Nokia N8: white balance in snowy images?

I'm not sure whether this is my imagination or really happening.
Also, I am not sure whether it happens only on pictures containing
snow or in other pictures too.
Here is what seems to be happening: the center of the image
seems to get a different "colour" of white than the rest of the
image. The center seems to be more yellowish. Or you could
say that the center has a bit of a "glow". Sorry for the inprecise
terms... I'm not a professional photographer.
I'm not saying that it's a problem or anything, nor that it is good or
bad... perhaps this is so by design, or results from the focusing system
or something. I'd just like to know whether I correctly noticed it or not.
It is hard to spot this while viewing the images full size on the computer,
but it is evident while scrolling through the gallery thumbnails on the
phone and even on thumbnails on the computer.

So, it's not just snowy images, the issue is visible in other images in which there is white.
See below. The center of the image is visibly "reddish".
I'd appreciate some input as to whether this happens only to me or...?
Is this a software thing? Or sign of a faulty lens or camera module?
The phone was bought under a 2-year guarantee, so I will replace it if it's a hardware issue.

  • White balance for infrared images

    Hello there,
I love making infrared photos with my digital camera (Canon dSRL).
When I take an IR shot, I usually set the custom white balance inside the camera, so that false colours appear correctly. If I open the CR2 RAW file using the software provided by Canon (Digital Photo Professional) the image appears correctly; on the contrary, if I use Adobe Camera Raw (which I prefer to) it seems that my custom white balance is not properly displayed.
So I'm wondering if this is an issue of CR or there is something to do that I don't know. Can you help me?

This tutorial by Sean MacCormick shows how you can edit the camera profile so that White Balance for IR images is brought within the adjustment range that Camera Raw and Lightroom http://lightroom-blog.com/2009/05/creating-ir-camera-profile.html

  • How do I include metadata information (aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance) to each image on contact sheet?

How do I include metadata information (aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance) to each image on contact sheet?

Just to expand JimHess reply. This are all the EXIF data you can include on a print. As far as I know, WB is not written to any standard EXIF fields.

  • Apply White Balance To Multiple Images

Now that I'm shooting RAW all the time, I'm really, REALLY getting tired of having to manually change the white balance for every single image. As many of you probably know, you can select any number of images in Abode RAW, and then use your WB source image to mass-apply the white balance to said images. Further, you can select images and then contextual-menu to apply changes.
For the life of me, I cannot see how to do this in Aperture. I've tried everything I know to do, but I still have to manually activate individual images and then set the WB. If I could mass-apply a preset to a group of pics, that'd be passable -- but I don't see how to do that, either.
    Thoughts? Advice? Solutions?
    Thanks,
    Maury

Hello! One way to do it is to first make sure that Primary Only is off. Then make the white balance correction to an image. Then use the Lift tool to lift the white balance off it. A dialog box will open showing you what is being lifted. Now you can shift-select a beginning image and an ending image. The shift-select will apply the Stamp to everything in between.

  • Adjust white balance for multiple images at once?

Is this possible to adjust the white balance for multiple images at the same time?
Or adjust the exposure for that matter?

Of course, this is similar to the question you asked in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3964192#3964192
except use White Balance instead of Exposure. For others who might be wondering the same thing:
    1) Set the White Balance for one image.
    2) Select all of the images you want to copy the White Balance to.
    3) Type "O" to initiate the Lift & Stamp HUD
    4) Click on the image with the White Balance you want to copy with the with the L&S up arrow.
    5) In the L&S HUD uncheck all the checkboxes except Adjustments.
    6) Click on the disclosure triangle to the left of Adjustments. If there are other adjustment settings besides White Balance listed, select them and delete them with the delete key.
    7) Once all you have is Adjustments White Balance in the L&S HUD, then click the "Stamp Selected Images" button in the L&S HUD.

  • After adjusting white balance in ACR, images are opening in Ps at a different size.

Can anyone explain like I'm 5 why this is happening, and how to prevent it? Thanks!
Negatives are scanned at 3200dpi, and 24bit depth. This is the metadata from Bridge.
    Default settings in Camera Raw
    After opening in Photoshop.

Scanned direclty into photoshop. And if I open the tif from explorer or bridge, bypassing Camera Raw, it opens as the 75mb file size. I thought it might have somethign to do with the color, as Bridge labels bits/channel as 'Bit depth', but the images all are 24bit, even after White Balance correction in Camera Raw.
Thanks for taking the time to help me figure this out. It's been causing a huge problem this week.

  • Transfering white balance from one image to many images.

