Nokia N95 multimedia key playing up

Hello, I recently purchased a 2nd hand N95 8GB. At first it seemed to work quite finely however after a day or two the multimedia key (that useless key located to the left of directional keys) started playing up by just randomly pressing itself. Most of the time it works normally and then completely at random it will start playing up, entering my music folder and playing songs. I've tried updating to the latest firmware, restoring it to factory setting and erasing everything off of it but to no avail. The key itself isn't physically stuck in any way. I think the phone was originally locked to a network, but it was then unlocked and had Nokia's firmware installed on it. If someone could help get this fixed I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

well I have managed to mod a plug in, so it now see's it however it won't transfer music/photos to it.
Also I notice when I mount it as mass storage it is only usb 1, which is a little slow when you are transfering gb's

    It's a hardware issue, most likely a failed or damaged (drop/shock/moisture) component.
    Take it to a nokia care point for inspection.

    If sweat is the cause as you seem to think then it would suggest a hardware fault rather than software.
    I suggest you take/send your N95 to your nearest Nokia Care Point for evaluation.

  • Multimedia Key for an updated Nokia N73

    My N73 was freshly updated. When you hold the multimedia key down it goes to the music player and now that i restored all my previous data its now going to the visual radio when i hold it down, i dont see any way to change that...

    I agree UKSTAN - R P is so bad at video. For video I no longer use R P, I have started using smart movie on 9500. It comes with a converter. I can convert any of my movies to play on the phone (even full screen ) no jerkiness. real player just can't do that. But I browse the internet with the phone connected to the wi-fi , real player is the only thing that can stream the radio stations. When it works it is v.cool but 9 times out of 10 the real audio is too modern for our old version of real player to cope with. ----------One of the most expensive Nokia phones and we have to use a 5 year old video software.-------------- COME ON ANYBODY IN NOKIA GET US A BETTER REAL PLAYERMessage Edited by bootcdrom on 26-May-2006

  • N95 8gb V20.0.0.16 Multimedia Key not working

    Hi, I think I found a bug!
    make sure the phone is in portrait mode:
    1. press the multimedia key
    2. press it again to exit
    3. Turn the phone to bring it to landscape mode (make sure auto rotate is enabled)
    4. press the multimedia key
    For me the menu does not start. When I switch it back to portrait, the menu still doesn't launch, so I have to restart my phone to get it working again.
    Can anyone verify this?

    Just now i read that post. But that guy(wintomato) post that on 15th of march. So it was not about v20. Because v20 just released few days before. When I used v15 nothing happened like that. Maybe it's depened on particular theme or devices. Like my camera has 2 green spot after v11. But very few pepole has these prob. Good luck

  • N95 Using multimedia keys with other software?

    Some programs require using the landscape mode with both hands so is it possible somehow to use those multimedia keys in other softwares? They seem to not recognize them.
    If not, does someone know any program which could create a mirror button from them? Like you could set the number "3" to do the same action as "play" button.

    Which applications do you mean. Still not quite sure what you want to do.
    I have added additional applications to the Multi-media menu, but you activate it normally via pressing the MM key and then cycling through the menu list.

  • Tastatur multimedia keys, only pause, play does'nt work

    Hi everybody,
    i hope u can help me. My apple tastatur works fine, but the multimedia keys pause, play, next title doenst work - the other keys are working. I reseted and reconnected the tastatur without reason.
    any idea for me?
    thx for help
    Tom

