If you connect to the internet using your Wifi will it charge on your monthly Bill?
I know cellcos are crooks on the whole, but since when have they been charging us for stuff we're not buying from them?
If you're accessing the Internet over your own WLAN and not using your cellco's packet data service, then the cellco has no reason to charge you.

  • Connecting to the internet via PC Suite / N95 8GB ...

I'm struggling to connect to the internet via PC Suite (v7.1.30.9), using Vista Ultimate SP2, repeatedly getting the error "Failed to connect to the network! One touch access could not connect to the selected device". I've tried different cables, checked for PC Suite updates, updated the phone's software, etc, but all to no avail. (I am able to connect immediately using my N80, so the problem seems to be on the N95 8GB). The rest of the PC Suite connection seems fine. Can anyone help me?

I found a situation where your error message appears. It is the case when the nokia is connected using the data transfer mode and simultaneously the OneTouch Application is started. Then the device is not recognized by the modem software. The PC Suite mode is required for the OneTouch Application.
In my situation I think I already saw all of the possible error messages described in the documentation during the various experiments.
For example I tried to uninstall and reinstall the cable drivers. Unfortunately the driver page of N95 8GB does not include them only the page of N95. This was a step towards success - what concerns the OneTouch Application.
Sometimes it is useful to switch off and on the phone, specially when it is not possible to connect with the modem driver.
In my opinion the possibility of completly uninstalling the Nokia Suite is missing. You can uninstall all parts but after reinstallation the Nokia Phone Browser is no more available, the icon is not displayed. All the software packages are working fine even the modem drivers but not the Phone Browser.

  • E71 Using Nokia Suite to connect to the internet

This may be a Nokia Suite problem but the first time I add my E71, via Bluetooth, to Nokia Suite I can use the phone to connect to the internet successfully.
After I shut my PC down and reboot the connection will not work, Nokia Suite tells be that it "Cannot establish a network connection".
The cure is that every time I wish to use I have to remove the phone from Nokia Suite then add it in again.
This is a laborious process and should be totally unnecessary.
I'm using Windows 7, the laciest version of Nokia Suite, have the latest software on my E71 & all the latest drivers, Bluetooth etc, installed.
In functional terms it seems after that initial use something is not getting 'released' or 'reset' properly.
Nokia please help me why your software is not working.

  • Can't connect to the internet on my Nokia 6700

I could always get onto the intenet to check Facebook, Hotmail etc on my N73 then that went loopy so have treated myself to a 6700 which is lovely but I can't get onto the internet. It goes through to the Orange home page but then when I try to go onto another page..it says sorry unable to connect to orangeworld, please try again later. I called Orange and she said if I can get onto the home page then its not really their problem so to contact Nokia as it could be a phone problem.....im lost as I have no internet connection at home so like to catch up on my phone!! Any help would be appreciated. Sometimes it comes up with the [G] and sometimes the [H]?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
No idea why this happens, but it seems like sometimes the router does not pass on the correct IP address to the computer, so the computer assigns itself the 169.xx.xxx.xx IP address and will not connect to the internet. It can be very frustrating to fix this.
Have you tried connecting anywhere else like at an internet cafe or some place with free wifi? If you cannot connect there, then there may be some problem with the Mac itself. If you can connect everywhere but at home, the issue is more likely to be with your router.
Here is a thread where someone was able to solve this issue:

  • Can no longer connect to the internet with the 580...

Hi, my PC was able to connect to the internet with my 5800 via a USB cable.  Now, I can no longer connect to the internet with the 5800 via a USB cable.
I had never tried connecting the computer to the internet with the 5800 via Bluetooth prior to this incident, so I tried that.  Strangely, it works.
My question is how come I can no longer use the 5800 via USB as a modem, but how come the 5800 via Bluetooth still works as a working modem?
Sorry, if my sentences are confusing.  I have a terrible headache at the moment.  While the Bluetooth connection works, I just feel better using the USB connection and knowing that my 5800 has a clean bill of health.
BTW, my PC is on Windows 7 Professional at the moment.  I've tried uninstalling the Ovi Suite and reinstalling it, but that didn't work.  I've also tried using PC suite instead of the Ovi Suite but that didn't work either.  What other options do I have, beside hard resetting the phone?  Thanks in advance.
Edit: BTW, the message shown when I tried to connect to the internet with the 5800 USB modem was "failed to establish a network connection".
    Solved!

