Nokia N8 USB Transfer Corrupting All Files

Hi all,
My N8 (anna) was running just fine doing transfers through Linux. Now in Windows 7 64 and any file that I transfer, in any mode (USB, Ovi) gets corrupted. This happens to either internal 16gb or the memory card.
Any ideas?

My first suggestion would be to check the computer's motherboard manufacturer has updates for USB drivers or other important issues with Windows 7 64-bit. Sometimes a firmware update sorts out strange problems, and for Intel motherboards their updated .INF file can make a big improvement.
Also try if files to and from an ordinary USB thumb drive gets corrupted?

Transfer of all files in a directory tree using FTP adapter?

Hi,
I'm looking for a solution to transfer a whole directory tree, including the content, from one location to another using the FTP adapter.
Is there an easy way to accomplish this?

I'm just wondering on the need to do that using SOA. Is it a regular transfer or one time?
There's a way to move a single file from one FTP location to another on the same or different FTP server (link to the cases). But in order to move all the files in a directory, you'll have to loop this. The high level steps will be:
- List all the files recursively that are present in your directory using File List operation
- Implement the MOVE file operation (or COPY operation) of the FTP Adapter
- Invoke this MOVE operation in a while loop and pass the file names, as gathered from the File List operation, one by one to MOVE operation
You can also use single Java Embedding activity and call a Java class that does the File Transfer but depends on your requirements.

Video to USB transfer, not all clips veiwable on pc

So I like making vids on my downtime and would use sharefactory to make videos. Although Sharefactory doesn't give the justice with very little editing options. I decided to start transferring my videos to pc where i have adobe premiere pro to edit. When i looked at the videos on pc, not all could be played. In fact, only about 20 or 30% of the videos i transfered could be edited, played or even showed a thumbnail. I looked around and i'm not the only one with this problem. I've tried 3 different video players, and found out the files are corrupted, then i tried 2 other flash drives, and still didn't work. Ive tried transferring video clips numerous times and couldn't get any results. If there is a fix please tell me. If not this would be great in an update fix. I've looked at other forums and it seems i'm not the only one with this problem ...

Extra = Make sure VLC or SMplayer is on the PC to test with... windows Default player WMP is not MP4 compliant... nore is Windows 8.1/RT metro apps...

Unfortunately, Time Machine backups that are stored on a drive that has been connected directly to a Mac are completely different than Time Machine backups that are stored on a Time Capsule.
Frankly, it is not worth the effort and trouble to try to transfer the old backups to the new Time Capsule.....my opinion....having done this in the past.
It is possible though, but I would not recommend it due to the complexity and downsides involved with this. To give you an idea of how to do this, check out this support article.

Even if you transfer the "old" backups over to the Time Capsule successfully, Time Machine will not simply "add on" to the old backups.
Time Machine will make a new complete backup of your Mac and then add incremental backups from that point.
My advice.....start a new backup on the Time Capsule and move forward. Keep the USB hard drive around for a month, maybe 2 or 3 in case you need to go back to an old backup for some reason. At that time, you will not likely need the old backups at all since you will have a current 2-3 month history of new backups. At that point, you can erase the USB drive and use it for another purpose.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over. Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over? I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another. Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Or you can simply use the Restore option of Disk Utility to clone the drive to the backup:

Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

How do I deal with a fire wire HD after iSight has corrupted all the files?

When I bought iSight I was unaware that it works with pityfully few firewire hubs such as Belkin powered FW hub. I corrupted two drives before asking the forum who were very helpful.
After the corruption the files could not be read from the HD nor could the HD be written to. I managed to get the data off the HDs by connecting to another computer. They work perfectly on the other rig. However when I try to use them on the computer that they were corrupted on it is the same no IO without an error message. I have tried all the usual privileges stuff, ignore ownership etc but no go. Any ideas as to how I can use them with the original computer?

The above was the easy fix for your problem which is an I/O issue.
If you want to live on the edge, AFTER making a backup, are you are familiar with with how to use 'Console'? It's in Applications-Utilties-Console.
If so, can you access the logs and see if the sort of read error that has been logged? It is also possible (although improbable) that the OS logged a detailed message elsewhere.
Good luck and even though not "solved" here in the iSight group, you might try your HD question in Computing Hardware and under your MacMini group to see if anyone has better answer/solution.

All files saved to external HD in last 2 days are gone or corrupt.

The last couple days I've had specifically two whole folders and all files inside either go corrupt or missing on my external hard drive. At first I thought my external was just failing so I recreated one of the projects and saved to another external hard drive. Woke up this morning and that folder is completely missing along with the 2-3 files inside. Now, I'm scared it's a Mac issue not a hard drive failure.
I save all my files to an external hard drive which then gets backed up via CrashPlan to their online backup. Unfortunately CrashPlan is slow to upload files so the most recent ones are not backed up.
I'm running 10.8.5, haven't updated to Mav yet. Is that advisable?

Yes, that is correct. The organizer is just a database, so your photos are wherever you put them intially. Did you import from iphoto? In that case, organizer does make duplicates (to avoid writing into the iphoto library, which would be a Bad Thing to do). If you didn't specify a location, the copies that PSE uses will be inside subfolders in the Adobe folder in your Pictures folder.

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

All files on USB turn into .ink files

Whenever I put a flashdirve on my macbook all the files and folders on the usb turn into .ink files and I cant open them on a mac. I need to solve this problem ASAP because Im afraid to put my hard disk and loose all the files on it. This happened to 4 of my USBs and i have no backup of some of the stuff on them.

I spoke with the techs at apple support, they likewise were stumped. His suggestion was that I reformat the drives as Mac OSX journaled. He thought the FAT32 may have been the issue as it is not natively supported by the Airport Extreme, but also was not positive since it is one specific folder out of 500 or so on my drive that is having the problem... he thought it may be the content. Unfortunately, the content in that folder is not different from any other folder on the drive. It is set to use accounts and not a single password. All the settings for permissions, etc are correct to allow anyone to access/read/write to the drive and folder... really baffled.
Going to try formatting the drive and then giving it another go.
