Nokia N96 general error

hi there,
wondering if any of the wizz kids on here have encountered this error, I have a few MMS messages on the N96 that I am trying to get rid of, I have the photos saved elsewhere but every time I go to delete the actual message I get the following error.
"General: Already in use!"
and it won't let me delete them...now, I am hoping to sell the phone and I really don't want the senders name being left in the my message inbox, the messages can't be opened but the name of the sender still appears.
I just spent 90mins on the phone to Nokia care and we re-updated the phone and still they appeared. anyone have any clues?

I dunno who you are but you just saved my balls! happy new year too you, thank you so much!

  • Nokia N96- "System Error" Message

Every time I want to access the clock eith through the short cut key or the menu I am having the "System error message". I have been advised by technical support to reformat the phone but still having the error. Before sending it back for repair, is there anything else I should try? Thanks in advance for your help.

I think people here would also have advised you to reformat the phone. If you tried that to no avail then I suggest you take the phone in to your nearest Nokia Care Point.

  • N96 general system error

I have an n96-1 on software version 10.065 custom version 10.065.249.1 all was working fine, I put music on the internal memory card, that worked fine. then I brought a memory card and put it in, Now when i try to play music i get a general system error message, take the card out reset the phone it all plays fine, Any idea?

For me the same error message showed. But I uninstalled the phone remote control thing (do not remember its name). I mean the program wich lets you take control over your phone from the internet. That caused trouble but music started playing well immediately after I just removed that silly program from my phone's mass storage memory!

  • Installation 'General Error' Nokia 5230

I cannot install the latest Ovi Maps on my Nokia 5230 as each time the installation fails with 'General Error' as the message. On clicking the blue i-button it merely says the error has occurred and instructs to try to install again. I have tried repeatedly.
The phone memory shows 12mb free.
Can anyone tell me what to do to achieve installation please?

cam some one tell me how to like refresh my phone??? like should i restore factory settings and then c if it worx??? i do have backup files....
Factory settings reset - Type *#7780# and the phone's lock code (Nokia default lock code is 12345). This reset restores the phone's original settings.
Soft reset/reformat - Type *#7370# and the phone's lock code.
    Warning!Soft reset wipes your C drive/phone memory!
Hard reset - Switch the phone off. Press and hold three keys together, the green key, the * key and the number '3'. While you are holding these keys, switch the phone on. Don't release these three keys before you see the NOKIA logo.
Warning! Hard reset (as soft reset does) wipes the C (phone memory) drive.
Hard reset for 5800; Press and hold green + red + multimedia button and turn the phone on at the same time.
Hard reset for N97; Press shift + space + delete and turn the phone on at the same time. Don't let the three keys before you see the NOKIA logo.
Hard reset for other S60v5 phones; press green + red + camera key and turn the phone on at the same time.

  • Nokia 5800 XM Music General Error

    Hey,
    This is getting really frustrating.
I bought this blue nokia 5800 XM in January (Australia), and in the past month its been giving me trouble.
    Okay, right now: Running v50.xx
My phone is having a 'general error' when I try and play music in the music player.
Only when I find songs via the file manager I can play them..One at a time.
This is the second time within a week that its done this!
The first time I googled around and found I had to 'hard-reset' then clear my memory card of bad sectors.
    Done that, it fixed..Until now....
This isn't the only problem, at the start of the month my stupid phone would restart itself just for fun, and the alarm doesn't function properly (when I touch/slide to 'snooze' or 'stop' it doesn't respond until a minute later) And the memory card has wiped itself before aswell
I reformatted the entire phone and memory, clean install of firmware and everything but still I get problems?
    Why?
Think I'll go back to my old SE w910i it was much better..No problems with it ever (even after I dropped the battery in water)
BTW I think I should have 1yr nokia warranty (does it cover first year from purchase?), but then again all they'll tell me to do is wait my time every week re-formatting the phone...
    PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!

You've done about all you can, I could suggest replacing the memory card and the sim, but this is unlikely to solve any 'physical' problem. If the phone is less than a year old take it to a Nokia Care Point and insist it is repaired/replaced, or contact Nokia direct. The 5800 is generally stable and performs well, but I wouldn't leave it to run out of warranty, there is a good chance the phone would be replaced.
    Good Luck

  • How to delete an image from bluetooth in Nokia N96...