    Hi,
I am so  much tierd by trying to connect my phone to pc.
I have nokia 5800,and I used to connect my phone to PC by USB cable.
But from last 5 days I could not able to connect it.
    The problem is that,
when I connect phone to pc,notification comes up that phone connected via ovi suit, but within  a minute or 2,
"porable device" icon disappears from the task bar in the right hand corner,so connection could not proceed further.
Please help me in this asap.
    I had tried following already:
    1.format my PC
    2.Installed new ovi suit
now please give me a proper solution on that.
    thank you.

  • N8 Automatically Connects to the internet.

    Hi,
My new Nokia N8 automatically connects to the internet. When I open applications that need internet connection it connects without asking. For example if I open Ovi Maps, SW update, or games that use the internet it automatically connects without asking me.
I am using PR 1.2 with the following settings:
Data Use in home Network: Always Ask
Data use when abroad: Always Ask
It never asks me it just connects. This is using my data.
    Thanks

When you first set up N8 did you sign in to Nokia account or did it time out and you chose "Later"
    I chose later
Presumably if you go to Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Destinations > Internet - network access point = Priority1?
My wireless network is number 1. When im not near my wirless network other applications (such as games) automaticly use data.
Try opening your browser > Options > Settings > General > Access point - change to "Ask when needed" and see if makes any difference.
That is the option that I selected. It asks me when I open the browser only. Not other apps.
In OVI Maps top right of screen does it say "Accounts" or "Hello username" tap on this > Nokia account - does it say "sign in" or "sign out"?
    "Accounts", "Sign in"
I found an example of this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOro3mowj1Q
At 11 Seconds "Network Connection" pops up. On my phone it does not. It just connects. Its not just ovi maps its everything.

  • Can a 6300 with no SIM connect to the Internet via...

    Hello,
I have a Nokia 6300 and I would like to be able to connect it via USB lead to my PC and use the PC's internet connection rather than the normal GPRS connection. The hard bit is that I want to do this without having a SIM card in the phone.
I'm aware that the 6300 can do lots of things without the SIM card but I can't seem to get this to work. I can do file transfers etc but cannot connect to the internet.
Does anyone have a suggestions for me?
    Many thanks

  • [E7] Automatic connections to the internet

My E7 is connecting to the internet in regular intervals, although there should be no appearent reason. I am trying to keep all outgoing data connections to a necessary minimum, mainly to maximize the device's standby time. However, I cannot get rid of some automatic connections, thus I have no idea what processes or applications actually trigger them.
My device is set with the following configuration:
    - RSS reader widgets are all removed
    - RSS feeds seem to stay offline according to the update timestamp shown with each feed
    - Widgets are set to offline
    - Social 1.3b is installed, but does not seem to update status since only older status messages are shown
    - mail synchronization is set to manual for all accounts
    - Nokia situation beta was installed, but removed
    - Skype, Nimbuzz and IM+ are installed, but not running
    - WLAN monitoring is off
I have a couple of third-party applications installed as well of which none should be running. Is there any way to monitor the outgoing data connections? I.e. which applications are responsible?
    Any hints are appreciated.
    Robert

Here is the full official FAQ about this, it seems that there are some things in it which have not already been tested here:
Your Symbian^3 device establishes a WLAN connection automatically if there is an application requesting access to the network and you are under the coverage of a WLAN network which is defined in the destination settings of the device.
Usually the applications are connecting through the default Internet destination group. To see what access points you have in this group, select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Destinations > Internet (or some other group, if it has been selected as the default destination).
If the destination group contains both WLAN and cellular access points, the switching between the access points can be controlled with the Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Switch to WLAN setting:
Select Known WLANs only to switch from cellular connection to WLAN connection immediately when the WLAN access point in the destination group is found. You can in this way save in the data costs that may be associated with the cellular data connection.
Select Manual to disable the automatic switching of currently active connection. WLAN access is established only if the user manually takes a WLAN connection in use or after the active cellular network connection is disconnected. Note that the WLAN connection is established automatically in this situation if a new connection is requested and the WLAN access point is the highest priority access point in the destination group.
If you don't want the WLAN connection to be automatically established, you can remove the WLAN access points from the default destination group:
    Select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Destinations > Internet.
Long press the WLAN access point in the list and select Delete or Move to other dest. (if the access point is in use and cannot be edited, switch the device first to Offline profile).
After removing the WLAN access points from the default destination group, the network connection will be established via the cellular connection (if defined in the destination group).
To prevent the automatic data connections to both cellular and WLAN networks, you can disable the automatic connections in the application settings. Depending on the application, this can be done e.g. in the following way:
Home screen widgets: Select Options > Widgets to offline mode.
Email: Select Menu > Applications > Mail > Settings and select Manual or a suitably long retrieval frequency in Retrieval frequency or Sync frequency settings.
Note that any applications running in the background may trigger the network connections to be established. Long press the Menu button to see the currently active applications.

