Nokia n80 endles faults

k.. firstly it started with the charger deciding to stop working, i was told its a common fault and had to purchase a new charger. next, sending text messages seemed to be a major flaw, it takes up to two mins to send a msg n if that wernt bad enough, the whole phone freezes so u cant do anything else or receive calls. I had that fixed at a nokia repair centre which lasted a month n now its started playng up again. I have never been able to recieve mms regardles of network and having the correct settings. n now the menu key doesnt work at all. the phones been nothing but truble.....

I have recently become the proud owner of a 6500s and for the 1st few days it was the best thing since sliced bread, but then it all went wrong.
1st fault:switching itself on and off when it wants.
network response: its a known fault and i need
a software up date.
2nd fault: cuttin off calls.
network response: its a known fault and i need
a software update.
3rd fault: media player developing a mind of its own
network response: its a known fault bla bal blah
4th fault: not reading memory cards
network response: its a known......... can u see
a pattern emerging here.
I got the phone from a well known phone shop and when i took the phone back the first time with all the listed faults they said it was dust and that i need a carry case for it which he then tried to sell me one of for 15 quid.
i insisted the phone was faulty so he got a fault code from Orange.
i got a new handset and thought all was well but then my partner who also has a 6500s developed the same problems again shortly followed by my new handset.
she is now on to her 2nd and me my third where i got the same handset for the third time she got the 6500 black and so far she has no problems with it mean while mine still has the turning on an off problem but i will learn to live wit that but mine has developed a new prob..... the camera keeps activating again i will live with that until update is available..
what i was wanderin tho if there re this many faults on a phone model why on earth are Nokia still shipping them out??
i was told that most phones develope one of these problems listed but to have all of them on 3 phones from one shop then surely a recall is needed.
Intek ..... the shop i got the phone from say if this problem comes back on my 3rd phone then i will have to go direct to orange ......is this legal when the shop have to offer a 28 day equipment guarantee on each piece of equipment....
my advice choose a sony ericsson or samsung you will be alot better off avoid the 6500s like the plague.....

It's either a software fault or hardware failure.
Backup everthing you want to keep then download and install the nokia software updater:

Nokia N80 successful sync but appointments 1 hour out

Hi All,
I have managed to get my Nokia N80 syncing quite succesfully using the plist file edit mentioned in earlier topics.
Only one problem though, and it has probably occured on other Nokia devices, when I create an appointment in the phone calender it synchronises and puts an entry in iCal one hour earlier. Then next sychronise it moves the phone entry back one hour to match.
The iBook is on network time from Apple europe. It is currently British summer time so 1 hour ahead of GMT.
The N80 has been set on both non network time and network time with the fault occuring with both. The clock is set to 24 hour as I understand there are some issues when in 12 hour mode.
Anybody had such a problem and found a fix.

Can I use a Nokia N80 as a modem for my G4 PowerBook?

I'm about to spend a month in Italy and will take my G4 PowerBook with me. I need to buy a new mobile phone and thought that if I buy the Nokia N80 Internet Edition I can also use it as a modem for my PowerBook and connect using UMTS or EDGE. I already have a prepaid SIM card with TIM (Italian mobile service provider).
Has anyone successfully used the N80 with their G4 PowerBook?

No A2DP support for Nokia N80!

I just wonder why Nokia can't add support for A2DP in the new firmware for Nokia N80ie cellphone. =(
I just uppdatet my phone in hope of getting somewhere,but it was pointless.
It would be pretty nice if i could use my N80 as a real media centre with my Jabra BT 620s bluetooth headset but no way.
I am just intrested why not, i have read som discussions in this forum and other N phones did get their uppdates with A2DP support . Or am i wrong. Am i doing somethig wrong and cant get this to work?

A2DP and AVRCP does not require additional hardware for bluetooth 1.2 and above. It is based purely on software simulation.
Nokia can support A2DP in nokia n80. but battery could be an issue. Initial prototype of N80 had bluetooth 2 but then it was downgraded to 1.2 !!!

