  • N95 Sat Nav help

    Hi
I am not sure if this has a really simple answer (ie pay for it) but downloaded the UK map last week and have tried ever since to start using the Sat Nav.
What ever I tried it just didn't get a GPS signal... Next I tried using my separate GPS receiver and blue toothing it to my N95. It paired perfectly but still no GPS signal received.
Is this because the guys at Nokia want more of my hard earned cash for using Sat Nav?
    Any help appreciated.
    A.

    Hi adrianwalsh
You only need to pay if you want "voice navigation"
Go outside hold phone with keypad slider open at 45 degrees, don't cover the "#" key as GPS antenna is below this. you need view of clear sky away from buildings and trees.
I suggest you open GPS data application to monitor situation.
Go to Menu > Tools > Settings > GPS data > Position > Open > Options > Satellite status > Open:
You will see 5 empty rectangle outlines, you need a minimum of three solid black rectangles for triangulation, but usually get four for lock-on postion.
If you don't get any solid bars by 20 mins your GPS isn't working!
Start Maps on N95 and get satellite lock-on (RED CROSS on satellite icon bottom right disappears) location is then saved on closing application (get message above globe on screen)

  • N95 sat nav

O.K. I might be thick but I'm about to get a n95 do you need to conect to internet to use or is it completly on the phone ? If I go for a 3rd party satnav will it still use internal gps //
    Many thanks,Pete.

GPS dont need network as long as you already got the maps on your mem.card.
Network helps you to download additional map data and establish a faster and more stabil satelite fix.
We´re talking a few kb of data...
Internal GPS works with other apps!

  • Sat nav software on nokia 7373

hi does any1 know if there are any sat nav software that will work on nokia 7373.
There are the normal ones for nokia n95 and so on but would any1 of them work on 7373.
    thanks

    Hi nm_coolj
You could try nav4all.com - whilst software is free until 2008, there is cost of GPRS data download to factor in!

  • N95 8GB - Pay to use sat nav?!

Am I missing something? I paid a fair wedge for my N95 8GB, and one of the things that attracted me to it was the built in sat nav.
Today I go to use it properly for the first time and find that I have to pay to activate one of the most obvious functions, namely the navigation to a destination!! Not only that, but this cost is only for a limited time period then I have to pay again!
I really hope I'm missing the point and someone can tell me what I'm missing, or guide me to an alternative app I can install?
    Thanks

    Couldn't agree more my man.
Well.... Being a Moto / SE fan myself...
Against my better judgment - I let my wife buy an N95. One of the major selling points (To her) was the built-in GPS.
I'm sorry - But I have a problem shelling out a grand on a phone, then to be politely informed that it will cost a further $100 per year to use the navigation system. (In Aust.)
Without the $100 a year subcription - the GPS is useless! (I'm sorry Jericho - but if the thing can't tell you how to get from A to B - Then it's NOT a navigation system)
And PER YEAR? So do we get a different voice every 12 months?
Will work better in 5 years time? (After all it will be a $500 investment by then)
THEN - my mate goes and buys the far cheaper (and theoretically lower spec 6110 Nav) - guess what? Route-66 included - WITH voice guided navigation out of the box? No extra charge to you sir...
What am I missing here NOKIA? Did I just buy the more expensive phone to get shafted harder?
Yes I know I can go and buy route 66 or Garmin XT - But when I can purchase a navteq based handheld for $170 (I have one in front of me) - where is the justification?

  • Connecting N95 to Sat Nav???

I bought a sat nav (Navman) and i am unable to find it when i search to pair devices on my n95. both bluetooths are swithched on but unable to find
    Anybody any suggestions
    many thanks

If NAVMAN hasn't changed, they're a bit of a problematic device with Nokia phones, because NAVMAN uses a Bluetooth pairing code of "NAVMAN" (all letters) and Nokia phones only support Bluetooth pairing codes that are all numbers (digits).
If you need an external Bluetooth GPS receiver with your N95, then return (or sell) the NAVMAN and buy some other manufacturer's GPS receiver, instead.

  • Free sat nav on Nokia E72 for life

I have the Nokia E72 which apparently comes with free sat nav for life. However, I cannot get this to work and the manual is not helpful in any shape or form......Any ideas as to how I activate this free device ??????

    Hi GillRogers
OvI Maps application is built into your phone firmware although it won't be the latest v3.04 version from here:http://maps.nokia.com/services-and-apps/ovi-maps/free-downloads#/nokia-e72/
You do however need to install OVI Suite on your PC to enable you to download regional maps, although you need a microSD memory card and you must run OVI Maps application at least once with memory card in place; you also need to download chosen voice files for "voice navigation" to work.
A User Guide is available here:http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/guides/Maps_3_0_UG_SR1_1_No_Touch_EN.pdf

  • N95 Buying Sat Nav: Error with credit card payment

I'm trying to buy Sat Nav for my N95, but when I submit my credit card number I get the following message:
    Error
    Credit card payment failed.
    Please try again. (Error 3).
I have tried about 6 times now. What's going wrong?
My credit card is in daily use elsewhere; and, yes, I always pay my bills on-time and in-full!
    Thanks.

Sorry if the option isn't there, I'm with Vodafone UK, it may be airtime supplier specific, but there are afew things I have te option to add payment to my phone contract, sorry if my suggestion is unavailable to you !

