Nokia n97 gps help

I am having a problem with using the gps. I tried uning the address sreach and it keeps saying no result found. Can someone help me out.

I was gonna start by saying that maybe the address is so new its not listed yet, but It appears that nokia maps doesn't search the addresses very well. I tried to search addresses after reading this post, and it can't seem to find any.
Places it does fine, and navigating it does fine if you pre-mark your destination manually by physically scrolling the map.
I suggest using google maps which does this job fine. The one disadvantage with google maps is it doesn't read out instructions, or make use of the compass feature like nokia maps does.
I never tried the traffic function in nokia maps because i was too stingey to pay the fee, but google does have this as standard, but only for major routes such as motorways (uk anyway).
The weird thing though, this is what I dont get, if you walk along using nokia maps, it gives you the exact address with house number, so must be a bug in the way it does searches, coz it seems all there datawise.

Hi Fellas,
I need someone to pull me out of misery please, I bought my N97 three months ago, to-date my GPS is not functioning while I am driving my car, it drops totally the signal while driving. The funny thing which makes me go crazy is that, the signal picks up again when I fully open my windows or when my sunroof is open, everybody knows that in the UAE we are unlikely to open car windows due the climate.
I have handed over my device to Nokia service centre in Abu Dhabi, received a call back after 10 days to say “we could not fix your device we had to replace it” I was happy when said so, but when tried again, guess what! SAME CONDEMNED PROBLEM this obviously gives me an indication that Nokia could not figure out reason behind this awful reception.
Gentlemen, honestly I feel like I dumped my money in waste bin as my best part of cell phones is the GPS tool.
Any advise! Please

LOL, most bluetooth external receivers have optional external antenna kits anway. It would avoid the OP having a big leak in his tent.

Nokia 5530 GPS Help!

ive been having trouble using my GPS on my mobile, it says i can use network for the GPS rather than Bluetooth, so when i try and connect it says " Enable a satalite positioning method first" even though i clicked on Positiong Methods > Network Based (i cannot edit the settings for this), can anyone help with this?
also is there a google map mobile or Ovi map mobile avalible?
any answers would be great!

Ovi Maps requires on a GPS receiver, be it built in or external. It does have the ability to use AGPS (internet) to speed up position fix if your phone supports AGPS, which incidentally the 5530 doesn't.
Regarding setting up Hotmail, have a look at the link below. It is one of the best tutorial I have seen.

Matt, may seem like a stupid question but are you in range of a wireless LAN for the phone to connect to ? Have had several issues with my N97 since I got it last July but it has always connected to internet ok both my home broadband and in Starbucks etc. What message do you get whilst it's searching ?

Im hoping someone can help! I bought a nokia n97 over the internet and unused one, when i got it it was aparent it was bought in asia, as it had a two pin plug and well..it said on the box!
i am able to send/recieve texts and calls but evrything else i go into it says check operator settings and when i go to facebook on the hompage its in chinese...

But why then Nokia seperates according to product codes if a device can be imported and exported anywhere arnd the world? This makes most customer having difficulties after purchase to update the firmware and additional products.
If another product code tagged device arrives in the country which its not meant to be sold? then the customers will face difficulties.I've seen firmware updating issues as a serious matter, since most people are not enjoying these stuffs.

Please help! Nokia N97 Email and Message Settings ...

I got the Nokia N97 in July on Contract with 02, and it appears its missing quite a few settings but most important are the email settings in the Retreival section.
The only settings its shows me are "Headers Only" i cant seem to retreive anymore than that. I have been looking online and it appears that others who have this phone have the complete settings in Retreival but I dont.
I desperately need to get the full settings is someone able to help me with how i go about resolving this?

yes for native email client off the phone the headers only option is normal. you download a full message upon selection of a particular header. i dont recall it behaving differently at least on my n97. nokia messaging the stand alone app that you can download behaves different and its actually a pretty good app as long as you don't have to pay for it. in some countries you have to pay for it and it has a major downfall, it only stores data on the c memory/phone memory and that is not really an option for me.

