Nokia N95 8GB / Photo Albums - make private

Hi,
Is there any way when adding a picture in a photo album to be seen only when accessing that album and not in the general view when going to the "Images and Videos" in the Gallery ??
Than you guys...

Connect the phone to your computer in mass storage mode.
Assuming you're using Windows, a new removable drive will appear in your "My Computer".
Look in there and see if there's anything in the "Images" directory. If there isn't anything then I'm afraid you'll have to restore what you can from your latest backup. You did do backups regularly, right? People usually do when they value their data.

  • Nokia N95 8GB Album Art and Album Folders Issue

I have been hunting for for a resolution for two issues with the N95 8GB Media Player all over the web.
    1. Adding artwork (CD Covers) to audio tracks (or albums) seems to be at best hit and miss. Most of the time it just does not work.
    2. Deleting an album delete all the tracks but deleting the album folder seems almost impossible.
Well this weekend I decided to try to solve this and I think I may have hit upon a solution.
Since so may people have the same problem I thought it worth repeating. I would stress this has not been exhaustively tested but it does work reliably so far.
I am using Nokia Music Manager 2.0. The fix is simply to convert the files to AAC rather than to M4A (which is the default). After this simple change everythig worked find for me. I can add and delete albums from Nokia Music Manager 2.0 (don't forget to refresh on the phone afterwards) AND reliably add Album Artwork.
So here is how I have been working.
    1. Set the conversion format to AAC. I have been using 'Ultra high' quality setting. Options Menu >> Setting >> Conversion Tab.
    2. Next put in a CD, select all the tracks and choose copy to my collection.
    3. While this is going on I find the artwork on the Web. A simple Google Image search with the album title and artists last name / band name seems pretty 100% to get the on the first page. Download image to My Documents / My Pictures.
    4. Once the CD Rip is complete they will all appear in My Collection. I select all the tracks in my collection for the album in question, and then right click on one of them and select Edit.
    5. I then attach the Album Artwork by clicking on the blue folder and choosing it from my, MY Pictures folder.
    6. Finally select Copy to Phone from the File Menu.
This has worked for me so far 100% and I have done 20 or so albums.
    NOTES:
To get Nokia Music Manager 2.0 I uninstalled the version of Nokia Phone Suite that came with my phone and went to
http://europe.nokia.com/A4144905I (or seach Google for "nokia phone suite"
I chose the N95 8GB downloaded and installed. At some point shortly after install Phone Suite informed me that there were updates available and Nokia Music Manager 2.0 was one of these.
I was originaly using this and suffered all the problems you guys have. After searching the web and finding no solution I decided to do some experimenting.
    Hope all this helps.
PS If you need to delete all your legacy album folders, this is the fix I found on this same site. You can do this at any time.
    1. Enable the option to be able to see Hidden Files and Folders in your Windows Explorer.
    2. Connect your n95 8gb to your computer and choose data transfer mode.
    3. Go to My COmputer >> Nokia Phone Browser >> Nokia N95 8GB >> Memory Card E:
    3. If you have selected Show Hidden Files and Folders (see 1) you should see a folder called Private.
    4. In the Private folder you need to delete the contednts of three folders
    \private\101FFC31 (mpxv1.mpd and pcv5.mpd)
    \private\101f8857\Cache
    \private\101ffca9
In all the 3 folders delete all the files Not the FOLDER
Next time you restart the music player it will rebuild the indexes without the deleted albums folders.
Hope this helps someone. It restored my sanity.

    Album Art
    Basically there are two methods
    Method 1.
You do it on the phone. Load the album art pictures to the memory card. (Must be JPEG NOT BMP)
    Load also the music files.
Open Music application in the phone. Open an album then select Options->Album art then Options-> Add, browse for the picture and select Ok.
    Repeat for each ALBUM
    Method 2.
You do it on the PC.
Get a Tag editing software like Tag&Rename, WINAMP, etc.
Edit the files Metadata to include Album Art picutres (again they should be jpeg and also they should be set as Cover Front).
Transfer the files that have Album Art using File transfer (usb mass storage) don't use MTP or PC Suite as these methods may convert the files and Album Art will be lost.
Or you can continue using your Method

  • Copy contacts between PC and Nokia N95 8GB without...

    Hello...
    I have Nokia N95 8GB.
I have 300 contacts stored on my PC from previous phone which was Nokia N90. What I want to do is to copy my contacts from my PC to my Nokia. But without PC Suite, without any synchro, just to copy them like in windows explorer, copy folder and paste folder.
Is this possible? I mean, I can do this, but don't know where to place them inside Nokia folder tree - I want them to be visible inside address book...
    Thanx!!!
    Solved!

