMS) any more
    - when phone goes to sleep, it often won't wake up and I need to remove the battery (after doing this 4-5 times a day one starts to get very frustrated).
I am very disappointed and cannot recommend the phone to anyone. First Nokia that I feel this way with.

  • Nokia 3120-Review-Good or Bad / issues-plz solve

    Hi,
     I recently bought a nokia 3120 classic.My first impression was sleek,handy,stylish phone.But i realised the facts
Lot of troubles one need to take
1)Low battery performance-daily you need to charge even though it was rarely used
2)Speaker-Literally worst speaker for a modern phone
3)Interface:even though s40,its slow.sometimes hangs out.Major issue:after restart or n/w change it will take some time to come up
4)Camera-its good, but sometimes it will take time to come for camer to open after pressing camera key,you need to wait and  causes you to miss catchy moment
5)Echo-again major trouble it seems,a bad echo and poor voice clarity
6)Backlight-no way you can adjust backlight duration,it will go off within 14sec,even before you typing a message(if you r not good in same)
7)no idea how the phone will behave at important times
====>>my s/w version is latest v 9.41, it will make  no difference.
    Y Nokia made this????
any one have a comment / resolution / opinion , most welcome
i just want to see it working fine.
    Thanks in advance

My comment is it's a dud. The 3120 is my first nokia. I was led to believe they were reliable and easy to use phones. I was attracted to it by its sleek retro look. But its fuctionality is hopeless. Exactly what you said: Y DID NOKIA MAKE THIS???

  • Posting Ovi Store Reviews = Nokia Account TERMINAT...

Here's the short version of my story, which is directly summarized in the subject above (and yes, my account is being terminated against my will).
    1.  create nokia account, use it to sign in to Ovi Store
    2.  post reviews for applications
    3.  have at least 6 of your reviews flagged with the "report issue" link
    4.  recieve notification that your account is terminated.
Q: "Why did you post so many reviews that were flagged using 'report issue'"?
A:  My reviews were non-abusive.  One such 'removed' review simply stated that 'Compass Touch' was a nice application and 'did what it said on the tin'.
Q:  "Why not alert Nokia that reviews were being removed unjustly early in the process and avoid this final terminal fate"?
A:  I tried.  review removal notifications are sent via email, from the address [email protected].  Replying to this address resulted in email delivery failure notices: the account is dead and undeliverable.
Q:  "So why not contact Nokia Customer Care directly"?
A:  I did.  After a multitude of emails I gave up: they are idiots.  I never got them to understand that my issue was with REVIEWS being removed rather than APPLICATIONS being removed.  The email chain has some of the most expressive and distressed language I have ever written.
Q:  "Wait, so the account is closed.  What does that mean"?
A:  It means that I cannot buy more apps from the Ovi Store.  In 3 months I spent $75 at the Ovi Store and now that revenue stream is cut off by Nokia themselves.  All applications I have purchased are now irreversibly detached from association with any Nokia Account and I cannot re-register for an account with my username OR my email address for 6 months.
Q:  "Big deal, 6 months, so what"?
A:  Well, it is a big deal. Now I will almost certainly not buy anything ever again directly from the Ovi Store (loss of revenues to Nokia).  If I do, I certainly won't post reviews of any apps (loss of quality control and PR for Nokia).  Also note that I am developing 3 applications for S60v5 at the moment - and I am seriously finding it difficult to see a future for these applications on the Ovi Store.
Q:  "Who cares if you don't post reviews anymore, your reviews were abusive"
A:  No, they weren't.  I can't stress that enough.  My reviews were far from abusive and most of the reviews that were flagged were short, accurate and POSITIVE reviews.  Moreover, as a user I was PENALIZED for posting MEANINGFUL REVIEWS.  We've all seen the gobs and gobs of **bleep** reviews on the Ovi Store, right?  The poor language, the obvious and crude Nokia bashing, the iPhone fanboy posts?  If legitimate users with meaningful things to say are penalized for posting proper reviews, all we will have left are those **bleep** reviews that never belonged there in the first place.
Q:  "Wait, what apps are you developing anyway"?
A:  They aren't ready for public consumption, but will be released under the GPL when I am done.  'Bibliotouch' will be a free ebook reader with automatic bookmarking and social reviews that ties into the Gutenburg Project for free Public Domain books.  'NighPhone WebApps' will be an 'appstore' of sorts, providing an interface to search, test, and install widgets to launch iPhone WebApps on your Nokia device - complete with social reviews and 2 levels of installations (local bookmarks and local widget generation/installation).  Finally 'NagNagNag' will be a Location Based Service that watches where you spend your time and allows for location based time budgeting, allowing you to setup alarms such as [nag me if i work more than 50 hours a week] or [nag me if i don't visit family at least once a season].
Q:  "Hey those are good ideas for apps, can I steal the ideas and make them myself"?
A:  Sure.  Go for it.  I'm still gonna write them myself too, and release them as open source projects, so do whatever you want to.  Just be forewarned that Ovi Store might be a horrible horrible horrible place to distribute them.