I understand you correct if it stops booting before you reach the homescreen?
Do you have a memorycard? - You should pull that out and make sure that the memory card isn't causing the issue?
Could it be any apps you have installed?
What FW are you on?
There are lots of things you can do to try to sort this out.
What I would do is to get it updated if possible, if you cannot or are on the latest one and have no clue, do a soft reset and a format of the memorycard and mass storage and rebuild the phone. First with your contacts, messages, music etc, and then with apps. Monitor carefaully how the phone behaves after 3rd party apps you install. - In that way you will have better chances of knowing what may cause problems in the future, and there wont likely be necessary to soft or hard reset it again.
Note that you will have to back up your content before you perform a soft or hard reset as this will wipe your phone memory, same with a format of the memorycard or the mass storage.
If you cannot get the phone on at all, try removing the battery for at least 5 min before putting it back together and try turning it on. - You could also try removing the memcard if you have one.

NOKIA N97...EMAIL PROBLEMS...HELP

I need some help please....I have a Nokia N97 which I recently purchased..love the phone but like most people I have had a few problems and recently have had to remove battery and restart a few times...
Now what is happening is that my email widget still appears on my home screen but my current emails are not showing...last emails showing are from 5 days ago and I know for a fact that I have lots more that are not coming through...when I click into my widget its the same...none there from the last 5 days....I only have the basic Nokia email programme operating that came with my phone....my setup has obvioudly changed in some way....Help please...

Hi, try removing the widget, then go into messaging=options-settings-email-mailboxes-options-delete, Once you've deleted your mailboxes, go into Applications, seff,wizard and set up your mail again,
Also have you removed all possible apps from C and re-installed on E, and in messaging-options-settings-other-set memory in use to E-Mass memory and number of messages to 500 ?
Another thing to check is settings-phone-application settings-messaging-email-mailboxes-select mailbox-retrieval settings-retrieval amount-set to all andin automatic retrieval-E-mail retrieval-set to enabled.

Help Nokia N97 to answer calls

Dear,
The query is regarding my nokia N97 and what happens to me is that when I call is blocked and answered by sliding your finger green bar, talk and end the call are the two pins and the phone is blocked off and only solution lighting.
This happens not always load the new Firm and 20 .... and goes well.
It may be the sim?
I ask for help.

Nokia n97 getting online help

Right i got a vodafone nokia n97 off ebay and when i first put my o2 pay-n-go simcard it would connect to the web via my sim card but now it wont it will only connect if am near a wireless router so if im out n about i cant get online to check anything. i have got o2 to send me the wap details throu again and still nothing just cant seem to get it to work iv looked in the manual and nothing anybody got any ideas on how i can get it to work or i might just get rid as its no good to me if i cant get it to work everytime i need it

Try going into connectivity settings-destinations-internet-then delete all access points. Turn off phone, re-boot, go back into connectivity and automatically search for access points, packet data should be available (it will be O2) select that and you should be ok.

Nokia N97, can someone help me please

Okay i've had my Nokia n97 for more than 6months now and its been working great except lately my facebook app wasn't working and i had to update it,
so last night i backed up my files on my mobile and i connected it to the pc and updated it with the program that the mobile brings with a cd it was okay then i went back to restore my files and it said it had to restart so it turned off and i went to turn it on again and it stayed a blank screen with the nokia sign in the middle in blue (when you turn it on it that usually shows) but it stayed stuck there it doesn't go to pin code nor anything, and to turn it off i have to take the battery off,
any ideas how to fix this or i have to go to the shop?

Yep, if you could not use facebook on the webbrowser, it would likely be some issue with facebook (servers etc.)
There a lots of posts on different ways to handle the full memory message.
Fw update, clean privacydata in browser, change messagememory to E, or soft reset. Use the searchbar and see if you could find anything. Gotta go to bed now. The n97 is a buggy device, and many customers experience wierd behavior. Often it is caused by low memory on C, corrupted storage as memorycard or E, or bad apps. You could always try a reboot too.

