Nokia N97 Contacts search FAILURE

Am I the only one who
is totally disappointed by Nokia? Isn’t this mobile meant for making calls in
the first place? Whenever I enter to contacts and when I want to search for a
contact between my at least 400 contacts, it is useless to use the fast scroll
or kinetic scroll. The search is useless as well as it offers a totally weird keyboard,
it is not even QWERTY or numerical. If only nokia would make the keyboard QWERTY
or like the numerical on regular phones. When you want to write a sms with numerical
keyboard it is fine, but no numerical keyboard or QWERTY in contacts is a SHAME
and DISGRACE. The phone is useless this way.

depend on how it's stored
when you connect your iphone to your computer and open your itunes on the computer
and click on the iphone under devices and get the iphone content menu you can
click on the info tab on the content menu
there you can choose how you will be syncronizing contacts to your iphone
if what you mean by "is stored in windows vista" is avaible in the dropdownbox then choose
that otherwise you need to export the contacts from the "stored by windows vista" to an options
present in the dropdownbox
the most easy thing would be using an export to pst and import from pst in microsoft outlook as it is pretty compabile with many things

Nokia N97 Contact sync Problems 83930001

Hey
I have problems after hard resetting my nokia N97, it won't sync my contacts anymore. I have the latest ovisuite 3.0.0.290 and Nokia N97 software 22.0.110. It constantly gives the error 8393001.
I even tried to reinstal my Nokia N97 software but then during the instal I get a 12042 Error. So I'm in sort of a loop.
I hope some one has the solution.

I guess the installation of Ovi Suite is corrupted, please follow the steps provided below to assist you in this regard
Step 1
- Go to Progam and Features/Add Remove in Control Panel
- Click Ovi Suite
- Click Repair.
Once repair is completed then please restart computer and check.
If Step 1 didnt work, then try the below step
Step2
-Go to Progam and Features/Add Remove in Control Panel
- Click Ovi Suite
- Click Uninstall
Also uninstall the following f
- Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
- PC connectivity Solution
Then right click my computer, click manage.
- Device Manager-Ports- If you find anything by name Nokia please unistall ( Dont remove anything else)
Then reinstall windows Installer from the link provided below
For Windows Vista and Windows 7

- Then restart computer.
- Download and install Ovi Suite

- Once done then lauch Ovi Suite.
- Check for the issue

Nokia 5800 contacts search problem after phone swi...

Recently bought a new 5800. Used Phone Switch to retrieve contacts from older Nokia, seemed to work ok.
The problem is that ALL NEW contacts added to 5800 memory appear BELOW the contacts list (not sorted) AND cannot be found via contact search. This is very annoying. How can this be fixed?

It sometimes does this.
Unlock the phone, go into the messaging and come back out again.
The "new message" notification should stop now.

Nokia 206 contacts search & arrangement problem

I have bought a Nokia206 last week & I am facing a problem with contacts. When I inserted the sim card, it showed all the contacts alphabetically arranged & we can search any of the contacts among all..
But after few minutes the contacts were all shuffled & were not present alphabetically. Moreover, I can't search any of the contacts. Whenever I restart my phone, the contacts are rearranged automatically for few minutes, but later on the same problem arises.
I reported this problem to Nokia Care in my city(Jalandhar) & they installed a New Software in my Nokia206, but the problem is still there in the phone. All the contacts are present without any order & I can't search any of the contacts from them.
I request you to tell me a permanent solution regarding this problem as soon as possible.

Last week a new SW version appeared for a short time on the Nokia Server...Then Nokia withdrew it with no explanation.

One of the first question that was asked when this new SW appeared was.."Has the search function been improved?"
The answer was.."no change!"
One might hope that when the new SW is release it will address this weakness.
I have to admit that I do not know whether the obvious shotcomings in the "search facities" is a resultof Symbian s 60.3 short coming or Nokia SW design..or a combination of the two.
Nokia produced this application but in my opinion it only helps a bit and is not a full solution.

Nokia 2630 contact search is case sensitive... is ...

I have a Nokia 2630 since last summer and I find it really annoying that I need to manually toggle between upper-case (for the first character) and lower-case (for the rest of the word) when typing a search in the contacts. Do you know if there is a way of avoiding this? I know that it would work if all my contacts were written in upper-case but that is not the case (and don't want to change that) moreover when the standard entry for a new contact automatically toggles the first letter in capital and the rest in lower-case....

Nokia 701 Contact Search Problem

I recently formatted my Nokia 701 using code *#0000#
Now when I search for a contact in the search list, it uses the regular keypad (as used during message typing) Instead of the alphabetic keys..

To turn the keypad into qwerty keypad, follow these steps:
Go to Settings>Phone>Language>Writing Language>tap on the language that has a check mark on it (example: English)>Input style for portrait>Qwerty

Nokia 2730 Contact search problem

Nokia 2730, having trouble searching for contacts, it will only let me search by their first name, anything else is irrelivant.
ie; if I have a contact called 'Bob Smith' and I search for 'Smith' it will not show up.
I think I need this function as I am constantly sending group for organising sporting teams.
I believe I have the lastest software in the phone, brand new out of the box I used Nokia Ovi Suite to try and update it, it said there were no updates available.

