  • Nokia N900 software update to V10.2010.19-1

    hi,
I am trying to update my Nokia N900 OS version to V10.2010.19-1. My current version is 3.2010.02.8 and I am trying to update the software version to 10.2010.19-1 using Nokia software updater tool. The tool is able to recognise my device when connected via USB in PC Suite mode and it determines the available version as3.2010.02.8 in the mean time time it says the available version is also 3.2010.02.8 and it says my phone is upto date. I am wondering what to do and how can i upgrade my software. I am trying to to the update from Sweden. Could someone help how can i update my phone to new version.
    Solved!

For some reason NSU is absolutely useless for the N900, as is the Nokia "Can I Update?" page.
Your best bet would be to grab a PC and update using Maemo Flasher, by following one of the many tutorials on here or over on Maemo.org: Firmware Update Wiki.

  • Error code 12017,nokia e66 software updation fails

The following errors occours when i want to update nokia e66 software
i was updating my phone software, during updating something wrong done, due to this
1- My mobile phone files mmssync and contact group ds plugin corrupted.
2- When i update my phone software through nokia suit,  nokia suit try to install mmssync and contact group ds plugin but gives error msg files are corrupted.
3- when nokia suit download phone software and begin to install it,then usb cable disconneced then after some time connected.
please tell me what should i do.my phone model is nokia e66
Answare me as soon as possible.

I doubt that it will fix your firmware installation problem, but I did once have a problem where a "DS Plugin" became corrupt.  The fix is to manually delete the bad program(s) in Application Manager (possibly in Control Panel -> Application Manager -> Installed Apps).  This is perfectly safe.  Delete "Contact Group DS Plugin" and probably "MMSync", too, then reboot the phone and reconnect it to Nokia Suite.  The plugins should then install normally.  I hope that helps.

The phone doesn't yet support this "operator codes" so you need to call the appropriate number instead. I understand this feature will be coming in a firmware update.. See this thread for more info

  • Nokia N95 connection error

    Hi Guys,
I would appreciate, if someone could help me with Nokia N95’s connection error problem. I have my Nokia n95 from orange. From last two weeks every time I try to make a call, I get an error saying ‘Connection error’. I tried upgrading my phone’s firmware from version 10 to version 11 but in vain.
I tried talking to Orange support staff but they turned out to be clueless.
    cheers...

I've had this randomly on my phone on O2 before. I didn't get it from O2 though.
I've read somewhere in the past this is a common occurrence with all symbian or n-series phones.
But i've been in the middle of a call on my N73 and it fades out and then flashes up "Connection Error" and my mate has had this quite frequently on his Orange N80.
    Hope this helps.

  • N900 Software support is shockingly bad!!!

Nokia. Why release a phone with no/very little software support? It's been about 4 months since the release and it's still not much better!!!
I replaced my Iphone with the N900 because it's meant to be an Iphone beater, but the truth is looking sadly the opposite.
Nokia Map loader is not working and the PC Suite has bugs and it's complicated having to switch between PC Suite mode and Mass Storage mode. What's happened to my free Navigation?
Come on Nokia this is embarrasing, I absolutely love this phone and I want to recommed it to my friends, but with the software situation that's not a possibility.