I am not sure this will resolve your problem but you could try with this.
    1. Remove Previous phone plugins from Library/phone plugins (If any files are there)
    2. Delete files from User/Library/caches/
    3. Remove chaches from System/library/chaches
    4. Download and install iSync plugin from Nokia website
Make sure you have installed all available updates from Apple using Software Update and your phone firmware is updated.
Are you getting any specific error messages?

Dude i think u just spoke french!
Sorry to say that i didnt get a word that you said.
I assume you have upgraded to windows 7 and are unable to use or install nokia pc suite.
First of all it aint nokia's fault that windows 7 came after they had uploaded the setup.
All you need to do is download the pc suite to you computer or laptop or whatever it is ... then right click on the setup and click compatibility mode nd just keep pressing next next next.
Im sure your pc suite will be installed then and you will be able to use your computer to transfer everything to and from the phone..
Have fun and lemme know if it worked.
Chances of workin = 101% because im on windows 7 aswell

  • Nokia N95 8Gb Keypad Fault

    Hi All,
I have a Nokia N95 8Gb which has developed a strange keyboard fault..
The number and top plate buttons only work when the slider is virtually closed, with just the *,0 and # keys exposed. If you slide it all the way open, none of the keys work. If you slide it all the way shut, none of the keys work.
I have tried removing the battery for a more than 30 minutes with no success.
I have also carefully taken the phone to pieces and re-seated the ribbon cable plug and it all looks fine. There are no obvious splits or breaks in the ribbon although the phone is quite old and has seen some use! The screen works fine at all times.
I cannot do a hard reset on the phone either by typing the number or power on key sequence as the buttons won't work with the slider open far enough to get to the keys. I have tried operating the phone with the front removed but this was not successful as the slider has to be in the exact position described above otherwise the keys won't work at all. I have however reinstalled the firware (version 35.0.001) and this will have done a reset on completion and this hasn't made any difference.
I have a number of questions:
    1. Has anyone seen this problem on the N95 8Gb please?
    2. Any idea if it is likely to be a brake in the ribbon cable? (I would have expected to see a problem with the screen if this was the case though.
    3. Does anyone know if a fault with the ribbon cable would cause the main number keys to stop working too?
    Thanks!

@Stolly: Reason for this is that this boards are the official Nokia discussion sites provided by Nokia. Taking any phone apart voids the warranty. Warranty voiding topics are no-go here even though your phone is 4 years old.
People come here to seek help from Nokia users and there is a great chance that users believe it's okey and recommended to take their phones apart to fix the issues themselvs after reading posts. - In many cases people will make things worse and void their warranty, so when they eventually need to seek help at a Nokia care point, they will find themselv to be rejectet because their warranty is voided.
    Nokia won't support that.

  • Nokia N95 8gb problems - freezing, fuzzy screen et...

Ok so been using the Nokia N95 8gb phone for about a week now and noticed that there is a tendency for the phone to freeze for up to 10 seconds like when opening other things such as Inbox etc. The problems mainly occur when the phone is slid shut, then when resliding the phone open the phone freezes or sometimes screen stays black until battery is taken out!
When the phone is slid shut sometimes the screen goes fuzzy in places aswell like a TV with no reception. The text and theme on the phone sometimes goes a dodgy colour aswell like a negative photo and sometimes even goes back to front and the wrong way round?? Anyone else had similar problems or knows what this is??

Its unlikely to have the same issue after doing a software upgrade, it could be some application on your memory card or the simcard .
You may try the steps below
    - A soft reset by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a hard reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345
Also would be best to reformat your memory card and sim cards well as there might be some applications in there which is causing your phone to lag.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • Nokia N95 8Gb Maps V2.0 problems.

