Why do I have to go online to use OVI navigation on my n95 8gb. It works on my online sim card but it doesn't work when I use my pay as you go sim card.
Thanks in advance.

You have to go online as you have failed to download any maps  . So phone goeas on line and downloads location maps .

  • Nokia X6-00 16GB - Ovi Maps 3.06 won't install

Currently I'm using Ovia Maps 3.04 but I have an update to 3.06 for this model.
When I try to install this update via Nokia Ovi Suite, the upgrade goes bad with message inducating the update service has an error.
When I manually download the update and double click this in Windows Explorer, the update gets loaded and starts the installation with some preview information. After some time the message 'file not found' appears and then the message 'Instalation successful' apears. When I start Ovi Maps, the version number is still at 3.04
When I copy the installation-file to the Installations folder on the device itself and open this via the menu, the same happens.
After these install I tried restarting the device and recheck for any changes but the 3.04 version still is used.
Uninstalling the current version won't help either. The 3.04 version still resides. The funny this thing is when I try to re-install 3.06 the device replies to overwrite the current version (3.06) with the new version (3.06). This was previously 3.06 over 3.04. It looks like it's installed but the Ovi Maps programs shows 3.04 instead? Got me kinda goofed...
Other updates like Ovi Music 11.4 and Facebook do install successfully. So the device or firmware isn't broken or something. Re-installed 32.0.002 firmware and tries the above again to no avail.
    Some information
    Model: Nokia X6-00 16GB
Firmware 32.0.002 (the lastest for this model)
    Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.0.91
Full battery when trying the above
Connected to pc with provided USB cable
PC -> Windows XP profiessional SP3 with all the updates installed (system and hardware)
What can I do to fix this so I can use version 3.06 from Ovi Maps? Do I need to revert back to Factory settings? (I have a full backup ready to use)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your post is incorrect, because the problem is that the program is installing but not being read, rather it is a system file issue.
As I said, It's happened to me before. I have 3 different versions of 3.06 on my PC and none worked. Only after a hard reset did it work. It happens when you 3.06 gets uninstalled improperly, some file used for recognition remains, and interferes with the system reading the app. No matter how many times you'd try to install, system file associations have already been corrupted. This is akin to installation errors in Windows where reinstalling wont make it work or clean everything out because there are registry fragments left.

  • Nokia N95 connection error

    Hi Guys,
I would appreciate, if someone could help me with Nokia N95’s connection error problem. I have my Nokia n95 from orange. From last two weeks every time I try to make a call, I get an error saying ‘Connection error’. I tried upgrading my phone’s firmware from version 10 to version 11 but in vain.
I tried talking to Orange support staff but they turned out to be clueless.
    cheers...

I've had this randomly on my phone on O2 before. I didn't get it from O2 though.
I've read somewhere in the past this is a common occurrence with all symbian or n-series phones.
But i've been in the middle of a call on my N73 and it fades out and then flashes up "Connection Error" and my mate has had this quite frequently on his Orange N80.
    Hope this helps.
    Owned: Nokia 3510i, Nokia 3120, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6233, Nokia N73, Nokia N82.
    Current: Nokia N900!

  • Nokia N95 Connectivity

After trying for over 3 days, reading so many threads about connectivity problems with the N95 8GB, I still can't get it to connect. I have tried everything. I manually deleted all Nokia/Nseries/N95/PcSuite/ Pc Suite keys from the registry, I have removed all drivers / cable drivers. Bluetooth drivers.
I have reinstalled everything and I still cannot connect.
    My Specs:
Computer Model: HP Pavillion DV2000Z with the HP bluetooth stack.
I can pair the device with HP bluetooth software and send files via "OBEX file send" option. (FTP connection to the N95). However, the N95 Nseries Pc Suite software just wont connect, all connection options are greyed out. I have also tried using a USB cable (from my digital camera, I didn't purchase the extra cable that came with the device) and when connected I selected "PC Suite" on phone it still did not connect. (Windows installed drivers for the cable/phone?, in the device manager it's called: "Wireless Communication devices" and lists 6 drivers:
    1) Nokia N95 8GB USB GENERIC
    2) Nokia N95 8GB USB LCIF
    3) Nokia N95 8GB USB OBEX
    4) Nokia N95 8GB USB OBEX
    5) Nokia N95 8GB USB OBEX
    6) Nokia N95 8GB USB PHONE PARENT.
Any support would be greatly appreciated!