    Hi KalvinKlein,
    before I received your new Info about Fn+Insert , I had once more checked Fn-F7 : no effect in the BIOS.
    I have also tried all non-character keys plus the "Umlaute"-keys on the German keyboard with the following result:
    The key right of the "0" shifts boot device entries down in the list.
    On the German keyboard this key is labelled with " ß ? \ ".
    The next key on the right and left of the "Backward-Erase"-key, labelled with " ´ ` ",
    pressed together with the Shift-key, moves list entries up.
    Using these keys I have then set the Boot device sequence according to your suggestion :
    1: USB CDROM
    2: USB HDD
    3: HDD
    My USB-Memory stick (with BartPE installed) had been recognized as a USB HDD.
    After saving with F10 and <Return> the Netbook responded with a Beep and nothing further happened.
    I had to switch it off with a long press on the Power Button.
    Switched on again, <F2> pressed, BIOS checked,, o.k. <ESC>,
    loads Ramdisk image of BartPE from the USB-stick,
    starts BartPE with XPE.
    Checking available drives in the Windows Explorer resulted in :
    RAMDISK ( "B:" )                (used by BartPE for temporary storage)
    USB ("C:")                         (the USB-stick with the BartPE-iso file)
    "Wechseldatenträger / Removable storage device"           obviously refers to an unused USB-Port
    -volid ("X:") "CD-drive"    but actually another Ramdisk containing the expanded and running BartPE package
    The internal harddisk is not visible !
    I wonder whether this is a problem of the BIOS or whether I require special harddisk drivers (Intel Matrix Storage manager/driver or  possibly AHCP drivers) for Windows XP, because my present BartPE version is based on XP, while the Netbook came with Windows 7 Starter Edition.
    Further helpful hints would very much appreciated.
    Kind regards

  • Nokia N95 Speakers

    Hello there,
    Have a problem with the speakers when playing music on my Nokia N95. I only here the music via the small speaker at the front, not the two at the side. My ringtone on the other hand uses the speakers on the side so it is not a hardware problem.
    Connected my philips SHB 9000 yesterday. With blue tooth connection I can make a telephone call, but when I play music I don't hear anything. When I use the cable connection from headset to telephone I can hear the music.
    Any ideas???
    Greetz, Frogboy

    Try these options one by one:
    1. Turn off your phone, leave your battery and SIM out for 5-10minutes and put everything back in and turn it on .
    2. Restore factory settings: type *#7780# at the standby screen. Enter 12345 for the security code or the one you've changed it to.
    Before you try the next two steps, backup your phone memory using PC Suite.
    3. Soft reset: This will clean up your phone memory. All user data, applications etc stored in the phone memory will be destroyed. Type *#7370#. Enter the security code when prompted; default is 12345.
    4. Hard reset: This is the last resort. Turn off your phone, press and hold down these keys: the call (Green) button, '*', '3'. Turn on your phone without releasing them. Leave the keys only after you see the region selection screen.

  • N70 - Multimedia Key - Fault?

    Hi All,
    I have set the Notes application to the Multimedia Key, which worked for a while, but then stopped.
    This is my second N70 due to o2 blocking my first for some reason only known to themselves. The Multimedia Key on the first didn't work at all - until I was preparing to return it, and I uninstalled all the apps and everything from the Gallery - when I deleted the gallery items, something about an active key flashed up - I didn't really take notice as I was sending it back, but after that happened, the Multimedia Key worked.
    I've tried looking in the Active Keys in the Menu, but it crashes the phone.
    Just wondering whether anyone can help me with this?
    Nokia History: 3110, 5110, 7110, 7110, 3510i, 6210, 6310i, 5210, 6100, 6610, 7250, 7250i, 6650, 6230, 6230i, 6260, N70, N70, 5300, N95, N95, E71, E72
    Android History: HTC Desire, SE Xperia Arc, HTC Sensation, Sensation XE, One X+, Google Nexus 5

    Again O2 are quite good in this respect, my SIM seems to have the ability to add an icon to the any(?) unlocked phones menu system. The icon is just called "O2" If you select this, a warning pops up "allow SIM card to send a message" If you select 'yes', hey presto all your settings are set to you via ~3 SMS messages that self install the settings you mention onto most modern phones.
    So you get all your settings back in ~5 min worked a treat.
    I'm not sure if it is just new SIMs that have this ability?
    as I got an upgraded O2 '3G ready' SIM recently.
    Otherwise you could use this 'operator settings' service provided by Nokia themselves...