I have had the new Nokia N95 8Gb for just over 2 weeks - I had it from my local Carphone Warehouse in Broughton (near
Chester). The problems I have with Nokia Maps V2.0 are as follows :-
    1. Very slow on calculating a route - I am visiting numerous factory sites around the UK, so I saved the postcodes. On this particular occassion, I wanted to plan a known route home from one of the sites (53 miles), and I was nearly home when it had planned the route.
    2. When a route has been calculated, the cursor showed itself just to the side of the road I was on, thus telling me I was not on a road.
    3. Keeps changing the orientation - from pointing in the diretion I want to go (forward), to the direction I have been (backwards).
    4. Planned road display changes from full width to narrow line - at this point, it no longer knows where it is and tries to recalculate route until the road changes back to full width.
I looked at the various forums (both Nokia and others), and there are many threads reporting the problems I have described above. I tried all of the suggestions including :-
    1. Switching off Assisted GPS - in the Positioning methods - seemed to make no difference.
    2. Use an external GPS receiver - much better in locating position, but still the same problems in reliability detailed above.
    3. Switched off the go online when starting up Nokia Maps - this just made locating position take much longer.
    4. Full hard reset of the phone, twice - no improvement.
    5. Download Nokia Maps V2.0 and re-install - no improvement.
The overriding conclusions from the various forums was that Nokia Maps V2.0 is a backward step and that Nokia Maps V1.2 was so much better. As a consequence, I downloaded Nokia Maps V1.2 and loaded this up. I used it for a 400 mile round trip with no problem at all - directions were clearly displayed, route calculation was quick and it never lost it's position. Unfortunately, I can only use the route planning for 3 days - free test from Nokia when I connected to see licence details. The
only issue I have is that as my car has Bluetooth, I cannot use the voice navigation whilst using Nokia Maps, however, this is not an issue as I just keep checking the screen.
As I am pretty reliant on being able to get to the various sites without complications, there is no way that I will reload Nokia Maps V2.0 until I can be assured of its reliability. Unfortunately, I can not use the route
planning either as my licence relates to Nokia Maps V2.0. What I want is to either transfer my 2 licences to Nokia Maps V1.2, or have a refund for Nokia Maps V2.0 and then purchase licences for Nokia Maps V1.2.
Any assistance would be gratefully received. I have been in contact with Nokia Care who have suggested reloading maps 2.0, however I have already done this. They now suggest updating the phone software, however, it is at v 30.0.018 (pre-loaded) which is the latest version. I am due to take it in to my local Nokia Care Centre tomorrow and let them look at it.

  • Nokia N95 8GB unlock code?

hi i have this nokia n95 8GB i bought from ebay and its got some lock code on it and i dont know what it is, neither does the seller how do i reset the whole phone without needing to have put the lock code in?

Updating the firmware on an N95-2 will reset the security code to 12345.
However, your original query wasn't that clear. Is it the phone's security code you're asking for or the unlock code that allows you to use SIM cards from networks other than the original one the phone was used on (so-called restriction code)? Only the original network can provide the restriction code.
Also make sure that it is in fact a genuine N95-2 that you have. There are countless fakes on sale on eBay.

  • Nokia N95 8GB network unlocking invalid error

    Hello
I have the Nokia N95 8gb, and have had it on vodafone for nearly 18 months. I am changing network, they gave me an unlocking code. I have put this in and get a message "invalid operation"
they warned in their email to me that I should not keep entering tge code as it could lock up entire phone, but have not told me what I can do.
    Can anyone help, Please

If it is like my old N80 you will only get 3 attempts to unlock it, third time will lock the phone completely and make it useless, I tried twice and it failed both times, then not wanting to brick the phone on the third try i took the easier option went to ebay and bought a chip to fit under the sim, worked first time.

  • Nokia n95 8gb CDC COMMS ERROR - FAILED DRIVER INST...

Hi, If anyone could put this demon to rest I would be greatly appreciated.
I have been using my NOKIA N95 8GB for over a year with my computer, that runs Wondows Vista. A few months back I discovered that My phone would no longer connect to the computer in Windows Media Player Sync mode. I then found this was true of all connections except PCSUITE. Even though it does connect in pc suite mode, the computer states that it is installing the drivers for the phone,a nd then opens a little windows in the task tray where it says all the things it is installing. Eventually everything except two things are installed. CDC COMMS, and COM16
If I attach the phone in any other connection other than PCSUITE My phone makes an unhealthy fast usb connection tone, and does not seem to resgister. If i go into Device Manager I can see the computer does realise the phone is there but has a yellow exclamation mark next to it. The phone does not show up in Windows Media Player, or in My Computer as a secondary hardrive as it should.
This problem has now been apparent with two different phones, Vodafone sent me a new product to check if it was the phone itself. I checked the phone on my mum's computer and it seems to work fine, I can install all drivers and The phone registers in pc suite and media player.
its a pain having to go back and forth between my mother's house however so any help would be really appreaciated here. Either write on here or email me at
    Thankyou so much

Since you narrow it down the probllem to your pc/laptop why not have your pc/lapto scan for virus/malware from the net. If the problem still persist then have a clean re- install of the os & do a restore of your backup.

  • Nokia N95 8GB data counter accuracy + T-Mobile (UK...