If you're accessing the Internet over your own WLAN and not using your cellco's packet data service, then the cellco has no reason to charge you.

  • Nokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation

Nokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation
Mobile navigation for everyone, the Ovi Maps takes you where you want to be and shows you what you want see, with navigable maps for over 70 countries worldwide. All this with only one click. And it's all free.
    - Free Drive navigation
    - Free Walk navigation
    - Free maps and map updates
    - Free Events guides
    - Free Lonely Planet guides
    - Free Michelin guides
You thought Garmin and TomTom were in trouble when Google announced its free Navigation service? Wait until investors hear Nokia's news.
Reuters is reporting that Nokia will offer free navigation on its smartphones. However, instead of just the US (the current Google limitation sans hacking), Nokia will be demonstrating its reach by offering free turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries and 46 languages - a move that should cover 20 million smartphones globally with Ovi Maps available in over 180 countries.
Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity.
Update 2: Nokia just made the download link live. Hey, where's the N97 and N900.
Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. Drivers receive turn-by-turn voice guidance including lane assistance, traffic information (in 10 countries including the US), and safety camera and speed warnings while pedestrians will be guided on shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones in over 100 cities across the globe. It all works offline too, which should extend battery life and keep that navigation humming even while puttering about in data dead zones without racking up international roaming charges (take that, Google). From March 2010, all new Nokia GPS enabled smartphones will come installed with the new Ovi Maps application and pre-loaded with local country map data and walk and drive navigation with access to location-aware Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost. Additional premium guides like a weather service and events / movies are also included. Just 10 devices from Nokia's massive catalog are available today a list that includes the N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and X6.

To find Ovi Maps for other phones visit Maps Support-http://www.nokia.co.in/get-support-and-software/download-software/maps-support/compatibility-and-dow...
How to install and setup GPS in nokia E-71.
Firstly Install Nokia Ovi Suite (advance version of PC Suite) in your respected computer.
    http://www.nokia.co.in/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite
After installation of Nokia Ovi Suite go to following link
    http://www.nokia.co.in/explore-services/ovi-maps/downloads?intc=ncomexpserv-fw-ilc-lft-con-na-ncomex...
Now install the the second link file into your phone, i.e., "nokia_maps_3.03_10wk11_b04_s60_3.1_rom.Nocs.sis".
After successful installation connect your phone with data cable in PC Suite (DON'T run PC suite application in your system) mode and open Nokia Ovi Suite application in your system.
Now in Nokia Ovi Suite application click on View-Go to-Maps (make sure your system is connected to Internet and your mobile phone key pad doesn't get locked, if keypad autolock period is on switch it off for that moment and your phone is fully charged, now in maps select Asia in that India and download that India Map (103 MB) into your phone.
Please Note that do not disconnect your phone from data cable else maps will not get downloaded and will not to be
    transferred to your phone.
After successful installation of maps into your phone download "Voice Guidance Languages", which ever is preferred by you, if you really want to enjoy it. Like- English(UK)-with street names or in Hindi, Tamil, Urdu.
Now you are almost done, just take your phone into your hand,
Go to Maps then select Options-then Settings
Internet-Connection-Offline ( don't worry your GPS will work fine as data bearer is Nokia which is free of charge, so just relax).
    Navigation-Drive Guidance-Select the desired Voice
Walk Guidance-Select the desired Voice or you can set it to Beeps and Vibrations (if downloaded).
Home Location- define you home location by searching in maps, this will make easier to drive back to home by simply selecting Drive Home option while using navigation.
Now go to option Map-Categories-select the categories you want to be shown on the map.
Its DONE, now search for any desired location press the selection button and then select Drive to or Walk to option and you will be connected to GPS.
Please Note as GPS needs free environment so it may not work in home and generally it takes 10-15 minutes to connect so please be patient.
    Worked perfectly for me
By the way, why doesn't the maps application work if I doenload all the maps instead of only India map??