While I do feel bad for the author, after reading the initial post one big question stuck out in my mind: "Why on earth are you paying money to the Ovi Store?"
The store has been around for months, and there have been literally HUNDREDS of posts across the internet about people losing money.  In addition, the customer service is abysmal and lawsuit-worthy,
    [...snip...]
Again, while I do feel that you were booted out unfairly, bitflung you should look at this as an opportunity.  At least you got out after only being $75 in the hole.
The Ovi store is like a Casino.  The house always wins, and the customer should go in expecting to lose everything they went in with.
    Ravi
fair enough.  of course, if the store would ever be anything other than a money trap it would require early adopters.  that's me.  i still drive the first hybrid available in the USA (predates the prius, btw - Honda Insight).  still own an original N95-1 (though i will sell it once my N97 gets voip support). etc etc etc.
I guess what i'm saying is, though lots of people have had issues i was still game for using the ovi store.  if i had an issue with purchasing a single app and ended up loosing $1.99, i'd be aggravated.  instead, i'm blown away: my whole account has been terminated.  that's a whole different breed of broken.  as an early adopter, this is the first time i feel truly stung by the flaws of a service provider.  even my N95-1, with all of its problems, remains as functional today as it was last year.  ovi store?  not so much.  it's like having my N95-1 suddenly disappear, or better yet like the N95-1 suddenly started rejecting my SIM card saying, "all those calls to your family look like prank calls to me, so i've terminated your mobile contract with AT&T".
anyway - surly i won't be spending any money at the ovi store again for quite some time (seems i can't even create a new account now because my mobile # is attached to the terminated account still).

  • Nokia E71

Does anyone have any news on the Nokia E71 and its release date in the UK?
I am currently an iPhone user, but with the 3G iPhone about to hit the shelves, I am surveying my options as to go with that or go back to a Nokia which I have always used. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone is a great phone, but past the glossy PR exterior, it does lack Nokia sophistication.
I am a business phone user and the e61 and e61i did fit my needs much better, just without the 'wow' factor the iPhone offers.
Do you think the e71 will bridge this gap?
(also anyone know about Good Mobile Messaging compatibility with e71?)

  • Nokia 6110 Navigator - software update to be suppo...

    Hello.

Just one question for you guys, why do you prefer 6110 over N95?
N95 has a better camera, and it has WiFi as well. All at a considerably higher price (+ $300).
Apart from that, 6110 offers mostly the same features. The battery lasts longer, and the use of GPS is much faster. No extra costs for downloading of maps or subscription for the use of GPS.
Try to check out the difference between 6110 which uses Route 66 maps, and N95 which uses Nokia Maps.
I also highly recommend you to read phone reviews on the internet, e.g. by entering "Nokia N95"+review (or test) in a search engine.

  • Nokia 1202 (earpiece at the back?)

    hi,
i've read a review and some comments online that this Nokia 1202 have problems on the earpiece? it's been said that the earpiece is situated BEHIND the set and not infront right above the LCD where there's a hole for earpiece which was claimed to be just a empty hole.
i would like to know how true it is...
i saw the review in youtube; here's the link... Nokia 1202 review ... wondering how true is his review before me purchasing this handset...
thank you and would appreciate a reply...

that's why i'm shocked to see that too and i just cant get a sample phone to test it and proof how true is the review.