PC Suite 6.80.22 and Nokia N80 Failed Backup

As the title says..
I chose to backup only stuff on my phone (not mem card) and it copied everything except
Message Dialog Box: "Some Content on the phone could not be be read and was not included in the backup"
SOME?
The log then says that the following wasnt copied:
Notes
Calendar
Contacts
**bleep**???
It copied all my \sounds\digital directory, but nothing else... whats going on here?
PS: Backup was via Bluetooth

Sorry, I didn't explain it well enough... when I said that you've got some copyright material on your phone I meant things like the original ringtones which would be copyrighted by Nokia, stuff like that. Your calendar, contacts and notes aren't copyrighted.
When I say to try closing the applications - I was referring to the contacts, calendar and notes applications on the phone. Hold down the menu key to find what applications you currently have running... if you see contacts, calendar and/or notes in the list, select them and then exit them properly using the back/exit buttons to close them.
FYI, if you press the red end call button to get out of the contacts screen (or anywhere else), it doesn't actually close the application, it just takes you back to your desktop and leaves the application running.

guys the new firmware has small fonts it is not good.further iam looking for other changes in log

buddy they have improved the bluetooth. its nice.
LT font router is also not working so u have to remain with small font but psiloc font magnifier works

Sliding n lcd problems on nokia n80...

i have a nokia n80..
after using it a few months..
the screen going blurred after i sliding up the phone...
ive sent the phone a month a go n the technician said the lcd screen broke down n repaired it...
but yesterday, the same problems came out again n there is something bad with the key pad (navigation keys) when i slided the phone..
what caused the problem with my phone actually? is the sliding strip or other?

I think it is more then likely the ribbon cable that connects the two halves.
You can get it replaced at your local Nokia Care Centre. I think they should have replaced that instead of the display the first time.

Nokia N80 - iMac G5 BT transfer freezes at 263.9kb

Hi,
Each time I try to transfer a large file from my Nokia N80 to my iMac G5 (OS X 10.4.6) using BlueTooth the upload freezes exactly at 263.9kb I have no problem with files which size is under 263.9 kb
I've contacted Nokia regarding this issue and they answered me that this has nothing to do with us and that I should contact Apple support.
Any idea to fix this issue? Anybody alse having the same problem?

I just ran into this problem and Googling for "263.9" seems to reflect a number of similar cases.
A poster at another forum had received word from Nokia saying "nothing to do with us" and indeed all the Google hits indicated a Mac user suffering from the problem.
However, some information hinted that phone firmware updates would have fixed the problem for some models. Woohoo for contradictory information.
I ran into the problem using a factory fresh Nokia e70 and G4 PowerBook with 10.4.6, and the firmware for this phone is indeed the latest.
More information on this would be appreciated,

You can delete orphaned users (I hope you have a report of ones) , but if you are unsure, start with one user --delete it and see if someone start complaining :-)

How do you get the nokia n80 to work as a remote d...

my friend has a k700i and he can use it as a mouse on his desktop computer via bluetooth with the built in remote control software on his phone, is there anything i can get for my nokia n80?

Make sure the flex box in the parameter baox (upper left hand side) is checked. Otherwise, no markers will be visible.
Also, you will probably get better results with drums using the slicing or rhytmic algorithms

As far as anyone can tell there is currently no way to change font sizes on the handset itself (more's the pity) but maybe in some future update? However, there are many different themes on the net and some are nuch easier to read than others, themes being the colours, patterns and icons on your phones display, enter into a google search: Series 60 3rd edition themes, and you will get a lot of sites offering downloads. Personally I think the standard Nokia theme is easiest to read though. Btw, you can add different fonts to the N80 but sadly they are pretty much the same size as regular Nokia ones - Nokia, we don't all have 20/20 vision you know!

I have a nokia n80. recently i deleted some files from my phone memory. then i found that my gallery isnt working.
no audio, video, pictures r displayed. i can still access them by other softwares. How can i restore them in gallery?
can any1 help me please.

Lol, never ever delete the tumbnail files, that are to show yout the files (and ofcourse related to phone system).
Definitely a mistake.
Anyway, try the trick, if fails, try the hard reset.
(You have to back up the phone memory data like contacts, calender etc by PC Suit).

Nokia N80 startup problem

hello everyone. i have recently bought a nokia n80. i have been uploading new themes on my cellphone and one of the themes messed up the screen. so i turned off and on my cellphone and this message pops up. it says "Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer." can someone please help me fix this problem. i just had my cellphone for least then 1 month. i do appreciate if someone can help me solve this problem.

You will need to take this to a Nokia Care Point.
Once your phone is giving the message "contact the retailer" its a fatal error.
You have already lost all phone contents not saved to sim and MMC.
You can find your nearest NCP to you at the Store Locator
Also from the IMEI you gave, your handset holds no warranty in the EU.
It was a handset which was produced in Nigeria.
You will only be able to get that fixed there.