    N900 Personal Review
Hi all, I would like to make some comments about the New Nokia N900.
    Shortly the phone SUCKS!
I have been a Nokia user for about 10 years, and for the past 3 I have been using the NSeries, I started 3 years ago with the N95, then moved’ on to the N96 an now as you can see I have had the chance to use the N900 even though my original plan was the N97. The reason for this is that I contacted my provider (T-Mobile UK) as I was due an upgrade, and was told that they didn’t do this handset directly, but I could get this phone if I did the upgrade though Carphone Warehouse (Don’t even get me started on them) any way I contacted Carphone Warehouse and told them that I was due an upgrade and wanted the N97, the idiot on the phone started telling me that the N900 was much better and that it was faster and all. I told him I would have a look into it my self, at least to read some comparisons online. After having read the comparison on several sites, on “paper” the N900 sounded much better, faster processor (N97 is about 400Mhz, N900 is about 600Mhz), more RAM, the use of a Linux based OS and so on, sounded great, I accepted the upgrade with 14 days exchange if not happy.
Well I have used the phone for about 3 days, and let me tell you what I think…
The device is not as fast as people say, you would not think that there is about 200Mhz speed difference between them and that the N900 has double of the RAM then the N97. Yes it does allow you to open several tasks at once, but the CPU drain off more demanding applications is definitely noticeable, for example when running a YouTube page in the background with a video playing and opening other apps, the music temporarily stops just like the N95/N96 did/do.
The fact that it’s a new mobile technology makes it also not very popular right now and there is lack of application unlike the Symbian OS used by the N97, even Nokia them self are not up to speed, the OVI map on the N900 is version 1 point something and is really useless, unlike version 3.03 (3.04 BETA out too) of the N97 (don’t forget that I am using the N97 as a Symbian comparison).
The firmware upgrade is very complex for general users, this includes having to use a Flashing Tool and command lines, I had some issues at the beginning and I am an IT technician. The NSU (Nokia Software Update) didn’t detect the new version available even though the phone was delivered with version 1.x and the version available was 3.2x.
Even the phone “Hard Reset” is complicated, once again you have to use the Flashing Tool and download an other file called EMMC that should technically erase the 32GB memory, but be were, after having used this file my contact were still there and some other information were there too such as my OVI e-mail account and my SKYPE account details, there was also a file from the sketch software that had not been deleted and had to do so manually.
Talking about SKYPE, many sites when comparing N97 to N900 state that the N900 has SKYPE and some other software unlike the N97, well I use to use SKYPE on the N95, it may not be inbuilt but no one says you can’t download it, I use to have SKYPE Lite with many more features then the “messaging” SKYPE inbuilt in the N900. I also use to have 3 different versions of Opera, Windows Live messenger, the IPlayer application, an application provided by SKY TV to control TV listing and Remote Recording, Google Map, Google YouTube application and much, much more, most probably you wont find half of those for the N900, but you don’t see anyone stating that anywhere.
The N900 also lack the option to create folder to organize your applications, any application is “plonked” with the rest in a random order and there is nothing you can do about it, apart from creating a short-cut on one of the 4 useless screens and try to organize it that way.
It also seem to lack the use of the SIM contact option, all you can do is copy from the SIM but not use the SIM storage, now my SIM allows me to store 200 contacts, this would A) save memory on the phone, and B) be used as a back-up of the numbers. I normally use it as B, I back-up the numbers on the SIM (apart from the PC) because the SIM does not die as easy as the phone, lets say (and this has happened to me before with the N96) that the phone drops in the bath, the phone would most probably short and die, but if you had the numbers on the SIM you can move to a back-up phone no problem, same as if you drop the phone and it brakes.
An other issues I had with the N900 is that when you create short-cuts on one of the 4 desktop, you cant align the items, so you may have one up, one down and so on, you would think that they would have a snap to grid or something, but no such thing.
The battery is worse then any phone I have seen, I have lost a “line” while playing only 2 YouTube videos over 3G network hardly anything else running, now the videos were about 3 to 5 minutes each so lets say I lost a battery “line” in 10 minutes, I guess with-in 1 hour your battery would be flat.
The battery charger is not a standard Nokia one (pin) but it uses the same socked of the USB cable, maybe they run out of money while designing, who knows, the only good thing about the charging is that you can charge it while connecting to the PC via USB.
The keyboard misses the mouse pad that we have on the N97, and even thought the device supports on-screen keyboard too, I have noticed that many of the application only support the normal slide-out keyboard, application such as the OVI map (while using the search address option).
The messaging options are very limited too, IM and SMS is all included in an option called conversations located in the main menu, as far as I have seen you are also not able to select multi items when trying to delete them, and this does not only happened in the “conversations” section, I had to delete all the inbuilt songs 1 by 1 and several other files 1 by 1.
The camera options are very limited too, and the picture quality is very poor as far as I can see, I have taken better pictures with the N95 2 years ago.
There seem to also be a limitation when trying to edit website short-cuts name on the desktop, the name is basically what ever the site owners use as a title for the site, for example YouTube uses “YouTube – Broadcast Yourself” and that’s what the phone seems to use as a desktop short-cut title.
The 3G seem to also run slower on this device, web-page loading time between this phone and the N95 seems to be slower more then faster.
And this is what I have discovered in 2 and a half days of using the phone, I don’t even want to imagine how dissatisfied I would have to be if I had to keep this phone for 12/18/24 months, luckily I have the 14 days to exchange and will contact Carphone Warehouse in the morning to arrange an exchange for the N97, I have already taken my SIM card out and placed it in a spare N95 I have at home, that’s how quick I want to get away from the device.
My general advice would be to stay away from this phone and technology at least for now, and not to always believe what is stated by device specs on “paper” as sometimes it’s not all as expected.
This phone reminds me of a scene from the film “Bad Boys 2” when Will Smith is driving the black Porsche with Martin Lawrence.
Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence): You mean, y'all paid, what, $80,000 for this car and you ain't got no damn cup holder?!
Mike Lowrey (Will Smith): It's $105,000 and this happens to be one of the fastest production cars on the planet. Zero to sixty in four seconds, sweetie. Limited edition.
Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence): You damn right it's limited! No cup holder, no back seat. Just a shiny **bleep** with two chairs in it. I guess we the balls just draggin' the **bleep** along.