  • Should I buy the Nokia N8?

    Hi everyone,
I'm in the market looking for a new phone to buy, and when I saw the new N8, I immediately fell in love with it.
The thing is, doing a little research on the phone on the internet, it seems it has a BIG power problem (keeps turning off and ultimately, failing to turn back on). If I'm not mistaking, this problem has been discovered back in November 2010.
Considering this phone is relatively expensive, should I buy it or not? considering that it has been nearly half a year since the power problem has been detected and that the Nokia people have "taken immediate action across the product line.", so probable the problem should be solved by now right?
    Cheers!

Sales = 1,000,000's , complaints=100's, do the maths, and do some independent research ! Most reviewers are very positive, I have a Symbian^3 phone and love it, but it may not suite you, do some research and find a phone that suites your needs ?

  • PC Suite 6.8.1 - compatibility problems with PC mo...

I run Windows XP with service pack 2 and have a Samsung Syncmaster 172v monitor. [Phone is 6230i]. When I downloaded Pc Suite 6.8.1, on rebooting, my monitor screen resolution changed to the lowest setting and I couldn't adjust as my only option in display settings was 'default monitor'. When I uninstalled 6.8.1 and restored to my last 'restore point' I had lost some elements of the Pc suite so the previously installed version was also not usable. I think this was vers 6.7 but not sure as I now have no way of telling; Version on CD that came with phone was 6.5.12 but that wasn't compatible with SP2 (didn't recognise phone was connected) so I downloaded the (then) latest version from nokia website. This was July this year so i assume it was 6.7.? - does anyone know where I can find a copy of this to download? Any help gratefully received as I currently can't download pics or upload music. Have tried to install 6.8.1 3 times - with same result each time.

I have the same problem. I run Windows XP with service pack 2 in a laptop, satellite A65 working with an ATI DISPLAY DRIVER RADEON 7000 IGP and after I download and installed the Nokia PC Suite 6.82.22.0, it results in troubles.
On rebooting, my monitor screen resolution change automatically from 1024x768 to the lowest setting 640x320 without notice.
First I thought that i need to update the video driver, so I do it. But the problem still there.
After that, I remove the Nokia PC Suite program, restart the laptop and then the problem was solved, the screen resolution does not change.
People of NOKIA: Please review your program and fix this problem that change the monitor video screen resolution with out permission.

  • Is N8 a good phone

    HI all,
My buddy need a phone mailny for email purpose and a litlle bit camera use.He alredy has E71 and wants a replacment. Is N8 any good.

'Good' is a relative term, most reports seem very favourable, but if camera is not a priority I wouldn't go for it, it's not really a replacement for the E series !! I'd either wait for E7 (which I am doing) or look at alternatives, tell your friend to do a little research on the web

  • 770 WiFi connectivity issue

I just acquired a Nokia 770 Internet Tablet and it is a wonderful device, except in one area that is rather important: the WiFi capability only functions within a few metres of the access point - in fact I need to have all four bars in the display showing (green) or I can't access anything!
Searching the Net I find that this is apparently quite a common problem, and according to one review it may be due to a hardware fault. I have tried all manner of different settings on my Belkin access point, to no avail; I can see several WiFi networks in the area but I can't connect to other open ones either. There are other users who have reported good operation with the Belkin access point and as a result I doubt this is merely a problem of interoperability between these two specific devices.
Any observations on this problem would be gratefully received. Is there an advance replacement procedure to swap the unit (I am in the UK), and if so who do I talk to? I have had variable luck in the past contacting Nokia support - I tend to be sent round in a circle.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    --Richard Elen

I have had my Nokia 770 for about 3weeks, and finally it's
everything I expected as far as features and screen resolution,
along with WIFI Connectivity. Initially I connected to WIFI
Networks at Mcd's and nation chain bookstores with no effort.
Initially I could not connect to my home wireless router.
Because I moved recently I could not find my router manual
for the login info. When I finally remembered the login info,
and got into the router settings I noticed that MAC Filtering
was Enabled. From there I went into the 770 User Info Screen
for the MAC address and then once I saved it in the router,
it worked just great from anywhere in the house.
I definetely give this product 2 thumbs up!
