Nokia N82 Network Mode

Why do I could not make outgoing calls and receiving incoming calls when my network mode is in dual mode while last two months its still okay? When I try to make an outgoing call it will show connection error and while receiving incoming calls the caller will be forwarded to my voicemail. It has to be setted on UMTS or GSM mode in order for the phone to work properly. How to fix this? Please help. Thanks.
If you think what I've just post is useful, do give me a kudos! xD

This evidently has nothing to do with call diverts, so I have no idea where the above user got that idea. The phone registers to the network if forced to GSM or UMTS mode but not if set to "automatic".
This is often a software problem. Start by switching the phone off and removing the battery for 10 minutes. Then reassemble and try.
If that didn't work then you'll have to try a reset. Back up your phone's contents but not the phone's settings to the memory card or using PC/OVI Suite beforehand because this is going to erase everything.
Dial *#7370# and enter your security code when prompted (the default on all Nokia phones is 12345 until you change it).
Restore the backup you made.
If the problem persists then you'll need to contact your operator and explain the problem to them. It could be a problem with your SIM card, in which case they can perform an over-the-air update or even replace it if necessary.

Is "sequence mode" in Nokia N82 as bad as in Nokia N95 ?
In my previus mobile - Sony Ericsson K800i I could take 9 photos per second. This superb option, caused fantastic photos of moving objects.

Nokia could produce something similar though.

  • Nokia N82.. Anything to know?

I'm upgrading my N73 which unfortunately is under a year old because of the following factors:
    - Camera has completely packed up after intermittent periods of not working.
    - Camera slide gets dirty very easily, so while taking photos even though the slide is open it flicks back to idle mode.
    - Intermittent 3G (UTMS) failures on ALL networks. This could also become a total failure like the camera.
So I move to my question,
What positive and negatives (minus the keys, they're fine) should I know about the N82?
I've not seen any negative views at all, and makes me glad that I didn't get the N95/N95-8GB as they seem to have a constant array of problems.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Current: Nokia N900!

I can't find any negatives with the N82. In fact it restored my faith in smartphones after my bad experience with the E65 and the disappointment of the N70.
I've had it since the middle of december and not had a single crash or random reboot. It still feels as fast as the day I bought it, even after installing over 40 apps and themes into phone memory. Firmware updating is a breeze thanks to user data preservation.
It has to be the fastest symbian based smartphone i've used and it's a lot quicker whilst accessing menus than the N95 or N95 8GB. Build quality is very solid.
I have had to disable 3G on it because I live and work in poor 3G signal areas which when enabled causes the signal to go up and down like a yo-yo. I have had to do this on all of my past phones so it's a network issue.
One thing that I don't think the N82 will be good at is ngage gaming as the buttons are all wrong for that.
I highly recommend this phone to anyone. If there's anything specific you want to know, just ask.

  • 6500 Classic 'GSM' Network mode selection unavaila...

I moved to 3 network but on their phones the network mode is locked to dual or UMTS with no provision for GSM only. This zaps the battery. I have found a way around it on the N82 by downloading FTD FieldTest app and going to FTD 81.01 where you can overide firmware restrictions and select force protocol to GSM.
Unfortunately on the 6500 Classic I cannot seem to get FTD? Please advise if it is possible to obtain FTD for this S40 device or if there is any applet that will overide this settings for me.
I've spent about 4 days solid on the net trying to resolve this as the 6500 C battery life is so bad it needs 3G turning off.

    Hello,

    i. Dual Mode
    ii. 3G
    iii. GSM
But when you select Duel mode in N8 and before selecting Dual if you are using GSM mode then mobile does not select 3G and continue to using GSM network.
If you select 3G first and then dual mode after then only 3G is selected in dual mode.
As there is only two option GSM and Dual mode in Nokia N70 I could not get 3G network.
I request you all to please guide for getting 3G network on Nokia N70.
    Thank You,

The N70 supports network dual mode. The 3G sign is supported by most operators, but not all, so you could be connected in WCDMA mode without noticing. Check your manual and download speed.

    Hi,
It appears that Nokia haven’t implemented the standard fully. According to our router the Pre-Shared Key Format should be either 8-63 characters OR 64 Hex digits.
See the section on “Security in pre-shared key mode”
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Protected_Access
But the N82 is only accepting the 8-63 character setting not the Hex option.

I have a problem with the network of the device. The device is working fine only with the Network Mode UMTS, but not working with GSM and Dual Mode, which makes it doesnot have network signal  in many areas, while I have another Nokia 5200 phone whick works fine in these areas.
Is it a Software or Hardware problem?

  • Nokia N82 freezes

I have a Nokia N82, while it is a great phone, the OS on this phone leaves lot to be desired. This is from my 2 months of experience with this phone.
I have Nokia Maps application, which occasionally freezes the entire phone. None of the buttons work, including the power button. All I can do to get back on track is to remove the battery and put the battery back. Such a bad solution. Power button, like in PC should work even if the OS hangs - but it does not behave right on this phone.
Now, this problem could be due to hardware problem, so I decided to find out more on this. I took the Nokia Maps application and then removed(took backup on the PC) couple of the .sis files which were there on the memory card. After this, I could consistently reproduce the hang on the phone when I clicked on the Extras->Guides option in the Maps application. Replacing the .sis file back lets the Guides option work like a charm. What it tells me is that, if the application fails to find a file, it just hangs the entire phone - some thing that would remind me of the horrors of Windows 95. Yes, the nokia OS is yet to catch up with time. Surprisingly, I could keep the menu button (it is the only key that responds in this scenario) pressed to get the "list of applications", but I can't still close the application. Come on Nokia, I would expect power button press to get a higher priority than the Menu list button press.
The biggest problem with this phone is that if the memory card gets corrupted or some files get corrupted, then the entire phone will freeze, instead of the application freezing.
Agreed, it is a feature rich phone - but if it is not stable, it would rather turn more people off.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had problems with Nokia Maps 2.0 freezing on me (just as you described above). All my Maps issues disappeared when I switched off Assisted GPS (AGPS). The phone takes a little longer to get a satellite lock but there are no more lock ups or crashes.
    Maps > Options > Tools > Settings > Internet > Go online at start-up > No
    and also,
Menu > Tools > Connectivity > GPS data > Options > Positioning settings > untick 'Assisted GPS' and I also unticked 'networked based', so that only Integrated GPS is ticked.
    Worked for me.
    *EDIT*
I do agree with you though, I would like a power button to work when the OS has crashed completely. It's very frustrating that a frozen or hung handset can't simply be switched off using the button instead of a complete battery removal.