I'm starting to shoot with a gray card to get better color representation in my portraits... I typically shoot RAW.  I've read that you can save the white balance info from one image ( in a DNG file?) and transfer it to other images that are either JPEG or RAW ( as long as the initial image is a RAW). Anyone know how to both save the info, then transfer it?

It doesn't directly address your question, but another way - sometimes useful for a group of modestly sized set of photos taken in the same light - is to open them all in Camera Raw (e.g., by opening them all in Photoshop), then using the Select All function and adjusting the white balance settings (or choosing a preset).  When done, press Done, and those settings will be saved for each of the images.

  • LR4 beta white balance on cropped images

I'm not sure if this has been discussed, I could not find a post with silimar issues.
LR4 Beta 64 on WinVista : Nex 5N raw files
WB picker on a cropped image seems to give variable (and wrong) results
I wanted to tweak WB an image that I'd previously cropped and made some adjustments to....WB was already close, the picker on a white fishing bouy was at ~90/88/91. Clicking the picker on bouy gave a strong red shift, about +5 on the red.
1st time I did it I thought I'd jerked the mouse somewhere, tried it again.. and again with similar results. Repeated several time.
I opened LR3 and had no problems with the same image.
I reopened LR4B and got the same problem again.
Undid the crop and the WB adjustment was fine.
I went back to LR3 and cropepd the same image the same way and WB was fine.
Went back to Lr4B and again, WB was off.
I reset the image so that it had no other adjustments. WB was OK but again when I cropped it it was off.
Opened another image and did the same thing. ie full image WB was OK, cropped I got a +5 or so shift, although this time in blue.
Tried it with a different crop and got a -15 on red.
WB zoom level was at max

    Eric,
Take just about any photo and crop so all the sides are moved toward the middle. It isn't hard to find a point on the image where the white balance dropper looks like it's over a near-grey(and its numbers say near-grey), but when you click, the picture gets an extreme colour cast. And the point where you click doesn't go grey, either, but moves much farther from grey.
    Here's the crop:
Here's what happens when the eyedropper is over the almost-grey snow:
Note what's happening in the Navigator preview. It's as if the eyedropper were over the yellow jacket, but the numbers on the loupe show grey.

  • Adding White Balance To Raw Images

Does anyone know how to add a custom white balance to a raw image using Photoshop Elements 2?
    Thanks,
    John

The only way to work with RAW in PE 2 is if someone created a plug-in specifically for your camera's RAW files. For instance, for my Minolta RAW files, I used Dalibor's .MRW plug-in for PE 2. But there's nothing built-in in PE 2 that understands RAW. ACR appeared with PE 3.

  • I am trying to white balance my acquired image, but instead get a green image, has anyone encountered such a problem?

Similar to Vision's white balancing utility, my VI allows the user to draw an ROI around a region and ideally reset the red, green, blue gains to make the area white. When I make red, green, and blue values equal one another, instead of white, I get a green region. Has anyone else had this problem or know if I am doing something completely wrong?
Or has anyone tried doing this already and knows of a white balancing algorithm that works?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chris,
I'm using IMAQ ColorImageToArray and I've checked with IMAQ IntegerToColorValue that I'm getting the correct RGB values. I can post my code, however, I am using a QImaging camera which only uses their own VIs to do functions similar to IMAQ functions such as grab setup, grab acquire, initialize, close. The VIs can be downloaded here: http://www.qimaging.com/support/downloads/.
    Thanks again for the help.

  • Why does adobe camera raw keep saving images with the incorrect white balance?

I am having an issue when I edit images.  here is the scenerio:
I choose 50 Raw files and open them in Camera Raw.
I edit each individually - many of them have different white balances.
Once I have each image how I want them, I select all and click done.
Sometimes all the edits are saved correctly, but very often all the changes are saved correctly except white balance.  The program seems to take the white balance from one image and applies it to all the images.
Why???  Very frustrating to have to go back and individually edit all the white balances again.
    Thanks!

It seems to not happen if I slow down a few seconds before I click select all and then done.
That should not be the problem, once you changed settings and hitting done they all should be applied immediately. It even is not needed to first select all, that is only needed when you need to open or save the files.
But I still don't know why it would only change the white balance in every shot and not everything.
If it happens again could you first in Bridge select one of the none changed files and with right mouse click menu choose select purge cache for selection?
And can you provide more details about system version, app versions and file types?

  • Lightroom: Why does auto white balance no longer work after changing the camera calibration profile?