  • Unable to install any Nokia/Ovi Maps after hard re...

Hi, I made a hard reset to N8 running Symbian Anna 25.07 and I'm unable to install Nokia Maps. Software Updater doesn't show any Maps related updates, I cant find any installer in Nokia Store, installation of Ovi Maps 3.06 and Nokia Maps 3.08 found on the Internet fails as well.

    @wgarczynski
Puzzled here as it was only when N8 released on PR1.0 a year ago that there was NOT a version of Ovi Maps pre-installed in device firmware but v3.04 subsequently added so would be removed by a "hard reset"; if I remember correctly v3.06 is included within Symbian Anna, which should be this version:http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk23_b05_tb9.2_...
Have you tried re-installing existing firmware using standalone Nokia Software Updater? http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/...erSetup_EN.exe

  • Still the same bugs?! (Ovi Maps, N8)

    Hi!
I'm using Ovi maps lately quite a lot but I have some problems with this software, especially with the usability. When searching the net for bugfixes/help I found an older bug report on Nokia BetaLabs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06/bugreport/23781/top-10-bugs-in-ovi-maps-v-3... and my problems are still the same but Ovi Suite says that I have the latest version (v3.06, Map version 0.2.42.122 on N8-00)
    My problems are:
1.) When searching for an accurate address (Street name, No., ZIP, City name) there is no hit for offline navigation, Ovi maps needs an online search. If I leave the house number out the offline navigation finds the street - Why aren't there the house numbers stored for offline navigation? There is mostly no sense in only finding a street but not the accurate address. As long as I only use the navigation inland that isn't a big problem as I have internet connection included in my phone rate - but it's a problem abroad because of high roaming rates ...
2.) So I have always internet connection on Ovi maps - problem is that sometimes when the UMTS-connection is lost (e.g.. in tunnels) there is a pop-up if I want Ovi maps to connect to the internet. If I choose "Yes" there is some seconds later a new pop-up where I need to choose the connection - That's very annoying! I can't find a setting like "always allow Ovi maps to connect to the internet". There is only a setting if I only want offline navigation (which doesn't work, see 1.).
3.) If there is more than one result I can't figure out what is the difference between the results (except the distance) because the exact address isn't scrolling and the results are only like "Country, State, ...." - I don't see the differences because there is only "...".
4.) I can't scroll through the map once the navigation has started. There is only this mode where I can scroll threw the turns/junctions. Sometimes I like to see where the navigation takes me before I start driving, that is hardly possible without a 'free-map-scroll-mode'.
One last point is the search-process: It is more comfortable to have a step-by-step search for the destination like all major satnavs have (TomTom, Garmin, ...) and bigger on-screen-keyboard because with this tiny letters it is quite impossible to add/change the address while driving.