  • LoadVars not working on Nokia N95 (US)

    Hi there,
    Each time my FL 2.0 standalone app tries to connect to a
    remote server, the application quits after I selest the WLAN
    connection to use for the connection from the system dialog. Below
    is the code in question. Running on the Device Central emulator
    works fine. Anyone else run into this issue?
    (Note, I've also tried this with Nokia's tutorial app:
    http://www.bysamir.fr/flashlite/nokiadev/Latest_Nokia_Devices.zip
    - same problem)
    Sequence:
    1. Launch SWF as standalone app
    2. Enter text in textField within app
    3. Call loadVars function
    4. System dialog appears asking which WLAN connection to use
    5. Select Access Point (AP) in system dialog
    6. Application quits! ??
    NOTE: I can connect to the AP normally using the web browser
    on the phone, so I know the connection works.
    var myListener:Object = new Object();
    myListener.onKeyDown = function() {
    if (Key.getCode() == ExtendedKey.SOFT1) {
    // Handle left soft keypress event.
    sendText(inputField.text);
    } else if (Key.getCode() == ExtendedKey.SOFT2) {
    // Handle right soft keypress event.
    fscommand2("Quit");
    Key.addListener(myListener);
    function sendText(myText) {
    responseField.text = "sending msg";
    var rvars:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
    rvars.onLoad = function(success:Boolean) {
    if (success) {
    responseField.text=this.msg;
    } else {
    responseField.text = "Failed!";
    var svars:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
    svars.inputMsg = inputField.text;
    svars.sendAndLoad(myURL,rvars,"GET");
    Device: Nokia N95-3 (US Edition)

    Using Sony Ericsson k800i with itunes non-drm tracks and they are playing without any problems. Used itunes agent application to sync phone memory card with itunes smart playlist (filter for "purchased"). Great that I can now use purchased itunes tracks on my ipod and phone!
    Maybe the N95 only supports aac up to a certain bit rate? Or check the file format (m4a?).

  • Nokia n95 8gb problem

    HI i have a nokia n95 8gb and it enters in the gallery without me pressing any button.As soon as i unlock it it enters in the gallery.I can't even take a picture or enter the contacts because it kepps entering in the gallery at images and videoes.I tried updating the soft and resetting the phone but the problem persisted.What should i do?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The only thing I could think of is that the Key that's next to the shutter key, the one that has what looks like a Play key is pressed in.
    This key causes the Gallery to start and show the last picture taken. It may have malfunctioned.
    You would need to take it to a service point or repair technician to take a look at it.
    640K Should be enough for everybody

  • Nokia N95 GPS not loading propaly

    Hi I hope some can help as between NOkia and vodaphone i am going mad I have bought a Nokia N95 phone and last weekend i was playing around with it,I must say my husband has the same phone and has no trouble with.I log onto the maps and littlr yellow lights go back and forth until it is replaced by green ones when it finds the satalite, but then it does nothing,my husbands automatcly homes in to out adress.but my N95 does not, i have asked nokia but to no aviale,they just told me to log on to the maps and it will home in automatacly which it does not has any one else had this trouble.I can manually zoom in with the * and the # keys but it will not do it by itself.My husbands N95 has a picture of a satalite dish in the bottom right hand corner and mine has some thing totally diffrent with the little lights going back and forth, and changing from yellow to green,The other thing i bought the N95 to use as a navagation unit as well as a phone but to my horrow last week just by playing about with it logging on and off and looking at the maps i was charged over £10.00 from my pay as you go balance.I thought it would log on to a satalite and away you go like a tom tom or similair i did not know it had to go through a internet connection can any one enlighten me how it works because i cant see how any one could afford to use it with this kind charge
    Any help would be gratfully recieved

    Hi Purravida,
    You might want to delete the old maps and folders from your memory card - the location of the maps has changed. Nokia Map Loader 1.2.1 seems to be downloading the maps to the old directory system if it exists but your software on the phone will be looking at the new directory and will try to load the maps over the data connection.
    I had to delete the hidden Private directory and all of its contents to get the Nokia Map Loader to recognise that there is a new directory structure on my memory card. It could have been something else, but that fixed my problem of the new Nokia Maps not finding the downloaded maps (and trying to download them over the data connection.) Be sure to make a backup that you don't delete anything you would need...