I am using Nokia N96. I received some images from a freidn via bluetooth and i have transfered them to my PC. I need to delete the images in my Nokia phone but it seems not working. Please advice me how to delete these images? coz teh Option DELETE is not working here.
     Thanks a lot!

    hi El_Loco
I received the images via bluetooth. Then I connect my Nokia N96 to my PC at home. I cut and pasted the images from the mobile folder to my PC. (If I cut and paste, by right the images should have been gone from the mobile phone memory..is that correct?) However, after I disconnect my Nokia from my PC, the images are still in my Inbox folder.
The wierd thing is: The name of teh file is still there, but I cannot open them, and when I tried to delete them, there is a message:                             General: Already in use !
So..it looks like because I cut and pasted from my PC, there was some errors in the Nokia phone? The file names are there, but I can no longer open them and nor delete them.

I changed the Sim, reflashed, clear device... but it doesn't work.
I bought my N900 from Nokia online store, in UK, free sim.
Finally, I searched on Google, lots of people have the same problem like me, one could fix it but I can't contact him, the rest couldn't.
    Anybody can help me please?
if a reflash didn't fix than i think this might be a hardware problem, try searching at http://talk.maemo.org/ first than look for the nearest nokia care center .

  • Help - Nokia N96 Problems

I hope someone can help me out here.
I have had the Nokia N96 as part of an 18 month contract on O2 UK since April and ever since i've had the phone, I've had nothing but problems with it and i'm really am up to the point where I'm so fed up with it, I'm taking my other phone on PAYG with me everywhere I go.
I find the N96 is extremely slow at loading up messages, it's sometimes slow at keeping up with your texting, it has 3 times this year deleted every message in inbox, drafts & sent after the phone has been switched off. It's also restarted itself on a number of occassions.
Today, my phone went flat because I hadn't charged it up and so when I got home, I put it on charge and turned the phone on so I could check my messages. The annoying thing is, the home screen wouldn't load up the icons or the text for 'Messaging' and 'BBC iPlayer' so I went to the menu (as you would) and selected 'Messaging'.
"Messaging: Already in use" is the error I get. Clearly, it's not in use, so I took the phone off charge, removed battery etc etc. Still same problem, done a firmware update, still same problem, reset the phone, still the same problem.
I can not find a solution for this, really in a foul mood because of this as I am unable to send messages or view messages on my phone.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

have you the correct message centre number
try the following codes then try update firmware
rad 24 for cred on the codes
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work.
1.. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345.
2.*#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
    3. hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.
    Now using the Lumia 1520

  • N96 certificate errors

    Hi all,
Apologies if this is in the wrong part of the site, brand new to this forum.
I've just received my nokia n96. I've tried to install a few programs downloaded from legit websites and I keep getting alot of 'Certificate error - contact application supplier' errors.
I've seen a couple of things about hacking the phones firmware and stuff but no clear concise solution.
Can anyone on here help me?

    craigkilner1986 wrote:
    Thanks,
I've have messaged the author of the app and found another version which is currently being signed so fingers crossed it will work.
I'm seeing alot of forums suggesting the need to hack the phone in order to get most of the apps working. Why can the phone not just accept software?!?!?
Frustrating when you want to install something and such things as stupid as certificates won't let you.
You don't need to hack a phone to get "most" apps working.  It might be most of the ones that certain people have tried, or it might be that people only notice the installations that cause problems, or it might be that very old apps have expired certificates, but most new apps should install correctly on phones with which they are officially compatible. Most new apps should also have much longer certificates than they used to (10+ years instead of 2 years), so the expired certificate problem should go away.
Some people have to hack phones to use apps which aren't officially compatible, but what do you expect if an app is being put onto a phone which it wasn't written for?
The reason there are certificates is to stop malware.
Malware on phones can be potentially a lot more troublesome than malware on computers, because almost all phones have a SIM card which effectively works as a credit card. That would in theory allow malware to basically steal money from you through your phone bill by connecting to premium or foreign numbers, possibly without you noticing. There's other stuff malware can do too.
Some people will say certificates aren't the best answer to preventing malware, and that's an area of big debate, but I'm just explaining why there are certificates.