  • Nokia N95 and Route 66

    Hi Guys!
Does anyone know if N95 is compartable with Route 66?
I currently use Route 66 on my 3230 and it works Great! It is even beter (to my taste anyway) then Tom Tom 910. I want to upgrade to Nokia 95 but find (by reading reviews) its sat nav beeng not that straight forward and also costly.
...my current network O2 told me that N95 is not compartable with Route66 ???
    Many Thanks,
    Kate

nokia was very clever when they released the N95...
To enable other companies to use the built in GPS chip nokia would need to release the SDK's needed to implement the programs to use the chip... but they only released it to these companies days after the general release of the handset!
The reason??? Well think. Nokia by th company who supply the map software... are then slow to release the needed SDK's to the rival companies meaning most ppl just by a year or so's subscription to Nokia's own software, thus making Nokia even more money from every phone sold!
They arent the biggest mobile phone company for no reason!

  • HELP!! Nokia N95 restarting !! and more!!

    Okay
im now on my 3rd Nokia N95 from the 02 network
the first 2 handsets had high pitch whining noise and awful sliders which were wobbling on the right hand side, appaulling workmanship, i dont even know how they were allowed to leave the Nokia Factory like this!
maybe the workers were all drunk or something?
it isnt only me thats complained of these faults, check all the other forums about the N95!
anyway, my 3rd handset has been working ok
    (or so i thought)
everything was working fine, no wobbly slider, no whiny noise..
but about 3 - 4 times per day as of 3 days ago, the phone just restarts itself when its just sat there!!!
WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING ?
have i now got to sent this **bleep** handset back aswell?
i dont want to drive 20 miles to nearest Nokia Service Centre, WHY should i ????
i also left my house this morning at 5.30am to take a friend to the Airport, the phone was unplugged from the Charger with full battery life, i used sat nav to get there and back, its now 9.35am and i have 2 bars left on te battery life!!
truly appauling if you ask me
will new firmware sort the resarting and battery life?
or do i have to just give up on this handset and buy another model by another Manufacturer?
im at my wits end with these N95`s

I saw some build quality issues highlighted on a review: you'd think they'd at least check phones that were going to reviewers!

That's a typical problem for a newly released N-series. Unfortunately, this is only likely to be fixed by a firmware upgrade. Check you have the latest version. If you do: you're fresh out of luck .. for a while.

That's no surprise at all: when you use the GPS the phone is working all the time. It's kinda like you made a 4 hour (or however long the trips were) phone call. The surprise is that you have any battery left at all!
When I use my N80 for navigation, I usually have either the phone or the GPS receiver on charge virtually all the time.
It's probably no consolation right now, but most of us who bought phones soon after their release have gone through very similar teething problems and we know how hideously frustrating they are. The good news is that if you do hold out, the 2nd or 3rd firmware release normally fixes the worst of the problems and you do finally get that awesome phone you thought you'd bought.

  • Maps on Nokia N95

    Hello,
I was just wondering(currently waiting for my N95 to arrive) does the phone come with the maps for sat nav already loaded and ready?
    Cheers,
    Carl

    Hi Carl :
Let tell something from my experience
    Do not download anything
Just start the maps and wait till your phone establishes a connection with a sattelite , when its done it automatically downloads the map of the area where you are and it happenned with me and i was able to plan the route to the place i want and follow the instructions . It's more than enough .
Do not use the option navigate otherwise you'll be directed to sites to download maps which are not free .
if the voice instructions did not work you might need to download voice files for free using MapLoader V1.1 , you can find it here http://europe.nokia.com/A4353385
By the way if you go to Smart2Go you'll find the same software MapLoaderV1.1 with some lies that maps for more 150 cuntries are available for free actually they are 77 maps only and it's the same MapLoader available in NOKIA site , and downloading maps is free , you can use the maps to plan routes for free also .
    Hope this helps

  • Free Nokia MAPS with Nokia N95

    Hello,
I have a Nokia N95 device and I wood like to know if it's possible to use the free walk or drive feature with Nokia MAPS on this device
    Thanks for answer

When they say voice navigation they actually mean navigation to include voice navigation, so you have to pay to use your phone for navigation. However, unlike other sat navs where you have to pay for map updates, with Nokia Maps, all map updates are free for as long as your license is valid.

  • TEXT TO NUVI SAT NAV

nuvi 310d unable to use text function with my nokia n73, use a nokia 6230i no problem nuvi sat nav texts to it via bluetooth. what needs to be downloaded to n73 for same text ability anyone any ideas....apart from a new phone

I am interested to find another Nokia user with an almost identical problem. I have recently replaced my old Nokia 6310i with a 6300 and have lost text capability via bluetooth with my Nuvi310. A serious handicap.

  • 3rd party sat nav for e51

i am looking for a 3rd party sat nav that is compatible with my e51, i understand that i need an external receiver but am not sure which one would be the best for my phone?
ideally the mapping of the sat nav would be topographical as well as street mapping to maximise its use.
any ideas outhere would be appreciated.

    Hi mal5336
An indication of your worldwide location may help in choice of application here as some providers maps are better for particular regions. Nokia do produce two external Bluetooth GPS receivers LD-3W and LD-4W but cheaper alternatives are available, but it would be an idea to try before you buy as software updates to Nokia devices have been known in the past to introduce compatibility issues unfortunately.