AUTxRemoteC wrote:Now to the points from my first post:
1.) I've downloaded the maps via Ovi Suite on my mobile. Internet connection is only used for the search, but not everytime, it's only some kB but abroad some kB could be very expensive ;-)
2.) Thanks for this hint but everything was/is configured right as you said. This is more or less a general problem of my phone, maybe it has also something to do with my provider. Not only Maps asks regularly for the connection to use, other applications like the AR-Apps Wikitude and LiveView (from BetaLabs) but also some games are doing the same.
    1. Maybe I misunderstand your question but I have no problem with searches right down to numbers in streets with the phone offline i.e the country, town, street, street number is found and the cursor sits over that exact address on the map. Perhaps it is a problem with your country's maps? In the countries I use the geo data is readily available right down to the individually surveyed plots of land in towns and cities (and hence to numbers in streets).
I often find it quicker to do a search for the country first if it is another country you are searching for the address in, then do the city, street number and name search.
    2. I suspect that you have not barred such connections somewhere in the set up of your phone generally or else for for some app, or perhaps, as you have games, etc loaded, one or more of them insists on "phoning home" as some do and as they have opened a connection Maps asks to use it.
That with Maps 3.08 on an N8 but I do not recall any problems on earlier versions either.

  • OVI Maps - Check In

After getting an Update Maps text the other day I installed the new OVI Maps.
When I try to use the CHECK IN function I keep getting the message "There are currently network problems. Please try again later" after clicking Update my position.
Anyone any idea as to why this is happening?
    I have a Nokia X6 on firmware version 30.0.003
    Thanks

I've got exactly the same problem on my E52.
After installing the latest version of software for my phone - 052.003.283.01 - and the latest Ovi Maps - 3.04 - Ovi Maps don't check in - don't work in online mode. All my settings are ok, other aplications can use internet connections - but Ovi Maps appear to be permanently in offline mode (even that "online" mode is set).
Everytime I try to use internet connection in Ovi Maps, I get the same message - though in Polish
    What is going on?

  • STUCK WITHOUT A WAY TO GET OVI MAPS

The other day i wanted to check if there were any map updates on ovi available. I used my Nokia ovi suite version 2.2.1.23 and it said that there was available updates. i clicked update and the suite deleted the old map files and while downloading the new maps it gave me "connection to server timed out". and ever since then each time i try to download maps using the suit it gives me "connection to ovi maps server timed out" and now i am stuck without any maps. Plz someone help help me download a map !!

  • Ovi Maps v3.01 satellite images goes blank!

i have N95, and i downloaded the new Ovi Maps a few days ago. i like to report a few bugs I'm experiencing!
I deleted the entire Cities folder before installing the new Ovi Maps, so it was a clean install.
    anyway,
when i updated my maps for my country by nokia map loader, i use my wifi to download satellite images.
when i use ovi maps, sat. mode the screen goes blank at some parts ( i don't see sat images) just street maps.
but i know i downloaded the images. so i use wifi again to download. same thing happens, screen flikers and goes blank.
One other thing happens often, Ovi Maps just quits, when i pan around for a while!

but i heard other people having a similar problem, thier maps are not saved! or get corupted after a while!
anyway, overall, great new features, and the bookmark sync, is great.
Ovi maps is almost perfect! can't wait for the updated version, i just wish they could integrate Nokia friends view with ovi maps.... just imagine if u can navigate to u'er friend when they are on the move

  • Ovi Maps cannot read postal codes?

I have a big problem with the functionality of Ovi Maps. All my addresses in my address book have postal codes (zip codes). When I click on the address in my Nokia N8 address book Ovi Maps opens but cannot find the address. When I edit the address in Ovi Maps and remove the postal code, then it will find the address. Why can’t Ovi Maps handle (or ignore!) postal codes?

hmmm... do not know what is going on.....
in Germany, i did search with postalcode information on the weekend, but it failed. So i did not use the postalcode and search (offline) was fine.
Now that i found this thread, i did test it again... and the same search-string worked fine.
hmmmm...... do not know what is different now... except that i am now much more far away from the adress i am searching for....

  • Is OVI Maps supported on C2-02 in India?

Nokia India website says OVI Maps is supported on C2-02 in India. I installed OVI Maps using OVI suite and it said maps was successfully installed. However, I cant find the application icon in the phone memory/sd card. I took this to the Nokia Care Center and they said OVI maps is not supported.
Trying to figure out if OVI Maps is supported in India on Nokia C2-02? How do i get OVI Maps on Nokia C2-02?