In case of S40 phones.. under Contacts settings-->Name display..If 'Last Name First' is selected..then the search is on LAST NAME..but yes, with a corresponding setting it will either search on First Name or Last Name at one time and not have the search functionality of an S60..
@wigwam - Can you explain your problem a bit more ? What comes up when you type 'M' ?..and is it a One Off issue or happens with search for any other contact (e.g. you have a contact called Jimmy and when you type 'J' it doesn't bring his name up)?

Anyone know how to fix this problem.

This problem is ALWAYS caused by multiple entries, as Fender says, you have the same number with several names so phone doesn't know who is calling and just shows number, or you also need to check memory in use in contacts, if you are using more than one source ie phone memory and sim, you will also get conflict. Check your contacts and set phone contacts in use to only one source ! Just phone memory or just sim. There are many posts on this subject, just use user search, it's always the same solution

Add contact detail to a message Nokia N97 Mini

Hi, I bought a Nokia N97 Mini in January, and I still can't resolve this problem: I don't know how to add a contact detail to the body of any text message. I have had several Nokia phones, for years, and I remember that if you wanted to send a text message, lets say to a friend and this friend asked you for someone else's phone number in order to send it you just start a new message> insert content> contact detail, then you just chose the contact you'd like to send the phone number of and that's it. Now, I can't figure out how to do it with my new phone. Sorry if I sound silly, it's just that I don't know where else to look for. Thnx!

I beleive you are using MS Outlook.
Try the following workaround.
Manual sync
Open Nokia Ovi Suite--> Sync--> Sync option--> Uncheck the sync automatically everytime you connect the device.
Then Sync--> Sync now--> Contact,
Repair the "pst" and the "ost" Outlook files as in the following location.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANPST.EXE
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANOST.EXE
Right click the above mentioned exe file and 'Run' it.
NOTE
It's adviced to take a back- up of the user's Outlook folders to avoid any loss of information.
Check with Microsoft support pages for more information.

Nokia c7 "Smart Dial" or "Contact Search" on Dial ...

Anyone out there? Who can help.... Desperately need help on this.
You know on the dial screen you start hitting the numbers and your Nokia will find the best matching contacts... called the "Smart dial" or "Contacts Search"... My C7 doesn't have that feature.
I have looked at the manual and it says, click options>contact search>off/on ....
Well I don't have such an option in anywhere.
This is really annoying me, I love this feature and that is the only way I am going to manage my 500+ contacts.

I have that feature on my C7-00. Y-day I also updated my phone app to the latest version and the feature is still there. Pressing OPTIONS on the call screen lets me select the Contact Search ON/OFF.

Contact Search on nokia E7

Didn't realised it after a few days that my E7 doesnt have a contact search.
I tried the user guide, the onboard help and followed the instruction to the letter.
"In the home screen, open the keyboard, and start entering the contact's first or second
name. You can also search by company name."
I tried that and there is nothing. Tried searching all my menus, options and settings yet I cannot find the elusive contact search

To do a contact search without having the contacts shortcut on your homescreen, press call and start typing the contacts name 3283 will produce all the DAVE contacts on your phone, as an alternative tap the icon in the bottom right corner and you are taken into a contacts list which you can scroll through or search. As another alternative use the 'favourite contacts' widget on homescreen and load your favourite contacts to it and swipe through them to find the person you want to call.
As a further alternative, usr the search widget on a homescreen and type in the name you want to find and search my content.
Appologies if this doesn't answer your question as these are the only methods for finding a contact on the E7 that I have discovered so far, hope this helps

How to synchonize with Nokia N97?

We are using Groupwise 7 and our boss have a Nokia N97 mobile phone. We want to synchonize the calendar and contact. What software component do we need? Are they free of charge or do we need to buy something?
p.s. the Nokia N97 is use the new os, it is S60 Ver 5.

Nokia N97 -UNLOCKED from 3G.

Hiya folks!
Have recently purchased and unlocked a Nokia N97, now using o2 it basically doesn't want to do anything more than normal For example; if i try using Wifi, apps, it trys to do something via 3g but can't then even do that? Any ideas? Plus, as unlocked, if i ever did a hard reset or factrory restore, would it revert back to 3g?? I've SMS/WAP settings from o2 but still need 'something'?????

The phone is obviously not 'unlocked' it's just not contract. If you gointo connectivity, and delete all your Destinations then search for new, it should find O2 and work ok. You should also be able to contact O2 to txt some configuration settings to help you out !

Nokia n97 camera lens/ can i return it to the stor...

i just my nokia n97 a few weeks ago and my camera lens is getting scratched because of the camera cover. i searched the site and many people said its a hardware problem, will care centre be able to fix it, or can i go back to the store where i have bought it on a contract and return it for another fone eg. HTC magic.

The lens shutter on a camera is supposed to protect the lens, that why its there. However, in this case the N97, it has a design fault, and as such the shutter is not fit for purpose.
Now, if the shop are unwilling to exchange the device for a device without the flaw demand a refund of your money. If they still refuse to do anything then contact your local trading standards, you will be able to find their address or phone number from the link below.
Its the shops responsiblity to sort this out so don't let them tell you otherwise.
