Nokia N86 8MP Charge Problems

I have been using this Nokia Phone N86. Never used any other phone other than Nokia's in my lifetime. But I AM DISSAPOINTED by NOKIA. They have failed to impress me. What i got was sub-standard service; below expected technology which failed to impress me. There had been charging issues with my phone. Referred it to NOKIA Service Care in New Delhi; IND and was told the phone has to be send to the maufacturer. I have heard from most users that the 'USB' style charger is faulty. For the good ; i now dont trust the brand Nokia. I dont think they even know if they stand for excellence. If they can exceed people expectations then you shouldn't be in the market at all. I have decided to ABANDON NOKIA FOREVER. Maybe now have to shift to other providers...Hope that someone exceeds our expectations. NOKIA You Live in Mediocrity.

  • Tom Tom on Nokia N86 8MP?

Hello all, Would appreciate some advice as to the best sat Nav software on the market? Having owned a Tom Tom Sat Nav I would prefer if there was compatible software for my Nokia N86 8MP mobile phone as Tom Tom are usually user friendly! Also would like to here from people that have used the following software and there experiences with it: Navmii Co Pilot N Drive Route 66 Garmin XT Mobile. Thanks in advance Khan

Thanks for the reply "jjegan" I did not realize there was a co pilot 8 due out for Nokia, must say looks the business. Any ideas mate when it is due for release? Heard good things about the Garmin Xt mobile but put off due to them no longer supporting this and last update to map i believe was in 2008! NDrive looks ok but again put off due to customer support in Portugal and no office in UK. Any ideas on the Navmii? They seem to be located in UK and reasonably priced at £29.99. If release date is not to far away for copilot 8, i think i will hold tight for this version but thanks for the input much appreciated. Khan

  • N86 USB charging problems

The N86 uses its micro USB port as the main point chraging but, for some reason, only accepts from the included charger or when the included USB cable is connected to a PC.
I bought an external USB battery from Amazon that I used during travel to charge my iPod and other devices that use USB charging, but the problem is that it doesn't charge the N86 no matter how many times I try it. It also didn't want to charge when I connected its USB cable to a USB wall plug.
The output of the battery is upto 1000mA which is the same the max for the USB port.
Can anyone can shed any light on this matter?
    Thanks in advance!

I recently bought the HAMA "Piccolino" charger kit with both a "100-240V socket to USB" and a "12V Car Cigarette lighter plug to USB"
At first no luck charging my N86 8MP
But after shorting pin 2 and 3 in the USB the charging works
It seams that the phone don't see the charger when pin 2-3 is not in data mode or shorted.
Pin 2 and 3 are the two middle pins in the standard USB plug.

  • N86 8MP charging failure !

My 1 week old N86 8MP won't charge the battery properly.
    I dosen't matter if I use the USB-cable or the 220V-cable.
It works 1 of 40 tries.. but im getting mad before 10 tries!
Right now it's on my bed with the 220v-cable plugged, it loades for 1 minute or so, stopped, restarted the loading for a minute more, and now its just laying there beeping like a maniac! IM GETTING MAD HERE!
Sometimes it wont react to the charging at all. Sometimes It starts, stops, start, stops, start, stops, and so on .......
I have a feeling it have something to do with the energysavings-mode(engergisparläge), but that can't be turned off, just change the delay for it. And I cant reinstall the firmware right now, because the power is to low.

    WOW! LUCKY ME!
Phone shut down, USB-cable connected to one of the USB-slots in back of my laptop, and it have been charging for maybe 10 whole minutes now!
I'M SO HAPPY ! (untill next time the n86 want's its food)

  • Nokia N86 8MP Photo Album problem

    Hi
Recently, when I opened the gallery to look at my photos, I found that in the "Captured" section of the gallery it said I had 0 photos, when previously there were around 300. If I try to browse to the pictures using the "Months" feature I also find there are 0 photos. The photos all still exist under the "All" catergory, however they have lost all the album associations they had before, and also a lot of them, had become other photos, in the older photographs kept cropping up again and again in the list of pictures.
When connected to the PC in mass storage mode the photos were all still there, and the ones which seemed to be duplicates of old photos when viewed on the phone were actually the photo they were supposed to be. Anyway, now when I take a new photo it it goes into the captured section of the gallery, BUT when I try to view the picture all I get is a thumbnail and picture of old pictures taken back in September. Again, on the PC they are the right photos, as they are meant to be.
This is super annoying, as I cannot view pictures I have taken recently, and most of the old pictures are unviewable as well (since the phone thinks they are duplicates of other photos), and the organisation of the 300 or so previous pictures has been lost, they are not in albums any more.
I have found NO helpful support regarding this with some Goolgling, PLEASE can someone help me out here? I am sorry if the description is unclear, but this is an awkward problem to describe. ANY help at all would be appreciated, as I have only just got this phone, and i really like all the features of it but I mainly bought it for tyhe camera and if it won't work I will have to change it for something inferior in functionality, but more reliable in imaging.
    Thanks in advance
    Henry