  • 1. Installed maps on Nokia N900 not showing - 2. k...

Although I have installed local maps dae through nokia maploader to Nokia N900, when I start the Map app on the phone the data is missind. Instead it downloades it from internet.
I must clarify that if I reset the phone by reupdating the software the map data is working but as soon I reinstall the various apps I have , the local map date is not showing.
Any idea which app might get in the way?
Second question, regardless of my settings, the map app connect to internet. Every few minutes it asks me to connnect although I have disabled the automatic connections.

    tanago wrote:
By the way where are the links to every map data version?
As predominantly a Mac user I have published links to a variety of map series upon the forum, but now there is very little demand except perhaps from users in India with 5230 without WiFi and high data downloading costs. As Mac support fairly sparse moderators have kindly allowed discussion of manual installation of map data, which should not be an issue for Windows users with Nokia Suite.
Unfortunately the latest map data only appears to be available for Windows Phone 8 devices and that for Symbian ones will probably fall further behind in future.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • Nokia E61 - Connection Error

I have a new E61 (from Vodafone in the UK). Most of the time it is fantastic - email, text, internet are all fine. However, over the last 2 weekends it has failed to make telephone calls. It displays "connection error" once it starts ringing the other number and then disconnects. It receives calls and sends/receives emails but fails to make a standard call. I tried ringing my home number and as soon as the phone rings it comes up with connection error. If I swop the SIM to a different phone I can make calls. Thew problem disappears after some time for no apparent reason.
I've taken it back once ad it started working and was OK for a week. Any ideas before it goes back again?
    Cheers Dave

First, uninstall any occurrences of PC Suite and Windows Installer (if available) in the Add/Remove Programs. Then re-download PC Suite on a local (not network) hard drive just to avoid any transfer errors and installation failures:

I tried flashing and downloaded "Flasher", "WinFlasher_3.12.1.exe", since I've windows 7 in 32 bit operating system.
It opens properly, but after i give first command "flasher-3.5.exe -F pr1.2.bin -f". It shows prompt command and says nothing about detecting, as lot of post refers to.