I'm using NEF raw files from Nikon.
Lets say for example I import a NEF file into Lightroom (v4) and click on 'auto' for white balance. The white balance in the image is  adjusted correctly (somewhat). However, if I then change the camera profile (in the camera calibration section) from 'adobe standard' to 'camera standard' then the white balance in the image becomes very wrong. I then have to set the white balance back to 'as shot' and correct it manually instead.
Why would 'auto white balance' no longer work just because I change the profile from 'adobe standard' to 'camera standard'?
    Any ideas?

    Works as expected here...
Which Lr version and what OS??

  • Bug Fix for White Balance Issue (When ?)

    Dear Apple:
When can users expect a patch for the bug that "crept" into Aperture late in the development cycle that seriously effects the white balance tool?
This bug is obviously a major concern and issue for most professional-level photographers; and, quite frankly, prevents Aperture from being used in a professional capacity with regard to RAW decoding.
    Cheers

    Excuse me, John:
But, quite frankly I don't think you are in any position to tell the users of this form how they should feel. Most users, who happen to be high-end prosumers or professionals such as myself, have paid a great deal of money on a piece of software that was supposed to live up to certain, basic expectations. Unfortunately, that software did not. As such it cannot be used in a professional environment.
Subsequently, an update was provided to address all the concerns that users expressed. Unfortunately, that update created a major issue with regard to the white balance of RAW images. Yet again, this expensive piece of software is nearly useless in a professional environment.
Let me ask you this: "if you were a gardner and paid several hundred dollars for a lawn mower, only to discover that it cut your clients' grass unevenly, would you continue to use it? Would you continue to be patient after taking it into the repair shop only to have it still screw up your lawns? Would you not be on the phone with the repair shop constantly until it was fixed?"
Unfortunately, Aperture is a good idea that has a flawed implementation and that NEEDS to be addressed! So, I will continue to ask Joe and Steve and the others at Apple when will this piece of software actually live up to the expectations set forth by the company that produced it!

  • Loss of white balance correction

I just returned from a dive trip. In addition to cropping, adjusting the exposure and cropping, I use the white balance feature to correct the color of photos taken without a flash at depth. I uploaded my cards to my MacBook Pro (both the laptop and my Mac Pro are running Aperture 2.1.3), and edited these images. When I got home, I exported the project (like I always do), and imported it into my main Aperture library on my Mac Pro.
When I review these images, the color-corrected previews are seen in the Browser. When I click on an image, the color-corrected preview is shown in full size on my second, 30" Cinema Display while the RAW image is loading. However, once the full image is loaded, the white balance reverts to the original - but the levels and cropping are maintained! I can re-do the white balance correction, but once I quit and restart Aperture again, the white balance correction is again lost - but not my other edits! Thus, not only were the white balance corrections done on my laptop lost when I exported/imported the project, the repeat corrections done on my MacPro are lost when I quit and restart Aperture.
Curiously, after I've re-done the white balance on several images and quit, when I restart Aperture there is no indication that there are any images or projects that haven't been backed up in a vault.
This has never happened before when I would import a project; the last time I successfully imported a project with all of its adjustments maintained was February (I don't recall when 2.1.3 came out). I've searched this forum to no avail; has anyone else experienced this?

I've the x-rite passport and I can say only a thing:
Color correction seems to be an opinion!
With Aperture (and Canon RAW) with only white balance you will get an image very very close to the result with x-rite calibrated DNG and Adobe Camera Raw, but...
In both case Colors are very outside of reality!
Adobe Camera RAW and Canon DPP give other different "crazy opinion" on blues reds and greens, and the only program that I found go very closer to reality seems to be CaptureOne.
In my tests I've used two 5600°K Bowens lights to take a photo of x-rite passport and I've tried to compare it with the official datasheets from xrite:
    http://xritephoto.com/phproductoverview.aspx?ID=1257&Action=Support&SupportID=5159
Seems very difficult to get real colors from the same RAW file, and every software give a personal opinion from the same data (?!)

  • White balance 5.2 bug

I'm having a strange issue with the 4.2 RC I've never seen before and just wanted it reported.  Sometimes the white balance of an image will just reset to around 5000k when switching images, it will just lose the custom user setting.  The last time I noticed it, it was when I selected a batch of images and adjusted the noise reduction as a batch.  Then the white balance started resetting again when moving through pictures.

    Changed title  for accuracy...

Make sure that there is no preset involved that is doing this. What does the last step in the History panel say.
If no preset is involved this behavior could be due to a corrupt Preference File. This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr does not replace the Pref. File since it is designed to "survive" re-installations, updates, and upgrades.
See here for where to find the Preference file for your OS: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroo m-4.html