  • Phone unintentionally connects to the internet

Hi, my Nokia C5 is always connecting to the internet for some reason.
I have uninstalled all applications that I had (gmail, opera, mail for exchange) but it still
connects and doesnt close the connection. It sends only small amount of data but it
really **bleep** me off. I checked sync and other automated possible updates with no luck
Is there a way how to check WHAT is connecting? I dont want to reinstall the phone but
    probably will have to.
    I have the latest firmware.
    Thanks a lot!

No, its not under maps. I dont have the same phone so I cant point it out exactly to you. In my phone (5800) its Menu>Settings>Phone>Application Settings>Positioning>Positioning Methods. In your phone it should be somewhere under Menu>Tools>Settings>...Not sure afterwards. Anyway, disable A-GPS and network based positioning and you wont get the connection. However getting a fix will take longer at times. Even reaching times of up to 15min before a fix.

    Welcome to Nokia Discussions, Hamzat_kudus.
The pre-shared key is the password or passkey needed in order for the phone to establish a connection with the Wi-Fi source. This is explained more further on this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-shared_key
To setup Wi-Fi on your phone:
Open the WLAN Wizard and perform a scan.
To start or continue browsing the web using the access point of the WLAN, scroll to the desired network, and select Options > Start web browsing or Cont.web browsing . Enter the password of your router and proceed.
To view the details of the WLAN, select Options > Details . To save the access point of the WLAN, select Options > Define access point .

  • C7-00 connect to the internet

    Hi all
I have Nokia C7-00 and it's operating system is belle with latest updated
    My question is:
Can i configure C7-00 to connect to the internet using hot spot (connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password  PPPoE) via WiFi , and how it's configuration
    thank's

I think this is what you're looking for...
    To configure a
WLAN manually do the following. Press the menu button then tap settings>connectivity>settings>destinations>optio destination. A box will appear type the destination name and then select any icon from the set of icons that is
shown then tap the new destination that you have created then tapoptions>new access point. An option will appear asking whether to "automatically check for available access points" if you are in the range of the WLAN then tap yes or else no. Generally use no. Three options will be provided like WLAN or Packet data or VPN. Tap WLAN then enter the WLAN name then select the Network mode/status three options will be shown. Select infrastructure (public)[usually this is used]. If its an open network then tap open network(no key is needed for this) or else tap WPA/WPA2 then tap pre- shared key and enter the key. This will create the access point. Now tap the access point then options>advanced settings>IPv4 settings. Tap the Phone IP address and enter the number. After this you will be
provided with an option to enter the subnet mask and default gateway. Enter these numbers then tap back. Then tap proxy server number and enter the number that you had entered in the default gateway. Then enter the port number. Then tap back and again back. To use this as the default connection tap options>default connections and select the one that has the WLAN access point as the default one. The IP address and default gateway number and proxy port
number will be provided by the WLAN provider.
    Hope this helps.

  • What do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet

what do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet. i have contacted apple support and they said to change from wep to wpa2 but when i change it to wpa2 and type in password and connect on my laptop it says the saved setting on this computer for the network do not match the require ments of the network

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over.  Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.

  • The wi-fi on my ipod touch is connected but the internett is not working! Help

Soo annoying, it's connected but the internett is not working. I don't know what to type in or what to do, so I need help.

Are you 100% positive you are connected?  Head to Settings - Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected to?  What is listed for an IP address?  If it's in the 169.x.x.x range, it means your iPod did not properly receive a valid IP address via DHCP from your modem/router. So the 169.x.x.x address is a self-assigned one.
This can usually be resolved by a reboot of your router.  You can do this by unplugging it for about 30 seconds.  After it powers back up, try reconnecting it.  It wouldn't hurt to try a reset of your iPod as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • If the wifi on my iPod Touch is on nothing else on the router will connect to the internet

Ever since I updated my iPod Touch 4th Gen to iOS 6, If the wifi on my iPod Touch is on nothing else on the router will connect to the internet..
    It's the weirdest thing.
My Wired and WiFi computers are experiencing DNS errors, unresolved URLs and in general having difficulty connecting to the internet...
That is.... UNTIL I SHUT OFF THE WIFI ON MYiPOD 4th Gen TOUCH!!!
    Then everything works fine.
I've reset my router, several times.
I've reset my Cable Moden, several times.
The problem persists until I disable the WiFi on my iPod

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