    Hi.
I have the 10GB per month web 'n' walk max package.
I use the Nokia N95 8GB as a modem for my computer as I do not have a land line.
I reset the Nokia's data counter (uploaded and downloaded totals) on the 1st of each month.
Since T-Mobile changed the service about 3 months ago I receive text warnings when I reach 80% of the fair use policy (i.e. 8GB) and a text if I hit 100% (i.e. 10GB). If I hit 10GB I am told that I will still be able to surf but not download at peak times.
There seems to be a big difference between what T-Mobile claim I have used and what the phone's counter shows. This month, for example, I have received the 80% warning but my phone only shows a total (up & down) of 6.3GB, 1.7GB difference.... quite large I feel! Last month I received a text telling me i had hit 100% but my phone only counted 8GB total.
When I contacted tech support they checked the system and came up with different figures. The 1st system which I believe is the same one customers can access by logging into t-mobile.co.uk and downloading the unbilled data usage figures gave about 8.7GB total. This system until very recently used to crash if you attempted to download the internet usage and had used a few gigs of data... useful. The support person then checked a second system which gave a total of 9GB. However these two different systems are not the ones that generate the warnings and also the cut-off (or rather reduced surfing restriction) texts. So T-Mobile have at least 3 systems.
So I have some obvious issues. T-Mobile have now stated that the data counter in the phone will not be that accurate and will miss some data, implying it is to do with counting compressed data rather than uncompressed. I disagree. The phone counter will surely count all 1s and 0s coming through it regardless of what they are. At this point I made the analogy to my electricity supply... the meter is in my house, that is the device by which I and my provider go by. They do not have a meter at the power station end. They bill me for what comes into my house at my front door and not what is sent out. That is the most accurate method for the customer.
I wonder what Nokia would say if T-Mobile inform customers that their hardware can not add up?
I believe there is a trading standards issue looming here as I do not believe I am getting what I pay for. At best appears to be 90% use. Whilst it is true they do not cut me off entirely if I exceed the 10GB, they are not letting me even reach that point. I seems similar to the current issues surrounding quoted broadband maximum speeds and actual obtainable speeds.
So has anyone had similar problems and disagreements about the fair use policy? Does anyone have any information / ideas about the Nokia data counter accuracy?
I am on the verge of contacting trading standards and any other suitable body about this.
    Many thanks.

    Thanks for replying.
If you are right, and as you say "I'm guessing", your butcher's analogy seems a good one. I know that the full data packet is not just the actual data but has the header attached (which I think can be up to 60 bytes?) but assumed that only the size of the contents would be counted not the wrapping. I wonder if this is what is actually going on. It would seem extremely unfair if it is especially as it can make a good gigaybte or more difference.
T-Mobile do not provide a reliable method to keep an eye on what is being used so what chance do I have? I still come back to my electricity supply analogy which I would say is similar to yours. My electricity supplier doesn't charge me for any electrical losses that occur between my front door and the power station (well not obviously anyway).
T-Mobile don't provide any software if you use the phone as a modem (unlike their web 'n' walk software if you use their USB dongle) and suggest you find software on the net to monitor your usage. However all the software I have tried seems to have limitations as to what type of data it can and can't monitor so is less than accurate and all have crashed at times and lost the running totals. The only accurate tool in my hands seems to be the phone itself.
Surely the customers shouldn't have to worry about transmission specifics, without those the net wouldn't work at all so how can they be charged for? Customers I guess would only want to pay for the actual data they are using. If I download a 1MB file I only want to pay for 1MB. Will the TV license people start charging extra for digital TV as the data is sent in packets?
    Hmmph!
    Thanks.

I guess you have POP/IMAP enabled on the GMail account, so if it still does not work, check the Access point and make sure it is the one that you use for the Incoming messages.
But if everything is OK with settings, you might want to check with the operator. The network might be blocking the ports/protocol. Anyway, most of the operators provide free SMTP server for their clients, so check with them...

  • Nokia N95 8gb: Gallery not showing all pictures

    Recently I became owner of a nokia n95 8gb.
So as a good child made a backup from my old N95-1 by using Ovi Suite
and restored it to the new Nokia n95 8gb
Now when I press the gallery button it shows me only 542 photos from the 1000 I almost have.
Any idea of what's going on here?
    P.S Firmware version is 35.0.001

    NOT WORKING???!!!!
THAT'S VERY BROAD CAN YOU SPECIFY WHAT EXACTLY IS "NOT WORKING??"
    AND CAN YOU STOP SHOUTING?
640K Should be enough for everybody