  • Nokia 6700s Network issues

    Hi everyone,
This is Naveen from Hyderabad, India. I hope some one has an answer to my problem.
I have a Nokia 6700 Slider, bought 3 months back. Problem is while at  home phone does not seem to pick up signal. Its either completely disconnected (no bars) or 1,2 signal bars. My other nokias (1200, 6303) with same network service provider at the same location shows good signal bars.
In the begining, I thought its the issue with the SIM and purchased a new one, same problem. So, I tried swapping SIMS with other mobiles, new SIM in other phones works just. But, when other SIMs are placed in 6700s, same issue zero or poor connectivity. Most of the time, no connectivity.
Whats worse, this is my first 3G phone and I was really hoping to upgrade my service my plan to 3G. But, what would would I do with 3G, if the phone has problem with connectivity at home.
I'd appreciate any suggestion to improve the situation
    Thanks
    Naveen
Note: While  swapping SIM, I've observed there are 2 tiny gold color metal contacts on the inside of the back cover and on the phone. What are they?

What network mode is selected.. Select GSM and see if that makes a difference..

I wrote all my posts from 2005-2011 as an "Admin" for this community. I still work for Nokia as an external consultant, so my rank in all posts is now "Employee".

if nsu bricks phones then nokia should completly take NSU off there site n stop people from updating. its a product from nokia that should be up to standards. im just saying when vista released they had problems with NSU and took there time to prepare a fix and now a year later that same problem exists on n82 n 6220c.
also look at how many users have had there phone go through recovery mode or blinking screen. nokia are so advance with there phones n they cant be bothered to implement FOTA in all there new nseries, eseries devices were this reduces the phone bricking as FOTA are little updates.
Nokia need to stop the NSU and prepare a ultimate fix for it. They make to many new applications and they cant even fix the problems that exist with there PC suite, Nokia Music Manager etc.

Load pc suite on to your pc ( www.nokia.com/pcsuite ) and then connect the phone to the pc via cable.
There is then a 'connect to the internet' option within pc suite.
(You will need to configure the setting by selecting your network operator from the drop down list)

  • Signal drop problem in Asha311 network mode is kep...

    Hi All,
I just purchased new Asha 311. i just noticed one strange thing. If phone network mode is kept on "Dual mode"
I am facing signal drop problem after every incoming or outgoing call ( same the case with SMS ).  when we keep network mode in "GSM" mode  there is no problem at all.
    is anybody facing that problem.
guys please suggest what should i do ? . is it a problem in cell phone.
    Regards,
    amit kushwaha
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When you select the dual mode the device will try to find the 3G connection. If the strength of 3G is adequate it will connect and when the strength falls it switches to GSM. Now if you are in an area where 3G is available but the signal strength is not that good, it will constantly switch between 3G & GSM. That leads to problem. Keeping phone in GSM mode forces it to stay that way & ensures constant connection. If you have 3G activated, then you can force the device to stay on 3G by selecting that mode. Please note that the coverage area of GSM in some places is more than 3G so you may get no signal on 3G but it may be present in GSM mode.
Please mark the post as solution if it solves your problem.

  • Nokia n82 great phone...when it works!

i love my nokia n82. I purchased it second hand in june. I upgraded the firmware a few weeks after. After around 2 months of ownership, after switching between sim cards a few times, it would restart every few minutes. The interval became shorter between reboots and it would occasionally freeze, forcing me to take out the battery et al. I tried hard resets (* 3 and call button) would work for a day and then resume the problem. Did research and tried taking out the memory card. That worked but was really annoying as i would have to walk around with my memory card in my pocket in order to access files. Eventually the phone started to restart, freeze and glitch without the memory card in. Reinstalled firmware, worked with memory card for a few hours but then went back to same problems. I have formatted my memory card several times. Both using a pc and phone. Funny thing is, even with a formatted from pc card, when i tried to format it with phone, it would say memory card in use by application format anyway? Despite having nothing on the card. Just wondering if thats normal. I doubt i'm under warranty. My nokia device is made in china and the text on the inside is spanish. Any help would be appreciated. Sending it to china would be a seriously costly option and i can't afford to be without a phone. Help! Thanx in advance

could all this be the work of a virus? Or would the hard reset clear up that? I think this all started after a friend of mine was trying to fix a virus plagued hard drive via usb on my machine. I guess there was some form of infection passed on as my operating system had to be reinstalled with a non genuine version me xp. I was previously using xp 64 bit version. Anyways i'm not too sure, but i think the problems started after i transferred files using the non genuine os. The reason i'm asking is because everytime i format the memory card on the phone, even if formatted on pc, it says its in use by another program. Also i connected it via usb yesterday and attempted to use data transfer mode and it would repeatedly say that the memory card is in-accessible as it is in use by another program. Is there and antivirus or something that i could use to identify and remove any possible threats? I would also like an app that could be used to monitor all the running apps on the phone. Thanks in advance