First, Thanks a lot for replying.
Second, I'm not very familiar with linux. I followed the instructions posted by ceroberts75 as sticky at the first page.
    1. Download the Flasher
    2. Download the latest firmware image for your N900  (you will need your IMEI of the device)
    3. when you save the global variant of the firmware to the "flasher-3.5" folder, save it as "pr1.2.bin"
    4.  When you save the vanilla file of the firmware to the "flasher-3.5" folder, save it as "vanilla.bin"
    5.  Turn your phone off
    6.  launch the flasher-3.5 program
    7.  type this command:   flasher-3.5.exe -F pr1.2.bin -f
it will then scroll a bunch of gibberish and then say it is looking for a unit.
    8.  with the phone still off, hold slide the kb open and hold the "U" button while you connect the usb cable to the phone.  continue holding the "U" until you see the faint "NOKIA" logo and/or the USB connection symbol in the top right.  The flasher will find the device and automatically flash the unit to the original rom
    9.  after about 1.5 minutes, it will be complete.  DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR UNIT!
    10.  type this command:   flasher-3.5.exe -F vanilla.bin -f -R
    11.  now it should reflash the device and wipe the emmc clean of EVERYTHING.  after it reboots, you can disconnect it.
My problem starts after step 7. It doesn't scrolls any thing nor it says its looking for the unit. It keeps going back to prompt command.
I hope somebody can tell me what mistake I'm doing.
    Thanks.

  • Network service commands on my Nokia N900

    Hi there!
I just acquired my N900 two days ago from a Nokia authorised dealer in Nigeria and even convinced a colleague to pick one yesterday as well.
I live in Nigeria and my GSM operator is etisalat, im presently experiencing difficulties with using service commands on my phone. For instance, when i dial *235(hash, sorry cant find the symbol on my macbook pro) to check my balance; i get an error message saying "number incorrect". Other service commands dont also work. Is there a way around this?
Its frustrating also that there is no official Nokia plugin for isync. I use a macbook pro and cant seem to find a way around syncing both devices. In the interim, I found www.salling.com very useful in transferring my media files.
Should be grateful for useful tips and hints.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Actually there is a way to use service commands. You have to use an app called USSD pad. Here is the instructions from santy245 on how to install the USSD pad app.
    1. First, install Rootsh v1.5 download it here http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/rootsh/
or http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Ma... to enable root access on X Terminal.
1B. download -->.deb file) put it in a folder name the folder a
    2. Open X Terminal on the Nokia N900 (ITS IN THE APPLICATION MENU PAGE 2)
type sudo gainroot  (Just like that) and press enter. (This will not work if you skip the        first  step)
    3. Ok now type cd MyDocs/TheNameOfTheFolder
(include the path name of the folder you made if you made a new folder.
I made a folder and called it a) this what I had to type cd MyDocs/a (Just like that)
       and press enter
    4. Ok stop while running X Terminal open the File Manger to make sure your .deb file is where
you said it was and rename it to ussdpad (Just like that)
    5. Then go back to X Terminal type dpkg -i ussdpad.deb (Just like that) and press enter
ok you are done go to (APPLICATION MENU PAGE 2) you should see ussd pad

  • Nokia Map Loader Error in connection

    Hi Guys,
I have an N80 and have the MAPS software installed on my phone and the Nokia Map Loader software on my Laptop. However, in order for me to download the maps I have to connect my N80 to my laptop in Data Transfer Mode and then run Nokia Map Loader. This should then allow me to download the Maps. I get an error when connecting to my laptop in Data Transfer Mode. It just says Invalid usb connection or something like that. No I don't think it is the maps software but I would like to know if any of you had the same problem before and how it can be resolved. I sent a note to Nokia Tech team to see if they know but it takes a while for them to get back to you.
So, does anybody know how I can get past this or get the MAPS downloaded?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

can´t connect nokia map loader, error, won´t work?
I had this same problem, found your post looking for an answer (lol), and I just SOLVED the problem ; )
First, you don´t connect in data transfer mode. You must use pc suite mode, or it won´t work.
Second, (and this is the tricky part), YOU HAVE TO INSTALL nokia maps on your smartphone (so far ok, we all know this), but then you have to RUN THE PROGRAM ONCE.
Don´t ask me why, but if you just install nokia maps, then try to connect with nokia map loader, it won´t work. You have to install the program then run it once. Exit the program, then connect to you pc (nokia map loader) with pc suite mode.
BTW, do NOT install nokia maps on your smartphone on the phone memory. ALWAYS USE THE CARD MEMORY, install nokia maps on your memory card, because the maps are so huge. Most phones won´t have enough internal space.
So this is it, no more suffering. Damn, I´m good ; )