Nokia N97 LCD Screen Problems - a never ending sto...

Hello.
I recently purchased a new Nokia N97 smartphone. Everything about the phone is awesome, such as GPS, decent camera, good audio and video playback, etc, except for one thing. First thing first, I always see ghosting or 'burn-in' of images on the screen - quiet clearly on bright backgrounds. This is one of many annoyances as it often is visible when your watching movies and will only go away if the screen is off long enough. Another fault with the screen is that it appears to not refresh fast enough as I can often see what appears to be 'scan lines' running horizontal (if the phone is horizontal). Last, but not least, there appears to be diagonal lines crossing the screen from the top left to the buttom right as well as little matrixes of dots, however they do not seem to be on the LCD itself but rather the resistve layer. This may be just a feature to make the screen more reponsive, but I don't know and it is only visible in bright light, but when it is, you can diffently notice it. Does anyone else notice these strange effects? Will a Nokia Care Center help fix it?
And yes, screen proctectors have been removed.

I have the exact same problems... Some other problems two.
When I get a call and my correspondent quits the communication before I do, the phone freezes and I m forced to turn the phone off to deblock it.
This is really annoying. Some times, just while navigating between menus the screen gets stuck between two menus.
I purchased the phone 2 days ago and as you sed, its a great phone but not worth the pries, far from it.
I m goanna bring it back to the shop to have it change to see if its my phone who has a problem or the entire N97 series.
If that's the case I ll go for an other phone. I have always used Nokia phones, and was happy about them but this time I m am really disappointed.
I ll let you guys know if I get these problems fixed or if it gets worst.

N97 GPS cannot get a fix..

My N97 gps is having difficulty getting a fix on my position.
i was side by side with my fiance E71, and hers gets a fix in less than 20 secs. Whereas my N97 takes a long time, and after that, It just say unable to get a fix on the locatin, GPS works poor in enclosed area.
Any help?

I do not think that the N97 hardware is a flaw because I have tested it, see my other feedback in the forum and what I did.
In brief, I get a GPS fix in 1 second with a 8cm ultra thin copper wire coiled and hidden under double-sided tape under the orignal label antenna. This is done by first coiling this wire over a double-sided tape and then purely slightly peeling the original anntena tape, and placing this double-side tape (with wire) onto the plastic. Then stick the original antenna tape back into position: all fully concealed, without screws or opening the phone.
Even, if I remove this antenna extension, I still get a GPS fix between 5 to 15 seconds. I will say the antenna extension increase the signal strength of GPS signals and give a GPS fix in 1 seconds instead of 5 seconds, and also help to provide GPS fix under (metallic roof) shelters. Without the antenna extension, it is not possible to get a GPS fix under metallic-roof shelters.
I installed Garmin Mobile, and accidentally found a file 20006e9c.sis in the private folder in the mass memory which help to get a GPS fix under 15 seconds, under all weather conditions. Then when I remove this file, I cannot get a GPS fix under 15 seconds, it took about 5 minutes to get a GPS fix under clear sky, no signal under bad sky.
Now I tried with Nokia Map. Without Garmin and the file, it took 5 minutes to get a GPS fix under clear sky, and no signal under bad sky.
Now I tried Nokia Map after Garmin activated (with the file), and I get GPS fix between 1 to 15 seconds under all conditions. And with the antenna extension, it is between instant 1 second to 5 seconds.
So I will say that the N97 hardware is ok, except the GPS software. I cannot see the private folder in the phone memory as it is blocked (my phone is not hacked). I believe installation of Nokia Map created some new files in the private folder but every installation create different file in the folder (just like Garmin).
Some N97 work well because the file created in the private folder improves the GPS fix while other files deteriorate the GPS fix.
My suggestion: if possible, remove and re-install the Nokia Map in the phone until the file created is the one that improves the GPS fix. Sorry, I only know the needed file for Garmin is 20006e9c.sis which should be in the private folder. For Nokia Map, I do not know what file, and anyway I cannot access the phone memory.