Mine does that sometimes. It is a bug. Take the battery off and restart the phone. The pictures taken won't ever return to the gallery but new ones should go in properly. Yet another infuriating feature. There seems to be an issue with the phone if you close the camera slider with the main slider open. It causes some issue with saving new pictures. It also does it even if you are careful not to do this after so much use. Unless you check after every photo taken that it has gone into the gallery you have no idea it is doing this as the post picture preview appears as normal. I also wonder whether going into messaging with a photo while the camera slider is still open is leading to this bug too.
It might be better to save all the pics onto the pc and delete every one of them off the phone and see if you can restore them back from the pc.
Also see if a sd card is any more/less reliable for picture taking storage.

  • N86 8MP CHARGER

Matter of time, i have only had this modle for 2 weeks and now on second phone,is it just me or are you haveing a problem with the charge, why change a tryed and trusted charger pin system to this ??
i feel it will be a major problem, while you sleep your n86 will run out of battery and yes no alam
along with the fact that when it does charge ,unplug and the batter indicator keeps operating as if still on charge, any iders ,

Exactly the same fault has happened to me after around 5 months of phone owenership, and coincientally happened when I started to charge the phone via the supplied USB cable as opposed to the mains charger (I had lost the mains charger). Initially the charging connection felt a little insecure, and then after a little while it wiggled it's way loose, and the phone would refuse to charge.
Initially I took it to my local Carphone Warehouse, as I am in Edinburgh and this is our 'official' Nokia service station. They repaired it locally but unfortunately that repair lasted two weeks before wiggling loose again. The guy at the time had said it'd be sent down South to get repaired and get new 'clips' because it is a known fault that these phones have dodgy clips to hold down the charging socket, and the new ones supplied by Nokia are better. This time it got sent down to Nokia, and Nokia have replied saying the phone is both water damanged and the USB cable connection is broken, therefore they will not replace the part due to customer damage. I dispute this for two reasons:
The phone has never been near water, let alone submerged. If the phone cannot take rainwater from within my pocket, it is not fit for purpose.
It is imposssible to take the charger out of the USB socket without moving the connection once the clips are unhooked, so inevitabley this is broken.
I am still to pick up my phone from the Carphone Warehouse, but apparently they take pictures to highlight the damage. I cannnot wait to see them, maybe an engineer has deliberately spilt a glass of water all over it. I've never felt angry enough to take a complaint to Trading Standards before, but for a phone that sells for £300 off both Play and Amazon on pay-as-you-go, frankly I'd expect more from Nokia, but apparently they don't want to know. It is clear that Nokia know of the fault based on what the staff member at Carphone Warehouse initially said to me, they are just trying to shirk they're obligations.

  • Nokia N86 8MP Gallery hanging

    Hi
I have in general been well pleased by my N86, but one thing has defeated me so far.  At some point (and no, I have idea what I might have done to provoke this) the Gallery application became unresponsive.  Upon launch, it will show empty yellow bars - as seen in the rather out-of-focus screenshot. These can be used to navigate to blank screens or in some instances empty folders.  If you choose the menu button, it will inform you that it is working ('Behandler' in my Danish version), and it continue to do so until the battery runs out.
I have tried the following in different permutations:
    Hard and soft resets
Deleted Pictures directories to ensure there were no corrupt hidden files (and later recreated the directories)
    Tried with microSD card
    Tried with no microSD card
    Formatted microSD card
Used phone memory, internal memory and external memory as location for photos
All to no avail.  I'm using a Mac, if that has any bearing on my situation.
    Any suggestions?

hmm ok try the third option since it sounds like you are willing to try just about anything. this you would do with phone turned off and see how this works for you
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
    1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)
    3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • Nokia N86 8MP

Can you set this phone so it can have moving wallpapers (bmp). I put a few on it and the all stay as static images.
Also I downloaded some Graphics for my phone (SIS File) it's an animated clock, being dumb I don't know where or what to do with it?

Thanks for the correction Big 'Orra, can I make another suggestion then. Bin them,! try a couple of sites that provide advice on themes, where you can get them free. I recommend Tehkseven or Nokia users, but there are many others which I'm sure my esteemed colleagues can suggest and are mentioned in other sections of this forum. You will find ways to change the appearance of your phone and instructions on installation etc . I have loads of themes on my phone and have tried many others, some work, some don't. So if they don't work. or I don't like them I simply delete.
    Good Luck
